Black Friday is coming up, so I highly recommend waiting until then to see if there are any deals if you can put up with your current laptop for another 2 weeks.

Otherwise some of my current recommendations include these

Asus Zenbook 2in1. Generally 2 in 1s are pretty bleh but at $920 I think it checks off what you need.

Lenovo currently has this 14 Inch ThinkBook for $941.

If you have Amazon Prime and don't mind buying an open box product, I also recommend checking out Amazon Warehouse. There are some nice laptops selling at a discounted price. If you don't like it, it's always easy to return (bought a new laptop for school during the spring term through the warehouse). Just make sure to check the condition ("Very Good" is usually basically brand new but YMMV)

Zenbook 13

Zenbook 15.6

Zenbook Ultra

If you are open to other option, then I would recommend this ASUS Zenbook because of the following:

  • The lid is made from brushed metal, it can be opened easily with one hand and the case is made from metal as well, so overall build quality is great.
  • The display part flexes easily, and the keyboard bends a little if you are hard typer.
  • It is very light at 2.5 lbs, it has 2 USB 3, one USB type C, HDMI, and micro SD.
  • USB type C doesn't support Thunderbolt 3 or charging and it also doesn't support DisplayPort Alternate mode which means you can't connect external monitors using the port.
  • The ram is not upgradeable, so what you buy is what you get, major con if 8 is not enough for your usage.
  • Keyboard has four-stage backlight and page Up/Down, Home and End keys don't have their own keys, meaning you would need to use Fn keys to use them, and Key travel is short and feedback is very mushy so it is not the best option if you are used to mechanical keyboard or fast/frequent typer.

  • Touchpad very accurate and fast as it comes with Microsoft’s Precision, and supports multitouch gestures.
  • Touchpad has a glass surface which is very smooth and the buttons are firm.
  • Screen doesn't have PWM-flickering (which is a good thing), and it is very bright.
  • Color coverage is above average at 93% sRGB and 60.4 RGB and it’s suitable for photo editing.
  • High brightness and the matte display makes it great for outside usage.
  • Screen is IPS, has great viewing angles.
  • Because of how small and light the laptop is, it does throttle under intensive work for long period of time (over 30 mins in intensive work), but in short bursts it works very well.

  • Fan gets loud under heavy work, but not to the point where it would be annoying.

  • Sound quality is good, but bass is minimal.

  • Battery supports quick charge ( a big plus), and Asus claims it can charge up to 60% in less than 50 mins.

  • Battery life on average usage had from 7.5 to 9.5 hours.

Hi, I think the two best possible options for you would be the Acer Swift 3 and the ASUS Zenbook UX331FN, both of which have dedicated MX150 graphics card and a weight under 3lbs.

A 13" laptop that can game limits your budget, if you can work with the 14" laptop the ASUS ZenBook UX461FN-DH74T would be a decent laptop to go with if you want to run games at decent enough settings. With the specs it has you won't have to upgrade for a while as it has a long battery life, lots of RAM and a quad-core CPU which will make multitasking easily. Its SSD has lots of space and it is much faster than a traditional HDD and much more reliable.

  • 14 Ultra Slim Convertible Laptop,
  • 14” Full HD WideView,
  • 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8565U,
  • 16GB RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD,
  • GeForce MX150, Windows 10,

If you have your heart set on a 13" laptop though you can also consider the ASUS ZenBook 13 UX331FN gaming wise it will give a similar performance but it is less future proof

I was considering the
Dell G5 Gaming Laptop 15.6" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DJYHJPJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aPKXCbTD2ZJ69

Or the

ASUS ZenBook 13 Ultra-Slim Laptop https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JB56QJ7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hOKXCb13TPEJ6

Just wondering what your opinion is. Thanks man

If you really are doing light gaming the ASUS Zenbook would be the right choice as a student where battery life and portability are key factors. Any sort of intense gaming or AAA titles you would want something more powerful. The Dell G5 you linked is a bit over priced. This version Dell G5587-7866BLK-PUS is around a $100 cheaper with just a little less storage on the SSD

Hi. No you are not dreaming lol. you could get this pretty decent ASUS ZenBook which comes with all you are looking for plus a dedicated gpu for smooth gaming.

u/T-Store · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I would suggest the ASUS Zenbook because it has a very good display with high sRGB coverage for photoshop, an extremely long battery life which is nearly 10h, a very light weight as it weighs 2.7 pounds, and its case is made of metal so it's reliable, and NVIDIA GeForce MX150 which is good for your game.

i will recommend either https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076J5Y9Y1 or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JB56QJ7 depending on games
