Was the name ever be "dual gaming"? I've known the "dual" branded asus gpu for a while and i don't think they ever use "dual gaming" on the box.

Even the gtx 1060 version only say "dual" on the box (https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Dual-fan-Gaming-Graphics-DUAL-GTX1060-O6G/dp/B01JHQT1SE)

That's a horrible deal, these are only 283 on Amazon

Also 1070s here go for around 250

u/diasporajones · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I found an Asus Dual OC 6gb for $250 on Amazon last December. That seemed like a very respectable price at the time and paired with an i5 3570k @4.0ghz they are basically both hitting close to 100% utilization on most demanding new AAA titles at max settings 1080/60, particularly those games which are also CPU intensive.

That's for reference. My point is you may want to compare my CPU to yours and consider whether your CPU will give you more headroom (i.e. won't bottleneck the card) than mine, at which point a 1070 would be more logical to get the most out of your system. Assuming you can find one at a decent price (like max $100-150 more than I paid for my 1060) which sadly seems really unrealistic right now. And if the 1060 6gb is the right card for you and you don't wanna wait until prices go back to normal, which seems to be happening slowly but who the hell really knows, then I wouldn't pay more than $280 absolute maximum for a 1060 6gb OC version. I was ready to do that myself before I found a good deal around Christmas, and I jumped right on it bc throughout November and December the price had been hanging out around $270.

Check this link to see how prices have been changing over the past year. Aside from special promo codes and bundle deals, in my experience at least Amazon seems to represent the average/lowest prices of cards at any given time, as long as they are in stock:

You are talking about this one ? Yes it would definitely be a great choice, and you'll run games at high setting without problems. But it's 200$ more expensive.

The Video card is at least one third the price you are requesting: around $300 Shipped: https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Dual-fan-Gaming-Graphics-DUAL-GTX1060-O6G/dp/B01JHQT1SE

If you shipped the system free it would totally be very decent price, all in all for the 5 1600 which is about the best bang for the money out there. Good luck.

2600K and 16gb of DDR3 could carry a better GPU. You'd be pretty well off with an RX 480 or a GTX 1060. Going way up to the $400-$700 range of GPU would be really questionable with a 2600K, but it's not so behind as to not be useful to the current $200-$270 range cards.

Some of the best picks for a 2600K right now:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JHQT1SE/

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MU0OIN5/

RX 480 is generally a few percent faster with 2gb more RAM for a few bucks cheaper, that's what I'd go with. GTX 1060 is a little more expensive for slightly less performance potential, but Nvidia is much more actively involved with game developers on PC so many titles are very well optimized for their hardware. Both are really quite good so it's a hard choice.

If you cant find a psu/1tb hdd for under $100 there's something wrong, the Dell I cannot link, you can buy a used missing HDD (don't need) for $79.99 or a refurb for $110 (Google Dell optifine 790 i5) its an online listing and automod killed my last post. If you honestly cannot find a psu/hdd here's a sub $50 1TB HDD via pcpartpicker, don't know the wattage but 500 watts should do you for $34.99 500 not enough? How about 620 for a few dollars more that will easily run the pc.

Ram is cheap, a full $80 for 16 gb

Edit: forgot the GPU, current price for the budget build? $225.89 Amazon, gtx 1660 3gb or you could improve your performance by a lot and upgrade for $70 more to the 6gb version. This is CURRENT PRICES at a comparable price to the xbox.

u/MeCJay12 · 1 pointr/buildapc

First off you need to pick a different CPU/Mobo. I'd recommend a Ryzen 3 1300X and a ASUS Prime B350-Plus. The Ryzen CPU comes with a CPU cooler so you no longer need the one you have. Then you can upgrade to an ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. This will get you similar CPU performance + OCing and better graphics performance.

u/GreenDino123 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hey thanks for the quick reply! I mostly use my PC for gaming, and my current GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. And my current ram is 2 sticks of 8GB of ram (16GB total) from Corsair.

In terms of budget i'm rather flexible with how much I need to spend. I feel like my comfortable limit is around $200-$400 for a CPU, that being said if there is an option that is really good that is even cheaper than that, I would be willing to get that instead. If upgrading my motherboard and Ram is something that I need to do as well because of my outdated parts, then obviously i'm willing to spend more than my CPU budget.

I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to CPU's so i'm not sure what is good or not, however i'm getting better at knowing other parts such as GPU's and ram.

I don't think I need the CPU upgrade immediately, however some of the issues with my games are getting rather obnoxious when they occur (games becoming unresponsive for a half second or so when things get hectic). Most games work fine on my PC but I have noticed some of the newer games are beginning to have issues, even to the point of crashing to desktop in the middle of a game. Not going to go too much further with my tech issues as that's for a different subreddit.

Thanks again for the quick reply!

Thanks for the speedy response! A few questions. Does it really matter which 270 I go for? My initial response is just to go to the 270A since I was at 170A.

The GPU is this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JHQT1SE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I will take your advice on the Power Supply. Do you think I should go up to a GTX 1070?

And lastly, you said that I might need an update with a SkyLake CPU... Isn't The CPU I'm buying KabyLake?

edit: nevermind I figured out the CPU thing, and the 270A is compatible. Thanks again for your help!

I bought this a year ago for $250, so I would wait for prices to come down. Unless that extra $100 isn't a huge deal to you.

There aren't a whole lot of 1060's that have two HDMI ports. But this ASUS dual fan model looks like it does.

https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Dual-Fan-Gaming-Graphics-DUAL-GTX1060-O6G/dp/B01JHQT1SE/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478907232&sr=1-6&keywords=gtx+1060+6gb

Looks like the extra HDMI was put on that card with VR headset owners in mind. If you want to find a different two-HDMI model (assuming there are more) you might look for that type of model.

Thanks for your response, I was looking at plurging a bit more and grabbing a 1070 but the 1060 looks to be quite adequate for my needs. Is this one you'd recommend: Link

I'll research the RX 480, my main concern is for password hash bruteforcing performance, but if I remember correctly, I read the 480 was very comparable in performance, I just haven't had an ATI card since my 9800 Pro back in the early 2000's, which was awesome at the time. I just know a lot of the tools I use are better coded to make use of CUDA and therefore better performance.

I see a GTX 1070 for a little under $500. I see the GTX 1060 is $300. Would two 1060s be better than the one 1070? I'm thinking in terms of being able to buy just one 1060 now, and another in a couple of months to help minimize the immediate cost of my build, assuming it's worthwhile.

I game casually most of the time. Last year all I played was a boat load of hours on tf2 and I don't think overwatch takes a lot of power (but I could be wrong). I bought the laptop for school since the laptop itself is surprisingly pretty decent (battery screen speakers and keyboard). It ran the test cad file (I usually go to the lab anyway and so the cad I would run would be the basic stuff for homework) and it worked decently.

When I was looking at the laptop I noticed the thunderbolt 3 port (before that I was going to just get a Nintendo switch) and though for the same price I can buy an external gpu and the dock. (Maybe get a second hand graphics card off Craigslist ( I found a 980 4gb one for 320 and I can always barter down to 300). That would be $460 total and even with the bottle neck on the thunderbolt cable it should be enough to do 1080p gaming

Is that correct or am I off my rocker?

I'm wondering if there's any significant or noteworthy differences between the following 1060 6GB GPUs. The Amazon links are only for reference purposes as I am buying them locally.

ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ROG STRIX

MSI GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X

Asus Dual GTX 1060 OC 6GB

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING

PNY GeForce GTX 1060 6GB XLR8

Only thing I've heard is that it's much better to have 2 fans (so I guess that would rule out the EVGA one) but aside from that I'm not sure if the price differences are worth it or not. They're all priced pretty much the same, with the exception of the MSI which is around $25 more than the rest, and the ASUS Strix being $40 more.

u/_Titus_ · 1 pointr/buildapc

Just a note - looks like they're restocking video cards on Amazon August 1st. Prices are dropping a good $60-$80 on the 1060. For example: https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Dual-fan-Gaming-Graphics-DUAL-GTX1060-O6G/dp/B01JHQT1SE/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1500992704&sr=1-4

u/pterencephalon · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you want to fit in an SSD, you could squeeze a bit more out of the budget. For example, you have a $330 1060 in your proposed build, but if you're willing to do a bit of waiting, there's usually a 1060 on Amazon for $280 (such as this Asus model right now.) If you're going for mini (maybe that case is small?), there's actually a Zotac mini 1060 for $250 right now. That would leave enough room for a 240 GB A-data SP550 SSD.

u/ArkLinux · 0 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I would recommend this one. Its memory speed is the highest, and the second fastest clock speed. The one with the highest clock speed is made by Asus. And Asus has terrible customer support, so I would stay away from that.

Here's my quick build on it, not perusing for price savings. I could probably shave a few hundred off (i.e. going for air cooling instead of liquid), but if I were going to build one for me, this is how I'd do it. Cost ended up being about on par (~$2,850) for a more powerful machine (GTX1080 > Radeon Pro 580)

Case - $49.99

CPU - $295.00

Motherboard - $114.99

RAM - $126.99

PSU - $129.67

GPU - $576.62

Storage - $139.50

Liquid cooling - $107.99

Display - $1,299.99

Total:
$2840.74

Ways to shave some off -
Look at other monitors, I didn't really hunt too much here as I'm not an expert in that field, so I just looked for a "true" color 5k. I think HP's would fit that bill at around $900 (so $400 cheaper), but I could be wrong, so I went with the more pricey one.

Go with the GTX1070 (saves about $100) or the GTX1060 (saves about $300).

Nix liquid cooling and just go with air cooled (save $107.99)

Which puts a "budget" build of this at ~$2,400, $2,000 if the HP monitor works. Plus, since it's all on Amazon, if you have their store card, -5%, so, that puts us at ~$2280 (-400 if the HP monitor fits the bill) for the budget build and $2,698.70 (-400 if the HP monitor counts) for how I'd actually build it if I were doing it for me.

Your comparing his more expensive 1060 with cheaper versions. If you look for links comparing the same exact card you'll see his card retails for 280 (265 with rebate on newegg) and is massive in size. The cheapest I found used was 250 (amazon) so his 240 price isn't that bad really.
