I would also probably go 1440 over 4k. The performance benefits are much better, and coming from someone who dropped from 4k to 1440, you wont notice a HUGE difference between them.

GSync is awesome, I love it, and if it fits in your budget, it is definitely worth checking out. I can drop down to 45-50 FPS and never really notice that it is that it has dropped below 60.

The most important things that I could recommend is looking at the games you play and deciding if you want a faster response time or better color reproduction/better viewing angles and what refresh you want to have.

TN monitors are the way to go for faster response time, and many FPS players prefer them for that reason. IPS will get you the best color reproduction and viewing angles, but will be more expensive than a TN counterpart. Both offer refresh of up to 144Hz and there are TN monitors that go as high as 200Hz.

I hope this helps a little in making your decision.

One of my fave 1440p Monitors IPS 144Hz GSync:

This is exactly what I want too. 27" 144Hz and G-sync. Here are the 3 that I've found and bookmarked and have been price-checking religiously:

Size =! highest end. There's a correlation. When I think high end monitor, I'd shoot closer to $700+

AFAIK, the only 1440p 144hz monitor is the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q

It's not 28", but it's 27" at least.

u/nineZer0 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

With SLI 980's I'd definitely go for the ROG Swift over the PB278Q.

I have the PB278Q (PB278QR actually) and it's as great display. While it's not 144hz and doesn't have G sync it's perfect for my use as I do a lot of color-critical photography and retouching work in Photoshop.

I went with a single GTX 970 which is more than good enough for ~60fps with the PB278Q. With your pair of SLI'd 980s you should consider the ASUS ROG Swift which would be the perfect match for your GPU setup. I personally would never pay that much money for a TN panel even with G sync and 144hz but again, that's me and I have different needs.

If you want you can go 4K as well but 4K on a 28-inch display means very, very tiny text given the amount of pixels. Go have a look at one first before you decide on getting one. 1440p would be more practical for gaming anyway!

u/TFCarrot · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Why not both?

u/u3z · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

It looks like there are a lot of 1ms TN panels, I am also considering this guy, which is 144Hz, 1ms. Dell has one that I am looking at, too.

This one is pretty good. It's expensive, but it's nice. And it does have GSYNC so it optimizes your refresh rate to reduce screen tearing and stuttering as much as possible.

u/Yreisolgakig · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Probably the ROG Swift

u/ryanhd6950 · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'd say go for 1440p 144hz G-Sync, it's a good middle ground resolution and you will LOVE the increased refresh rate. Check out the Asus ROG Swift

u/AngrySpock · 2 pointsr/nvidia

I just went through this whole debate myself after I upgraded from a 770 to a 1070. I had initially considered a 1080 but I felt this was actually overkill for my personal requirements as a gamer. The 1070 saved me money and leaves the door open for an upgrade to the 1080Ti whenever that comes out.

In the end, I picked out this monitor, the 27" ASUS RoG Swift, 1440p/144Hz with G-Sync. I was prepared to buy it for myself but my wife surprised me big time and got it for me for my birthday.

I have to say I have been very pleased with my decision (and my wife!). The monitor looks amazing and I've got it running at 144Hz on the desktop. For BF1, I typically get between 75 and 100 FPS in game. I can't really perceive the framerate going up or down though, thanks to G-Sync. It keeps things really smooth.

This monitor replaced a 24" 1080p/60Hz monitor and the difference is very noticeable since I kept the old monitor on as a secondary next to my new primary. BUT, I would say that if I had to pick one feature, it is the refresh rate that I notice more than the resolution. I can shake a window around on the 60Hz monitor then drag it over to the 144Hz and do the same thing, and the difference in smoothness is very apparent. The resolution upgrade is less noticeable for me.

My old monitor lasted me a little over 4 years before I felt compelled to upgrade and that's what I'm looking to get out of my new monitor.

Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure it's not a Black Friday deal, but the Amazon warehouse is selling the PG278Q for about $526. Cosmetic damage on the "top", less than 5%, whatever that's supposed to mean.
Regardless, checks all the boxes for me and many others: 144Hz, 1440p, G-Sync, 27". I've got one sitting in my cart while I keep looking, maybe you should do the same?

Monitor: Asus PG278Q and Stand / Arm: Mount-It! MI-750

Highly recommend the stand if you don't care about rotating the screen from landscape to portrait. Very well built, has nice cable tie areas, and has different adjustments based on the width of your desk.

u/masonjam · 2 pointsr/buildapc

He meant the USED monitors: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00MSOND8C/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Yeah you can get them a bit cheaper, but used items usually have a lot of caveats, they're returned used for a reason. If I remember I think there were quite a few complaints about bad ROG Swifts being delivered to customers brand new, so, these could be those returns. (maybe dead pixels that weren't acceptable (and really shouldn't be) to consumers but not to the manufacturers)

u/Ziakel · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

Considering they don't make this one anymore and the PG278QR is the new one that selling for $670. 600ish is still high imo. You can get a used one on Amazon for around $560

I'm looking to get a new dual monitor setup. I have already ordered an ASUS Swift, which gives me 1440p, 144hz, etc.
http://www.amazon.com/PG278Q-27-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8

My question is, what should I choose as a second monitor? Would I be better off getting an IPS monitor? A 4k resolution? Perhaps even the same monitor as above? I know this comes down to preference, but I'm curious to hear some opinions.

u/offshell · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I'm using a Benq XL2420G with my PC for gaming and a 5k iMac for most other things at home. I considered the Asus PG278Q, but some of the quality complaints scared me off and I've been pretty happy running a single 980. There is also the Acer XB270HU IPS 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor coming out soon that looks to be a pretty nice setup and might even push me to upgrade once I see a few more reviews.

My requirements at the moment are something greater than 1080p for work and a g-sync (or freesync later) monitor at 144hz for gaming. If I only played games where I could easily get 144fps I might be able to forego g-sync for lightboost, but I've been happy with g-sync in bf4 and wouldn't want to play without it now.

u/LoLOptimalice · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

Appreciate the response! So let's say I go with two 970's, based on your experience what can I expect when I put it with a monitor like this

u/BillTheCommunistCat · 2 pointsr/buildapc

ASUS rog swift is an amazing monitor that has everything you'll need. It is really expensive though.

If that is too pricey for you just make sure you get a monitor that has 1440p, 1ms response time, GSync, and the refresh rate is left up to you (although I suggest 144hz).

u/leminlim3 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Honestly it depends on what you want to pay. Those aren't bad specs for the price, you could get better specs if you wanted to spend a little more coin. I originally listed the ROG Swift, but it is a lot more pricey than the one in your build, so I switched it out for the other BenQ one.

u/bazgrim_dev · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

They don't make the one I own anymore as it's a few years old, they have an updated version. Here's the one I own: https://www.amazon.com/SWIFT-PG278Q-27-inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C/

144hz + GSync + 1MS

This is the updated version: https://www.amazon.com/PG278QR-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B01N4ENDXR/

165hz and new panel, but otherwise everything else is about the same. I would HIGHLY recommend you buy a monitor locally and not online. When you buy any of these monitors you are playing the panel lottery, they make these panels very thin and sometimes the bleed is very bad. I had to return mine twice when I first bought it due to bleed problems, but third times the charm! Served me well for the past 3 years and hoping it will last me another 3 or longer.

This is not specific to ASUS, it's related to all TN/IPS panels. A little bleed is normal, but sometimes it's really bad.

u/jacobs0n · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I suggest getting a 144hz 1440p monitor. You could check this out: http://www.144hzmonitors.com/gaming-monitors-buyers-guide-december-2015/

Edit: Derp, didn't see that someone already posted this.

If you changed your mind and you're willing to spend more, you can always get an Asus ROG Swift. Best monitor you can buy, also expensive af.

u/shadowlyr · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Just checked the amazon page, and they're claiming they have bad stock so I would stray from it right now. The Asus ROG PG278Q seems to be the best 1440p 144hz, monitor with gsync from the ratings I was able to look at.

u/WakkkaFlakaFlame · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

TLDR unless you have dual 1080s or some of the new Titans, nope.

I recommend a 1440P 144hz monitor instead, as well:

Specs:

Processor: I7 4790-k (4.0 hz)

Video Card: GTX 780

Ram: 32 gigs (can't remember the clock speed)

I usually run 1440. On massive fights, it can dip down to 60. I'm usually sitting around 100 fps. (Note: I play with everything on ultra other than shadows, which are off.

with a gtx 1070-1080 (or whatever AMD card that is the same as that) I would imagine you could sit over 120 comfortably for a 144hz monitor.

I'm waiting for the 1080ti to buy my 144hz monitor though :(

Asus ROG Swift for 1440p.

u/Iceweasel1337_ · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I don't think there would be a bottleneck. And yes, there are plenty of 1440p 144 hz monitors. Here's a top-of-the-line one:

https://www.amazon.com/SWIFT-PG278Q-27-inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1487621969&sr=8-2&keywords=asus+rog+swift+1440p+144hz

Waiting is always gonna benefit you. But if theres no limit on budget, http://www.amazon.com/Asus-PG278Q-27-Inch-G-SYNC-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457907345&sr=8-2&keywords=4k+gsync this is a good choice for your gpus. Only vsync limits your fps. Gsync aligns the monitor with the gpu so you dont lose fps.

u/wolfcry0 · 2 pointsr/gamingpc

This is one of the only ones out there that I know of right now ASUS PG278Q

It's a TN panel but that's the only way to get 1440p at 120/144hz out of the box right now

There are also the korean monitors like Qnix that are 1440p IPS and can be overclocked to 120hz, but they have a huge gamma swing when overclocked and tend to skip frames, and only some of them overclock well (I use one of these and just game at 60hz, it's a beautiful screen since it's a matte IPS panel)

u/Breakfast_Assortment · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Yeah I think so as well. And thank you for the tip, I am going to keep the monitor however.

Do you have any suggestions for a monitor? (I really do not know much about Displays to be honest.)

As a side note: I have a friend willing to give me his ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q 27-inch for $350.

Just a note, I didn't include a monitor because I could only find one that fit your requirements and it costs a little more than your budget can handle. http://www.amazon.com/PG278Q-27-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C/, and on top of that, it won't be available for another 30 days or so.

1080p 144Hz monitors cost ~$250, and 1440p 60Hz monitors cost ~$350. You can wait and spend more to get both, or you can choose one over the other.
u/courtlandj · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

$975 vs. $340. I think OP has you beat price-wise!

u/SearingEnigma · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Click the 2560x1440 box on here, and that's the one I have. Like I said, though, it's a Freesync monitor, so you'd want the Gsync equivalent. Something like this, but jeez, I have no idea why Gsync monitors always cost more.

Oh, this is the one I would've wanted when I was considering an Nvidia card. Only $509 right now, but for some reason, looks like they edited the page a bunch since I last looked at it. Should have all the same specs, they just don't seem to care to advertise it at the top anymore. It's all in the product description though.

My rig is overkill for 1080p at 60hz. I may be in the market for a monitor (depends if I end up liking the Vive I'm going to demo this Thursday).

Currently I am fairly certain this is my best option: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MSOND8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RGYGxbT59H390

But also, Best Buy has a Samsung 4K 28" monitor for only $400! Sounds like a killer price to me. I'm just wondering which would be the best. My main game is CSGO which I can pull well over 100fps in 4K super sampled. Then again 144hz is amazing in competitive games. So many choices!

u/Chz18 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Hell yea man. I upgraded to the ROG Swift a couple months ago. I'll never go back.

u/schoff · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

What's your budget? That's really what it comes down to.

If you can spend the money, I would suggest going 1440p. Your 1070 will handle that well.

Then you can decide if you want to go 1440p @ 144hz or if you need to settle for a 1440p @ 60hz. You'll find that 1440p's @ 144hz will run you $500+.

In a perfect world, you would get 1440p @ 144hz w/ G-Sync. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a 1440p @ 60hz w/ G-sync, as the g-sync monitors I've seen are offered in the high price monitors that are typically 144hz....

This ASUS 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor is a beast - I got this on sale for $500 on Black Friday.

This ASUS 1440p 60hz monitor is cheaper

p.s. (edit) - you spent good money on a GTX 1070. Now, get the most out of it and step into the world of 1440p.

u/Parmon · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I've had this monitor for a couple weeks and I love it. I had been wanting to move up from 1080p for a while and had been waiting on this since January. Mine has no dead pixels and looks great.

Right now the main problem is availability. I ordered mine from Amazon when they first got them instock and now they have only a secondary seller listed who wants $100 more. screw that. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MSOND8C/

u/RedMage928 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Planning to get this with the GTX 1070. Opinion? Between 144 Hz 1440p and G-Sync, it's pretty expensive so I'd hate to add IPS.

u/camomatt · 2 pointsr/BuildAPCSalesMeta

It almost always comes down to budget. Your system warrants just about any monitor setup, it's just how much you want to spend. That said, this is a fantastic option. It's 144hz, 1440p, 27".

The monitor I have is the one you linked, the VG248QE. It's a great monitor, but if I was more willing to shell out the cash, I'd grab the ROG Swift. As far as colors go, it doesn't feel vibrant, but that's not a big issue to me. It still looks great and I'm happy with the purchase.

u/Samurai_TwoSeven · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

This is the cheapest 2k monitor I could find, but it has 60Hz

You aren't going to get 2k 144Hz cheaply, but this one is fairly affordable.

If you want G-Sync over Free-Sync, then this one should suit your fancy

u/killborn475 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Looks pretty good, and the rgb ram is pretty sweet. If you don't mind spending the money then I would say all is good here but imo your motherboard is crazy expensive. I know you are trying to future proof but as long as you have a board with ddr4 slots and pcie that's all you need. When it comes to cpus chances are the slot type is going to change and you're going to have to buy a new board anyways. This being said this build will last you easily 5+ years.

Might I make a suggestion for a better monitor at a lower price?

Forewarning, i'm in the market for a RoG Swift myself, so I am slightly biased in my opinion.

The highest i've seen lately(past month) has been from a really trusted trader on this subreddit, his was going for 740, not sure if he's sold it or not yet though.

The lowest i've seen was $650 (No backlight bleed / dead pixels), but most average out for around $700 shipped.

You can get a used one from Amazon for $713, generally prices on /r/hardwareswap are cheaper than most other places, so keep that in mind.

Sale is on amazon.com: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MSOND8C/ref=sxts1

I kinda wanted the same thing for my ps4 as well, but the ps4 I b have can't do 1440p so there's no added bonus. I don't know which one you have or if all ps4 can't go 2k. (I think I heard tell of one on some gameplay trailer called a neo) but your best bet is to just use the ps4 with a 1080p monitor/tv.

That's what I'm hoping for at least for myself. I finally pulled the trigger on the pg278q from amazon for that price. It's the lowest I've seen it.

u/StareIntoTheVoid · 1 pointr/buildapc

Here's the one I have. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00MSOND8C/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1449607114&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=PG279Q&dpPl=1&dpID=41Ms95qjr-L&ref=plSrch

Really comes down to what you want to spend in the end. I need at least 120hz as I sometimes take advantage of Nvidia 3D view. I couldn't find the ips version of this monitor on amazon, though I did just a quick search. Personally I couldn't be happier with this monitor.

u/Toratherogue · 1 pointr/buildapc

I just bought this monitor: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MSOND8C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I had been using a 1920x1080 before this with a gtx 970, and I was struggling to maintain 50-60 fps on max settings on Black Desert Online, same w/ Witcher 3 and a HEAVILY modded skryrim (I have 3 monitors, will continue to have 3 after the new arrives, giving the extra to my roomy)

What graphics card should I upgrade to? I'm not sure if I should wait and see if a better one is coming out soon (BDO won't be playable until later in Q1 2016 anyway) or go ahead and get some variant of the 980 ti or a Titan (keep hearing its not necessary to get that much vram?)

Any help would be appreciated so I could get those 2 games to run smoothly on my higher resolution, and mod my skyrim some more lmao.

I think this answers at least part of that question.

u/taylortob · 1 pointr/buildapc

The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q is probably the ideal monitor for you. It's expensive for a new monitor, but if you buy a used one, it would cost around $500-600.

The only downside to this monitor is that it's a TN panel.

Next best thing would be the Acer XB270HU bprz. It's an IPS panel, 1440p, 144Hz, and G-Sync. More expensive, so might want to look into a used monitor.

u/SmokeySFW · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

It's this model. The very first 1440p GSYNC monitor ever sold, I believe.

u/Caanon565 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Literally the only issue is small spot that is slightly brighter that I can only really see on white backgrounds like googles homepage. It is barely noticeable and is probably from the thing that spreads light being too tightly mounted or something.

I have zero dead pixels or other issues, and thing was above was so minor and didn't want to risk an exchange and end up with something worse.

u/Strongbad536 · 1 pointr/buildapc

okay so i've got a question, is the difference between 144 and 120Hz super noticeable? i feel i'd be able to tell between 60 and 144 with no problem due to the responsiveness i'd feel, but i've been eyeballing this one because it's 1440, IPS and >60Hz. so i'd want to know if that would be good, or if i'd need to shell out for the [ROG](http://www.amazon.com/PG278Q-27-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit- Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C) that is 1440 and 144Hz (not even sure about IPS at that point).

There is a 300 dollar or so one that some times goes on sale at Best Buy or Amazon. Best Buy Amazon There is also a 24inch version on Amazon apparently. It took me having 2x980s at the time to run games decent at 4k, even some of those I couldn't max. I ended up with this instead when it died. It looks a lot better than the 4k, obviously more expensive, but I love the thing.

Wooo....At that budget, you could afford this-

ASUS ROG 27" 144hz, 1440p, G-sync monitor. $775 and is arguably one of the best gaming monitors you can get, if your hardware can power 1440p. I have no idea how all that works in the case of a console. Might be able to skip the G-sync, which makes that monitor expensive, and just go for the best 144hz monitor you can find.

In case anyone is interested, there are only two monitors TB could possibly be talking about: The Asus ROG Swift PG278Q or the Acer XB270HU. The Acer is the marginally better of the two.

u/Panayotes · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

The ROG Swift would be the best monitor for this build imo, but it's kinda pricey.

u/montevonzock · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm thinking about getting an Asus ROG Swift PG278Q it's a bit cheaper than the PG279Q and has better reaction time (1ms>4ms). The price difference ist about 200$. But if you have to decide between the two features, it depends what you do with your PC. In short 1440p -> sharp edges/crisp image, 144hz -> more fluidity in motion, both -> orgasm.

u/coolfire1080P · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

u/gclaudiu · 1 pointr/oculus

Link to the 4k 144hz monitor please? Was looking for these a while back and couldn't find anything.

The only thing that comes close is http://www.amazon.com/Asus-PG278Q-27-Inch-G-SYNC-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C but that's not really 4k, I would expect 3840 x 2160 rather than 2560 x 1440.

u/nmcotton · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

If you're looking into the smoothest gaming experience possible, I would suggest considering a 144hz display. You can find some 1440p 144hz monitors on Amazon for ~$100 more than the one suggested, but they aren't IPS monitors so they don't have as accurate color reproduction. There are 1440p 144hz IPS monitors like this Acer, but that's going to cost considerably more. I'm maxing most AAA games of the last year on my 1070 at 1080p and getting well over 144fps, and it can get above 60 on almost all of them at 1440p on high-max. Just a debate between your budget and whether you prefer image quality or smoothness in games.

I slightly altered his build, I felt I made it slightly more entry-friendly. I'll go through it one by one.

CPU - 6600k vs 6500. The main difference is the clocks. The 6500 is 300mhz slower than the 6600k. The other difference is that the 6600k is overclockable unlike the 6500. Overclocking is reasonably simple, but it's not for everybody. There is a risk (not very high, but it's there) to damage your CPU. I set you with a non-overclockable CPU first so that you can get the hang of building a computer first.

CPU Cooler - The overclockable CPUs from Intel don't come with a cooler, so for his build he needed to get a cooler. The non-OCable come with the regular stock cooler, which is (arguably) easier to install.

Motherboard (MOBO) - I kept the same motherboard, so that if you feel the need to upgrade your CPU to an overclockable model, you can just sell the 6500 and buy the 6600k/6700k + cooler.

RAM - I just got cheaper RAM, there's not going to be a huge impact on performance.

Storage - Our builds both have a 1TB hard drive, but I added in an SSD (solid state drive) to put your operating system and programs on. The main advantage of SSDs are speed, when used as the main system drive, it makes the system much more responsive. The main disadvantage of SSDs (as a rule of thumb) is that they do not handle writes very well. This means you'll mostly want to refrain from moving files back and forth. They aren't super fragile, but always exercise the "better-safe-than-sorry" principle (it'll save your ass more than a few times).

Video Card/GPU - I added a filter (I'm not very good at them :P) on this one. My main goal was to let you pick the performance that you'd want/need. The sweet spot for GPUs is the $150-$300 usually, but since AMD doesn't have a performance competitor for NV (Nvidia) past the 1060/$250, the 1070 is the next step up at about ~$400 (just over budget, but if you get some of these parts during sales you'll be able to fit it in your ~$1000 budget) I kept the VRAM (Video-RAM) capacity locked at 6GB/8GB, as I think Star Citizen would like to use all it can get :) Plus it'll increase the longevity of your card if you decide to keep it for a while.

* Add-On Here's some game benchmarks for the 480 4GB/8GB vs 1060 3GB/6GB. The 3gb 1060 is close enough to the 470 that you can consider them equal. Unlike the 480, the lower VRAM or capacity 1060 actually has a lower amount of cores, resulting in lower performance. There also is a factor I find a lot of people forget in the AMD vs NV debate; if you're planning on buying or upgrading to an adaptive-sync monitor, those that support AMD's version (Freesync) are on average, cheaper than their same specced NV (G-Sync) counterparts. See MG278Q@ $485 vs PG278Q@ $715 or the G2460PF @ (what should be) $200 G2460PG @ (what should be) $379

Case - I personally prefer the P400 over the S340 as it's the case I'm using at the moment, but both are wonderful cases and I'd suggest you look around to find the right case for you, they're highly subjective :)

* Add-On A great place to go looking at these cases would be the Hardware Canucks channel, they even just released a "Top Cases of 2016" video.

Power Supply (PSU) I just got a higher wattage PSU from the same line, they're good power supplies and should last you for a good few builds. More wattage was mainly for the "better-safe-than-sorry" principle.

Operating System (OS) Just added Win10 into the cost. If you're a dual-credit/college student, you're probably able to sign up for Microsoft Imagine/Dreamspark which gives you a few free Windows products, including Win10.

There are some really great channels out there that put out wonderful content, I'll list a few of my favorites here.

Paul's Hardware.

Techquickie.

Hardware Unboxed .

He's a smaller channel, but I like MindBlank Tech.

Now then, on to the monitors. I'd go with a 2560x1440 144Hz monitor (known as 2k), a 3840x2160 monitor at 60Hz (known as 4k), or a set of three 1080p monitors.
It comes down to preference. The 1080p triple setup gives you more immersion, the 1440p will have clearer image quality, more frames a second and makes movement panning and motion blur more realistic, wile the 4k monitor gives you the best high quality graphics.

And when it comes down to it...its just going to be really hard to get 144fps to match the 144hz on a 1440p monitor. Even 120fps+ on a lot of games. Plus it just feels kind of hard to justify in my mind a $750 price tag. More over if you want two of them. And I'm kind of a fan of dual monitors.

My two cents

The other thing to think about is if you're not going to get 144fps on 144hz or 60fps on a 60hz monitor. You should probably think about what GPU you should be rocking. Since its the biggest $$$ in your build usually. You want to avoid any bottle necks and not over pay for what you're not going to end up using.

i.e. Getting a GTX1080TI and having a 1080 60hz monitor is a little silly.

I would suggest the Asus VG248QE its the monitor I use, its 1080p 144hz. For a 1440p monitor (which your current build is probably better suited for) I'd suggest the Asus PG278Q If you just want the 1080p monitor, a single gpu is more than enough. I use a 1070 and still get 144hz ultra with every game (BF1, JC3, B:AK, etc.)

Really? My Amazon comes up with a sale for $750 (£580) and this Ebay listing is about £234. https://www.amazon.com/SWIFT-PG278Q-27-inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C

I've been tracking them too. What scares me is yesterday Newegg opened up preorders, but it was right as class started for me. By the time class was finished it said out of stock again, so I'm hoping they didn't sell out already.

Here's the Amazon link, but it says shipping in 3-5 weeks right now.

Looks great. Don't need the speakers, though. Is there an option without? Maybe this one?

look at the Asus ROG swift monitor. Best gaming monitor out right now.

  • not 4k, but 2560x1440.
  • 144hz / G-sync
  • low response time,
  • low input lag,
  • other extras that are less important
u/shaolin_1993 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Have you had any experience with this monitor ? it looks like a pretty attractive option as well. I could tweak the rest of the build to accommodate it.

Except monitors don't lose anywhere near as much value over time.

This is the monitor I bought 2 years ago for $800
http://www.amazon.com/Asus-PG278Q-27-Inch-G-SYNC-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C

It's only $134 cheaper now.

u/irisflame · 1 pointr/EmeraldPS2

I mean, this is literally the only monitor I've ever used but the Asus has given me no problems. I guess I wouldn't know the differences unless I sperged out and spent nearly $700 on a ROG monitor but it's a pretty fucking awesome piece of equipment.

u/levidurham · 1 pointr/computers

For that budget, go all in on a really nice monitor. E.g https://www.amazon.com/27-inch-Monitor-PG278Q-Response-Display/dp/B00MSOND8C

u/narrill · 1 pointr/Overwatch

So I did some googling. 1440p isn't 21:9, it's 16:9, and there are both 1440p 144hz monitors and 21:9 144hz monitors. So yes, it is possible.

"Basically to just crush game settings at 1080p with good frame performance "

.... 1080p .... $3000 build.... 1 0 8 0 p .... $ 3 0 0 0 !@!!!

My only advice is get something like a 34 inch ultra wide monitor A big monitor is better for gaming, productivity, and movie watching. I'm not sure if they make monitors yet that are both 4k and 144hz. A 2560x1080 might be a good middle ground here is a 100hz 1440p monitor

You said $3000 was only for the computer but you could easily spend around $2000 and still have enough horsepower to drive a high res monitor.

Yep in that case it all comes down to budget. You could either go with something like the ROG Swift, Acer Predator, though these would lock you into Nvidia cards with G-sync. There are other brands options available, those are just the two top end monitors.

And this is the face to the beast. ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q 27-Inch 2560 x 1440 Display 144Hz Refresh Rate WQHD G-SYNC Monitor

If you kept the rest of your build around $1350 (as I proposed), you'd be able to budget a used x34 Predator:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B016GNX4SE/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1474951762&sr=8-1&keywords=x34+predator&condition=used

If a curved monitor is not to your liking (or the cost is too damn high, even used), then the best gaming option right now is

https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B017EVR2VM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1474952181&sr=1-1&keywords=pg279q

And 3rd would be (save a $100 from the PG279q):

https://www.amazon.com/PG278Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1474952181&sr=1-2&keywords=pg279q

Note that IPS panel technology of the PG279q is considered to be far better than the TN panel technology of the PG278q.

What about the ROG Swift? I've had this monitor since it came out and it's awesome. It's $700 right now on Amazon.

The first 3 listings are Amazon Warehouse. A further discount is applied with Warehouse items at checkout, so I can see 450 on the one that has the potential to have scratches on the screen.

u/surf_kitsune · -1 pointsr/nvidia

cheapest I found on amazon was a $500 BenQ, but apparently the color quality is pure shit compared to ASUS' monitor(s) (this one)

u/unc40pilot · -1 pointsr/buildapc

My exact build but I had to return that monitor. If you can swing alittle bit more this monitor is flawless

Id love to get the Asus ROG Swift

http://www.amazon.com/PG278Q-27-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C

costs a lot though
