Would you be able to push your budget and get This acer because it comes with everything you need , 7th gen i5 dual core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good battery life, USB type C, very light weight at 3.31 lbs and it is within your budget.

If you don't like that one then I would recommend that you check out my reddit post about best laptops to buy for college and gaming as there will be few similar options there :)

Check out the Acer Swift 3.

  • Windows 10
  • 14" screen, 1080p IPS screen
  • 10 hour battery
  • decent build (aluminum)
  • light (3.3 lbs)
  • fingerprint scanner
  • backlit keyboard
  • 256GB SSD
  • 8GB DDR4 ram
  • i5 7200u

This ultrabook is good on the go for taking notes and matches many of your requirements. However, there is no numpad. Also, you'll probably won't be able to run Civ V very well at all, but you'll be fine playing flash games, or other non graphically intensive games. But in all, this laptop is decently priced and will satisfy most of your needs in college.

If you want something a bit more portable, I would highly suggest looking into the HP Envy 13 for $620. It is a pretty well built and solid machine with a new kaby lake i5 processor, 8gb of ram, 256gb SSD and HD 620 graphics. It also comes with a 1080p IPS display, a 14 hour advertised battery life, and it weighs in at 2.9 lbs.

For something a bit bigger maybe look into the Acer Swift 5 or the Acer Swift 3.

None of these options have great gaming capabilities though. They will work fine for light games or some moderate games on low settings, but nothing too demanding. For more suggestions to get a better idea of what you're looking for, you can look at my comprehensive list of recommendations here.

This Acer Swift 3 would definitely get the job done however you will need some additional storage for your photos, preferably external.

For you i would definately recommend this Acer Swift 3 Intel Core i5-7200U processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, intergrated graphics card
14" 1080p FHD IPS display for wider viewing angles, it weighs about 3.3lbs, 10 hour battery advertised life

As mentioned, quality is very model dependent.

How about this?

lol @ solitaire on Ultra

You can get the Acer Swift 3 to get a solid build quality with its aluminum chassis. Its a great bang for your buck laptop and it has everything you need and is below budget

  • 14" Full HD,
  • 7th Gen Intel Core i5-7200U,
  • 8GB DDR4,
  • 256GB SSD

The SSD will give you a fast boot time as well

I'm open to any suggestions, though I have been thinking of going with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MT5YW65?th=1&psc=1
Any input on this build will be much appreciated.

I would recommend the HP ENVY 13-ab016nr Notebook. Specs: Intel Core i5-7200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD or the Acer Swift 3, 14inch Full HD, 7th Gen Intel Core i5-7200U, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD i like them both for you :-).

u/MetaAbegg · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I actually went with this acer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT5YW65/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (7th gen i5, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB Ram)
So far I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

This is the one. It's not 8th gen intel, it's the one sold by Cardinal Pro Electronics if you click more buying options.

I was looking for a laptop for my sister. She's a teacher so she doesn't need a good graphics card or anything, I wanted to make sure she got something with an SSD. Is only the newest model good? I don't know if they are selling refurbished models or something since they don't make the old one anymore.

I think I might go with the Lenovo Flex 5 that is in the other deals list on this sub. Although I really liked the swift, it's just I don't really trust the third party sellers.

Acer Aspire E 15 for the best bang for your buck. Has a 940mx and advertised 12hr battery life.

Acer Swift 3 for more portability. Doesn't have a dedicated gpu but is half as heavy and has an advertised 10hr battery life.

u/Trekky0623 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Hmm. I might go with this one.

If I wanted something a little lighter and thinner, what would you think about sacrificing the graphics card for something like this?

u/SnazzyMetro · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I found another Acer Swift 3, and they have a few differences. I don't know how to make tables but the bolded terms are the ones from the one you recommended.

*****

  • Ram is LPDDR3 instead of DDR4.

  • Processor is 1.6 GHz vs 2.5 GHz

  • Graphics co processor is NVIDIA GeForce MX150 instead of Intel HD Graphics 620

  • Card description is dedicated vs integrated.

  • Graphics Card RAM size is 2000GB vs not mentioned.

  • Wireless Type is 802.11ac vs not mentioned.

  • 3 vs 1 USB 3.0 ports

  • 3.75lb vs 3.31lb

  • 4 processors vs 1 processor.

  • A bit more expensive but within price range vs cheaper.

My questions are basically, which is better in what way? Or if you have time to explain things to me, what do the different coprocessors do? How come one has wireless type and Graphics Card Ram size and the other doesn't? What do RAM type differences mean? And what does 4 vs 1 processor do?

Again, thank you for your time!

Instead of this get this one https://www.amazon.com/UX330UA-AH54-13-3-inch-Ultra-Slim-Processor-Fingerprint/dp/B01M18UZF5
i5-7200U
13.3 inch Full HD display

256GB SSD
Windows 10 OS
Fingerprint Reader
Metal Body.....
Second one is Acer Swift 3 https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Swift-i5-7200U-Windows-SF314-51-57CP/dp/B01MT5YW65
with same configuration as above

Hi, these are the best models I found based on your requirements: noteb search result.

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

I would recommend the: Acer Swift 3 SF314-51 (2017).

Another option with a bigger budget would be the: Lenovo Ideapad 720S-14. With a dedicated graphics card (Nvidia 940MX).

Both of the laptops above have good build quality for a longer life span, and are light-weight for portability. Having 8 gb of ram will help you in the next 2-3 years, and the SSD will help your operating system be faster even with more demanding software.

You can buy the Acer HERE or HERE.

You can buy the Lenovo HERE.
