And if you prefer amazon.

And a link to the rebate form.

u/Emrak · 8 pointsr/Planetside

My build, for comparison purposes:

i5-4670k (OC'd to 4.0), 8 GB RAM (1600 mhz), GeForce GTX 780 3GB, and PS2 has it's own dedicated SSD. Last,

but not least, my monitors are two Asus VS247H-P as seen here http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BZNDS0

Side Note: I used to run an RadeonHD card and ironically, dollar for dollar, got waaaay better performance

(for the price) than I do for my current nvidia. There are definitely diminishing returns IRT higher end video

cards.

Summary: I can run everything at its highest setting and achieve roughly 40-60 FPS in 24-48 battles. In

96+ battles, my FPS is roughly 25-50. I choose not to run everything at its highest setting for performance

reasons.

My actual, current settings: http://i.imgur.com/tNbbZ92.png

1) Determine what is most important for you: the gameplay or the graphics. You will find that many high-

skill players with beast rigs run PS2 at very low settings because--for them--the game is the thing. The

graphics are secondary. Some would make the game look like MineCraft if it helped.

2) Understand that what we call FPS is integrally tied to your monitor. The vast majority of current

monitors (such as mine) have vertical refreshes of 60hz. This means that the absolute most frames per second

my monitor can display is 60. Even if I get 200 FPS, my monitor will only show 60. Side Note: my monitor is

actually only capable of displaying about 56'ish FPS, because the monitor response time is 2ms. Response time

is how fast it takes your monitor to actually process the frames it receives. To achieve actual 60 FPS, my

monitor would need a "real time" response time.

3) Understand that your FPS in PS2 is a ping-pong game between your CPU and your GPU. By using CTRL-F10 in

game you can toggle on your FPS counter in the lower left corner.

Note in this pic at the warpgate: http://i.imgur.com/AKhw9l0.png it shows a "GPU" next to my FPS. This means that my FPS is hitting the limits of the video card (my CPU isn't holding back the FPS).

However, in this pic, in a 1-12 contested battle: http://i.imgur.com/ePp7DmM.png you'll see it shows my CPU as being the limiting factor. Having a beefier video card would be irrelevant. This is because out on the battlefield, my CPU has so much work to do processing bullets flying, damage taken, motion detector pings, etc.

Optimizing For Me: How I arrived at my current settings was due to my consideration that gameplay was king (goodbye flora!). Knowing that my monitor was capable of only displaying roughly 60 FPS, I aimed to kick my settings as high as possible, yet low enough that I can get 55+ FPS in even the most massive engagements. Hence my current settings.

Optimizing For You: Take 20 mins and experiment with all the settings and see what you can get. Assuming gameplay is king for you, set your Overall Quality to Very Low and Render Distance to 600. Using Fullscreen (as opposed to Fullscreen Windowed) seems to give some folks an 5-10 FPS boost when using a single monitor. It does nothing for me personally, but it can't hurt to try. Then, after you are in-game, bring up Windows Task Manager, go to Details/Processes and find your Planetside...exe process. Right-click and set priority to HIGH. See what FPS you get at WG and what FPS you get in massive battles at different bases (not all bases are created equal IRT FPS). If you get greatly in excess of 60 FPS, then consider increasing different graphics options (because your monitor won't be using those extra FPS anyways).

Things that produce the greatest FPS gain:

Turning shadows off.
Render Quality (huge FPS boost).
Render Distance.
Using Fullscreen mode and changing your display resolution.
Graphics Quality toggle (huge FPS boost).
Turning Fog Shadows and Ambient Occlusion off.

Things that seem to do almost nothing in of themselves:

Lighting Quality (always set to low).
Model Quality (always set to low).

You're absolutely fine with 8GB of RAM, and will be for quite some time. Don't need a CPU cooler because that processor isn't overclockable. Look to /u/tcmvl 's comment for some good improvements. If you want to avoid the mail in rebate on that monitor, I highly suggest the monitor I got recently. It's on sale and I love it.

I really love the color of this monitor. Of course there's a games mode that washes it out with brightness and cuts down the input delay. It's versatile, cheap, and fast. Hands down the best.

To be honest, in my personal opinion, no. I myself like the 23" monitors. I find that they are the best size for my taste.

This is the one I currently own.

Edit: This is a TN panel not the IPS as previously stated.

u/saintsfan1622000 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'm not an expert on monitors and refresh rates. I have this monitor:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BZNDS0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

1440p is much more expensive than 1080p still. I think you're better off with two 1080p panels for the time.

u/Cpsgames · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I have a couple Asus monitors and have never had issues with them. Must have just got a bad pick. That sucks. :(

u/bearadox · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This 1080p/60Hz monitor is $90 after rebate, and I bet you could find a few others below $150. It really depends on how good of a monitor you want (this is the one I have; it's reliable but nothing fantastic).

Honestly this is a pretty budget tight build for all-new but reliable components. You might look at used hardware on /r/hardwareswap to see if you can get a better deal.

u/Anrikay · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Sorry, just edited the album to include them. Both of them are 1920x1080 TN panels.

Center monitor: Asus VG248QE 24" 144Hz monitor. I bought this monitor because it's 144Hz, 3D-vision ready, and Asus so it would match my other monitors. I give it an 8/10.

Pros: I got it at $220, eye strain is significantly reduced due to the 144Hz refresh rate, I can finally watch my 3D movies, and the backplate is at the same height as the other monitors so monitor stands work.

Cons: my only real con is the color reproduction. When in 2D, colors can be a bit washed out and there's only so far calibration can take you. In 3D, on the other hand, it looks fantastic so I accept the trade-off.

Peripheral Monitors: Asus VS247H-P 23.6" 60Hz monitor. These monitors are used for nVidia Surround and extra documents. For example, I'll do |Spotify & browser|works cited & research paper|browser & browser|. Since I mainly do work on the center, I didn't need 120/144Hz. This gets a 9/10.

Pros: response time is suitable for gaming. Color reproduction is some of the best I've seen in a TN panel. I bought the two monitors three years apart and noticed zero color degradation. At $150, the price/performance ratio is almost unreal.

Cons: The included stand is garbage, very few ways to adjust it. If you want more than one monitor, I'd recommend just getting a monitor stand. But this being my only complaint should tell you how good I think it is.

TL;DR: I love all of my monitors. I would recommend the VS247H-P to anyone. The VG248QE isn't for everyone, so I recommend that only if you want 3D. There are better looking 144Hz monitors without 3D.

u/aceman1011 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Would you recommend it over this: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VS247H-P-24-Inch-Full-HD-LED-Lit/dp/B005BZNDS0/ref=pd_cp_pc_3
? It has 1 ms less response time for G2G, but otherwise they seem pretty similar. The Asus has a MIR and some bleeding from the backlight, but is it worth paying the extra cash? Thanks!

u/Yayme74 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I just received the monitor yesterday, it looks sweet. Amazon has a 20 dollar rebate with it and with amazon prime (free trial), you can get it in 2 days and free shipping.

EDIT: Just realize you are from Norway, shipping might cost more then, sorry.

u/vladsinger · 2 pointsr/Monitors

How about the Asus VS248H-P? Currently only $170 after a $20 rebate with Amazon prime. Not IPS unfortunately (not sure why amazon has the standard IPS disclaimer on it), but HDMI in, 1080p, relatively fast response time.

Some tweaking with settings (esp. by lowering "Trace Free" to 80/100) may be necessary out of the box to eliminate slight ghosting apparently, but generally reviewed positively by buyers. Actually you could go with the previous VS247H-P model is and that's ~$30 cheaper and supposedly 0.4" smaller diagonally.

If you wanted IPS you could drop an inch and go with the VS239H-P at $170. The Dell U2312HM is $205 at the moment, probably significantly better overall and picture quality and still very usable for gaming unless you play a lot of competitive high speed FPSs like Counterstrike.

u/1ibertyordeath · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Ok, here's what I would do. Throw out the AMD chipset and the video card, and move to intel fourth gen processors. I would go with an i5-4670 because of the Intel HD 4600 Graphics as well as it being faster than the AMD processor. With that intel chip, you won't need a video card or a cooler.

I would move your SSD up to a Samsung 120GB SSD that will be better than the one you have listed and it will be only a little more expensive, normally around 90 dollars.

Case looks fine, but I'm not big into cases so I'm not sure.

Obviously you will have to change your mobo when moving to the intel chip, or at least I think you would have to, so you will have to change that.

You could definitely go cheaper on the keyboard, look logitech on that, unless you really want that keyboard.

I would also get this monitor. As I personally think I'm more productive with a 24 inch, but that's your choice.

u/Alecdevon7 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

If you want a cheap monitor, I highly recommend the Asus VS247HR. It costs 130$, its 23 inches @ 1080p. It has 2ms response time and decent color (altough you might want to tweak it a little). I have two and am very happy with both since I got them (about 3ish years ago).

u/qawsican · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Hello r/buildapc. I have a quick question about some monitors I recently bought and my framerates. Couple of days ago I bought two Asus VS247H-P to replace my old monitors which were a 1920x1080 main monitor and 1024x720 second monitor. After I hooked up my new monitors, I loaded up Dota 2 and tried to play some games but noticed a significant decrease in FPS, which led me to turning off V-Sync, and it brought my FPS back to 65 (I have it set at 65 in the console). However, I still notice a slight "lag?" or something, it just doesn't feel "smooth" as my previous monitor setup and I'm not sure if it is because my GPU is now running two 1920x1080 monitors at the same time or because my eyes aren't adjusted to the new monitors maybe? I plan on purchasing the EVGA GTX 750 Ti SuperClocked FTW Edition when it becomes available, and saw that it comes with a Display Port for G-Sync. Would using G-Sync with these monitors help with the slight fps lag I am experiencing right now? Could it be an issue with my CPU? Will my new monitors support work with G-Sync if I get an HDMI to Display Port cable? Thanks.

Current GPU: EVGA GTX 570 SuperClocked

Current CPU: Core i7-920 @ 2.66 ghz

u/helloimcallum · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This for your money, but if you can get an extra $30 then I would go with this.

u/Ageless3 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This looks like a better deal. Connect with what is available, I wouldn't bother converting. Pic quality is the same for 1080.

u/gmv_87 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Also a noob, but I'll help as best I can:

  1. Try getting a screen that has little lag, about 2 ms response time.
    http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VS247H-P-24-Inch-Full-HD-LED-Lit/dp/B005BZNDS0/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370892196&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=moniton+24+inch

  2. Right off the bat. Install Windows 7 on a USB and boot the USB through your BIOS once ready. See sidebar for instruction.
  3. Should work right off the bat.
  4. Someone more experienced can help you there
u/NoxiTiZe · 2 pointsr/PS4

DemonicXfat, getting a monitor is good for hardcore gamers that enjoy shooters and really want an edge.

When looking at getting a monitor to game on, it is good to go for 24-32". And the best thing to get is something with a low response time. When buying a monitor for gaming most people look for one within the range of 1-5ms(GTG) response times and something that has the capability to be adjusted quite well(through settings). I personally like ASUS ones. Other ones that are recommended are BenQ( quite expensive though), Samsung, and Acer. I don't recommend getting a smaller tv as the response times will still be greater.

Please note: you haven't really given a price range but you shouldn't be spending anything over $250 for a good monitor(You can find reasonable deals on any of these monitor types above)

I'll link you to a few ones my friends and I have used:

u/jbags5 · 2 pointsr/FIFA

I personally prefer playing on my monitor compared to my 50" living room tv. It doesn't magically fix the fifa input delay/lag tho, but it might help a very slight bit. I just think it looks better and is easier to play on a nice 24" monitor

Edit: this isn't the exact one I got but it's similar and looks like it's on a flash sale today https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BZNDS0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_k8mhAbSQJZC70

u/acidafterglow · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Look this one up.

It's the one I'm using and it's great because it has an AUX output which takes the audio from the HDMI and lets you send it to an audio device with AUX input.

Spec-wise it's more than enough for the Switch.
It's also one of the few monitors at this price range which is VESA mountable if you want to hang up in a wall or a stand.

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VS247H-P-23-6-1920x1080-Monitor/dp/B005BZNDS0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511769467&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+monitor

Edit: regarding the speakers, you could also hook up some headphones to the monitor's AUX out in the meantime, while you get some speakers. Or considering your 150 budget, this one is 115 and you can get a cheap pair of computer speakers with decent sound from Amazon or Logitech for less than 20 bucks.

Edit 2: (lol) I just checked the 27" version and it says it already includes speakers. On top of that, it has 2 HDMI inputs and a Display Port input, as well as a dedicated audio input and also has the audio output. i say it's a really good deal for the price (145).

I just picked up a GTX 1070, my first time upgrading GPU since I built my machine (with a 460!). I currently use this monitor, but I was thinking of buying a new monitor in the next few months to really utilize the new GPU I have. Any suggestions? I will likely keep the old monitor and just use it as a secondary, but I feel like buying a second of the same might be a bad idea. I guess ideally I'd like to stay below $200, but hard cap at $300, and definitely 24" or larger.

u/huzzaboot · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I think the monitors are these, they're a couple years old, and still work well.

I think it was this one. Idk, it was a gift.

u/Ragefarm · 1 pointr/buildapc

Those displays look good. How do you think they compare to an ASUS like this model?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BZNDS0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

u/Readysethorrible · 1 pointr/buildapc

You paired a locked cpu with an overclockable motherboard. Why windows 7? Windows 8.1 allows games to perform better. A better case would be in order. As for a monitor, I just pruchased this and I'll let you know if I like it once it arrives (it got delayed sadly).

u/vr3690 · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I have the VS247H-P which works quite well for me.

Make sure you have the hardware to support a higher refresh rate though. I am guessing since you are looking at it you already have the hardware and would prefer a monitor with 144HZ.

u/GingersAteMySoul · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

It's a little bit over the budget, but this Asus monitor is fantastic. I only have one, but they would work great with three of them

I can add in the monitor from the image gallery for 50 bucks (the one I used to display the PC specs). It's a no-frills 23.6" Asus VS247H 1080p monitor. Let me know if you're interested in it or if you want more pictures of the monitor.

EDIT: Apparently one of my family members still uses the Asus monitor occasionally so unfortunately I can't sell it to you. However, I have a very old 1280x1024 Princeton monitor that I can give you as a complementary item if you want it. I'll have to double check its video ports tonight but it should have VGA and DVI.

I also have a Keyboard Paradise V80 TKL keyboard with Cherry MX Clears that I could sell to you - haven't decided on a price yet but it'll be in the 50-100 dollar range. Alternatively, I might have an OEM membrane keyboard at home that I can give to you for free; I'll double check later today.

Desk: IKEA Linnmon/Oddvald. Pretty solid desk for the price, although leg room is a bit lacking, probably upgrading soon.

Chair: DXRacer Formula Series, really helped my posture and got rid of my back pain. Plus I'm a huge gear-head so it's very much my style.

Keyboard: Das Keyboard Professional w/ Brown Switches. This keyboard is fantastic, it's a treat to use every day, feels buttery smooth to type on and build quality is superb. I also have a CM Quickfire Ultimate that I use at work, also browns.

Mouse: Zowie EC2-A. Replaced my old Logitech G400 when it started intermittently cutting out, I think I like this mouse even more.

Mousepad: SteelSeries QcK+ for all that low DPI goodness.

Headset: Kingston HyperX Cloud II. I love this headset, it's super comfortable and has good directional sound.

Speakers: Cyber Acoustics CA-3602 FFP. I use my headset mainly but these are good enough for when I need them.

Monitors: BenQ XL2411Z flanked by two ASUS VS247H-P mounted on an Ergotech Triple Monitor Stand. Finally got the monitor stand this year after using two boxes to hold up my side monitors for far too long. However, the BenQ is probably my favorite purchase out of all of these, would've bought three if it served any real benefit to me.

If you want to overclock (which I'm assuming you do because of your CPU cooler), get an i5 3570k.

I'd also switch the motherboard to a Biostar TZ77XE3 for about the same price, as it will OC a little bit better.

I'd get 2x8gb of ram so you still have two slots open.

You could get two 3TBs for a little less money. Here's one for $100 after MIR (limit one MIR though), then get a second one for $120.

I'd switch the monitor to maybe this 24in Asus or maybe an IPS monitor for about the same price.

Lastly, you can get the 650w Hive for $60, $50 after MIR. Will be better if you ever decide to crossfire in the future.

Hello there! I'm in the same boat as you, so I can't answer all your questions, and my answers may be lacking detail, but I'm deciding on a build pretty similar to yours so I'll try :D. Anyways:

  1. Modular seems to be the way to go due to easier cable management which increases air flow in your case, which is an overall plus.
  2. I'm also planning on getting the 770 GPU, but I don't see the relation between cheaper MOBO now and potential for SLI a few years later...? I'm assuming its not a money thing since you said a few years. However, you might need a better PSU as someone on IRC told me 850w for 2 770's. Just depends on how far down the road you're thinking about SLI.
  3. I was advised to get 2 4GB RAM for dual channel, so I switched to that.
  4. I've been looking at monitors, and you can get a ~24'' for about 16 dollars more. IMO it's worth it, but up to you:

Except you are forgetting that a lot of what you are listing are already common buys when it comes to NA and I would wager Europe. If you are going to factor them in for consoles you need to factor them in for PC as well since things like TV, internet and having a cell phone are common things to own (maybe not a smartphone but a basic one with calling and texting capabilities).

For the following I'm going to assume DICE's report on recommend system requirements is accurate

So our PC in question needs to have:

  • Quad core CPU with at least 3Ghz

  • Windows 7 64 bit or higher

  • 8 GB of RAM since it's 64 bit

  • A modern DX 11 graphics card with 2 or more GB of video memory

Now then we are also going to assume we are an average customer so we do not have the knowledge needed to put together a computer from individually purchased parts and since we work 5 days a week from 9-5 we don't really feel like figuring it out, we just want to buy something and have it work when we plug it in oh and it needs to be new for various reasons (warranty, not trusting of previous owner, etc). Our goal is to buy a PC that either matches or slightly exceeds DICE's recommended settings since we want our PC in question to be somewhat future proof for the next 5 years if we are going to be dropping a considerable amount of money on it. Now then our current PC is like 13 years old but has worked fine to meet our needs, we can get on the internet, do taxes on it, watch some videos and even play a few games on it.

So lets head on over to amazon put in some of those specs and start searching. Well damn the most popular one on that page is the HP pavilion Elite for $819. That's a bit steep let's see if we can get something more in our price range and sort by low to high. Well the first one in the list we can rule out because it's graphics card doesn't even support DX10. That second one in the list, the ASUS, looks pretty good and the GeForce GT 640 sounds like the perfect card to match our needs and should be awesome for playing new release for the next few years so let's go with that for roughly $745 (before tax if applicable).

So we order the ASUS and after a couple of days it arrives and we hook it up to our old monitor and sound system. About a week passes and we have just been having a blast playing BF4 but you know what hasn't been fun? Looking at that awful resolution on your monitor from 2000 and the way its speakers are just destroying the beautiful sound design done by the DICE team.

Back to Amazon we go! We decide that since our new PC can output in HD we want HD with a nice screen res of 1920x1080. This Asus monitor is only $164 and is highly rated so we go with it. It arrives in the mail, we hook it up and that picture is just awesome now and we can truly understand why PC gaming rocks.

To bad we forgot that it doesn't come with speakers built into the monitor. Well we could use this pair of earbuds that we got with our MP3 player we use at the gym but we feel we could really improve our value as a team member by getting a headset so we can communicate better with the rest of the team. You were talking with your PC gaming friend at the water cooler the next day about your dilemma and he tells you should just get a normal pair of headphones and a desk mic since it will probably be cheaper and of better quality and you decide that sounds pretty smart. So that night you order a pair of Sennheiser HD201 Lightweight Over-Ear Binaural Headphones and a logitech desk mic so our total for that comes out at around $36.

So let's go back over what this PC upgrade cost us in the long run

  • $745 for the ASUS tower

  • $164 for the monitor

  • $36 for the headphones and mic

    Total is roughly $945.

Keep in mind this is all paid at once, while a smartphone plan is likely to cost you more in the long run you are paying it in increments. A tablet/laptop is going to run you around $300 for an average quality one. The PS4 is launching at the price point of $400.

Yes you can probably recoup a lot of this in game sales from digital distribution platforms like Steam but if you are looking to buy on release it's still going to be on average the same price. Not to mention that consoles are now having similar sales on their digital stores and have things like Playstation Plus which actually get you sets of games for a reasonable monthly cost.

I'm not trying to say one is better than the other but I will make the argument that one is more affordable than the other. To say there is no difference in paywall to get into PC gaming and console gaming is nothing but ignorance.

Edit: I'm not saying you are wrong, I completely agree if people wanted to get into PC gaming they could stop spending money on things like new phones, TV's, tablets, etc every year and spend the money instead on a very nice gaming rig. But you need to stop thinking like a smart consumer more like an average one when making these kinds of arguments, because lets face it the average consumer is dumb or misinformed.

This monitor doesn't have built in speakers, but is a bit cheaper and bigger. Not IPS, but great viewing angles. I actually have one that is supposed to come in today. Top selling monitor on Amazon. If you don't need the webcam or built in speakers, then this wouldn't be a bad bet.

It's $157 ($170 if you're in one of the few states where Amazon charges tax) and there is a $20 mail-in rebate. I know this sub doesn't promote rebates really, but it's still just under your original cost w/o the rebate.

Here is the 22" version of that monitor which is a bit less.

u/goldenyoshi · 1 pointr/buildapc

Monitor Not sure what the difference is, but its a whole lot cheaper.

PSU Save you $20 and still enough to power your rig. Also modular.

RAM You don't want to pay the extra for $30 MIR to save a few bucks.

GPU Keep the boost or wait for a better sale on the 7870.

The RAM is fine then, as for SSD anything that's a MX300, SU800, and 850 EVO are the best.

You can probably spend 50-80 dollars on a two fan 1060 6G.

Any 1080p 60hz monitor is okay this ASUS is pretty standard.

1060 6G/RX480 8G/RX580 8G are probably your only option, although 480 and 580 are still out of stock or overpriced due to crypto-mining.

1080s and 1070s are way better cards, but you will also need to spend $400+ on a monitor that's worth while.

These are Asus VX247H-P 23.6" Full HD monitors, which run around $140 after rebate. They have inputs for VGA, DVI and HDMI, and VESA mount holes.

The mount is a modified Mount-It! desk mount for 6 monitors up to 21". I added about 11 inches to the 4 outside arms so that it will take the VS247's with sufficient clearance that I can tilt the top monitors in at about a 30 degree angle and still tilt them all down to face me. As you can see, that leaves gaps in the upper tier, which is where my speakers go.

My computer is an Asus G75VW, which has external video outpus for VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort. With a cheap VGA or HDMI adapter on the DisplayPort I can directly connect the bottom three monitors. I moved the OEM 900GB drive to the second drive bay and put a 256Gb SSD in the first. Still need to get the memory maxed out (running 8GB, which is cramped at times, but not yet so much that I've been motivated to buy more).

For the upper three monitors I added a 7 port USB 3 hub and three Plugable USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI/HDMI adapters for $40 each (there is a nicer model available now, which supports higher resolutions and speeds). Up to six of these will run on a system.

On the back I have RGB LED strip ($25) which provides nice mood lighting, and also illuminates the keyboard at night. Pardon the mess of cables. I recently rearranged the monitor cables and haven't tied everything back up neatly yet. I'll probably get that done sometime in the next year or two).

On top of the center monitor is a Logitech C920 webcam for about $70, which gives pretty decent stereo audio and video quality for calls via Google Voice and Skype. The sound quality is mostly limited by the all-hard-surfaces room I have for an office.

The USB adapters run surprisingly well. The frame rate will drop if I try to run a video at a large size, but at smaller sizes (1/6th-ish screen size) i can see no judder from lack of bandwidth. When I watch videos full screen I put them on one of the three lower monitors.

When I want to go mobile I have to unplug three monitor cables, and two USB cables (two 7 port hubs, the USB 3 hub for monitors and USB drives, and a USB 2 hub for bluetooth headset and fitbit adapter (evidently the high frequency of USB 3 tends to interfere with these low-power wireless dongles, they work much more reliably on USB 2). The speakers on the monitor stand are plugged into the back of the monitor that is connected via HDMI.

All together the monitor setup was about $1160.

I was looking back at your build for reference on the CPU (which I have now switched to in order to save ~150 dollars), and I noticed how expensive the monitor you're getting is. I just bought this one and could not recommend it highly enough. It has nothing but 4-5 star reviews and is the best monitor I've seen for the price at 24". Here's an amazon link. Just wanted to give my two cents and maybe even save you some 120 dollars :)

I really don't think you are going to get a good 120hz monitor for under $400. If you don't have the hardware to run new games at frame rates of a constant 120fps there isn't much reason to get it anyways. I think you would be better suited with a nice 60hz IPS 1080p monitor for the price range. That being said, I'll just go ahead and copy a comment of mine from another thread:

I'm in the market for a new Video Card. I've been using a 5770 for a few years now and have been saving up. Unfortunately, I don't have the biggest budget (diapers are expensive and my son is fond of pooping). As much as I'd love to go for a 770, I can't go more than $300. I'd prefer something in the $200 - $250 range, as I'm also in the market for a new monitor.

Here are the video card and monitor that I'm currently leaning towards:

XFX Double D FX-795A-TDFC Radeon HD 7950

Asus VS247H-P 24-Inch Full-HD LED-Lit Monitor

Are these good options? I know a lot of people strongly dislike XFX, but others praise them. The reviews on Newegg and Amazon seem favorable for the video card, but there are some negative ones in the mix. XFX seems to be responsive to those negative ones. And a lifetime warranty is extremely alluring (granted the lifetime warranty on my BFG PSU doesn't really amount for much nowadays).

Should I wait for the 760? I feel like the 7950 looks just as good and I can find those on sale in the $260 range, while the 760 will probably be a firm $300 - 320 for a bit.

Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

What's your price range for the GPU/mobo?

Here's the monitor, by the way: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BZNDS0/

It's a 1080p 23.6" monitor with a 2 ms response time, and the price is $158 ($138 with rebates).

(I reposted this since I had to remove the referral code from PCPartPicker)

Okay I did a quick little research and I found this monitor. I think the used goods of it is pretty cheap, but my next reaction was wow that is huge. Coming from someone that only ever uses laptops, are 20+ inch monitors actually standard for PC?

Also is there a subreddit where I can find people to help me build irl for maybe some payment and a lunch? lol

How big is your current monitor? How old is it?

Anything under 20" or over 2-years old is worthy of an upgrade. You can get a 23.6", 2 ms response for under $160:

Also, you could rock dual monitors.

What benefits are you looking for from a scuf? How many upgrades or accessories do you plan on buying?

Personally haven't used a scuf (so I'm definitely biased) but I'm comfortable playing tactical layout . Did a quick buy purchase of a plain black scuf controller with trigger stops and 2 paddles and it came out to be right around $150 with a warning for the trigger stops portion; "NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME (COMING APRIL)." Scuf's customer service sucks too, good luck seeing this controller within the next month.

I don't have much experience with monitors, but a quick search yields the Asus vs247h-p as a suitable choice. $157 from Amazon, 2ms response time, 23.6".

I know Halloween is over but if I was I monster, I would be called "Thankenstien". I have a Asus 1080p monitor that I think I successfully overclocked to 75Hz.

That sucks! I picked up a monitor a couple of months ago and I love it. It came highly recommended on here and /r/codcompetitive.

That's not what embedding means, it works fine but it looks like crap and takes up useless space on the page

to do something like this -> Asus 24" IPS LED Monitor
