It's just an enclosure without hardware RAID, connects via Thunderbolt or USB 3. It's fast on your iMac with Thunderbolt and you can hook it up to other devices using with USB. It's only Thunderbolt 1 but still decent.

This is extremely future proof, has Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3, has a hardware RAID but you just switch it off on the back.
On both you just add your SSDs and connect one cable. Both SSDs will be seen by macOS and Windows actually.

You plug in your HD/SSD and they'll stick out on the top, there's no cooling so it's not suitable for continuous usage.
