I can't find you anything in that price range with a back-lit keyboard that still has a decent GPU.

What there is in your range is this Acer with a i5 and a 840M and it's 1080P counterpart.

If you stretch another $100, I'd recommend this, as its 850M utilizes GDDR5, which will give you much better performance, but, it's a 17 inch laptop.

Well, you really don't need an i7 quad core for those requirements, but if you want to play modern games like NBA 2K15, I highly recommend getting a good dedicated GPU. At $800, the best you're going to find is a midrange card like GT 840M on something like the Acer V3-572G-54L9, or just integrated graphics. Integrated graphics would render you in a poor state, only playable on the lowest possible settings (and even then not well).

If you can't increase your budget, then I recommend waiting a few weeks, as the newest mobile GPUs will be out. Perhaps there will be some discounts to the GTX 860M or even GTX 870M that you can snag, even maybe on Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

The other thing to consider is the quality of the laptop screen. It should be 1080p, and ideally, IPS. Something like the Lenovo Y50 is a tempting option not too far from your budget, but depending on the model you receive, the screen quality can be downright awful.

The best GPU for the money would be in the Acer Aspire V3-572G for $609. However, I'd go for this version of it for a bit more, as it has a 1080p display.

Neither of them. They both have poor resolution screens, weak last-generation CPUs, and really unimpressive GPUs. This Acer Aspire V3 with a 1080p screen and 840m will probably be the optimal choice in your price range once it's actually released; until then, if you're okay with a smaller screen, the Lenovo Y40 might be worth considering.

Go with this. Gives you a plenty powerful 840M and an i5. Perfect for what you need it for :D

u/JustAnotherGraySuit · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Lenovo Y40 is an option. The 14" screen is a little small, but it's still 1080p with decent graphics.

The Acer V3-572G-54L9 in the sidebar is also an excellent deal.

The Acer V3-572G-54L9 has a decent GPU (GT 840M) and a decent-resolution display (1920x1080 in 15.6") and is in your price range.

You can find laptop with a Nvidia GT840M on Newegg or Amazon for around 700 bucks (1080p display included), e.g. this Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9.

This is what I got recently (US link), and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a slightly better version of the Acer Aspire v5 you posted, and it's significantly better (in my opinion) than the Z40.

It's a sub $600 laptop that has a 720p-ish screen, 1 gb harddrive, 8 gb am, and an NVIDIA 840m. The processor can run as fast as 2.7 ghz. The 840m is not the best card in the world, but it will run circles around the 820m that /u/logicow posted. At 720p, the 840m can run Bioshock Infinite on medium at 60 fps. It can easily run dota 2, CS:GO,
Ultra Street Fighter 4, and Skyrim on respectable settings.

Here's the same computer with a 1080p display:

People on here often complain about the quality of Acer's hardware, but personally, I'm blown away. I owned two Lenovo laptops (g510p) in the span of 8 days. Both came broken (speakers on one and deal pixels on the other) The quality of the keyboard/bezel/trackpad was laughable. My Acer feels solid. It honestly feels like a Macbook in terms of the hardware quality.

Lastly, the acer boots up in 10 seconds. It's weird, because my gaming desktop with an SSD boots up in 15, and apparently the acer doesn't have an SSD. I can't really explain it, but the point is that it boots up in 10 seconds.

I have had zero experience with either companies' customer service so I couldn't say, but ASUS > ACER in build quality by far. Also it looks like I slightly botched my suggestion with the ACER with one that had poor resolution (The one time I forgot to check damnit!), but here is an equivalent one with an HD screen that isn't a touch.

u/double_rainbows · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

This did help! I'll probably end up buying the ACER Aspire V3 mentioned above. But I'm not 100% sure yet.

Why not build a computer? With that budget you can make an awesome computer. It's easy building a computer, and it's a great experience. I was just like you coming from consoles, and wanted to try PC gaming, so I built my own computer.

If you still want a laptop because of portability, maybe this laptop can do it for you. I have it, and it so far has run all the games I've thrown at it. It can probably run the games you listed as long as you don't run them at 1080p or high/ultra settings.

Thoughts on that as compared to this

Might want to check this Acer out, i was looking for a laptop for similar needs Work/gaming. I ended up choosing an HP envy i was looking at, but would have chosen the acer due to the dedicated Nvidia geforce GT849M.

Damn, good catch. I was browsing these so late at night that didn't even stick out to me.

Thanks for pointing me towards the 1080 acer. Would you reccomend the one you posted or this one, which has a slightly better i7? (also, Amazon seems to have your acer for $50 cheaper, if you notice on that link). I just don't know if $140 for a little better of a processor....
