1440 is fine and will look sharp but why not get 4K to utilize the native res cause hdr is out of the picture anyways for monitors price wise (pending on sales).

Here actually a decent monitor for sale
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078HWN5CX/?ref=r4m_udw_co_c_md&th=1&psc=1

27 inch is my sweet spot but it varies per user. No benefits of vsync or gsync, low ms is good. TN panels are the fastest response but also have some of the poorest colors. Anything over 60hz is usesless. Curved or ultra wide is useless because the x doesn’t output 21:9 ratio so it’ll have bars or stretch and look bad. Benq is what people use for a lot of competitions but the panels appear washed color wise a lot of the times cause of TN/matte screen.

Unless someone talks me out of it or shows me a better deal, I'm going in. Only think I can find relative to this is a Benq monitor for $500 on Amazon.

u/ScootyPuffJunior · 3 pointsr/PS4Pro

Bought this one . I’m enjoying it so far and have had no issues.

Off-topic sorry, but about your monitor choice.

I was planning into getting this one:

Wondering if worth extra 200 CAD in yours.

Simply based on the results over on displaylag.com (select 4k UHD under Resolution and then sort by input lag):

BenQ EL2870U: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HWN5CX/

Asus MG279Q: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DHS30OE/

The BenQ is probably your best bet, as it's a very recent model with great specs although it uses a TN panel, meaning it won't have great viewing angles (shouldn't matter if you're the only one playing it). However, the Asus uses an IPS panel (great viewing angles, more vibrant image) but has been on the market for a few years now. On a personal level, I'd go with the Asus but only because I love Asus products and the fact that the screen can be rotated 90 degrees (which makes for AMAZING retro vertical shooter gameplay).

EDIT: Sorry, the Asus is actually just a 2k monitor, not 4k. Go with the BenQ!

u/standtallnofall · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The 970 gpu will get you juice for 4K but not really enough to be overly concerned about makes and models of monitors. Any 4K monitor will get you what you're looking for. I'd just find a budget one and save the money towards new pc parts.

So I've been doing research for a similar monitor with a similar price range. Bottom line is you're not gonna get a "real" hdr monitor for under 500 right now. Just the psuedo ones. Anyway here are some monitors I've been keeping my eye on.

Dell U2718Q ($460 on us amazon)

BenQ EL2870U ($490)

LG 27UK650-W ($549)

The last one is a little over your budget but it's the one i'm most interested in. wish rtings.com would review it.

I'm not aware of any games on the pro running over 60fps but I could be wrong.

Another thing to consider that I didn't factor into the selection above is HDR. Dunno if Rocket League supports it but assuming you're tempted to check out a game that does have it, you'll regret not getting a display that supports it.

This BenQ display is worth consideration:

If you want to do more homework before committing to one, the website http://www.rtings.com is one of the most comprehensive display review sites I've seen.

Yes, there is a big difference.

I bought an Xbox One X and used my bro's spare 1080p monitor before deciding to get a 4k monitor, since it's a 4k xbox..

DO IT!!! You'll thank me later. Best decision ever!! HUGE improvement in picture quality and worth the $397 I spent on it. Very happy with mine, it's a 28" Ben Q.. With that said, I recommend it, did a bunch of research prior to purchasing..

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EL2870U-Anti-glare-Brightness-Intelligence/dp/B078HWN5CX

Be sure to change the output to 4k in Xbox settings!

u/CRYPTOYALTY · 2 pointsr/playrust

These are some good questions! The refresh rate for a TV is far less than something you would want for mouse and keyboard gameplay.

I'm going to be honest with you, razer peripherals are not the way to go and reviews will show you this. If you want quality gaming stuff I will link it below:

It's perfect for the Xbox X.

u/Razmatti · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I really don't understand the confusion here. This is not the monitor you would choose. If you had the cash equivalent of the monitor, you would 100% buy something else. Why keep it, then? Get the money and buy something you actually want.

> but it's nice and free

No, it costs however much money you could get instead. You're literally buying this monitor for however much money you would get if you returned it. It's a $400+ monitor. That's how much it costs you.

u/Dant2142 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Ok, so here are the only real choices that exist right now, as far as I can tell.

LG 27UK650-W (https://www.amazon.com/LG-27UK650-W-Monitor-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B078GRM2MV)--This supports HDR, and Freesync over HDMI, but is an IPS-type panel, so by its nature its response time will be higher than 1ms. There's another caveat too: Because its not Freesync 2, you have to choose between HDR and Freesync at any given time, you can't have both at once.

BenQ EL2870U (https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EL2870U-3840x2160-Brightness-Intelligence/dp/B078HWN5CX) This is about the only TN-Type HDR monitor I know of, so you get 1ms response time, but I can't find affirmative evidence that this will support Freesync over HDMI, and even if it did, it has the above monitor's problem of seeming being only Freesync 1, so you'd still have to choose between Freesync and HDR.

Samsung C27HG70 (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LC27HG70QQNXZA-C27HG70-27-Inch-Monitor/dp/B06XSQ5QN8) There's also a 32" version of this---This looks like the only Freesync 2 monitor on the market right now, so you get HDR and Freesync at the same time. The catch is that its not 4K, only 2560x1440. The panel response isn't quite 1ms, being a VA-Type panel, but its pretty close, and you'll have to do a firmware update on the monitor before the Freesync will be actually useful (out of the box Freesync range is 72-144hz, so useless for an Xbox. The update drops the minimum to 48hz). It also has not so great reviews, mentioning things about flickering in the lower Freesync range, so, consider this one with caution.

And that's it. Sadly, there's a consistent reality that monitors and their production are at least a year behind available technology for whatever reason.

I was recently looking around for a new monitor, and the only one I know of that matches your budget is the BenQ EL2870U. There might be others, not sure.

Regardless, just keep in mind with monitors that HDR is still a fairly new/expensive tech; it'll take a little while for support/prices to get better.

As a side note, because of what I just said above, I avoided HDR and got a QLED monitor instead (Samsung U32H850). Pretty happy with my choice.

I'm also looking at a few different options and have come down to a few. Any feedback on these is much appreciated because it's been mainly solo research into new territory for me lol.

  1. LG 27UK850-W 27" 4K UHD IPS Monitor with HDR10 with USB Type-C Connectivity and FreeSync. This one is the most expensive of the three I've looked at. I'm mainly looking at it for the USB C port on the back because I'm going to be getting a new Macbook soon so it'd be good to be able to charge it right from there.

  2. BenQ 28 inch 4K HDR10 Monitor (EL2870U), UHD 3840x2160, FreeSync, 1ms Response Time, Eye-Care, Brightness Intelligence Plus, HDMI, DP, Built-in Speakers. This one is my favorite, but it is sold out nearly everywhere. This has had a lot of great reviews and is not at a killer price point.

  3. ASUS VP28UQG 28" 4K/UHD 3840x2160 1ms DP HDMI Adaptive Sync/FreeSync Eye Care Monitor. This is the fan favorite from most articles because of the price point, but I believe it doesn't have HDR.

Ultimately, you're going to have to figure out what's best for you and what you are most interested in, but those are the three I have my eyes on.

Any TN panel gaming monitor will do, Freesync lowers input lag so you will want that enabled, though the range of the displays below are only 40-60Hz so really just 60fps multiplayer games will get the benefit but the major PvP titles are 60fps.

Im not suggesting downgrading, just saying there may be something with the same specs minus the 144hz for a better price.

EDIT

I realize its currently out of stock, but for a very similar price: BenQ 4K, HDR, Freesync, 1ms response. (This was like 30 seoconds of searching so I don't know if its any good, just an example that there may be alternative options available.)
