Interestingly enough, I actually took a picture of the two Action Bases as a comparison for my Amazon Review a few days ago.

The Action Base 1 extends to a length of about 9 inches vertically and has a lot more supporting strength. You can do things with these that I wouldn't recommend with the Action Base 2 for 1/144s, specifically like having the Gundams "floating" parallel to the ground as opposed to vertically from it.
The Action Base 2s are pretty small and are best for desk display in uncomplicated poses. They extend to approximately 4 inches and have a few adapters for 1/144 kits.
The bases, notably, for both Action Base 1 and 2 are NOT connectable with each other, at least not with the parts I received. Action Base 1s can connect to other Action Base 1s using the square piece. Action Base 2s can connect to other Action Base 2s using this little piece that ties the pieces together.
Yes, that Action Base 2 could have supported Strike Freedom's weight, but only vertically. Tilted, the base would have fallen over.

I used an Action Base 1 for my TIE Interceptor, it comes with all sorts of adaptors for pretty much every kit Bandai produces.
