Yes, the ps4 uses a standard laptop hard drive.

You can certainly use it with your pc. It is only a 5400 rpm drive so I would not recommend using it an OS drive. 7200 rpm minimum would be recomended, but better yet an SSD.

You could install it as a secondary drive in most computer cases, although you might need a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter depending on what options your case has. http://www.amazon.com/Notebook-Drive-Mounting-Bracket-Adapter/dp/B00AYJFXIQ/

Or you could use it as an external drive with something like this. http://www.amazon.com/Oyen-Digital-Tool-Free-Screwless-Enclosure/dp/B017XYMUI0/

After the drive is connected to the pc it will need to be formatted, but then it will work like any other hard drive.

I'm not an expert or anything but I did just buy my first SSD the other day. SSDs are 2.5" and I had to get a [3.5" to 2.5" adapter] (http://www.amazon.com/Notebook-Drive-Mounting-Bracket-Adapter/dp/B00AYJFXIQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449335558&sr=1-1&keywords=2.5%22+To+3.5%22+Bay+SSD+HDD+Notebook+Hard+Disk+Drive+Metal+Black+Mounting+Bracket+Adapter+Tray+Kit). I'm pretty sure the adapters are universal for all cases too.

They use SATA cables just like HDDs. So you'll need to make sure you have an extra port on your motherboard, a SATA cable and and a SATA power cable off of your power supply.

Finally, I don't think it matters what kind of motherboard you have. I got the Kingston 120GB SSD and for $45 I got a much faster computer! If anyone can confirm what I've said that'd be great because I'm not 100% myself.

> I have a Sapphire HD 7970 gpu (it was a gift), but when I went to the ATI website it appears they aren't made anymore. From what I've seen they've just been remodeled and given a different name (falling under the R2xx series or something, iirc), is this correct?

Yes. They are re-branded as R9 280X.

>I should still have no issues with driver support or anything for this gpu, right? And it's still a fairly good one to use overall anyway, isn't it?

You will have no issues whatsoever. And yes, it's fairly powerful GPU even by today's standards. Not that it's terribly old, just saying.

>For my SSD, I have the Crucial M4 256gb. I know it's a little behind the newer models that have been recently coming out, but it's still a reliable drive, yeah? Mind you, I'm coming from no SSD at all, so I know I'll see a large difference regardless. Or should I shell out some extra cash and go with something newer like the Samsung EVO?

No you don't need another SSD. Even if the newer drive is significantly faster, you won't be able to tell. A mechanical to SSD transition is fairly obvious, an SSD to a faster SSD is not.

> How should I put my SSD into the computer (since I know it won't fit into the normal 3.5" bays)? I've seen people use velcro and such, but I've also seen adapters/mounting kits that the SSDs can be put in to fit into the normal size bays, which is the method I'd like to go with. Are there any highly recommended products that are better than others, or will any 2.5"-to-3.5" adapter do the trick

If your case does not support 2.5", then yeah any 3.5" to 2.5" (not the other way around :P) would suffice. Even a cheap one as this. Now for 3.5$ i wouldn't bother with DIY velcro and stuff. BTW, how have you been using your current SSD all that time?

I'd go for something like this.

Something like this should do the trick if your case is "regular". If you don't feel comfortable with that one you can just look around Amazon by typing HDD mounting brackets, though I advise you not spending more than 20$ on these things as there really isn't a point to do so

u/kunmeh13 · 1 pointr/buildapc

You'd need a 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch hard drive bay adapter(something like this) if you wanted to put it in the enclosure.

I've seen many people just used some double sided tape and stick the SSD somewhere else in their case.

u/badillin · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

My guess is that your case doesnt have a slot for a 2.5" drive, but you can always screw it in one of the HDD bays, but of course the other side will be "floating"

You can also buy a 2.5 to 3.5" adapter like this ones:

u can get a bracket

ssds dont have spinning parts.. so i know many that kinda half ass it in the case. But if you want it too look good and prof, I'd get a bracket.

Very much congrats! i mean, having your own place.... very big deal! How many bedrooms? Floorspace? levels?
Obligatory item: because i have a laptop drive banging around my desktop case
omfg candroth!

u/n00bchicken · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yes to both, though you might have to get a 2.5' (SSD size) to 3.5' adapter to mount the hard drive in your case, and it will most likely be not as fast or as large as a desktop drive. However, you can definitely do this if you want.
