Hi,

Around your budget, the ASUS Zenbook UX433FA is on sale, and it has what you're looking for. i7-8565U 4-core processor, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD storage, and 1080p 14" display. This laptop also WiFi up to your requirements.

The battery life is decent, ASUS says up to 14 hours, but I would expect several hours less for light general use.

don't buy off the campus store, it's overpriced.

I'd recommend not buying a gaming laptop, they're heavy af and it's distracting if you have any games on it. Also they just look fuckin hideous.

I'd recommend some sort of Ultrabook. Asus is a great brand because it gives you a warranty against things other than manufacture defects. Lenovo and Acer have good build qualities too, so I would pick one of those 3 brands.

ex 1, ex 2

Most important thing is to have a decent amount of memory; 8GB is probably fine but go with 16GB to be safe. Having an i7 isn't super important but whatever, meet requirements n junk. Beyond that, nothing is super necessary but having a large SSD is very nice for how fast they are.

Just don't get a mac. In your first or second semester, I guarantee one of the teacher will call out everyone who's using a mac and roast them. With good reason. A lot of the programs you're going to be using in later semesters are straight up unusable on Mac, so you would need to run them in Wine or a VM or something.

Asus Zenbook or Thinkpad with 32gb of Ram.

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro. Macbook stopped being a decent laptop after 2012 when they soldered in the ram and SSD. Also Apple releases too many OS versions that sabotage your hardware (APFS) and are incompatible with your legacy software. Windows 10 is better for maintaining legacy software. I'll never buy another Apple product again.

Software engineer here. I work with ML, and you wont be training and large models on your PC. If all you really plan on doing is working with programming and some photoshop, you DO NOT NEED A GPU.

A GPU will make the laptop heavier than it needs to be, and it may consume more better.

I also recommend you avoid a 4k screen, considering the fact that it adds quite the cost to the PC and you probably wont use it much unless you're working on images in photoshop that are 4k resolution. It also consumes a lot more battery. A 1080p panel is fine even for 15 inch laptops, so it's definitely more than enough for a 14 inch.

Both the i7-8550u and i7-8560u will be sufficient for what you're doing. You should also aim to have 16 GB RAM and ~512 GB+ SSD. You should be able to get all of this at that price point.

If you don't feel the need to spend your whole budget, I'll recommend the ASUS ZenBook 14: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Ultra-Slim-Nano-Edge-Processor-Numberpad/dp/B07HRZRLVJ

It has everything you're looking for (including a really beautiful display, with pretty much no bezels) for $1150. If you don't mind spending extra, the Dell XPS 13/15 or X1 Carbon models with similar specifications would also be perfect.

The only new Zenbook 14 available at the moment (integrated graphics; no MX150) has been on Amazon for a week or so. https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Slim-Nano-Edge-i7-8565U-Processor-Numberpad/dp/B07HRZRLVJ/

BestBuy.com has the Zenbook 15 but not the 14 yet. I've been waiting to buy at a local Best Buy if possible, partly to support local and part for an easier return if necessary. They will match prices you see elsewhere.

I've been watching for new releases, but Asus has been a little frustrating with release dates and announcements.

Good luck!

You might want to check out the new ZenBook 14. Specs wise it has a 8th-Gen i7 processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD storage and a beautiful 14" Full HD NanoEdge bezel (all 4 sides) display resulting in the laptop no bigger than an A4 size which is pretty amazing to me. Most thin and light laptops still have at least one side that has a thick bezel. Build wise it has a mil-grade 810G chassis and weighs only 2.6lbs. I am getting about 6 to 8 hours battery life. The only problem is the trackpad can be buggy at times. But this does not affect me at all since I use a wireless mouse to improve my productivity. There’s also a ZenBook 15 if you want a dedicated graphics card. Check them out and see if it works for you!

Check out ASUS ZenBook 14. For the starting price of the macbook air you will get more processing power, more ram and a lot more storage (512GB). It has smiliar thin and light form factor with a bet more screen due to the slim bezel design.

Yeah, definitely but the only 14-inch model that Asus has released is the one with no MX150, Core i7-8265U, 16gb RAM, and 512gb of storage. Right now on Amazon is going to cost you $1199.99.

u/Maruuji · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thanks for the detailed response! The Zenbook was also on my list as I've mentioned here along with a few other laptops.

However, I'm curious about your thoughts on the Zenbook 14? It is a little out of my proposed price point but if it's worth it I might settle for it. It also looks quite aesthetically pleasing.

u/hrm100 · 1 pointr/photography

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a new laptop, being that my main focus is photo editing on the go in Lightroom Classic and a few Premiere projects here and there. I have to keep in mind size, weight and price, as well as build quality (besides the obvious screen accuracy and performance).

Since the prices here in Portugal are mental, I've narrowed it down to the HP Envy 13 and the Asus Zenbook 14:

Related links with specs (I'm not linking to the actual stores I'm buying cuz portuguese):

Bless me with your opinions.

u/Croi_ · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

That’s decent. Do you know anything about the Asus Zenbook ? It has 16gb of ram for around the same price.

u/Swapnildx · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I am in a similar boat as you and have been searching for a couple weeks now. Based on that, I have narrowed my choices to these:
