Bluetooth music quality varies based on the following:

  • What quality of music are you listening to (FLAC, 320kbps streaming, etc.)?
  • What version of Bluetooth is your device (source)?
  • Are there any audio codecs like Apt-X, LDAC, or AAC that the source supports? These newer codecs improve things like compression and bitrate to enable higher-quality streaming.

It will also matter as to how important active noise cancelling (ANC) is to you. If you fly often and ANC is top priority, then go for the Bose QC35 I or II, or the Sony MDR-1000X first or second generation as they both have superb noise cancellation.

If ANC is more of a nice to have and you like listening to Pop, Rap, EDM, or any other heavily-produced music, then I recommend picking up a used pair Bowers & Wilkins P7 Wireless for ~$300. While it doesn't have ANC, its passive isolation of noise is okay.

Not the same color, but still something to consider when pricing.

I can't add much experience to the mix but I used a pair of Sony's for the past three years - hard to go wrong with decent sound and good battery life / comfort for $125. They finally broke recently so I've been eyeing a pair of B&O Play H7's to use as a replacement for a slightly higher price point of $250. I can't speak to their quality beyond a few weekends of research so far, but hopefully that serves as a good starting point while we both wait for heavyweight feedback!

Not sure why these haven't been posted:

I can give you a few wireless that I have on my list should I get lucky and Sony refunds me! Disclaimer: I have NOT tried any of these but I have spent a lot of time researching alternatives and my top 3 (assuming similar price range) would be:

  1. P7 Wireless - I have had some cheaper B&W before and liked them over most other headphones in their price range at the time. These are rated highly and I think they look great.
  2. V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless - There are a few bad reviews on there; a few people complaining of the battery dying after a month. If purchased through Amazon, I have no doubt they would replace them pretty quickly even if past their 30 day return. They have done it for me a handful of times on things much more expensive. <3 amazon.
  3. B&O H7 Wireless - Probably the least exciting look (to me at least) but I think they are still cool & modern looking, also highly rated. If you need noise cancelling, I believe they have another model, the H8 for $500.

I would make sure you purchase from Amazon or anyone else that makes returns easy & cheap/free.

If you do get any of these, please let me know and if you were happy with them because someday I would like to get another good pair of wireless cans, hopefully before my 1000x finally die.
