I like this version of Acer Predator Helios 300 it has144Hz display refresh rate, newest 8th gen i7 processor, 16GB of Ram, backlit keyboard, 256GB SSD, 6 GB GTX 1060 dedicated graphics card. Its not the coolest laptop, this model has a better cooling system than older one, but if you will using it on heavy load, I would recommend a cooling pad it could help you to solve this problem, another way is to choose a 17.3" version, but its pricier.

Specifications:

There will be a lot of people having mix experience with it, so I would say it is not your best option in reliability side, I would recommend this [Acer Predator Helios 300] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PY18CN/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you need, 7th generation, i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 256GB for faster boot up and loading, 1TB HDD, 17.3 inch Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, GeForce GTX 1060 GPU that should be able to handle games on medium to high settings with very good FPs, decent battery life, very good heat management, backlit keyboard, and it’s within your budget.

The 17” on amazon is currently only $60 more and allows for overclocking the GPU and has a much much better screen, so I would go for that. It also comes with a 1TB HDD

Is the 1060 on this laptop the Max-Q or the regular laptop variety?

I'm still looking but here's what I found so far, all 17.3" with 16GB of RAM and an i7-7700HQ.

$1400 - MSI 120hz/5ms TN display, GTX 1060 card, No SSD - 1TB HDD.

$1200 - Acer 60hz/30ms? IPS display, GTX 1060, 256 SSD - 1TB HDD.

$1600 - Bundle - MSI 120hz/5ms TN display, GTX 1070, 256 SSD - 1TB HDD.

$1250 (on black friday) - ASUS 60hz/30ms?, GTX 1060, 256 SSD - 1TB HDD.
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234830&Tpk=34-234-830

$1150 - $1400(HP support was of no help, rumor is some Omen laptop series are going $250 off hence the $1150.) - HP 120hz/5ms IPS display, GTX 1060, 128 SSD - 1TB HDD.
http://store.hp.com/us/en/ConfigureView?catalogId=10051&langId=-1&storeId=10151&urlLangId=&catEntryId=1771653&quantity=1

If the Omens are all going to be $250 off the HP is a no brainer. I'm unlikely to purchase either of the 60hz models.

What do you think of https://www.amazon.com/NP7870-Gaming-i7-7700HQ-GeForce-Windows/dp/B07482H3CS I am not finding any reviews of stuff like the heating or steadiness of the build I also liked the https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-PH317-51-787B/dp/B073PY18CN/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 but I am hearing some bad feedback on the heating of the laptop. My problem is I am not going to do heavy gaming i just want to play on emulators for older games.
