Looks like it was an ASUS X200, which is currently going for $300 on Amazon. Granted they could probably have gotten some sort of bulk discount.

I play on this : http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CPIF4G0/ref=redir_mdp_mobile

Runs hearthstone fine while having it connected to my tv as a second monitor watching Legend of Korra in 1080p. Literally anything runs hearthstone.

All the Chromebooks have small hard drives because they're Chromebooks.

Any "normal" laptop will have a "big" hard drive, but with some of the cheapest netbooks I've seen it's even been 180GB in the past year or so, which is amazingly small. Obviously, yeah, that's what you're looking for, I know.

There's an example. Look around for other X200CA models. Also other ASUS "200" models like the Q200something or something. Okay, I see a "newer model", the K200CA, which has a bay trail processor. Is that better than a Celeron? I think the answer is pretty likely not, but I don't know -- check the benchmarks. (The bay trail model would certainly have better battery life though.)

I found a used ThinkPad for $300. I have not purchaed from them, but the seller has a great rating on Amazon.

This computer could serve as more than just a seven-month replacement. You could find uses for it afterwards.

Edit: Also found an ASUS for $300 if you want a new (not used, not refurbished) computer.

The 3DS is being sold for $95 refurbished direct from the Nintendo store CiB with a 1 year Warranty, so I think $100 may be a bit high for a used one.

I do have a few things you might be interested in trading for. I'm open to using Paypal to balance out any trades!

240GB PNY XLR8 SSD CiB and only opened. Unused

500GB WD Blue 3.5" HDD lightly used for 6 months

160GB WD Blue 2.5" HDD used quite a bit for 3 years but works fine

I also have a nice mini-itx case+psu combo if you're interested

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163208 It's this but in white.

I also have an Asus ultrabook in very good condition

Ignoring Chromebooks, I'd suggest looking at the Asus K200MA or X200CA. They're both very basic and lightweight netbooks, and while not fast by any stretch they'd be fine for the usage you've described and basic web browsing.
