Maybe for someone, but for me it seems like a poor choice to buy a 5 generation old refurbished laptop to save ~$100 (after SSD upgrade) https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1538494326&sr=1-4&keywords=laptop+acer

I can't imagine battery life is too good either.

u/Erik_Andresen · 12 pointsr/MagicArena

I have done a little bit of searching... You may possibly get lucky and find a cheap used laptop that will -barely- be able to play the game. If it were me, I would personal prefer a $200 gift card to Amazon or Newegg to put toward getting a decent new Laptop that can play the game fairly well. I don't know much about the very bare bones specs to play the game, but from what I have seen, about $350 is your lowest price point.

Something like this should be able to play the game well enough for it to be an enjoyable experience ( I am sure graphic settings for the game will need to be lowered in-game)-

No it is not. Here are the specs on that computer:

Intel Core i3 6006u (6th gen)

8GB DDR4 Ram

1366 x 768 resolution

Up to 8 hours battery life

This unit here from amazon is cheaper, with a better display (1920 x 1080), better battery life (up to 12 hours) and better processor (8th gen, i3 8130u). It trails the other with only having 6gb of ram but is still upgradeble to 32gb. You wont notice the 2gb difference. Additionally, ram is one of the few things you can upgrade in a laptop. The processor and screen are generally not upgradeable and would require a new laptop to replace. Better to go with one with higher specs in the things you cant replace, and take a small hit on the things you can replace (ie Ram). Hope this helps.

u/glymao · 7 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Avoid that. Buy this from Amazon, and if you cannot, you may visit your local computer shops to find used ones. That laptop is literally 3 years old so you might just get an used.

Pentiums are okay for most basic tasks but it slows down over time. And at that price I doubt the laptop has a quality that may last a few years.

Acer E15 - Under $400.

This budget laptop is great for audio editing in Reaper and Audacity. I personally use Reaper to record and Audacity to edit but neither are resource intensive programs.

You can install a cheap M.2 SSD in it as well, I spent about $80 for a 275GB SSD and still keep the 1TB drive for your data storage.

u/frc_atariguy · 5 pointsr/FRC

I'd say bump up the price range to $300-$400. This will increase the cost by quite a bit, but the improvement would be well worth the money. You would want to find something that has a pretty nice balance of CPU power, GPU power, and memory. For laptops at this price range, you'll want to find something with good integrated graphics, over 4GB of memory if you can find it, and have it be a 15.6 inch laptop. That last one might seem weird, but that is the size where you can usually find the best pricing because it's big enough that the internals won't be an absolute nightmare to deal with (which makes manufacturing more expensive), but small enough to not have anything too crazy on the outside, like a bigger display (which makes manufacturing more expensive). Here's a good example of what I'd recommend: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ

If you find something else and aren't sure, I can take a look at it and give my opinion on how I think it will hold up.

I had an acer aspire from 2012 that just died, so i replaced it with a newer acer aspire. Got it on Amazon for 379. I plan on swapping out the HDD with an SSD and doing a fresh windows install when it arrives later today. My aspire was fairly robust and easy to fix/upgrade myself.

Hi,

Neither laptop have a 1080p display, which is (in my opinion) a necessity. For just under the price of the Dell laptop, I would get the Acer Aspire E 15 with a stronger processor. It has:

  • i3-8130U 2-core processor

  • 6 GB of RAM

  • 1 TB HDD (with an extra slot for an SSD)

  • 1080p 15.6" display

  • Weight of 5.3lbs and battery life up to 13.5 hours

This laptop runs Windows 10 Home.

For your uses, you should be fine with this laptop. General use/streaming will be great on this device. Gaming on the other hand is limited. You likely will only be able to run lighter games like League of Legends.

Now, for gaming performance in comparison to the laptops you've linked, this laptop's integrated graphics are the best.

If you are a little handy and could open the laptop, add an SSD and move the windows to it go for the Acer Aspire E 15 this could be a good fit for you .

I don’t know much about laptops but interested in buying something cheap for my parents. Which one of these is the better buy? I’m leaning towards the aspire 5 for the IPS panel

Simpsons Hit and Run and some others have to be run at 1x resolution to get full speed. There is some talk of the Ishiiruka build of Dolphin for weaker PCs but I have never tried it out, and don't feel the need to.

Budget: less is best. but preferably under 500-400 usd

Country: USA

Screen size: does not matter

Screen resolution: does not matter

Touch screen: does not matter

Weight: does not matter

I will be surfing the internet, streaming shows illegally, torrent movies from sketchy pirate sites. I will occasionally grab my hands on some naughty-naughty movies which I feel have ruined past laptop with virus and malware.

That is all. I have dreams of using excel and being proficient but have yet to try. I have an amazon merch account which allows me to put my graphic designs on t-shirts, but I have yet to even look for a program that can do this.

I don't play games cause I have a phone with PUBG mobile and the new Call of Duty.

I am looking at this laptop from the sticky post up above.

Thank you for everyone helping here.

btw my old laptop is from 2015 and the video driver keeps crashing more frequently. It has crashed twice since posting this .

u/trainedtech88 · 3 pointsr/LaptopDeals

its best you get this Acer Aspire e15 because its specs would be great for your studies and its the best bang for your money. the only downside is the display which is 15 inch.

u/truedublock · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

For 600$ you can get her a dedicated Mx150 GPU, and for $650 she can have a 1050 Ti

$650 $600 $500 $400

Just remember everything below $600 does not have a discrete GPU, and the settings for sims might have to be turned down a decent amount.

(Or you could build a second PC for her, if she’s moved in with you ;) )

u/elvinelmo · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

For your budget your options are limited but given that you won't be using the laptop for anything heavy duty you can go for the Dell Inspiron I3567 . It is a laptop that will get the job done but some things to keep in mind is that it is an older model CPU and it has HD resolution not FHD. These are not ideal in 2019 but given your budget it is not bad. If you did not want a touch screen you could get a better bang for buck laptop like the Acer Aspire E15

  • Intel Core i3-7130U
  • 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM Memory
  • 128GB Solid State Drive
  • 15.6" HD 1366x768 Touch Screen Display
u/kaysn · 3 pointsr/thesims

This is CDN 40 more than your budget but will run TS4 in medium to high settings. Packs and CC included.

https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/

You can upgrade the internal storage to SSD and Memory later to improve loading times. This is what I like about Acer, they make these parts easy to access and replace.

Memory first, adding more to RAM is always best.

Microsoft Surface Go (Intel Pentium Gold, 4GB RAM, 64GB) and Microsoft Surface Go Type Cover (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FQJL839/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_cHl7CbVG26WN1

-Same computer as above but without keyboard and touchpad.

You can get a cheap bluetooth keyboard and mouse if that's what you need

for both would recommend getting some case if he brings it anywhere as it is glass and aluminum

Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i3-8130U, 6GB RAM Memory, 1TB HDD, 8X DVD, E5-576-392H https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_BSl7CbTMSZXQS

Cheap laptop with okay ram, good processor and storage you can also get an ssd instead for it still under 400

Also a side note you can get an emulator on the pc so you can play mobile games on the laptop if he wants
I would recommend blue stacks for android games i don't know any emulators for ios as i don't use ios but there should be some you can use

A good tablet is the samsung galaxy tab s5e for 400 dollars or 465 with a keyboard if you wanted a tablet
samsung also makes cheap phones if your heart so desires to save some money

You could get a gaming console for below 400 dollars too like xbox one s and get some bundled games

If you had the desire to, there are pc build guides online for less than 400 dollars and I think building pcs are fun and if you think the same you can build some great desktops for cheap the whole family can use. and you could get bonding time with your son

There are a lot if options it just depends on what you want PCs are similar to laptops its just the size difference mainly

Just so you know i think the last laptop is the best out of everything here

Amazon has an Acer Aspire E for $379. Note that there are a LOT of similar models, so I'm not sure if this specific one is the best price/performance.

My other thought--by reputation--is a used/refurbished Thinkpad T-something. You may need a new battery. I don't know anything about the particular models, so I'll refer you to r/thinkpad.

u/techstar2000 · 3 pointsr/LaptopDeals

There is no better pick really than this Aspire E15 with not only a 1080p display, but 6 GB RAM, 8th gen i3 processor and a great battery life.

u/U-1F574 · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

500 is enough to get you a machine that will handle windows fine, though, admittedly windows a bit more of a pain to use if you do not want it.

> Are there super-fast options? I’ve been reading some reviews of people saying they get slow very quickly. I want browser windows to load fast, no spinning wheel of death when watching Netflix, etc.

If you throw enough money at the problem there always a solution, but in general, chromebooks, tend to be very underpowered in terms of price to performance, but in return, they get amazing battery life. If you are going to be using more than 40-50 tabs at a time, with two of them streaming some kind of media, a chromebook may not be for you. The fastest chromebook is the google pixelbook, but it comes in at $999, at which point I would argue you might as well just buy a mac. Used pixelbooks can be picked up for significantly cheaper (800-700ish). Note: the pixel chromebook is the older 2015 model, and is much cheaper used.

> Do they allow for any offline access to your Google Drive (similar to Dropbox where you have an offline folder that syncs when you connect to wifi)?

Yes, but chromebooks tend to have very limited local storage. At your price range, only around 32 Gb of storage. If you can fit all of your files in that, you should be good. Remember, cloud storage is free for a few years, but after that you will only get 10 Gb or something of cloud storage.

> I never used Google Docs much; will I be able to edit my .docx CV and pdf it without screwing up the formatting?

Mostly, though it depends on if you are using any templates or anything that might break it. I advise you just test it in Google Docs rn.

> How do I even begin to select which brand and specs? I have never had to buy a non-Apple laptop, so I have no idea how to navigate the hundreds of options.

If only there was a subreddit devoted to selecting laptops or something... /s. Seriously though, the proper way is just like anything else look at reviews, battery life benchmarks, compare processors (just google the processor numbers with vs in between two processors, Intel Celeron N3160 vs Intel Celeron N3060) General rule of thumb for intel's naming scheme is (assuming they are from roughly the same one or two years) atom <= celeron < m3 < pentium < i3 < i5 < i7. foll Fun, right? You will also probably want to avoid any chromebooks with less than 4 Gb or ram. Make sure to check the amount of storage too, get as much storage as you need. Also, storage is NOT memory.

The HP Chromebook 13 looks like it might fit you needs.

Also note: chromebooks are typically only gurenteed around 5 years of software support (the lastest hp's support will end 2022) This could be a problem as you may not recieve security updates after then, and you will not have the option to move to a new version of chromeOS like you can with windows, MacOS, or Linux.

Your alternatives in your price range: used macbooks are within your price range on ebay. Buy a new windows machine like the Asus Vivobook (which is very popular here) and either run windows on it, or install Linux. Buy a used computer and install either Windows or Linux (if you opt for this route, by a used Dell XPS or Lenovo Thinkpad, like a Carbon X1). Downside is you either have to use Windows 10 in free mode if you opt to go the windows route, or pay $200). I personally think the best alternative is to buy a used thinkpad or XPS along with a new battery, but this will be the most complex route. (I recommend an X1 carbon or an T440 or X440) It will get you the most durable hardware in your price range, though the processor might be slightly slower than something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/

u/LonerIM2 · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

This will be hard within your budget, if that is your max then I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 since it’s is the best option for you, It comes with 8th gen dual i3 CPU.
long battery life (advertised of up to 15-hours of battery life) so it matches your requirement, it has some mixed reviews about its trackpad but it think it is a software issue, or people are not used to trackpads.
On the other hand, it’s thin, it weighs 5.27lbs, and the screen has IPS which is very good option in this price range.

If you want to check similar option make sure to check my post a list of college laptops

u/bwburke94 · 3 pointsr/OOTP

Acer Aspire E 15 at $330 seems to be the cheapest viable option.

u/JagSKX · 3 pointsr/laptops

I would just buy her the following $339 Lenovo laptop with a dual core i3-8130u CPU, 1080p, 4GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive. There is no DVD drive; nearly all modern laptops no longer have one. 4GB of RAM is not a lot, but your mom doesn't seem to do anything demanding so she should be able to get by with it. You can always install RAM in the future if need be.

https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-i3-8130U-Dual-Core-Processor-81DE00LAUS/dp/B07GM1CMQZ

However, if your mom prefers to have a laptop with a DVD drive, then the following $361 Acer laptop has one. It also has 6GB of RAM instead of 4GB.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=acer+i3-8130u+laptop&qid=1563309607&s=electronics&sr=1-3

Cheap, new processor 2 core 4 threads, Full HD display, 6GB RAM very upgradable, empty M2 SSD slot, Has DVD drive which you can again use for another hard drive/SSD if you do desire.

It's $30 over your budget but it's awesome for that price. At this price it doesn't get any better than this.

u/KappaSolit · 2 pointsr/GalliumOS

Well... It would be stupid to get a Chromebook if you need it for Linux! I'd recommend you to find a FreeDOS laptop to avoid the windows cost, then install Xubuntu or whichever distro you need.

This laptop is also a good deal:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=cheap+i3+laptop&qid=1554964021&s=gateway&sr=8-2

u/VenomSnake03 · 2 pointsr/Laptop

I would go for something with a Core i3 or a Core i5 if that is the only thing youre going to be using it for. RAM will usually be 8gb and thats more than enough for the task you mentioned.

Just did a quick search on amazon and im sure that something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=laptop&qid=1574633449&sr=8-5 would suffice.

u/OSC_E · 2 pointsr/lowendgaming

You might ask this over in /r/suggestalaptop.

A quick browse through the Amazon US marketplace the only thing that kinda popped out at me was the Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i3-8130U, 6GB RAM Memory, 1TB HDD, 8X DVD, E5-576-392H. For $309, but as you're in a different country the price/shipping/duty may be significantly different. The other systems at that price point didn't really measure up for overall performance, though there are a few things about the E15 that aren't the greatest. There's a fairly decent review of the system at LaptopMag. Basically you get a full fledged Core i-series with the UHD Graphics 620 which performs better than the Pentiums/Celerons and AMD A-series that seem to be the mainstay of the sub $300 market. While the system has dual channel RAM that's all important for iGPU systems, it's unfortunately in a 2+4 configuration, which means you're stuck with only 4GB of dual channel RAM and the system taking a performance hit as soon as you go over that, so you'll want to change out the 2GB SoDIMM for a 4GB one as soon as you are able (should you go with this route). There are Ryzen 3 systems at this price point that may have trade offs in system configurations worth considering, but it seemed all of them only had a single stick of RAM which really hamstrings the Vega graphics gaming performance. There's a lot to research for sure.

u/pentrushen · 2 pointsr/privacy

Right--I've never had a problem installing Linux on any device. Don't let that drive your decision. I'm looking for a laptop right now and have my eyes on a Lenovo. I might go with a cheap Acer. Let me encourage you though to spend a bit more than $200 if you can. 4GB of ram is going to be slow if you intend to dual boot with Windows. And that 64GB eMMC storage is inferior flash storage. And you can't really upgrade it. My basic requirements even for a cheap-o laptop are always 1) at least 6 GB ram (probably 8); 2) Actual 2.5" storage drive that can be taken out and replaced (I always put in an SSD if it doesn't have one)

Here's a good example of one I have owned and recommended to many. Definitely replace the HDD with an SSD right from the start.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/

Laptops with real replaceable 2.5" drives are slightly thinker and heavier, but it's worth it.

If you're buying new, this would be a better option with the 8th Gen i3.

A Thinkpad wouldn't be a bad idea either; they are built like tanks and you'll get a lot of life out of them. This looks to be a good option.

In this price range I think Acer Aspire E 15 is a really good choice. It delivers many features for such a low budget, entry-level hardware. The laptop is equipped with all different kind of ports, which makes it usable both as multimedia center and great office tool. It’s 8th generation i3 processor makes multitasking easy even when multiple tabs are open on your Chrome browser, the processor is paired with 6GB of RAM and 1 TB hardisk that spins at 5400rpm. The keyboard has nice, springy feeling to it and makes typing comfortable. The battery is one of bestselling features and holds juice for approximately 8 hours.

Aspire E 15 if you can find one

https://www.amazon.com.au/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ

Other option does it have to be laptop, you can buy an entry level desktop that will last you longer, be fixable and upgradable, both things your laptop wont have

u/OakFern · 2 pointsr/laptops

That's a piece of junk. Junk CPU (and a pretty ancient one at that, was released in 2012), junk GPU, not very much RAM.

We talking USD? $300 isn't much, but you should be able to do better than that hunk of junk. If you can save and stretch to maybe $500, that would give you a lot more options.

EDIT: Not terribly familiar with the US market, but a quick search on US Amazon brought up this laptop for $360 and this other laptop for $510. Both are much more recent, have much better CPUs, and more RAM than what you listed.

u/Becroki · 2 pointsr/solotravel

Acer Aspire E15 is possibly the best laptop you can get under $500, but the bulk might be a turn off. If so, something like a VivoBook E403NA is probably solid.

u/RandomAsianHoe · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

Maybe the Acer Aspire E5? Granted with that budget it’ll be hard getting something that plays games well but overwatch, CSGO, and League should be ok on this. It has a gen 8 i3 with turbo boost up to 3.4 GHz and a standard intel UHD 620. Also has supposedly 13.5 hours of battery which is a plus.

u/aleishabb · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

If that is the case the ASUS VivoBook F510UA would be the laptop to go with as it is below budget and offers the best vale for money. Its able to do everything you want to and it has a good display and build quality. To get that fast boot like (5 seconds) would need a laptop with an SSD though like the Acer Aspire E15 which would use up all your budget. You can add an SSD to the ASUS in the future though if you like

u/omega44xt · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

It's ok, not the best choice for sure. You fell for the i5, which is what the company/store wanted.

This is a better option under $400, if you are open to suggestions:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1550933179&sr=8-3&keywords=acer+e15

The i3 8130U performs similar to i5 7200U but this one has a 1080p display & a free M.2 slot for SSD. SSDs make a big difference when OS boots from it. You can get 256GB M.2 SSD for $50 & clone OS to it (google it for steps).

u/jklemon17 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Check out this Acer Aspire E 15. More RAM and storage than those two (but no SSD).

u/flamec4 · 2 pointsr/KSU

Just get an Acer Aspire its a good laptop thats about 400 dollars and seeing you're considering you can afford a MacBook pro its definitely in your price range. You'll definitely want something lightweight like it to do everything you want to do. Since you're a freshman too you'll have fodder classes where you definitely don't have to listen to the lectures and having a laptop is a good time killer in classes like that because being on a laptop looks way more productive than being on a phone.

If you do decide to go with the MacBook pro it will be more work for you in the long run because most people don't have Macs because they are so expensive.

u/Michiganders · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If you have a Costco membership, the Lenovo Ideapad S340 checks most of your boxes. It'll have pretty good performance with an 8th gen i3 and 8GB of ram. Has a 1080p IPS touchscreen display, and comes with a 256GB SSD which is pretty solid in this price range. The main down-side is it's known to have a pretty mediocre battery life.

Another excellent option could be the Acer Aspire E15. It has gone on sale every Amazon Prime day so far so I would expect it to go on sale again for this prime day (~7 days from now). If it does, it's a pretty solid value with decent specs (sadly no SSD), an extremely long battery life, a 1080p display, and a backlit keyboard.

If you have any more questions or would like a few other options let me know.

u/ParasCoffee · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i3-8130U, 6GB RAM Memory, 1TB HDD, 8X DVD, E5-576-392H https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4NKgDb14VSQCM

With this you'd keep the SSD, get a faster processor, more RAM, and a sharper screen for a small stretch in budget

u/Demmuffinz · 2 pointsr/ElderScrolls

I just bought a laptop for the exact same reasons last week. I haven't played Morrowind on it yet, but it runs Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas between 40-60 fps pretty easily, so I'd imagine Morrowind would be fine.

Here's the laptop if you wanted to take a look. here

Looking for a good word processing/schoolwork pc? researched a few and found this, looking for something comparable to this at least, maybe with a touchscreen?

Thanks!

u/KrazyYT · 1 pointr/buildapc

Fellas, I want decent laptop for schoolwork, editing (adobe after affects), and minimal gaming like CSGO, (I won't run 2 things at once) would this $330 laptop be enough? 8th Gen i5-8130U, ("Up to 3.4Ghz"), 6GB 6GB DDR3 SDRAM Ram, (Dual Channel), If not, what if I replace its 6gb ram with this 16GB 2x8GB ram? Im not sure if that ram is actually compatible with it but it seems like it. I will also sell my Nintendo Switch + 2 Games + 2 2GB Micro SD Cards + GripCase IF I have to for $400. Please tell me any suggestions, what this laptop alone can/can't do, and what the combo can do. ALSO, im an amateur, I don't know a lot of pc stuff yet. Also, (sorry) whats the difference between DDR3 SDRAM and DRR4?

u/cpforthree · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I see that you linked the older model for the Acer Aspire E in the 300-400 range. The newer model has 6gb already installed along with the 8th gen i3. Do you suggest I get the new model or the old model and upgrade the RAM myself?

Here's the link for the new model: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Mv.5AbMK3AGQ9

So, I got you a battle station that, except for the KB+M ( could have done better there) will kick the crap out of your TV, unless it's 4K, in which case toss the monitor. But 1440p144fps is considered the most elite PC setup, some thing that the laptop will not be able to do which yours will be able to do.

As for laptops, this one is pretty solid for general use. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

For your usage you would need [I3 quad core ] processor and [Integrated] GPU.
I would recommend (Acer Aspire E 15) as it comes with: -

CPU: I3-8130U

GPU: Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620

RAM: 6 GB

Display: FHD 15.6 TN screen

Storage: 1TB HDD

Poor battery life

It is a great choice because of its high build quality, along with its specifications makes it the best option for your usage and it is within your budget.

u/n0ticeme_senpai · 1 pointr/Maplestory

Any laptop with at least 4 gigabytes of RAM, not super ancient (like pre-2010), and CPU that isn't Intel's Atom series would be able to run it at a very playable performance.

Even a $330 laptop like this with an i3 CPU is an overkill for what you need to play maple. unrelated but imo that actually is one of the best deals u can get at the price range

u/necrohealer · 1 pointr/Wizard101

The best option right now other than the used market / locally (craigslist etc) would be the Acer Aspire E15 on amazon for $329.https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ

There are used gaming laptops with gpu's like 860m on ebay right now for under 330 usd as well.

u/AlphaZedd_ · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

So I’ve been doing some research, and found that there are two models of the Acer Aspire you recommended (the other model: Acer Aspire E 15). I am unsure if the extra money is really worth the SSD or extra 2GB of RAM since I won’t be doing anything too rigorous on the laptop. Just want to get another opinion on my thought process and see what you have to say. Thank you :)

u/BiccyThiccy · 1 pointr/playrust

I would not buy a laptop for Rust. it is enough for Rust. I'd expect around 60 fps.

You could still get waaaaay more for the price though. Something like this would probably get a much higher framerate and be a better PC in general.

The problem with gaming laptops is that they get way too hot to be able to play games very well, not to mention they have to artificially lower the performance of some components so the battery life isn't absolutely terrible not to mention, turn the laptop into a space-heater.

Grab the build I listed and get a laptop like this if you really need one.

Going to be tough.

You really want a discrete GPU, and you'll likely be stuck with something used. Lot's of abused "gaming" laptops out there on the second hand market. I'd probably lean for a business class system since they're often built a bit more robust.

Maybe something like this:

Dell Latitude E6540 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Latitude-E6540-i7-4810MQ-2-8GHz-16GB-500GB-Radeon-8790M-1920x1080-0001/382770006808
