I'm going to have to agree with what /u/kikimaru024 has to say. When you buy cheap, you're buying cheap and this includes sound quality and build quality. Keep in mind, in the headphone world $100 is considered a budget pair of headphones/IEMs.
Fortunately for you, I am a generous god, and I know about some great budget brands like 1More who loves cramming extra drivers and high quality materials into budget earbuds. And on British Amazon, their 1-driver earbud is on sale for 24.99GBP

It would appear that they use the same materials as in their Dual, Triple, and Quadruple driver earphones which means it's made mostly from machined aluminum for the body, and Kevlar wrapped wires so they should withhold most abuse.
I'm assuming they sound similar to the Dual and Triple driver variants which I've heard and know have a somewhat bassy sound signature.

That's okay. Haha yeah IEMs are In Ear Monitors, where the tips are inserted into the ear canals unlike earbuds where they sit outside.
ATH doesn't make great IEMs and you'd be better off with other brands/models.
If you're a massive basshead, I'd recommend the Rock Zircon. Some of the most comfortable IEMs I've used under $800, great build quality and sound that performances above it's price.
If you want something more balanced sounding I'd recommend the Dzat DF-10.
If you liked over the ear IEMs, you can pick between the Mee 6 Pro or the Tennmak Pro.
Many people enjoy fun sounding signatures instead of balanced tones. A V shaped sound signature boosts the bass and highs slightly which can make it more dynamic or fun. The 1More Single Driver/Double Driver and Xiaomi Hybrid are some of the best for that budget.

I think I'm looking at the Hybrid Pros then, or 1More if I can find them somewhere. Regarding buying it online - eBay and Amazon have 'reputable sellers', would it be OK to buy from them or just avoid it altogether? Otherwise, I'll probably have to hunt around here locally. Thanks!
