Perhaps you'll be interested in this Acer Ultrabook S3. Currently the lowest price on Amazon (including non-major resellers) is $370; Amazon has it listed at $430. Compared to the HP Chromebook, you'll definitely be getting more bang for your buck - it has a lot more hard drive space (it comes with a 320GB HD/20GB SSD), a better processor (i3), more RAM (4GB) and an HD screen for yo precious eyes. Also, Windows 8 is on it, which may or may not be another selling point for you.

this acer is certainly what you will need especially considering your budget and requirement. its just over two pounds so carrying it wont be an issue.it has a really nice i3 processor, 320gb of storage space and a 4gb ram.

Would Linux work for you?

You'll get 6 hours battery life at most under $1000, unless you go for another chromebook and install Linux.

You also won't get under 4 pounds or so with a dedicated GPU for any price, or under $800 without one

SSDs are also rare under $1000, unless it's a small cache, although the Chromebooks are full SSD.

The Acer V7 is inexpensive, and is high-performance all around except for the HDD-only storage.

The Acer S3 is my recommendation for lightweight low-cost noteobooks. It's very nice for just over $400, but again it's HDD-only. Also the processor is 2 generations behind, but should perform adequately.

The Toshiba Chromebook meets your needs of battery life, weight, and SSD. If you install Linux, it's the most cost-efficient option you'll find. You can grab a bigger SSD and install it for more space as well.
