James Clear also just released a book on this a few weeks ago that talks exactly about this called Atomic Habits, which is already a NY times bestseller.

As a photographer, my first thought is you need a different lens to look at yourself through. One that is without harsh criticism and judgement, and filled with love and kindness for yourself. That accepts you for you and forgives you for your shortcomings. You are great just the way you are, even as a work in progress.
Some things in the outside world you can change, and some you can't. But you can change the way you see yourself and the stories you tell yourself about you. Imagine a version of you that you love. A version of you that is healthy and attractive and outgoing (or whatever traits you envision). Now imagine what that version of you would do to stay that way. What books would that version of you read, what activities would you pursue, what would you eat, how would you live? Now, you can't change everything all at once, but you can start slowly making small decisions that are in line with the person that you want to become -- because I believe you already are that person on the inside. You just have to learn to express it outwardly. Big, bold changes are great, but the most sustainable changes are the very small ones that point you in the right direction. I'm listening to James Clear's Atomic Habits, and I would highly recommend it for building better habits.
No need to answer here if you don't want, but what are some things you do like about yourself? And why? What do other people like about you? My bet is you are your own worst critic. Maybe even ask some friends what they like about you so you can learn to see the good stuff too. I have no doubt there is lots to like~
I'd recommend checking out the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear; he has a lot of great insights into habits, how habits work, and how to adopt new habits.

An easy way to think of a habit is like a cat in a cardboard box: you can decide to get rid of the habit, but the cat will slink back into the box when you're not looking, haha. So you have to put something else in the box to prevent the cat from going back in it. So if you want to get rid of a habit, you need another critter to replace the one you have.
For example, if you're struggling with wasting time on the Internet, what are you going to replace it with? If you're attempting to simply use willpower or motivation to fight against the urge to surf, well, we all know that's not a good long-term strategy because it will fail the moment you don't feel like doing it anymore.
Let's say you like to eat candy bars from the vending machine, but want to change out to a healthier snacking habit. If you don't have anything tasty & ready to go, then you're setting yourself up for failure. If you do have a snack, but it's not a very good snack (i.e. a "health" food snack), then you still risk caving. But if you get something tasty AND prepare it ahead of time, now you're cookin'! So maybe get some delicious hummus & carrot sticks & baked chips instead, so that when your snack attack hits, you've got a better habit prepared & ready to go!
There are lots of ways to attack the problem of changing bad habits; replacement habits are just one option. If you want to go extreme, you can actually buy a shock bracelet to discourage you from doing whatever it is you don't want to do, haha:
