> "Can you count?" asked the Red Queen.
> "Why, of course!" replied Alice.
> "Very well then, let's see if you can really count. Are you ready?"
> "I'm ready," said Alice.
> "A stagecoach went from London to Harwich and started out with six passengers. Do you think you can remember that?"
> "Of course I can remember that," replied Alice. "There's not much to remember!"
> "Very well," replied the Queen, "the coach made a stop and two passengers got off and four passengers got on. Got that?"
> "Yes," replied Alice, who was keeping count.
> "Then the coach went on, made another stop, and three passengers got off. Are you following?"
> "Yes," said Alice, who was still faithfully keeping count.
> "Then the coach went on, made another stop, and two passengers got off and two passengers got on."
> "That's the same as if the coach hadn't stopped at all!" exclaimed Alice.
> "I wish you wouldn't keep interrupting me!" exclaimed the Red Queen. "It only puts me out!"
> "I haven't kept interrupting you," replied Alice (who is very logical). "I've interrupted you only once, and one must interrupt someone at least twice before he can be said to keep interrupting him."
> "True," replied the Queen, "but I'm giving this examination, child, not you!
> "Anyway," continued the Queen, "the coach went on, made another stop, and three people got off and five got on. Are you still keeping count?"
> "Yes, I am," replied Alice.
> "Then the coach arrived in Harwich and all the passengers got off. How many times did the coach stop?"
> "Oh, I wasn't counting that!" exclaimed Alice.
> "You see, she can't count!" the Red Queen triumphantly exclaimed.
> "Not a bit!" the White Queen agreed.
> "You'll never be able to pass an examination unless you can count!" said the Red Queen.
> "But I can count," pleaded poor Alice. "It's just that I counted the wrong thing!"
> "That's no excuse," replied the Red Queen. "You should always count everything, because everything counts."

Don't overlook math presented as a moving narrative.
Not to blow my own horn, but if an e-book would work for you, you might enjoy Spot The Alien. It's a series of logic puzzles set in a small town being invaded by aliens.
I also highly recommend Raymond Smullyan's Alice in Puzzle-land, which is a classic.
