Nice, I'm liking that look on you. Some advice from a fellow head shaver

Look into getting a Wahl five star foil shaver. Use the close or comfort close head

And an Andis t-liner and you will never have to worry about razor bumps.

I would say it depends on your budget. I've been a Barber for close to Twenty years. Here are some of my recommendations:

If you want a sharp line for your neck area, goatee or mustache, do yourself a favor and pick up an Andis T-Outliner Trimmer. I've had mine for 15 years. I'd consider it a true BuyItForLife product for any guy that has any facial hair whatsoever or cuts their hair at home.

Thanks dude! I just started cutting my hair bald for the first time this year. I found the best clippers where I don't have to use a razor and the hair looks super close: Andis T Outliner! I love em, I now shave my hair maybe every 3 days. Is that what everyone else is doing?

u/MBuoya · 3 pointsr/Frugal

I've been cutting my hair for 8 years now, this is what I've been using, same quality machines you'll find at a barber shop and they last for years.

I tried those $20 Wahl's before, they broke on me. I bought a couple of them before I decided to get a decent one. I find that in clippers you usually get what you pay for.

I decided to upgrade awhile ago to this trimmer and I think it was a great decision. Those body hair trimmers always seem so flimsy and I probably went through at least 4 of them.

It sounds like you could get away with a very close cut. I would recommend the Andis T-Outliner. As for shaving to the bone, I made the switch from razors to electric and use the Wahl 4000. This is the technique I use to shave my head.

u/dallast313 · 2 pointsr/Blackfellas

Razor bumps are created by the hair growing back into the skin, breaking it, and all the related inflammation/infection. Electric razors, particularly the Norelco, work on the premise of lifting the hair above the skin, cutting it, and letting the hair drop below the skin after the tension is released. For a man with even slightly curly hair, this is a recipe for DISASTER. The tighter the curl pattern the worse the results. The Norelco must go!

What he needs/wants is something that cuts close enough to give him a clean look, but leaves the hair at/above skin level so that the curl pattern doesn't dig back into the skin. He needs trimmers. Pick him up some professional quality trimmers like these or these. Make sure to also pick up spray lubricating disinfectant (not plain alcohol!), clipper oil, and store them in a large zip lock freezer bag (humidity protection). They will last literally forever as long as not dropped.

He will need to make trimming part of his daily routine. He may still get "razor" bumps in areas where his hair is particularly curly or if his hair grows fast even with the trimmers. So staying on top of it is a must. Also, running a CLEAN straight edge, like a credit card, against the grain of those hairs through the day may help them not dig into his skin. Most likely though, running a trimmer over his face once/twice a day should keep him clean "shaven" without the bumps.

I actually used to used the Braun series but I switched to using an outliner similar to this.

It shaves just as close as a razor and they're easier maintenance than an electric shaver.

u/brainguy222 · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Buy a semi-professional one. The cheaper ones, $20 and below, don't last long, but if you are only going to use it for trimming your side burns or nose hairs and not an actual beard, then it will serve you fine. Ask your local barber where he gets his trimmer. The brand and model he gets will likely be the high quality and easier to get in your area. (sounds like you live overseas) If you want it shipped to you from the US i say something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Andis-Professional-T-Outliner-Personal-Trimmer/dp/B000143C0K/ref=sr_1_16?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1335288490&sr=1-16

Andis is a very good company, but make sure to get their more expensive stuff because their cheap stuff is not all that great.

u/SarcasticOptimist · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

A good quality corded shaver will do the trick; the ones at barbershops will be sufficient. Besides Wahl, this Andis and Oster are also worth considering. The big maintenance item is oiling.

u/agent-99 · 2 pointsr/tifu

hairdresser here: get the kind of clippers one can use without a guard on skin if he wants it shaved off, like it sounds he does, instead of shaved short. i use these. they shouldn't cut your skin, and the ones that go with a guard are best with a guard on, or with a comb between skin and blade.

i use this brush to brush the hairs off the blade.

VERY IMPORTANT: you need clipper oil to oil between the blades to keep your blades working as long as possible and not rusting! put a few drops where the blades meet each other, turn them on for a sec, wipe them off, start clipping!

u/SonOfTheSunGod · 2 pointsr/everymanshouldknow

Best trimmer I ever had

sorry, not rechargeable.

u/agamemnons · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use an Andis Professional T-Outliner to get the rough line in my beard. Then I use OSTER Fast Feeds to trim all the hairs down. Then, I use a straight razor to line up the actual line. I use an Aberlite Beard Shaper with the straight razor and Aloe Vera as a shave gel

I also pluck the thicker hairs on my cheeks every now and then

u/Mership · 2 pointsr/Blackfellas

Andis T outliner.

https://www.amazon.com/Andis-T-Outliner-Trimmer-T-Blade-04710/dp/B000143C0K

Get one they are what most black barbers use and they work.

I will never use a razor again. I have tried three different times in the last 10 year and every time I got razor bumps, no matter what technique I used.

With the grain, hot towel before and after, speciality shaving cream etc, etc, etc none of that shit works for my face.

u/faywashere · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Been using mine to trim my beard for 3 years now. Battery is still going strong, and it works great. Vacum aspect works decently, but is not the selling point of the device. Has multiple lengths to choose from, digital dial is great.

I use the andis t-outliner to line up my beard and get rid of neck hair, its super close, almost like a clean shave.

I bought both machines 3 years ago, work like perfect even after 3-4 usages/week. Norleco requires only minimal cleaning, removing a piece and removing hair. The t-outliner requires oiling after usages and depending on how thick your hair is maybe a compressed air can to get some hair out (or unscrew it and do it). I haven't had to unscrew mine or use compressed air on it, and it works great, all I do is oil it after every usage.

Andis owner here. I've had mine for about 6 years, and it's freaking bulletproof. After years of searching, this was the one I ended up with:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000143C0K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Lucosis · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

This is my recommendation for a shavette. ~$25 and prime eligible from Amazon. I've bought two of them now and we use them in the shop.

Do be careful maintaining that part yourself though. You might have a couple issues cleaning it up yourself with a straight razor. Honestly I'd recommend an Andis T-Outliner. It won't get as close as a razor but it'll be damn near it, and it'll last you a lifetime as long as you oil the blade occasionally.

u/narcism · 1 pointr/AskReddit

First time will itch like a beast. Rest are fine. Don't put rubbing alcohol or anything of that nature on cuts.

YMMV, but I use this. I do it backwards on the 'ol berries.

u/readk · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

You can. You can pickup a T-outliner or outliner II for something around 60 bucks. They will last 20 years, barbers swear by them. https://www.amazon.com/Andis-Professional-T-Outliner-Trimmer-04710/dp/B000143C0K/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1521474069&sr=8-3&keywords=andis+t+outliner

You can adjust the blade to leave a couple mm of stubble with just unscrewing a screw and moving it and tightening it again.

u/the_black_dookie · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

I'm biracial black and Eurasian mix and i get the worst bumps. If you want a clean shave that feels like a razor here ya go:

http://www.amazon.com/Andis-T-Outliner-Trimmer-T-Blade-04710/dp/B000143C0K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418791091&sr=8-2&keywords=andis+clippers

Black barbers are some of the greatest skin experts get one of these adjusted and they'll last you for years. Plus they're great if your into lining your hair up.

u/icecow · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I spent most of my childhood and some of my adulthood thinking haircuts are a waste of money, but it's the opposite. I feel so much better with decent haircuts. Now I see letting my hair go too long as wasted youth.

Go to barber and tell them you want something more clean cut and modern, because you got to get away from 'this' and point to your hair. People want to help others that are interested in bettering themselves. It helps to walk in there wearing better clothes too. Better clothes can be a matching belt and solid teeshirt. Take pictures. After you figure out a few cuts and have pictures you can go to $10 barbers and show them the pictures. If you find a good enough $10 barber you can get your hair cut more often. Get it cut every 5 weeks four times in a row and see how you think about yourself. Again, there's nothing deficient about you. You just 'wear' your hair, beard, shirt and facial expression like you are saying 'whatever'. Go for that other posters Van Dyke suggestion.

get one of these and a shavette and do the van dyke thing or other. https://www.amazon.com/Andis-T-Outliner-Trimmer-T-Blade-04710/dp/B000143C0K/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469511454&sr=8-1&keywords=andis+t+liner

I think they should have electric ones that are specifically for line ups, this razor was found with a quick amazon search
