That Lenovo should do a decent job for you but if you would want to play any games at all while away from your PC, then this Acer Aspire R 15 with similar specs, but a dedicated graphics card, more RAM and a better quality display would do a better job for you.

u/The---Technician · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Both the XPS 15 and the yoga would do a very good job but if you want to same some money, this Acer Aspire R 15 Convertible Laptop would get the job done the same way and cost less. It also does have a dedicated graphics card which you may find handy and it's display quality is very good..

u/LonerIM2 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would recommend the Acer Aspire R 15 great price with the current sale the 940MX would come handy for little gaming on the side .

u/elvinelmo · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would suggest a dedicated graphics card and a 7th gen i7 for your needs. The Acer Aspire R 15 Convertible Laptop is a good laptop to look at

  • 15.6" Full HD Touch
  • 7th Gen Intel Core i7
  • GeForce 940MX,
  • 12GB DDR4
  • 256GB SSD

The R 15 is a powerful 2 in 1 that provides good value for money as the dedicated gpu and the 'clean' none gamer look of this 2 in 1 works well. It’s ideal for note taking and classes. Although the cpu is not a quad core it can still manage programs like blender and unity well enough as you have the razer for intensive tasks
u/Michiganders · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The Acer VX that Loner linked is going to probably have the best value you'll find in your price range (Quad Core processor, GTX 1050, IPS display). Only other thing I'd recommend is maybe also look at the Acer Aspire R15 if you want a touchscreen, a bit better portability, and a bit better battery. It isn't quite as powerful with a dual core i7 and GTX 940MX dGPU, but it would still likely work fine for your needs. It weighs in at 4.9 lbs, has 2 in 1 capabilities, and a battery advertised up to 9 hours.

u/Haeges · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I agree with LonerlM2's suggestion, but I can also suggest the Acer Aspire R 15 (costs 800$). Here is a quick glance at the specs:

  • 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7500U Processor (Up to 3.5GHz)
  • 15.6" Full HD (1920 x 1080) Multi-touch widescreen LED-backlit IPS display
  • NVIDIA GeForce 940MX with 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM
  • 12GB DDR4 Memory
  • 256GB SSD
  • Up to 9-hours Battery Life
  • 0.79 inch thin and weights 4.7lbs

    Hope that'll help!

Can you take a look at this link? It seems very good and Im thinking about buying it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD61CF5/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

800 bucks but it is i7, has a solid state drive, has a nividea g force 940mx for gaming 15 inch touchscreen and 12gb ddr4. has all the specs im looking for. Any negative things you can see about it? How good would the graphics card be for steam gaming?

u/gunnk · 1 pointr/Fusion360

I haven't used Fusion 360 on it yet, but I think the new laptop I just bought might be a good fit for you.

Acer Aspire R 15

The processor is a 7th generation i7 (the newest is 8th gen), but by going with a slightly slower processor, I was able to get a 256GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce 940MX dedicated GPU, 12 GB of RAM and a touchscreen display all for under $800.

It hits the sweet spot of power and price because it's very well-rounded.

u/AuraJet · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Okay. How does the Thinkpad Yoga 14 compare to an Acer Aspire R 15? There one on sale for $800. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD61CF5/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The Thinkpad would still be cheaper because I can buy one with out tax.

Here is the one that I use. It's a little larger than what you are looking for, but it still holds up for use as a work computer and a school computer, and I did some programming on it (though for your sake I hope you're better at programming than I am), and it holds up well. There are a couple of minor things that I would tell you. The vents are on the bottom, so that may be one thing you want to pay attention to when you are using it. The only other thing that I would mention is that the only coding I ever did on this laptop was Python for math. I don't know how that will translate for other programming languages.

u/trainedtech88 · 1 pointr/Laptop

Omg!!! im sorry... but Id suggest you get it when its available because it might be out of stock come monday. but its totally up to you though.
you could also check out this Acer Aspire R 15 Convertible Laptop as a suitable alternative.

u/thatoneguywh0 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

It's a little bit more at 800$ but I'm currently looking at Acer Aspire R 15 Convertible Laptop, 7th Gen Intel Core i7, GeForce 940MX, 15.6" Full HD Touch, 12GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, R5-571TG-7229 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WD61CF5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hUcYzbEXQNJBQ

Which has a dedicated graphics card and when I checked it out in person at Best Buy it with the bamboo stylus really sold me on it. I'd check it out in person to see if you like those features or if it's just a gimmick bc it can be different for everyone

u/iraxl · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

This one has a decent spec for what you are looking for. Various Adobe programs should be able to leverage the graphics card.

I found this Acer Aspire R15, it seems to fit most of my preferences. Can anyone tell me how it would do running a game like Overwatch?

u/NudePenguin69 · 1 pointr/nfl

Not sure your price range or what you want to do with it, but for a good, solid, fast laptop that can do non-graphically intense gaming, in the $800 range, I picked this one up about a month and a half ago and have had zero regrets so far.

u/IncontrovertibleWave · 1 pointr/laptops

If you are using them for 10hrs, battery life is a good concern.

Gaming, it seems to be secondary for you.

Hard-Drive, better have a SSD instead of HDD.

What is good storage for you? Most standar laptops are coming with 256GB discs, for me that´s plenty. How much are you using right now? (Not if you current laptops is 1TB, but how much of that you have in files?)

For 1k you can have quite good units, it´s not a very low buget (there are laptops for 200$, those are the very low price laptops)

Lenovo 720S series are quite good, Acer Swift 3, there´s the Asus Zenbook 13inch.

If you want something larger theres is the Acer R15 https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Laptop-GeForce-R5-571TG-7229/dp/B06WD61CF5/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1521222563&sr=1-9&keywords=ultrabook

You have a lot of options to check. I´m looking for something similar too, from what I´ve learned, Intel i5 8250U+MX150 is the best configuration at this price. Look for at least 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and you can be sure you will be well served.

u/Telauges · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Never seen the lanova you’re talking about but what about these

ASUS 15.6”
ACER Aspire R 15

Those might be a little overkill for what you you’ll be using it for but with the budget you provided, they’re most certainly good laptops that’ll last for some time.

Edit: Wow I thought I read $1000-$800. Either way both those are really good choices.

u/FetidFlatus · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Hey there,

I did some more research and also talked to a friend today. He told me that I should for sure get an i7 with the laptop. (Honestly don't know too much about computer parts, this was just his suggestion.) I noticed that Acer Aspire 5 you sent me, also has an i7 version, so that is one of my choices ($800 on Amazon for the i7 version).

The Nitro 5 Spin model I'm specifically looking at is "NP515-51-80XS"; it has an SSD (and HDD) and an i7 processor. 4.85 lbs. ($999 on Microcenter)

Another 2-in-1 that I found is Acer Aspire R 15 SSD only and an i7 processor. 4.74 lbs. ($705 on Amazon)

Seems like I'm leaning towards all of these Acer laptops! I noticed that they all have tiny arrow keys. I think I'll get used to it though.

What do you think of these options in terms of performance for my purposes, if I wasn't taking the 2-in-1 feature into account? I'm not too concerned about price, so long as it's around $1,000 or less.

Thanks!!

I am looking into a new laptop. How well will this one run PoE?
