It has a bad CPU and a french keyboard in a beautiful body :) The world has moved on from a slow dual core 2.4ghz CPU in a 1000 dollar laptop. Was pretty excited until I realized it was the old one. Why not get any other good quad core laptop?

All the new Intel Coffee Lake normal quad core laptops are launching in the next 2 weeks. That's why you see a sale.

Look at this quad core full power laptop with GTX 1050 for $1099:
http://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/cty/pdp/spd/g-series-15-3579-laptop/ni153579_bt_s421e

My brother is a programmer and they gave him HP's top of the line $2000 ULV laptop when he started working for the company. Slow....

EDIT: Canadian prices for laptops can be pretty bad. Amazon U.S. for $699 USD:

You just need something with a dedicated graphics card. As long as you have that, pretty much anything will do.

This one looks alright for the price: https://www.amazon.com/8th-Gen-i5-8300H-GeForce-FireCuda-Windows/dp/B07BP9QG2J/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1549889614&sr=8-7&keywords=gaming+laptop

I run Fusion 360 very well on an Asus TUF gaming laptop with Nvidia GTX1050 dedicated graphics card.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BP9QG2J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_62EvCbNWA7DPY

I’ve used Fusion 360 on a machine without a dedicated graphics card, just integrated into motherboard, and it was slow and frustrating.

I researched laptops for months, and it looked like the bottom end for modern dedicated graphics cards for laptops is the GTX1050, and laptops which have that start at $600 and go up from there.

There’s probably even better but I didn’t want to spend more than necessary and so far I’m happy with the purchase.

Just quick checked and found this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BP9QG2J/ref=twister_B07J5WTT3K?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

way better than every macbook could ever be.

If you looked for a MacBook, I guess you don't care about a decent graphic card; in this case, I would suggest this

https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-Portable-i5-8250U-processor-S510UA-DS51/dp/B077XFNXX1/ref=sr_1_8/140-1630609-2598048?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1540531182&sr=1-8&refinements=p_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289793011&th=1

or its cheaper version, with 256GB SSD and i5...but it's still very good!

EDIT: I always recommend to avoid used laptops: they usually have serious battery issues (thst may bring to some other); they may have run up to overheat a lot (yeah, MacBooks overheat a lot when you run Ps, etc); monitor may be stressed, so connections or the screen itself may be damaged in a way you can't find until it breaks all at a sudden.

u/Greshloc · 3 pointsr/Gamingcirclejerk

Target doesn't really sell laptops on the higher end, you'd only be able to get like a $300-400 HP office laptop that's not very good for gaming. Amazon and Best Buy would be your best bet.

Personally I can vouch for Asus laptops. Before I built a pc I used a Republic of Gamers brand Asus laptop that ran WoW and Skyrim great.

You could get something like this https://www.amazon.com/8th-Gen-i5-8300H-processor-GeForce-FireCuda/dp/B07BP9QG2J/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1526435583&sr=1-6&keywords=asus+gaming+laptop

Or something slightly more powerful and expensive and with an SSD like this

https://www.amazon.com/FX503VD-Powerful-i7-7700HQ-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B076H2J8ZV/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1526435583&sr=1-5&keywords=asus+gaming+laptop

The 1050 is a pretty good budget card and probably will do fine with WoW. Plus you can still get windows 10 and whatever you need on it.

Probably should look around more for better reviewed ones or one with a bigger screen if you want it, but something similar to those 2 would be fine.

[Amazon](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BP9QG2J/ref=s9_acsd_simh_hd_bw_b2N0e_c_x_2_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-4&pf_rd_r=WJBA3FZ120146NKFZ8FF&pf_rd_r=WJBA3FZ120146NKFZ8FF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=02114479-a44c-5a29-b837-44c7cf09692f&pf_rd_p=02114479-a44c-5a29-b837-44c7cf09692f&pf_rd_i=565108)

I found this one off the bat. Its barely under your budget, but this is a good starting point in your search. So Im about to throw a bunch of words at you so get ready.

  • Processor: 8th generation, Intel i5. It has 4 cores and can turbo boost up to 3.9 ghz. What you want to look for here when it comes to Processors is, Minimum 4 cores, and Minimum speed 2.5 ghz. This one is at 2.3 ghz, but the Intel brand makes them so they speed up if when heavily loaded, in this case up to 3.9 ghz.
  • RAM: This one has 8gb. Ideally you want 16gb. with all our programs moving to cloud base, when your husband (if he isn't already) jumps on Adobe CC they will take a toll on RAM. with each passing year programs and apps are getting heavier and heavier. If your husband designs like most people I know, Hell have 6-10 programs and apps opened at a time. The more ram the better the processor is able to go through the information.
  • SSHD(solid state hybrid drive): The PC industry is moving towards an all flash storage (SSD, Solid state drive) or to all cloud and away from HDD (Hard Disk Drives). SSD is what you want, but it is a pricey commodity still. so to counter the price points some companies made hybrid drives, of HDD and SDD. This one has 1Tb (Terabyte) of Drive space which is a great amount to start.
  • Graphics Card or GPU: This one has what is considered a lower end GPU, but for the programs we run, It'll do just fine. Our work really benefits from GPU's when it comes to exporting videos and high definition display while working. Our Adobe programs also benefit from using Nvidia graphic cards because of what they call CUDA. These are tiny brains on the GPU that processes well the graphics. The latest Nvidia line go from GTX 1050, 1060, 1070, 1080. with prices to match range.

I didn't take much of a look around besides amazon, but if you want to take some information to your local PC guy, tell him that you are looking for something with the following specs.

Either an i5 or i7 processor, 2.5ghz or greater. You want minimum 4 cores, but no more than 6 (because of price). 16 gb of RAM. Minimum 256gb SSD (ideal setup is 256gb ssd and 1tb HDD. You put the programs on the SSD and save files on the HDD). And a GTX 1050 or GTX 1060 Graphic card.

Other than that happy shopping, and your husband will love what you get him.
u/THROWMEASTONER · 2 pointsr/classicwow

You want at least a GeForce GTX 750 Ti graphics card or comparable. And a Intel Core i5-3330 3.0GHz processor or comparable. The better you get the better the experience.

Don’t know what your budget is but this: https://www.amazon.com/8th-Gen-i5-8300H-GeForce-FireCuda-Windows/dp/B07BP9QG2J is what I would recommend.

u/elvinelmo · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

A good alternative would be the ASUS TUF Thin & Light Gaming Laptop PC (FX504)

· 15.6” Full HD,

· 8th-Gen Intel Core i5-8300H (up to 3.9GHz),

· GeForce GTX 1050 2GB,

· 8GB DDR4 2666 MHz,

· 1TB FireCuda SSHD

It has a decent GPU for the price and a 8th gen i5 processor which is great for CAD, editing and other CPU intensive work

u/BadBoyBucky · 2 pointsr/farmingsimulator

I've got an Asus FX504 https://www.amazon.com/8th-Gen-i5-8300H-GeForce-FireCuda-Windows/dp/B07BP9QG2J,

and it does the job spectacularly. It's 200 more on Amazon, but you might be able to find it cheaper / stretch the budget.

Good luck with your purchase!

u/r_person · 2 pointsr/techsupport

No problem, This is a decent mid-range option, it has 8gb of ram, core i5 8300, and a 2 Gb gtx1050 which should handle most games at medium settings.

While this laptop would serve you well, My advice would be to hold out a few weeks and maybe you will be lucky enough to pick up something of a higher spec for the same money on Black Friday.

Edit; it’s worth noting that this laptop above does not have an SSD it has an SSHD which is a hybrid between and SSD and a HDD not quite as fast as an SSD but faster than a HDD

How about Asus Tuf Gaming Laptop

Only 699 USD

u/realducksquack · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

When it comes to gaming, most of the time the graphics card is the bottleneck. So I will choose a better graphics card over a i7. You might want to consider taking a look at the -> ASUS TUF FX504. It packs the latest 8th-Gen Intel Core i5-8300H, a good GeForce GTX 1050 (2GB), 15.6” Full HD display, 8GB RAM, 1TB FireCuda SSHD and preinstalled with Windows 10. Best if you can try it at your local stores and see if it works for you. Good luck!

u/Gibber117 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop has a GTX 1050 and it’s $699. But your spending $100 more than the Acer Aspire that only has a MX150.

I know this isn't about building a pc (I've done that, happy with my rig), but this is more about if this laptop would be a good, cheap mobile purchase. I'm doing a lot of travelling right now and my old laptop is hardly functional. All I really want is something that can chug along Destiny 2 and FFXIV at a solid 30 fps.

Asus TUF is 15.6" so we cannot compare it, its weight 5.1 lbs, Acer Swift 3 about 3.5 lbs, so I dont know what we are talking about specifications or portability, Asus TUF GTX 1050 whats better for gaming of course, but in this price range for gaming, I would choose this version of Acer Nitro 5

It has:

  • 15.6" FHD IPS VR Ready,
  • Intel Quad-Core i5-8300H,
  • 4GB NVidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • USB Type-C
  • Win 10

You should consider buying one of the new gaming laptops with the hexa core processor.

This has a GTX 1050, 8gb RAM, a 256gb SSD and an Intel core i5 8300H (which is better than the previous gen i7 7700HQ).
