Found your problem! The chat cable for your headset which goes from the controller to the headset has that dumb "puck" style connector on the controller end. See pics here and here from the manual. This connector only fits on Xbox 360 controllers.

The only thing you could try that will probably work (I'm like 95% sure it'll work) is if you get a 2.5mm to 2.5mm cable like this one and use that instead of the one I pointed out in the pictures. Probably worth a shot to spend the $5 on the cable, like I said I'm pretty damn sure this would work.

I was wondering the very same thing. The one turtle beach recommends has that fugly volume control mid-cable, and it's $15 for some reason.

The volume controls are on Xbox chat adapter itself so it's kind of redundant for the cable to have it as well. I was thinking of getting this one. It's a little too convenient for just any 2.5mm cable to work, it makes me suspicious.
