> I think self-publishing is the devil's work.

It wouldn't be if people put the same amount of effort into having their novels professionally put together as a publishing house would. The only problem with self-publishing is that it is so easy to want to take the "easy way out" and put out total shit in a kneejerk I-want-this-shit-published-yesterday reaction which means that not only will your book NOT sell (because it's unedited, indulgent shit) but it has the long-lasting effect of pretty much hobbling your entire professional reputation right out of the gate.

I edited [this novel] (http://www.amazon.com/A-Latent-Dark-ebook/dp/B00919R7T8) for less than a thousand dollars. That edit (redlines, revisions, and a final proofread) + the author's innate talent and hard work + a beautiful cover job, also not cheap = a fucking five star novel on Amazon.

If the author isn't willing to invest in their own work, which is supposedly "their baby", they can hardly expect anyone else to want to invest in it either.

My novel A LATENT DARK is currently free on Amazon (until the 12th) in anticipation of its sequel coming out soon. Here is a link for anyone interested:

It's a steampunk/dark fantasy story, somewhere along the lines of THE GOLDEN COMPASS but with more Lovecraftian horrors. I hope you'll give it a shot.

I am also new to the steam punk/cyberpunk genre, but I just read A Latent Dark and I liked it. I only regret it isn't a series.

Edit: I can't read, this book is steam punk.
