I use this headphone amp to split my signal to RS, an amp, and a third line for recording raw guitar output.

With individual amps I can set levels for each output.

u/mollymoo · 7 pointsr/PS3

That's really not a good way to do it. Line level audio is intended to transfer an audio signal between devices, not to drive headphones. You would be overloading the PS3's audio output, which is designed for loads of around 10k ohm, if you connected some headphones which might have an impedance 100 times lower. It would be quiet, you'd have no volume control and you'd likely get some distortion.

The right way to do it - the way which wouldn't overload the PS3's audio output and would give you adequate volume which you could control - is to use an amplifier. Practically any stereo will have the required line-in and headphone out, or you can buy a dedicated headphone amp. You'd need, say, an amp like this and a cable like this(if you wanted to connect it directly to the PS3).

You could always just get a headphone amp and separate powered speakers. In order to not break the bank but still have quality products, I recommend:

Headphone Amp

Powered speakers

Have owned both and can say you’ll be happy, especially for the price point.

Something like this

You can spend more and get one with balanced inputs, but even these cheap little ones work well.

u/ThickAsABrickJT · 5 pointsr/audioengineering

If you're talking about something like the Behringer HA400, then there should be minimal (if any) effect on the sound when it comes to your monitors.

That said, your headphones might be another story. A lot of cheap headphone amplifiers have a resistor in between the amplifier chip and the headphone jack. Because headphones are low impedance (16Ω-60Ω) and this impedance changes with frequency, this can cause the frequency response to be different from what it should be. Your monitors have high-impedance inputs that won't be affected by this resistor.

Really, the only thing you can do (aside from opening up the headphone amp, if you're familiar with electrical engineering) is to do a listening test.

A full setup that will record four local mics, max, or two local mics and a Skype caller. A choice of mics.

Hmm... Headphone amplifier maybe?

http://amzn.com/B000KIPT30 (or something like this)?

u/darkdoppelganger · 4 pointsr/livesound

A distribution amp is definitely the way to go - if you want to stay economical, you probably need something like this.

u/vsod99 · 4 pointsr/pcgaming

You should probably be fine with your motherboard's built in audio, but if you're looking to get a little clearer low ends, this is a pretty good one for the price. Alternatively, you could purchase a DAC, which would function as an external sound card, and many have built in amplification as well.

Thank you for the reply.

Do you think these cheap Behringer MX400 and Behringer HA400 will do the job for band practice?

The only problem is that I have a very convenient record function on my drum module that records the mix in and the drums to a wav file on a SD card, by plugging everything to the mixer I lose this function so maybe I should wire like that:
Bass + Guitar -> MX400 -> Drum module -> HA400 -> headphones.
That way I can record easily while jamming, what do you think?

u/squirley2005 · 3 pointsr/audioengineering

Funnily enough I have myself just bought one of these for like £20. Well worth it!!

u/kjack9 · 3 pointsr/Vive

I got this one for use with my HD558s. I'm then running a 30 ft long headphone extension (15ft from computer to link box, 15 ft for Vive cable) back to a Behringer headphone amp and then a DAC. I also have other 15 ft extensions (DisplayPort, USB, power) from the link box back to my PC.

The end result? 30 ft of Vive leash, headphone cable is cable-wrapped back to a proper headphone amp and DAC. No plugging/unplugging, and good sound quality to boot.

Granted, take everything I just said above with the understanding that I don't have a Vive yet, and it might work great...or not!

u/bushwoodband · 3 pointsr/Reaper

I've experienced this issue as well - my workaround is using this headphone amp that I have ($24 on amazon, link below) in between my interface and the headphones, and it provides an extra level of gain, which gets me right in the sweet zone

If on a budget:

I like the Behringer q802usb for a mixer $65

2 ATR 2100 Mics $80 a piece

If you want to spend more on a mic that won't pick up as much noise:

Sennheiser E835 Dynamic Cardioid Vocal Microphone $100 a piece - but doesn't come with stand or pop filter...

Audio-Technica ATH-M30x Headphones to monitor sound or edit. $70

If you want your partner to have headphones, you will need a headphone amp $25 and chord $7

If you have any questions I have a Facebook Group for beginners: Podcasting Made Simple

Pretty much the easiest way is a single Bluetooth receiver, connected to the input of an audio splitter (preferably a powered one, such as a multi-headphone amp like this) sending copies of the received audio to the separate devices. There are currently no completely wireless solutions to having truly synchronized audio sent to multiple outputs - at least not available for the common man. It's a topic of much research.

u/tcookc · 3 pointsr/audioengineering

you'll need an additional headphone amp/splitter to get more than two hp-out on any affordable interface.

u/runwichi · 2 pointsr/synthesizers

Okay - so MIDI isn't audio, it's just a communication protocol that lets things talk to one another. I'm going to guess that you're either sending a MIDI sequence to your keyboards (which would require a MIDI OUT from the device), or you're sending an audio feed that has a MIDI track assigned to it out of the laptop (which would need an audio output from the interface).

The XR18 can do both of these as it has a MIDI interface on the device itself. Fair warning, though - most mixers do not have a MIDI interface on them, so if you're specifically looking for a combo unit, your options are going to be severely limited.

You mention that the click will be sent to everyone else in the band, how many people will be getting the click? Have you thought about a headphone splitter?

I use a Behringer x1222usb mixer and three ATR2100-USB Microphones. I got the ATR2100s because I wanted the flexibility to be able to plug them directly into my Mac. I then have two Behringer Ultravoice Xm8500 Microphones as backups for when we have additional guests.

If I were doing it all over again I would have saved some money on the mics and bought 4 of the Xm8500s and just 1 ATR2100 (to plug directly into my computer when I needed to).

The x1222 mixer works fine, though I'm beginning to wish I had gotten a mixer that can record multiple audio tracks so that I could do some more fine tuning to individual audio levels in post (until then, I recommend a great program, called Levelator, farther below that can help with this).

You'll need decent cables for each mic, which will cost more than you expect--from what I've seen looking for cables with Neutrik connectors is usually good practice. There's also the matter of decent mic stands and pop filters as well.

You'll also probably want head phones for each podcaster so that they can hear themselves whenever they drift off mic. Amazon basics headphones are probably good enough for anyone not controlling the mixer. Then you'll also need a headphone amp (which splits the headphone signal and lets each person control their own headphone volume), for example. And you'll need several (at least one per set of headphones plus a couple spare) 6.35mm (1/4 inch) Male to 3.5mm (1/8 inch) Female headphone jack adapters.

If you want to do Skype interviews, you'll need a mixer with an AUX send port. You'll also need an iMic audio device, you can find out more about that and the other audio cables you'll need [here] (http://thepodcastersstudio.com/how-to-setup-a-mix-minus/).

Regarding software. I'd personally recommend Audacity over Garage Band, I just feel like I have more control over the sound with Audacity. Once you clean your audio up a bit (remove background noise, compress, run a limiter, etc) you should consider running it through the program Levelator which does great things to equalize voice levels.

I'm new at this as well, having only recorded 8 times, but if you want some more tips from someone else who is just starting out--just let me know.

A headphone splitter like this one might do the trick.

u/ryandinho14 · 2 pointsr/DaftPunk

There are all sorts of amps you can get. Are you interested in tube or solid-state? Are you getting the ATH-M50s for sure? If you are, you will need to get a high-wattage tube amplifier, because the ATH-M50s only produce 38 ohms, which is a low impedance. This means that plugged into a tube amplifier, they will not be very loud, especially compared to higher-impedance headphones. To compensate for this, you will need to get a higher-wattage amplifier, which translates to more expensive.

Depending on your price range, I would direct you to anything from the solid-state Behringer HA40 to the tube HiFiMan Ef5. Honestly unless you are an experienced audiophile, you will not need a tube amplifier, but they are really cool. If you want to meet somewhere in the middle there are also what's called integrated amplifiers, which combine the components of tube and solid-state amplifiers. They claim is that they produce the quality of tube with the volume of solid-state at a price between the two. That's up to the judges right now but for most an integrated amplifier is definitely ample, especially a beginner.

Personally I use the FiiO E6 as my portable headphone amplifier. It's pretty good for being so small but I do hear white noise at louder levels. FiiO is a fairly reputable amplifier company if you want to look into them. I really don't know enough about amplifiers yet (this is my weakest area) to recommend a specific product, but here are some popular integrated amplifiers. I'm still garnering the money and experience to become an amplifier connoisseur.

A splitter cable will work, you just won't be able to independently control the volume for each headphone. You could also pair a DAC like Fiio D3 with this although not sure how noisy that would be compared to the other options

The Schitt Mani RF Interference issue does seem to exist, however it may be a minor amount of incidences. It will be interesting to know Schitts reply if you get one.

The Fluance PA10 was just released a few days ago, so no reviews yet. Their stuff is good and I don't see why the preamp wouldn't be. They have 30 day returns and shipping is free both ways so you may as well try it.

Don't bother replacing the DJPREII with the GOgroove. They are both geared towards the entry level DJ pro audio market, not the budget audiophile for home audio. Sure they work ok, but for $20 to $30 more get something that should be better for the RT82. The OM10 is a good cart, it is the previous generation to the 2M Red. Besides the Fluance PA10, you can get a used U-turn Pluto for $70 from the reputable AudioAdvice.com through Amazon. Mine arrived in the original box and looks and works as good as new.

A super low budget phono stage/preamp with a headphone jack is the Behringer U-Phono UFO202 Audiophile USB/Audio Interface with Built-in Phono Preamp $30. It will also allow you to record vinyl to computer via USB. Probably not very good, but it will work as a very temporary setup until you get a better $70+ phono preamp and $100+ headphone amp.

Another option for a headphone amp is an AMP and DAC (for your computer) combo. [z]GUIDE[s] \\\ DAC & AMP COMBOS Starting at $40.

Head Phones. Headphones.. .HEAD PHONES!!!!!
Get Ether a simple non powerd headphone splitter.
Or even better, a powerd one like this one here

We I do the same set up on our channel and a powered splitter is WELL WORTH IT. IT lets both of us adjust out levels to our liking.
Though keep in mind. IT's not going to be the END ALL of background pic up on that Yeti.

If you have open backed headphones or just it REALLY LOUD. the Yeti will still pick up the audio from them. I've noticed it in my captures as well. But since it is so low, it's not noticeable when the game audio is mixed in.

So get a powered headphone amp that will split into multiple out puts for your cheapest best solution in my book.

Inelegant and cheap solution I use for my 598s. You can pay more for a mixamp, but meh. This gets loud. You may need another aux cable... I don't recall if the DAC came with one, as I needed a long one that I got separately.

Here is the headphone amp I use. I have a windscreen but I haven't used it since i always used it inside. I have not tried to use it to record three people talking at once but I knew someone who did it with an H1 with some success. It definitely had more of a live sound than in a studio.

You could use a small mixer and a headphone amp, especially if you have no intention of recording.

You'll want enough inputs for all of your instruments. If you have 4 instruments playing in your band then you'll need 4 input channels.

The cheapest way would be:

4 input mixer (all on TRS jacks - you would have to convert XLR to jack and you wouldn't be able to send phantom power to condenser microphones).
https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-Micromix-MX400-Low-Noise-4-Channel/dp/B000KGYAYQ

4 channel headphone amp.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Headphone-Amps/Behringer-HA400-Microamp-Headphone-Amplifier/B000KIPT30

Cable to connect the two boxes. The cable must be TRS otherwise you'll only get the left side or right side only - guitar cable wouldn't be great.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stagg-SAC3PS-DL-Deluxe-Instrument/dp/B0030LVCDK/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=377W0ZHNLRN5W&keywords=trs+cable&qid=1555711034&s=gateway&sprefix=trs+&sr=8-5

You would hear sound, it's cheap and compact. If you're willing to spend more money then you could get more expensive equipment. It wouldn't be pretty but it would do for starting out along with a sub £50 investment.

> The amp gets it's input from a 3,5mm TRS jack to dual XLR adapter cable which goes into a "headphone amp".
>
> The headphone amp in this case is actually just to take the stereo signal from the pc and send it to 4 other devices (one of which is the tl-700 amp we are talking about). The only controls on the "headphone amp" are volume knobs for each output.

What the F**!

So is this a multi-channel Headphone Amp something like this -

https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-HA400-Ultra-Compact-4-Channel-Headphone/dp/B000KIPT30/

Perhaps not the specific brand, but functionally similar?

And why would you not use a

https://www.amazon.com/Rolls-MX51S-Four-Channel-Stereo-Mixer/dp/B0002BG2S6/

And are you sure it is a STEREO Headphone amp? Can you give us the specific Brand and Model.

My suggestion at this point is to go back to the most basic configuration possible. Get rid of all the complications and go directly from -
something* - into the Amp, and see if it works properly.

Given the complexity of the Setup, I suspect the Set Up itself rather than the amp are causing the problem

Happy to help! And I’m not sure about the Blue Yeti. I would read reviews and checkout forum threads to find out more.

The mic I have and like is this (important to note I don’t sing so haven’t put it to the real test):

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AT2020--audio-technica-at2020-cardioid-condenser-microphone?mrkgcl=28&mrkgadid=3301332174&rkg_id=0&product_id=AT2020&campaigntype=shopping&campaign=aaShopping%20-%20SKU%20-%20Studio%20%26%20Recording&adgroup=Microphones%20%26%20Wireless%20-%20Audio-Technica%20-%20at2020&placement=google&adpos=1o11&creative=280136034178&device=m&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CjwKCAjw_b3cBRByEiwAdG8WqoLYzYWBTYB37WkqrX8p69rmu7nyqKOlWANFXGBquefokAjUPIUXbBoCfTYQAvD_BwE

Studio headphones I recommend:

($80-100 range) industry standard, very flat response, this is what I started with and finished my first song using:

($210-240 range)
More snazzy, have them and love them, flat response, a lot more comfortable than the Sony’s too:

https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-880-PRO-Studio-Headphones/dp/B079P9H1SH?th=1&psc=1

If you’ll get these you’ll probably want an amp to power them separately in order to maximize volume control (this is due to the Ohms, and is useful for anything higher than 80), I have this one it does great.. only $25 too:

Btw the reason I say price “range” is because the prices fluctuate with promotions etc.

Cheers!

Connect the MON OUT (monitor out) to a headphone amp and you're good to go. It's normal and beneficial to monitor yourself, as well.

u/RapidMMA · 2 pointsr/audio

Ok, Thank you. Here is a similar setup to what I use. My personal one is a bit more sophisticated but nonetheless, these items will certainly get you started and aim you in the right direction.

-

Let's start with the Mixer:

Your mixer will be your new interface. Rather than plugging one microphone into your computer you'll plug all your microphones into one mixer which then will be connected to your computer via USB.

Microphone - Mixer - Computer

Here is a good starter at a decent price. It'll be your most expensive single piece of equipment (unless you decide to get top tier microphones). You'll be able to EQ and set levels to each microphone hooked up to the mixer before sending it to Audacity (or Audition, Reaper). You can also hook up more than 3 mics, a guitar, your phone, maybe you want to hook your computer up to it to play a sound, basically anything that sends one signal to another, you'll be able to do it with this and record it.

  • Behringer QX1202USB 12-Channel Mixer

    -

    Next Microphones:

If you're able to hook up a mic cable (XLR) to your Blue Yeti, you can still use that microphone, too. Obviously, switch your polar pattern to cardioid that way it's more directional and doesn't pick up as much room noise. Also, try to point it away from your AC unit. Regardless, since the Blue Yeti is a condenser microphone, it'll pick up more room noise because it's much more sensitive. That's why in broadcast situations you'll always see dynamic microphones such as the Electrovoice RE20 or Shure SM7b. For your own sake, I would do some research on condenser vs dynamic but any website you shop at (or if you go to Guitar Center in person) you can filter microphones by condenser or dynamic. I highly recommend buying yourself 3 dynamic microphones to reduce room noise.

    Here are my microphone recommendations:

  • Cheap - Behringer XM8500 - You'll likely need a mount and windscreen or pop filter
  • Low - Shure SM58 - You'll likely need a mount and windscreen or pop filter
  • Mid - Rode Procaster - No mount, windscreen/pop filter necessary
  • Best - Electrovoice RE20 - No mount, windscreen/pop filter necessary

    -

    Finally, your Accessories:

You'll need 3 XLR's to hook 3 microphones up to the mixer. I recommend purchasing them from monoprice.com - very cheap cables that last a long time if you learn to wrap your cable correctly.

    Same with your microphone stands:

  • Simple Tripod Microphone Stand

Most microphones you buy will come with the mount for it. If you get the Behringer XM8500 or the Shure SM58 you might need one of these if it doesn't come with it:

  • Mount

Also, for both of those mics I definitely recommend buy either a pop filter or wind screen to put over top to reduce plosives. If you don't know what plosives are, google it. You wont need to worry about plosives if you purchase the Rode Procaster or RE20.

  • Windscreens
  • Pop Filter

One very last thing to mention is headphones. Through the mixer, there is a headphone jack where you can plug headphones in to monitor the mix. However, there is also something called "Main Out" or "Control Room Out" - you can send your vocal mix to an external Headphone Amplifier/Splitter that way you and your friends can all listen to the mix in real time.

Audacity is a good program but I recommend getting familiar with Reaper The trial version is free version and I think after the 60 day evaluation you're still allowed to use it although it may press you to buy it. I personally use Adobe Audition but that requires a subscription. If Audacity works fine for you, then by all means.

I apologize for the long post and I hope it's not too overwhelming. Mixer, Microphones, Cables, Stands, and headphone splitter is basically what this whole post is about! Feel free to ask questions.

If all else fails just find a podcasting kit to purchase from somewhere and go from there http://www.bswusa.com/Podcasting-Packages-BSW-Internet-Radio-Going-Pro-Kit-Dual-P10534.aspx

Here's a copy/paste from a thread a while ago. This setup is kind of expensive, but it's a good setup if you plan on podcasting for a long time. If you're looking at running a show with multiple hosts/guests in-studio and via Skype, this is a good setup to have.

Also, I had bad experiences with Behringer mixers. They're fairly cheap but they don't last long. I had one for maybe three days and hated it. There was a loud hissing noise every time we'd record. I've heard other people have the same problem. I've also heard the reason Behringer is so cheap is they're assembled with the cheapest components. So that's why they don't last very long.

"First off, I wouldn't recommend garageband for recording or editing. It's a resource hog that eats up your ram. I've had it freeze up in the middle of recording before and while editing. I recommend going with Audacity. It's not as user friendly as garageband but it's reliable. I recorded for 2.5 hours in one sitting with no problems.

As for a mixer, I highly recommend the Alesis MultiMix 8 USB. You just plug it into the USB of your laptop, adjust the sound settings on whatever program your recording into and you're set. You can use it to pull audio from the laptop (ie Skype call or YouTube video) into the mix.

There's also the Alesis MultiMix 4 USB. It's cheaper, has less bells and whistles but it works just as well. Though, you'll need this cord if you want to pull audio from the laptop.

In order to hook up multiple Headphones with these mixers, you'll need a headphone amp.

As for mics, the Audio-Technica ATR2100 is a great mic for the price. And it's got xlr and USB cords."

When I wrote that, the Audio Technica mics were $30 a pop. Now they're almost twice as much. I've been podcasting with mine for over a year and a half and it still works great.

Here's a link to my podcast, in case you want to gauge the audio quality of this setup.

May not be relevant here but still - I use a Behringer HA 400 connected to my receivers headphone out. It has 4 outputs with decent power (no problem with ath m50x and AKG K240). With a decent quality long stereo 6.5mm cable, it reaches my couch. I was in exactly your position when I could not decide on a suitable solution for multiple wireless headphones due to issues with wireless (cost, connectivity, battery and quality) . Finally settled on this 6 months ago and very happy with the result. Would definitely recommend giving this a try as it is not very expensive.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the replies. In thinking more about this, I really am not so interested in saving the money. The Zoom H6 costs about $350, and the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is about $150. That savings is great, and the volume control improvement hits the mark, but there are other downgrades that I might miss now from the H6, such as 4+ inputs and the on-unit input meter displays. All just to not have the crappy headphone output controls. Due to this I think I'm leaning towards another solution: a headphone amplifier, like this

u/Calahara · 1 pointr/audioengineering

Sorry, would you mind if I asked a follow-up? Let's say I were to go for something extremely cheap like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000KIPT30/

Do these serve, functionally, the same purpose, or is it that low-price for a reason i.e. something's missing?

u/raveiskingcom · 1 pointr/podcasting

Yeah, I actually have the control room out go to the following headphone "microamp" (not sure if that is considered a mixer):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KIPT30/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Since I usually only have 3 headphones plugged in, that means the 4th is free so hypothetically maybe I could have the 4th headphone signal go to your normal headphone jack in the smartphone (or camera, etc). Would that make sense?

u/Zunger · 1 pointr/techsupport

One headphone splitter caused me problems with anything that put out any power. Any attempt to play sound or any games caused distortion or weird feedback. I've found on an alternative device I can use earplugs with a splitter but anything more is an issue. I ended up getting this headphone amp for my desktop because of it.

u/aRandomEscapeBuilder · 1 pointr/escaperooms

We have ceiling tiles in the rooms at our location. We cut the corners of the ceiling tiles so it fits the microphones that way they're hidden from the players. Then we run the wires to the control room and connect them to a mixer. The setup is pretty cheap. It's $30 per mic for each physical room and $25 per mixer for the entire room setup. You will also need to get RCA to quarter inch adapters for the mics and a headphone.

As for the quality, we can hear everything in the room. The only drawback is a bit of noise from the A/C unit but it's still acceptable imo. One great thing about this setup is that we can choose to listen to all the rooms in a themed room at the same time instead of just listening to one physical room at a time. You can also add more microphones in the room if it's a massive room.

It sounds like you have it figured out, except you're missing a Headphone Amp that would plug into your mixer's monitoring jack (possibly labelled "headphones" or even just "phones" on the mixer). Your in-studio co-hosts then plug in, can hear the Skype-host, and still be able to adjust their volumes individually.

I use this amplifier to control the speakers at my desk (Headphones / Computer Speakers / Subwoofer; it lets me lower the subwoofer individually at night since I have apartment neighbors) and I was told at the audio place that I got it from that the difference between this and a premium headphone amp were negligble, and I bought it for my 6xx's. It definitely, noticeably (I'd like to put emphasis here) increased max volume from my desktop PC and Apple laptop. I also haven't noticed anything clarity-wise, but that is to my untrained ear.

I just bought a DAC (SMSL M6) and plan to set it up as follows:

Apple TV with Apple Lossless files-->TV via HDMI-->DAC via optical-->Behringer headphone amp-->Grado SR80 headphones

I know the Apple TV resamples to 48kHz, but hope it won't matter to my newbie ears. Would anyone comment on this setup? Am I doing it right? Any component that limits things to the point of making a good sound tough to achieve?

I do have a 1st gen Airport Express I could use for the ATV audio to keep it at 44.1kHz, but was hoping to keep video sound played through other sources (PS3 for Bluray and Amazon, for example) going through the DAC as well...

There’s a few things you could do. What I think would be the easiest is getting two items, a dual mono to single balanced quarter inch “y” cable, like this one and plug it into a simple headphone amp like this for example

u/greyleafstudio · 1 pointr/WeAreTheMusicMakers

The ohms are the resistance, and so the higher the ohms the more power is required to drive them. These ones can be driven by a computer output (3.5mm) but I recommend an entry level amp (This is what I am using currently - it is functional) to allow them to reach full loudness. If you prefer to avoid the logistics of this, you can opt for the lower ohm version, but they do not produce quite as 'rich' a sound as the higher resistance ones do (purportedly, I am sure they still sound amazing)

u/vonshavingcream · 1 pointr/Bass

Use a mixer like this just an older version. and a headphone amp like this again just an older version. We've been rehearsing like this for years.

You should be able to solve your problem for around $50.

u/X678X · 1 pointr/drums

1: you're looking for a headphone amp with multiple outputs, like this or this if you want something larger. it'd be best if you could have your own mix for each instrument as not everyone wants to hear the same thing (which the larger HA8000 unit allows with the direct input), but on a budget the first one would be fine

What does the adapter look like? I'm not sure what civilian plane jacks mean - do you mean the ones you plug into on regular flights for the in-seat entertainment?

  1. I would find a way to split the headphone jack that's built into the console, Esports groups I've worked with before used those headsets and one of these Behringer headphone amps for this. So out of headphone port, into headphone amp, out of headphone amp to up to 4 headsets.

  2. This gets more complex and isn't REALLY possible with this mixer or without another mixer in addition. You would want a mixer with another Aux send and basically set up another mix minus that would include you and everything else the casters want to hear (themselves, game audio) and route that through an aux and then that aux out to the caster headphones. Alternatively you could get a second small mixer and take the headphone out of your larger mixer, put that into the small mixer, add your God headset into that small mixer and then out of that small mixer into the caster headphones. Be aware that if you care a lot for Stereo (hearing imaging or two different things in either ear) interconnects get a lot more complicated.

  3. I'm sure there are a billion things out there, I learned nearly everything on the job or through my college degree so it's hard to call up any one resource that would cover all the basics. My first suggestion would be read the manual for whatever console you're interested in purchasing and google any terms that you aren't familiar with, generally basic analog console manuals are great at explaining functionality and industry terms. The Mackie 1604 was bog standard for many years as the cheap analog mixer so I'd say click on through that to get a core understanding.

Its not dumb man, we all asked these same questions at one point.

You'll want a headphone amp like this Behringer 4 Channel Amp. The reason I say get an amp over a simple aux splitter is that you need the ability to independently control volume levels for each set of headphones. For instance, you might want your headphones up a little louder than the vocalists monitoring headphones should go, and with a splitter, you cant do that. Hence, headphone amp (and they're comparatively cheap).

u/Sukynsin · 1 pointr/buildapc

I wouldn't recommend that. But something like this wouldn't be bad.

This Behringer microamp ought to do it. It's not precisely a switch, but you can use it like one.

I should note that all of its ports are 1/4". You'll need adapters.

I'm also looking for something similar this 4 channel mixer. But I was wondering if it'd be able to handle my headphones which are 250ohm and powering my speakers? If anyone else could help? Maybe calling /u/ZeosPantera would have some input?

u/AeolianGames · 1 pointr/letsplay

All you need is a single powered headphone splitter, such as the Behringer HA400. I've been using that model for the exact purpose of splitting game audio for almost a year now. Not sure what your previous setup was like, but there is no problem with quality in any way.

u/The_iron_mill · 1 pointr/letsplay

If you play consoles and use a capture card in OBS, you should be able to use a monitor to put your sound through your PC. If you're just using a PC, you can use your PC's sound output as normal.

For hardware, you could get what's called a "Headphone Amp" like this one that I use (~$25) to let multiple people listen to your audio (Just be aware that the headphone jack is 1/4 inch like an instrument cable, not 1/8 inch like most computer headphone jacks).

I also believe that OBS lets you monitor your audio inputs; this is available in "Advanced Audio Properties". I assume that you're using OBS (and if you're not, you definitely should consider it- in my opinion it is hands down the best recording software for this application).

Also, you can record separate tracks in OBS; there's a bunch of tutorials on that. Just search "OBS separate audio tracks" and you should get a good idea of what you can do. That way you can edit your mic audio or your game audio individually without interfering with the other track.

An amplifier is what comes to mind first. I've heard good things about this one and this one

u/amaraNT2oo2 · 1 pointr/ableton

Looks like your specific interface does indeed restrict the headphones to output only the Line Out 1-2. So you'll need a headphone amplifier that will accept stereo balanced TRS line input, like a Samson Q5 or similar. You would then connect the 1/4" line outs 3-4 to this box, and then use this for your headphones.

You could probably get away with using a Behringer HA400 and connecting its input to your Line Out 3-4 using a TRS -> stereo TS y-cable. The only problem there is that the Behringer is expecting a headphone-level signal at its input, and your interface's line out 3-4 is much lower than a headphone signal. So you would have to crank the Behringer's volume up, increasing noise.

u/kiwiandapple · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Ow that's very very cool.

How many band members? Then by all means, get.. 3 or 4 Sennheiser HD598SE's.
I do have to say something, I am absolutely not an expert on this at all. It's the very first time I've got a request like this before. So I am also learning.

From what I've learned so far, it might not be as easy to simply plug in 3/4 headphones into this splitter that I've found and have awesome sound for all of you.

Because there might not be enough power. Or their might be some interference depending on how it all works..
I really am not sure on this at all.. The idea I currently have should work. Your audio will go like this.

#1

PC ► (via USB cable) DAC ► (via RCA cable) AMP ► (via 6,3mm male to male cable) SPLITTER ► Headphones

I just am not entirely sure if this will work well. Audio is complicated..
I am absolutely not an expert.

---

#2

I also found this device which seems to have an Amplifier build in it. So you don't have to use the AMP at all, then you have 2 options, skip the external DAC completely and go directly from your PC audio (3,5mm jack) to the splitter (6,5mm jack). This way you use the motherboard it's on-board DAC to create the audio. It get's amplified by the device and puts out the sound to the headphones.

PC ► AMP Splitter box ► Headphones

---

#3

Or go from the PC to the external DAC and then go from the RCA connectors to the audio splitter. With this cable. Think that this is a bit cleaner in terms of audio..

PC ► DAC ► AMP Splitter box ► Headphones

---

Although I would probably try the first option above first, if that does not work sufficient, then try the the other 2 options. If that doesn't work..
Then you probably have to tell me and I will need to make a (non living) sacrifice to the audio gods.

^(which means that I have to ask head-fi what the hell we have to do!)

---

I think that all 3 options should work.. But I can't say for sure in all honesty.

PS. Yes I indeed drew a picture for you, no worry.. It's absolutely not a Picasso!
You're hopefully going to find it, if you read my whole rationale!

So far I'm going to check out:

  • ES100
  • AudioQuest Dragonfly Black
  • FiiO Q1 MK II

And do you think this would be a good buy? I assume you'd get what you pay for, but I'm just wondering if even a cheaper option to get started in DAC's would make me want to go full nelson into DACs.

....and I've come unprepared. I'm looking to maybe buy some M50x's or something. I honestly get in here, start reading and end up overwhelmed. Sorry if it seems I'm piggybacking your thread, but it started as a question and has ended up here ha. So any suggestions for entry level headphones?
u/glenbot · 1 pointr/ElgatoGaming

I don’t know much about console because I’m mostly a PC gamer but I would try the following things:

  1. Get a high quality HDMI cable or just a different one and see if you still have issues.

  2. Use the headphone jack on the console and split the audio — one to your PC and one to your headphones. If you use this method you might need a DAC to amplify the signal before the split. I’ve also found the line splitter sometimes cause noise so you can get a ground loop eliminator.

I would have suggested you switch from on board sound or update your sound drivers but your on a console.

Here’s the splitters, cables, and ground loop eliminator I use:

Splitter - KabelDirekt Pro Series Y Stereo Splitter - 1 x 3.5mm Male to 2 x 3.5mm Female - Y Cable Splitter Produces Equal Audio Output for Headphones, Earphones, and Speakers (0.5ft, Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GN76HAG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fWcxCbK4KWTBN

    3.5 to 3.5 - KabelDirekt Pro Series 10 feet ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DI88X32?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

    GL Eliminator - PAC SNI-1/3.5 3.5-mm Ground Loop... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EAQTRI?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This setup works for me because I use a sound blaster AE5 and the headphone jack already has an amp in it.

You might try something like this:

    Behringer Microamp HA400 Ultra-Compact 4-Channel Stereo Headphone Amplifier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KIPT30/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_t0cxCbPH562B6

So hook up from headphone console output to 4 channel stereo amp input. Then. One out cable to headphone and the other cable to LINE IN on PC and then separate the audio from elgato in OBS

  • good luck, let me know if you have any questions. I’m not a super expert but was able to self resolve most of my audio issues. In my case the skipping was because my PC built in audio sucked and once I switched to a sound blast AE-5 my issues started to disappear. I know that’s not possible on console :/

Don't know if this will apply to your needs/budget/expertise, but here's how I record Culture Vultures Radio. (Add a dot com to that to find our site.)

  • Mics are Audio-Technica AT2020USB which is a large diaphragm condenser which don't require a mixer and phantom power. They're about $130 at Amazon.
  • Using a mid-2009 model MacBook Pro which I've upgraded to 8GB RAM and an SSD. Have used Yosemite and Mavericks.
  • A Behringer headphone amp/splitter to convert the one output from the MBP to 4 headsets.
  • Using Reaper DAW to record. I couldn't figure out GarageBand to save my life for some reason, so I started using the recording software I already had a license for.
  • Pop filters! These are generic cheapo units (~$6.50) and they work fine. My co-host used to like to blow the mics by doing the Stewie on Family Guy "Wil Wheaton" thing and it totally blocks that.

The tricky part was setting up the aggregate audio device to pipe in the mics into Reaper. It's funky and it took me a couple of hours to get two freaking mics working - haven't tried a third yet - but it worked out.

To save space on the HD, I set up Reaper to print the tracks as MP3s at 192kbps instead of WAVs. I apply compression and limiting when I record to get a nice solid level. When I'm done, I transfer the project folder to my bruiser of a gaming PC and apply an expander to the tracks to minimize mic bleed and background noise like fans or furnace/AC (we record in a basement). On mixdown, I hit the music track and the overall mix with master bus compression to make it nice and full-sounding with even levels.

It's a slightly involved process to do, but I think the results and quality control are worth it. We used to go into the Internet radio station's studios to do the show live and just put the recording out as the podcast, but they tripled the studio fee and I calculated that if I bought my gear and sent them a file to air, it would pay for itself in 13-14 shows; we've done 18 so far. Bonus is that when the studio was stifling hot in the summer when the AC broke down and they've been having chronic technical problems affecting audio quality, it hasn't impacted us. We miss the live feedback from the listeners and it takes much longer to produce a show, but it's a tighter product overall.

Hope this helps someone, if not your specific needs. Cheers.

Thanks everyone for the feed back. After your suggestions I think I am going to use my Dell Inspiron to connect to the BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UMC404HD audio interface. From there connect 3
BEHRINGER ULTRAVOICE XM1800S by XLR cables. Connect BEHRINGER MICROAMP HA400 to the audio interface by TRS cable and use 1/4" to 3.5mm adaptor to connect headphones we already have. Pick up 3 inexpensive windscreens and stands. Did the pricing on amazon and it came to about $240 total, so not bad breaking it down to $80 a guy.

We did a FB live and just fed the audio from our interface headphone out (you could use a splitter, we use a headphone amp) into the smartphone mic input. Did everything else the same as usual (captured multi-track in audacity etc. for editing and later publication)

u/samdaman64 · 1 pointr/xboxone

Unfortunately, no I did not. I ended up getting a Sony SRS-X77 speaker to try and make up for it. It has a 3.5mm in, and I figured the built-in amp would be enough to make up for the volume. Unfortunately I was wrong, and it is still too quiet.

I've purchased this headphone amp to try and bump up the signal before getting to the external speaker. I don't know yet how well it works.

Incredibly frustrating that the Xbox one can't handle audio output for DVDs/Blurays though. It seems like that should be an easy fix on their part. I agree that it isn't the cables but must be the apps.

u/iamtherealdylan · 1 pointr/DIY

There are definitely splitters like that. A quick google search and I found this. It's not portable, but I'd be willing to bed someone makes something like it that's portable. It would be just like my amps, except with two separate outputs, each volume adjustable

Do you have an amp? You can set up your guitar to go through both the amp and the game using a headphone amplifider or a a female Y cable

I personally use the headphone amplifier setup and turn down the volume on my guitar in the game to 80, the music to 90 and crank up my amp on clean to actually hear what I'm playing ;)

I have a Behringer HA400 Amp and a Neoteck Dac. Can anyone inform me of how it would be properly setup to get audio out from the headphone inputs of the amp?

I connected the SPDIF cable from my soundcard to the optical input of the DAC then a 3.5mm cable to 6.3mm cable from the dac to amp but I'm not getting any audio. Am I doing it wrong or is the equipment not compatible? Thanks

Here's what I use. Not nearly the best, but it's manageable for the average Joe or group.

Current

  • Streaming: OBS Studio (Win 0.14.x)
  • Overlay: HTML/Javascript w/ StreamControl writing data to JSON and JS polling it.
  • Capture Device: Startech USB3HDCAP + XRGB-mini Framemeister
  • WebCams: 2x Logitech C920
  • Audio Mixer: Mackie Mix 8
  • Headsets: 2x Audio-Technica BPHS1
  • Misc: Powered Composite Splitter, Behringer HA400 Headphone Amp
  • Stream Tools: Nightbot, TwitchAlerts

    Deprecated

  • Capture Device: Dazzle DVC 100

BPHS1s are kind of the standard for accessible and reasonably priced xlr headsets.

I was getting decent quality out of my old dazzle before I switched, people just need to learn how to setup their bitrate properly to reduce artifacts and how to deinterlace their capture via amarectv or using the built in obs plugins (I used yadifx4 for the longest time) which do a nice, respectable job. Would I recommend a dazzle? Eh, it produces decent video for the price (got mine on ebay for $20), but has some compatibility issues - if you do a quick search for audio issues with the dazzle you'll find a couple threads. There are workarounds, but it's finicky.

Ideally though, streams should be capturing component video. It removes the need for software/external hardware deinterlacing. The issue here is that you either need a TV that supports component, or a component->composite converter, which I've seen people have performance issues with in the past.
My current setup uses a Framemeister to upscale the composite signal and handle the deinterlacing, outputting HDMI to the USB3HDCAP. The advantage is that I get to feed straight composite signals to any plain old CRT, which is great because I've been recording out of a suitcase the last few months while I move around.

I build my overlays in JavaScript and HTML; there's a layer of logic that polls a local JSON file written by StreamControl for changes and updates them on the page.

Just taking off on a flight. More info later. (It's later)

I'm a drummer looking for a small, cheap, simple way of monitoring my band's various inputs by headphone. There are four different 1/4" outputs that I would like to listen to and have control over the volume of each. Mono would be fine and quality doesn't have to be anything special, just enough to follow things in time. A compact powered mixer would do the trick but I'm on a budget and would like to ideally spend no more than ~$20.

My questions is, could something like this or this be able to operate in reverse, such that I can plug our four channels into each headphone jack and have the "input" feed out to my headphones to sum the signals?

u/RedPillington · 1 pointr/gadgets

what you want is a headphone preamp. those RCA outs aren't designed to drive headphones anyway. find a preamp with reviews you're happy with. ideally, it would have RCA ins, but you could get it with an 1/8" or 1/4" and get an adapter.

Audio Amplifier.

If you care about audio-quality, you should go to Headphone specialists or some "Audiophile" place.

u/Naaackers · 0 pointsr/Twitch

You should be plugging your headphones into the PC audio out, not the microphone. Use 3.5mm aux splitter or even better a headphone amp to properly split the signals for your headphones.

The headphone amp is 1/4" and not 3.5mm (what your earbuds are) so you'd also need two 3.5mm to 1/4" adapters to work.

  1. No, these headphones are definitely quiet by gaming headset standards, way quieter than the 3 headsets i've had before these. They're like 60% volume of my previous steelseries and logitech headset.
  2. Since i get the same volume on my PC, laptop and phone, i doubt this is the case... I wonder if it could be a driver issue? I just searched for realtek high definition audio driver on windows and it's downloading a driver, i'll test this
  3. I really don't know man, half the people i've asked tell me an amp would do nothing for me and others say it's the only way. These headphones should be louder than they are and it's just odd to me, i'm not sure if this is what people expect when buying high quality headphones, the volume isn't high enough to be immersive, i don't feel the sound "flow over me" if i was to picture it for you, it's just not what i expected given these headphones are so highly reviewed. Sound is good but the volume is just dissapointing.

Now that you mentioned i tried turning it off and there is distortion/noise to some degree. Could it be that my PC's motherboard isn't compatible with this headset somehow? Pardon me if i sound dumb, but could it be my PC should be powering these way more than they are but in reality they only power as much as a laptop or phone would? Maybe i need a soundcard?

I just checked the instruction manual and it seemed to assume you were going to plug it into a headphone amplifier or mixer: https://imgur.com/rxZ5Gdo
