I am not arguing that the cocaine trade does not inflict massive suffering on people. I know that, pretty much everyone knows that. You think you're the "messenger?" We all have the internet, we know people get murdered by cartels - we are not simpletons.

My point that you are complicit in a global system of institutionalized violence was not poisoning the well. We are all complicit in this system unless we are the ones being exploited. This was in no way a personal attack. I'm merely stating what any educated person such as yourself should already know, that most goods get to us through one form of exploitation or another. Most chocolate in this country is imported from regions of Africa where the coca is farmed by slaves in camps run by rebels, reminiscent of the diamond trade in Sierra Leone years back - people had to die so that we could eat a snickers bar. That being said, does a boycott of chocolate make any sense at all? It makes about as much sense as telling people to boycott gasoline, or coffee - it is simply never going to happen. The market for these goods is never going to disappear, and people will not be willing to give them up on a large enough scale for a boycott to be an effective tool. So no, boycotting cocaine will not help stop anything, and telling other people to thinking that you will in any way change things is just plain silly. Legalization activism does far more good than giving strangers on the internet guilt trips about doing cocaine like a pompous ass, so if you really care so much then focus on that.

EDIT: Also you should check out A Confederacy of Dunces and Endgame. They don't really have a lot to do with what we're talking about, but since you gave me some book recommendations I thought you might like some as well. Both are excellent!

EDIT2: TL;DR: I agree with you on 99% of what you're saying, but you're still acting like a twat.
