I like Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day - it's a sort of Cinderella story set in the 1930-40's, so the ending might possibly be considered corny, but I loved it. A very happy book.
EDIT: I also found Are You Dave Gorman?, Join Me and Friends Like These very amusing and light-hearted.
I would love to read this please. It's in the used section for £1.74 delivered which is less than $4 I think :)

Very diffrent to most other suggestions, but the book that made me laugh out loud the most is 'Are You Dave Gorman'.
I like the books by Danny Wallace. They inspire me to live more in the moment, be more open-minded, and indirectly also to travel (which I'm planning on doing next year). They are also very funny. I especially like Yes Man (this is what that Jim Carey movie is based on), Are you Dave Gorman (travels around the world meeting everyone whose name is Dave Gorman :p), and Join Me: The True Story of a Man Who Started a Cult by Accident
