I would recommend this Lenovo Thinkpad T480 because it comes with everything you need, i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in your budget and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, long battery life, and it is well within your budget.
I'm going to recommend the Lenovo Thinkpad T480 for its excellent battery life and build quality, as well as being upgradeable in case you need that in the future. Also, it comes with Intel integrated graphics, which shouldn't run The Sims (4?) very well, to help you with that habit :-)

If you don't need a display with good color coverage I'd recommend opting for the Lenovo Thinkpad T480 - it's probably one of the most durable laptops out there.
There are some good prices on Amazon for it - from 850$ with a basic configuration: I5, Full HD LED IPS display, SSD and 8 GB RAM - the same configuration is ~ $1,266.85 on their official site and, even after you apply this coupon: THINKPROMO it will still be over that Amazon price.
