You can take off the built-in headphones, they just screw in. I'll be taking mine off because the built-ins are worse than I expected. These are my headphones, for reference.

Here's the review of the case I released a couple of days ago
u/Probably_Unicorn · 6 pointsr/headphones

IMO, the DT990 is much better for games. The wide soundstage (even though it has its uses in competitive gaming) is pretty awesome to have to play games with. It has that 'wider' 3D effect. It also slightly exaggerated lows and highs so you get more out of the sub-bass and it has a fun rumbling effect. (Granted, it isn't overwhelming and even for music if it wasn't meant to be prominent, the bass isn't obnoxious.)

The DT880 is 'better' for music. It's more neutral and if you're really wanting it for music it's the better choice. (Assuming you like an accurate, clinical sound.) The soundstage is different since it's only semi-open and isn't as wide.

And if you want more clamp force, look into the 'Pro' models. They have better clamp force from what other people have reported. (Which both the 880 and 990's pros are 250 ohm) Plus, if you can get them on Amazon, they're around $150.

Since they're only 250 ohm, you can drive them with your computer. My Nexus 5 can also drive them just fine. There is some very very very subtle distortion when you run them unamped. (Only for certain frequencies, generally vocals at some peaks and some sub-bass) It also depends on how well a song is mixed. I haven't noticed it in a game yet.

u/obamaluvr · 5 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

Turtle beaches are among the worst crap you can buy.

If you want to really drop a decent amount, you can buy some pretty good audiophile headphones for a bit over $200. You'll need to get a separate microphone then, but that is a very good option for music and gaming.

Something like the dt990-pro, q701, or HD598

u/xgunnerx · 5 pointsr/Austin

The kind folks at /r/headphones would be of some help here.

If you're really serious about having an amazing audio experience, I'd recommend a schiit stack (magni/modi 2) amp/dac combo along side a Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro. It's a great starter combo and you'll be amazed at the sound production. Great for gaming too. I've had mine for 2 years and love it.

u/TheXecuter · 5 pointsr/headphones

I'd recommend the dt990 pros, great for metal. These are extremely comfortable headphones. The pro's do benefit from an amp you could get away with something like the bravo v2 (this isn't a true tube amp) but will drive these headphones very well for the $$.

u/Embern54 · 4 pointsr/LearnCSGO

I mean, you would definitely be able to tell left and right, but other more specific directions such as 5m away on the right side of connector? Definitely not.

I would recommend getting some high quality headsets such as the Philips Fidelio X2HR or the DT 990 PRO .

Both are extremely high quality and you would easily be able to tell exactly where sounds are coming from. Also, for the price of around £120 they will sound better than any £200-500 speakers you can find.

Tl:dr Yes, you could tell left from right, but not anything specific. Getting a good pair of headphones is recommended.

u/LosdaVS · 4 pointsr/MillerPlanetside

Using these since 2009 and they not only sound superior compared to any "gamer-headset" but also will NOT brake. after 6 years my cans are still like new. they are comfortable for hours, have an incredible soundstage, every single part of it can be replaced if ever needed. the head-band is made of feather-steel, the mounting of the cans are steel, you really only can brake them with force on purpose.

there is one thing though, it has open cans, you hear things from outside very easily. if you prefer a more isolated sound, get these. same headphones, but closed design, the soundstage is a bit smaller and have a bit more emphasis on bass than the 990PRO, but having 80ohm you can drive them on your smartphone also.

the pricing on both of them should fit your budget.

edit: has no mic, but you're using a blueyeti anyway. also 6.3mm and 3.5mm audio-jack.

u/colonelmustard32 · 4 pointsr/headphones

This might interest you $100 cheaper:
http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-AMS-DT-990-Pro-250-Professional-Acoustically-Applications/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381350067&sr=8-1&keywords=dt990+pro

I'm not entire sure what the difference between the premium or the Pro version. I have this exact model and I have been quite pleased with it.

u/techknowledger · 4 pointsr/lgg7

I prefer circumaural headphones -- completely cover your ears headphones. Higher ohm headphones take more power to push but filter interference better -- the higher the impedance, the lower the volume, however. This phone has no problem pushing up to 250 ohm headphones and all four DACs will operate with this impedance. I would recommend these:

https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-Over-Ear-Studio-Headphones-construction/dp/B0011UB9CQ

They offer the best bang for the buck, IMHO, and are the lightest and most comfortable quality headphones I have had.

I also don't like noise cancelling headphones as they change the sound, IMO.

I am no audiophile, however, so I would recommend you visit head-fi.org and see what they are now recommending. I just know what works for me.

Here's a link to a post you may find interesting with a comment that I wrote containing more links:

https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg7/comments/cwt6aw/an_old_rumor_on_quad_dac/

Good luck!

edit: I see someone has posted before me and he offers good advice. You should try them before buying them or be able to return them without a restocking fee if you don't like them. I can only say what I like and that may not be your cup of tea.

edit 2: I prefer open headphones which leak a LOT of sound for others to hear but sound much better. If you are planning on travelling with your new headphones, you should probably get a closed version. The beyerdynamic DT 770 PROs are really good for that.

u/123kyran123 · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Blue snowball is certainly the best for good recording, while the Samson Meteor is great too. Usually the Samson is a lot cheaper than the blue snowball, but seems like it's not the case here.

Go with the Blue snowball. It'll last you a long while for sure!

Another thing, why would you get an headset if you already are using an Mic? That is now-a-days the only benefit over an headphone.

Headphones have overall much better specifications for better prices. Here are a few to check out:

  • Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro. It's a great headphone for gaming. It has an open back, which gives you a much better soundstage, which you want for gaming.

  • Audio Technica ATH-M50(X) is another good option although it is more of a bassy headphone. So hearing clear footsteps will be harder, but listening music on this thing is a lot more enjoyable for sure.

  • Takstar HI 2050. this is not a known headphone and I haven't personally used this headphone. But seeing from specs and topics from other poeple this headphone has very clear and detailed tones with a decent soundstage, which makes it a good choice for gaming. Not so much for music.

  • AKG K240. Is another decent option although the more expensive K550 would be more enjoyable to listen to.
u/classyjoe · 3 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

exactly this.

I might also add that it might be worthwhile looking into other options, since there's a lot of different headphones out there for varying tastes (like those people who are looking for more palpable bass sensation than what the Sennheiser models offer for example this headphone currently on sale. Most of the headphones that are considered comparable will be a little more expensive from what I've been able to find). No doubt in any case though that these are great deals on great headphones

u/Crimtide · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 Ohm

I had once wanted wireless headphones too.. but quickly realized how terrible they are in comparison to the opposite.. especially for something I love doing, for long hours, all the time.. gaming... I wore Sennheiser headphones with a long 10 ft cable for 7 years.. I got tired of it getting caught and tangled and whatever.. Bought and returned 6 or 7 different wireless headsets/phones. Settled on a coiled cable headphone. The Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 Ohm. This is the only thing in your price range I would ever substitute for over my previous modded Sennheiser headphones. You will need an amp to drive these. If you have a headphone amp, these are great. Most modern motherboards are amped.

The reason I went with a coiled cable is because it doesn't tangle, it doesn't pull.. it just chills.. I ran an extension behind my desk and up the back side.. and the coil just lays on my desk top.. it's tense enough to not let it fall down my side, or off the desk.. but it doesn't tug at all.. I don't think I will ever buy anything else. If/when these die, I will buy another pair.

An added note.. if you end up researching these, and liking them, I changed my stock earpads out for these Brainwavz ear pads. They changed the sound profile a bit, added a bit more bass, and are more comfortable in my opinion.

u/japaul32 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I would recommend a pair of HD 598's and a headphone amp. Or the AKG k701/q701.

I own the HD558, and Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, and I use them in conjuction with a Schiit Magni. My favourite for comfort and overall audio quality is the HD558. If I want some more bass in my music I switch to the DT770 Pro.

Take a look at this

Edit: I'm assuming you're using onboard audio. If so, take a look at a amp/dac combo like this

Edit2: You guys in the UK get some great prices. Here's the DT990 Pro. Definitely want to get a headphone amp with this guy.

u/OverExclamated · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Prices are kind of up across the board for headphones, but not dramatically.

BD DT880 or DT990 You'll hear about the 990's more often, but many also agree that the 880's are the star of that lineup; certainly the best all-rounder. If you decide to go with the 990's for the sharp highs for gaming, nobody's going to fault you.

AT AD900x

Fidelio L2 Often overlooked. The big brother X2's are getting hard to find under $200, but, if I spot some, I'll add them in with an edit.

u/DamnationSC · 3 pointsr/melodicdeathmetal

I use a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250ohms coupled with Schiit Magni and Modi for my headphone amp and digital/analog converter combo. The magni/modi combo is great for flat sound i.e doesn't add any extra sound qualities in the conversion or amplification (pro for some, con for others) and they power the 250ohm version of the DT-990 pros wonderfully. The DT-990 pros themselves are great metal headphones in my opinion. First off, they are the most comfortable headphones I've ever put on, I've worn them 8 hours a day for the past 2 months and sometimes forget they're even on. The soft velour earpads are fucking superb. Sound quality wise they're amazing as well. Massive soundstage, when I got them one of the first songs I played was Inside the Particle Storm- Dark Tranquillity and I was motherfucking blown away, and it doesn't hurt that they're good for FPS gaming as well. Amazing, punchy bass, but not overdone at all like you find in some DJ headphones. Good mids and nice highs. Some people find the treble on the dt-990s to be fatiguing but I've yet to come across that and even if I did I could get rid of the problem through the equalizer.

u/wewladendmylife · 3 pointsr/SiegeAcademy

I use a pair of DT990 pro headphones and attached one of these magnetic microphones.

I'd pick up a pair of over-ear headphones if you see one in your price range. If you need a mic you can pick up a lapel microphone for pretty cheap. I just find that most gaming headsets are overpriced for the sound quality.

u/AdoreShitYuki · 3 pointsr/audiophile

As someone with an average, maybe slightly more so, sized head, I recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro's. There are enough reviews on these to vouch for how well these sound, so I'll just comment on its comfort: It's like having a pillow fastened to my head, just look at those large comfy velour earpads. I can easily wear these for hours at a time without issue. They're relatively inexpensive too :)

u/shitty_hdr · 3 pointsr/apple

Don't downvote this person. I bought for the first time "real" headphones. Beyerdynamic DT990 and now I can't listen to anything with lower quality. The number times I bought Porta Pro (they are great by the way) and other low priced headphones, I could have bought one good ones.

I recommend to buy something good right away instead of buying in small increments bad ones.

Edit. Don't become a full audiophile :) It's not cheap. Beyerdynamic DT990 was/is half the price when I bought them.

u/Festus_Clwnkilr_Krex · 3 pointsr/headphones

So i'm burning out from research, so hopefully you guys can help me out with my question.

I'm getting a Fiio e17 for christmas and a new set of cans.

I've narrowed it down to either Grado 225e
or Beyerdynamic DT-880s 250 ohm

my quandary is whether to go with the grados which are 32 ohm or the beyerdynamics which are 250 ohm.
I'll be using them with the fiio amp linked above. Will the fiio even improve the grados since they have such a low impedence?

u/PostalFury · 3 pointsr/lgv20

Personally, if you're wanting to get some solid cans, you can't go wrong with the HD 598s from Sennheiser or the DT 990 Pro from Beyerdynamic. Both sound fantastic on the V20, and have solid build quality.

r/headphones is a step in the right direction if you'd like to know more!

u/alligatorbilly · 3 pointsr/lgv20

After you find some earbuds, look at getting some cans. These are amazing on my V20. DT990 by Beyerdynamic. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_yuFWBb8Y22TER

u/PixelPhoenix · 3 pointsr/battlestations

I personally use Beyerdynamic DT990s 250hm along with a FIIO E10k amplifier but if you're looking for something a little cheaper then I would recommend that you look at Sennheisers HD series such as the 518s or the 558s. Check out /r/headphones they will also have some more recommendations over there.

u/BananasApeUnicorn · 3 pointsr/headphones

It appears you left a mobile link, here is the full site.

Here is the price history of the Beyer DT990. This is sort of a normal price, only $10 below average.

u/Gerarddp · 3 pointsr/headphones

I'm looking to buy one of the following:

  • Astro A40
  • Sennheiser PC 360
  • Sennheiser HD 558
  • Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro

With an Asus Xonar Dg Pci.

My priority is comfort, I want ones that don't press against the ears and don't get them warm. Mic is not a priority (I have a clip mic), but if two of them are equaled I'll get the ones with a mic.

I listen mostly to electronic music.
u/MareDoVVell · 3 pointsr/headphones

The Pro, from everything I've read, only has the downsides of being 250 Ohm(though there is a premium version that is 250 Ohm) and having a less comfortable, tighter fit(apparently for DJ'ing). Otherwise they are supposedly the same as all the other versions. I'm absolutely in love with mine and only spent $164 for them new on Amazon

u/H4CK3R314 · 3 pointsr/headphones

Check on ebay or craigslist for some second hand gear, always a great way to start. I just picked these up, they're super comfortable for long use and sound great, maybe a bit too much on the low-end, but nothing a simple EQ can't fix. The Sennheiser HD 598's are also fantastic. Amazon is also having a sale on headphones right now, so you can dig through that a bit too. I would also try to test your tracks on as many systems as possible, and put an EQ on your headphones to try and get them to match the sound you are looking for

u/Suicidal360Flip · 3 pointsr/headphones

Amazon, and they are still being sold for that price.

u/SethingtonMoss · 2 pointsr/headphones

I dont know much when it comes to finding the best headset, or higher level audio for that matter. Im on the fence between the Beyerdynamic DT-990-Pro and the Sennheiser 598. I can read specs but I dont really know what it all means. If someone could point me towards the better headphone thatd be awesome but if someone could do that and tell me why, thatd be even better!

u/Matthieu101 · 2 pointsr/headphones

Oh I would definitely prefer an open set. I need them to be quiet-er, not completely silent.

And all of the advantages of an open pair seems to be pretty huge.

I do want to have these ordered very soon, so the AD700's are looking to be the best bet, even with such weak bass.

I think it's weird that when I jumped up to the price range of 150+, I found some great headphones but they all needed an amp of some kind, which would drive the price even higher.

Mad Lust Envy says for the Beyerdynamic DT 770's, 880's, 990's that they absolutely require an amp to sound great. And maybe I'd be willing to drum up just that little extra bit of cash to pick one of those up, but without an amp it seems to hurt it quite a bit.

Maybe for now I could use these, as they have better bass, and then pick up an amp later down the road? This may be the best overall option for the long term investment (Going from normal speakers to a good set of headphones was a gamechanger). Sounds like it has a very great bass, but not too overpowering.

Really, thanks for all the help. I know I ask a lot of questions, but I am very careful about how I spend my money so I want to be as detailed as possible.

Here's the first item on your list.

In the US, I'm told it's $184.99 or $332.22 (two different versions), shipped from an Amazon warehouse. The "250 OHM" version is listed as "in stock." The 8.5"Lx7"Wx4"H version is listed as "Only 7 left in stock."

If you want to pursue good audio I recommended the PreSonus Eris 3.5, they are good budget studio monitors. For headphones, I would recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohm version. These are very good headphones for the price. Then I would pair the Beyerdynamic headphones with a good Audio Interface like Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd Gen) it's a good budget audio interface that doesn't break the bank. For a microphone, a Blue Yeti USB mic will do well. However, if you want an XLR microphone, which is better btw. A well-rounded XLR microphone is the Audio-Tecnica AT2020.

Get a DT990 and a DAC X6; that will set you back ~210EUR.

Maybe you can find a cheaper price for the DT990 on thomann.de or other musician's grar website in GER.

u/mrbaritonefreak · 2 pointsr/lapfoxtrax

I'm not a total expert but this is what I would recommend.

Headphones:

Cheap and good for noisy-ish environments - Status audio CB-1 $79

If you live in a noisy environment, These will give you the best reaults. A lot of getting the most our of this album is isolation. Direct Sound EX-29 $107

Super good closed backed headphones, but impedance is very high - Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro $160

Very good open backed headphones, impedance is relatively low -

Audio Technica ATH-AD700x $109

Super good open backed headphones, but they have a very high impedance - Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro $179

Amps/DACS:

Honestly this is where I personally would spend most of your money, any really good pair of open backed headphones are going to make albums like phwoa sound amazing with the wide sounds stage but a good amp and DAC will make a world of difference. For the price the Mayflower electronics Objective2 is best bang for your buck. I' don't have a ton of experience with amps and DACs but the O2 is properly good, and for $250 you can't go wrong.

Other than that you could look into a tube style Amp but you'd need a separate DAC in most cases plus I personally don't find the tube amps to be a whole lot better unless you spend a shit ton of money on them. They do look cool as balls though.

Favorite setup: California Headphone Co. Silverdos  or Audio Technica with my LG V20 and its beastly DAC and equalizer tuning. Although I wouldn't recommend the California headphones because I personally only paid $15 for them and $200 seems a bit steep for them tbh.

Note: I've owned or at least tried everything I've listed except the CB-1 but I've heard from a lot of well respected sourced that they are pretty damn good especially for under $100

u/Rudi-Brudi · 2 pointsr/Rainbow6

PRO TIPS:
If you want the BEST SOUND for the price, DON'T buy Gaming-Headsets! They are overpriced garbage.
Buy a pair of Hi-Fi-Headphones instead and put a clip-mic on.
Look for Beyerdynamic
(http://www.amazon.de/Beyerdynamic-DT-990-PRO-250-DT-990-Pro-Kopfh%C3%B6rer/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453367729&sr=8-2&keywords=beyerdynamic),
Sennheiser

or AKG

and clip this mic on:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00029MTMQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00

If you give a shit on many useless settings in your soundcard, buy a headphone amp instead. (e.g. Fiio E10) It gives you a much much better sound for your headphones at a lower price then gaming soundcards.

Oh and you don't need surround headsets with 7.1 or soundcard settings with surround simulation. Just set it to stereo and the game will simulate the surround sound by itself. You will hear the difference!

u/HartUndSteil · 2 pointsr/headphones

Oh damn 220 really is a lot, they're like 160(€) over here, sorry for that. You didn't mention where you're from so I thought $ = US.

I own the DT990 myself (and the DT770 as well) and listen to a lot of electronic music. They're better than HD650 for that type of music and so much fun for action movies/games.

btw a combination like that (or another amp maybe) is MUCH cheaper unless you really hate using an amp

Budget: $275 CAD (non-flexible) - probably buying from amazon.ca or local shop

Audio Source: Desktop dac/amp which is plugged into desktop computer. (If it helps: my motherboard is an ASRock AB350M Pro-4)

Requirements for Isolation: None? Headphones will be used solely at home. I do have a roommate but when I'm listening to music/playing games I tend to have my door closed.

Preferred Type: Over-ear/full-sized

Preferred Tonal Balance: I enjoy bass and mids, but I don't want something that will be too bassy as to drown out the highs.

Past Headphones: Sony MDR-RF985R. I enjoyed what seemed to be a fairly neutral sound profile. Strongly disliked interference causing static because they were RF Wireless headphones. They were good when the sound was clear though (especially since I got them for only $80 CAD).

Preferred Music: Basically everything: classical (e.g. "Concertino bianco: 1. Con intenerimento) , classic rock (Pink Floyd, Rush, etc), game soundtracks, pop(?) songs such as "Primo" by RAF Camora, "Soldaten 2.0" by Kontra K.

Improvements: I would like to improve on my audio experience in general. No more static, much better sound in general, and higher quality headphone construction. I will be buying a simple dac/amp (probably Schiit Fulla 2 or FiiO K5).

So far, I'm considering either the DT 770 (Pro 80) or the DT 990 (Pro). I was looking at the Sennheiser Urbanite XL as well but I'm not too sure they fit my wants? I'm definitely open to suggestions, especially if they're cheaper!

Also, can you plug headphones with a 3.5mm connector into the 3.5mm line-out of a dac/amp which has only a 6.3mm headphone-out (like in the Schiit Fulla 2 for example)? If not, I can source an adapter so 6.3mm is not a requirement.

u/lukeman3000 · 2 pointsr/ns2

DON'T buy "surround sound headphones". Invest in a good, quality pair of stereo headphones and buy a good soundcard that emulates a 5.1 environment with either Dolby Headphone or CMSS-3D (I prefer the latter).

I own and would highly recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, but the DT 990 Pro can be had for less. The main difference is that the DT 770 is closed whereas the DT 990 is open. With a closed headphone, others will not hear sound coming out of them as easily, which is good if you like to play late at night with others in the house. an open headphone allows for a better "soundstage", which basically means that it will sound "better" (this is highly subjective). I haven't used open headphones before so I can't pass judgment, but I love my 770s. I'm still unsure as to why there's such a price difference between the two, though.

As far as sound cards go, you want something that will do "simulated surround sound". Dolby Headphone and CMSS-3D are examples of this technology. I prefer CMSS-3D over DH, having used both. For CMSS-3D, you have to buy a Creative sound card -- I recommend the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium because it can be had for relatively cheap these days. They don't make it anymore, which is why you have to buy from eBay (they sell a refurbished one on Amazon, too).

If you buy the Titanium X-Fi, get the Pax Drivers. They are MUCH better than the stock drivers and make setup a breeze in comparison.

If you decide to go this route and need any help, shoot me a message, I'd be glad to help.

u/SelfAmbition · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Yes it will be an upgrade, but as u/Camper1995 has said, don't just buy the m50x's because they are popular. And its always reccomended to get OPEN BACK headphones so long as your environment is suited to it (AKA you are in your own room, or a quiet basement. Somewhere where blenders going off and people talking wont bother you, as open back's let alot of the surrounding sound to get to your ears).

Here are a few of my suggestions:

$80 Sennheiser HD 518 amp not necessary. My friend on a budget picked these up and absolutely loves them.

$150 Sennheiser HD 598 amp not necessary. These are the ones that you see lots of streamers and youtubers use. For good reason too, they are amazing headphones, and the price isn't too bad either

$170 Beyerdynamic DT-990 amp required for the 250 ohm version that i linked, but it is also available in 32 ohm. These are known for being a bit fatiguing. They have strong bass, but also have very strong treble, meaning that it can be quite hard to listen to these for very long times. Depends on the person tho.

$200 AKG K7XX amp not necessary, but highly recommended. This is what I personally use. They have a very flat response curve, with a little bump in bass, which I really appreciate. These go for 200$ on Massdrop, so you will need to wait for them to come back into stock before picking them up. Usually once a month or more they have them on drop. There is also a black and red version that comes on at different times, so keep an eye out.

$43 TOPPING NX2 Amp + DAC Imo this is a great cheap amp + dac that will power all of the headphones listed here very well. Very small and portable, but I wouldn't buy this for a desktop AMP, its more of a portable amp for using with your phone

$120 Magni 2 Amp No DAC This is considered "The only amp you will ever need" by many. Lots also pickup the Schiit DAC to go with it

$250 Mayflower O2 Amp + DAC This is what I use personally. Its a bit pricey, but its compact, simple, and will power most pairs of headphones you throw at it, even big beefy 600+ ohm ones like the DT-990 Premium editions

If you have any questions, lemme know :)

u/DR_oberts · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

For the headphones, consider getting a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 pros and an antlion ModMic. Although that may require an amplifier, they are great headphones and don't cost much used. Also consider doing sli G1 Gaming GTX 970s instead of the 980s.

I'd recommend in that price range that you get both headphones, speakers and an external DAC and AMP.

You can get DAC and amp: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/monoprice-desktop-amp-dac for €67 and shipping

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro for €152: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT990-PRO-Headset-250/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406576575&sr=8-1&keywords=dt+990+pro

u/JuggernautOfWar · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I used to have this problem with USB powered "surround sound" "gaming" gimmicky headsets, I later found out it was caused by my graphics card of all things. The GPU fan or something was generating frequencies that just didn't get along with the USB headset. I don't know all the technical details of why this happens though. Could try changing fans and all sorts of stuff, but it'd probably just be easier to buy a 3.5mm jack powered pair of quality stereo headphones. I recommend these:

u/HunterKillerNYC · 2 pointsr/osx

My opinion is that if you want to get a little more serious about audio for your PC, you would also need to get an external DAC/AMP with SPDIF interface. There are such units out there that would connect via USB.

From here, get yourself a decent set of open back headphones... don't go cheap. Here are two models to consider.

Beyerdynamic DT990:
http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-DT-990-Pro-250-Professional-Acoustically-Applications/dp/B0011UB9CQ

Sennheiser HT650: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-9969-HD-650-Headphones/dp/B00018MSNI/

I recently got the HT650s and I love them!

Here is where the amp comes in; these headphones have higher impedance, so they need the amp to drive them, then the DAC to convert the digital audio to analog for you. For instance, the DT990 comes in a 250 ohm and 600 ohm variety, so you would look for an amp that can drive that amount accordingly.

Me personally, I went with the Fiio E17 / E09 combination, which works fine for my setup. The E17 is also portable, so I would have the option to use it on the go if needed.

u/KyleRob07 · 2 pointsr/headphones

The HD558s are a good choice, they have pretty good base and a good soundstage for the price. The AKG 612 will have a better soundstage but be lacking in the bass. Another good option could be Beyerdynamic dt990 but I only found the 250 ohm on amazon.de. I think your laptop may have trouble with them and you would probably want an amp.

u/Aegior · 2 pointsr/razer

You can probably find a pair of AKG K7XX's for $150-200, I've owned several headphones between $250-400 and the K7XX's are on par with or better than all of them.

If you want to stick to $150 budget there's also the Audio Technica m50(x) which are basically the go-to introduction to good headphones pair. I'd also recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro (Open) or 770 (Closed). I own the 990 and they might be the comfiest pair I have, closely tied with AKG K7xx.

u/nmm_Vivi · 2 pointsr/buildapc

With most motherboards these days, the built-in motherboard sound is very sufficient. It depends on what you're doing with it though; if you're wanting to power high-impedence headphones a la DT 990 Pro or something similar, you will definitely need a headphone amp. Internal sound cards are mostly a ripoff for the quality you get, but you could look at usb audio interfaces, another popular choice. The world of audio is massive and a little too intricate to get into in a single post, much less from me (very amateur), but of if you're just plugging in a 2.5mm set of 2.0 or 2.1 computer speakers, your motherboard will be fine.

I was excited when I bought Siberia gaming headset. When I plug it in and listen, its full of crap. Supposedly you can use plug it in for ps3 too with included usb device. So seeing you have a headset, the A40s. They aren't very good compared to price equivalent Of DT 990's and as well as DT 770s now I would highly suggest upgrading to a headphone and a modmic or blue yeti.

Comparisons

Headsets are generally really bad, the A40s/A50s are ok, they aren't great but not bad. What I would do is move to headphones and a modmic. People have made this switch and love it. The DT 990s are stupid comfy, same for the DT 880s and DT 770s and any Bererdynamic headphones. They are so comfy, huge pads, deep cuffs, comfy, so much.

Open vs closed back

Headsets are generally closed back, however they have some issues with that. They tend to have bad audio positioning in the headset. They don't give spacial awareness and such.

Open headphones leak sound, so people around you can hear. The drivers are directly exposed or slightly covered. However they offer a lot better experience, much larger sound stage, much better audio positioning, and everything better overall.

Mics

Now for headphones, they don't come with mics so you have a few options. You can get a Blue Yeti mic, a modmic, Audio Technica AT2020, or similar. I'll list a few

I've got a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro's I bought back in December. Very lightly used. I have the original box and 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch adapter. Will sell for $120 OBO.

Also I have a 40 inch Sceptre LCD HDTV. It's 1080p, 3 HDMI ports. The built-in speakers kinda suck, so probably want an external sound system. Check out the reviews on Newegg. I bought it for $300 back in July, used it for a couple of months, and it has been sitting in its box ever since. Apparently you can get it for $260 at Walmart so will part with it for $220 OBO.

I'm trying to get into the wonderful world of HQ sound (very entry level). After skimming through the subreddit for the past hour or so I figured I should post. Top priorities are just listening to music and gaming. I wouldn't mind buying an amp if it came to it, I would just appreciate some suggestions if the headphones should require them.

  • Budget: $100 - $150 (I would possibly go a max of 20-30 over if it's really worth it)

  • Source: Mostly sitting at my computer desk

  • Isolation: If it's there, I'll gladly take it. Not a big priority though.

  • Type: I prefer closed over anything else.

  • Balance: Overall, more balanced than anything. A little extra bass would be a big plus, but not needed.

  • Past Headphones: Nothing special, just the JVC HARX700

  • Music: Mainly a lot of metal and electronica, some post-rock, indie. Everything else isn't a main concern.

  • Location: US

I've been staring at the Beyerdynamic DT-990-Pro-250 and ATH-M50S more than anything so far. Would either of those do me fine and are they good for the price they're at now...?

DT 990 Just a reminder open will allow people around you to hear your music and outside noise in. However its better in everything else, most of the time. 250 ohms.

For anything above 62 ohms you need an amp/dac most of the time. I'll let you know when you need it. I'd get the FiiO e10k dac/amp for anything above 62. Here it is.. This adds a bit more bass but not a whole lot and also has a built in bass booster which you can turn on and off that really boosts the bass.

ATH AD900x. You will need an amp/dac as it is hard to power without it. The fiio e10k will do. This headphone is more balanced while its younger brother is more bassy.

AD700x. Need a dac/amp. It is more bassy then the 900x.

Sennheiser 558s. No dac/amp and they are basically the same as the 598s. These are neutral

Fostex t50RP mk3. No need for the dac/amp either. Now these are tiny tiny pads so you would need the Shure HPAEC1540 pads to replace it. Without it, there is almost zero padding and your ears hurt after a few minutes.

Takstar hi 2050s. They are very neutral and clear also very comfortable as they use DT pads from Beyerdyanmic. Need a dac/amp.

I'll tell you about mine...

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro

These are my 'don't want to wake the misses' headphones for when I want to listen to something but can't use the PC speakers. I keep these indoors.

They're really great - very happy with them. Good noise production across all levels and with a nice meaty bass. There are more expensive models but for the price I don't regret it at all.

And for walking around...

Betron B750s

Despite being just £11.99 these bad boys have great sounds for their size and seem very durable. They're also very compact (unlike the Beyerdynamic's) so I can stuff them in my pocket when walking to work etc.

Only difference is that the bass is a little higher on the Premiums from what I've read and they are very slightly less clamping.

I think you're over estimating how much room a desk mic takes up.

I have an admittedly pricey conference room mic that sits in the base on my monitor. My mic doesn't take up any additional room that wasn't already taken and it basically completely disappears. I have never once worried about its positioning or had pick up issues.

Here's the one I have:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TGTDFM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought it in February of 2014 so it's 3 years old now and showing exactly 0 signs of age. Since it sits up at my monitor it also doesn't contribute to my cable mess on the desk, only behind which doesn't matter.

And I also have a set of Beyerdynamic DT990s that I bought in March of 2011.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011UB9CQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1#nav-search-keywords

So they're running 6 years old now. They aren't showing 0 signs of wear after 2 moves and several trips to quakecon but they still work just fine and are in great shape, no need to replace them at all. I did anyway at home but still use them at work. Spent 30 bucks and got a new set of ear pads and they feel like new again.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_0_16?k=beyerdynamic+ear+pads&sprefix=beyerdynamic+ear

So between the two I've spent 300 dollars over the course of 6 years and both parts are still going strong. Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.

Having a solid desktop mic means you can get whatever set of headphones your want without being limited to shitty gaming headsets.

  • Budget - Max around $240 - prefer to stick lower but if there are substantial gains from spending the full amount it's fine.
  • Source - 95% of the time these will be used at my computer.
  • Isolation - won't be a problem - maybe a fan in the background sometimes.
  • I'll very rarely use these in public.
  • Preferred Type of Headphones - I prefer full-sized/over ear headphones.
  • Tonal Balance - I like snappy bass but listen to a variety of music and also use headphones to watch movies.
  • Past Headphones - Using my garbage Corsair 1500 gaming headset. Even without the crappy quality of these headphones, they have serious compatibility problems with Windows 10. Comfortable volume level is at like 4%. Sucks. I've heard some old Bose headphones a long time ago and loved the punchy bass and felt like I could hear more of the music being played. Without a model I'm not sure how much that will help you.
  • Preferred Music - Like I said before, this really varies. Stuff like Daft Punk, Emancipator, Dire Straights, Rage Against the Machine, Ice Cube, MF Doom, Rx Bandits, Cage the Elephant, Streetlight Manifesto.
  • **I want to get some more bass and hear more of the mids in my music from a new set of headphones.

The two set ups I've been looking at are:

  1. Beyerdynamic DT-990-Pro-250 as well as a FiiO E10k. - Since these need more than what my PC can give it I'll have to spend the extra money on an amp/DAC combo. Since they're open I'll occasionally have to switch to my old headphones if my music is bothering others in the room. I'm alone in my office 80% of the time so this wouldn't be the end of the world.

  2. AKG K550 - I'd be spending a little more on the headphones up front but wouldn't need to purchase an amp/DAC right away to use these.

    Thoughts?
u/Nobody_of_Sora · 1 pointr/headphones

Trying to decide between two headphones:

DT990 http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-DT-990-Pro-250-Professional-Acoustically-Applications/dp/B0011UB9CQ

HD 558 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-558-Headphones/dp/B004FEEY9A/ref=pd_cp_e_1

I'm not really going to be doing much listening to music, I primarily will be using these for watching TV shows and movies. I'm upgrading from the Sony MDRV6. Just wanting to know whether the extra $70 for the DT990 is worth it or if I should go for the 558.

Also, what is the difference between DT990 Pro 250 ohm and DT990 premium 250 ohm?

Thank you!

250ohms. I think it's a very fair trade. In fact, doing some research, it seems that my headphones are actually priced a bit higher. Your Mobo+CPU would sell for about $150-$160. These headphones new sealed (as mine are) are $180-$190

I bumped it up a little to do a little future proofing. This should be able to handle everything you need; games at 4k Ultra Settings @60+fps and some busy FL Studio files. If you wanted to come in cheaper, I would search for a different monitor (unless you are committed to 4k, you could easily save $200 here to just go with 1080p), drop to 2x4GB RAM instead of 2x8GB (If you have LARGE files on FL Studio, you MIGHT need 16GB; dropping would save around $60), and you could probably even get away with the 2GB 1050 instead of the 4GB (would save you $50).

As for the keyboard/mice/speakers. I'm a snob about speakers and don't care for mice and keyboards. I would rather do some nice headphones and cheaper/basic mice/keyboard.

# EDIT:

I double backed, removed the peripherals and doubled down on some other things. If you truly want a machine that works for both, I would recommend adding some nice Studio Monitors, Open Back Headphones, a Mechanical Keyboard, and then a basic mouse with a few bells and whistles.

I really like this combo Ryzen + Mobo. There is also a Ryzen 2700 variant too if you do want to go all the way with the CPU. Again I'll say you could do 2x4GB RAM and not notice any issues.

I've been DJing for a few years now and I've had a pair of Pioneer HDJ-1000s for this. Lately, I've starting to produce dance music on ableton 9 (mostly techno and some house) and I've become very aware of my need for monitors or studio headphones for the mixdown/mastering process, as my current speakers or headphones probably wouldn't do the job.

Currently, my living situation dictates that I can't get monitors so was looking more into studio phones to prevent any complaints from neighbours. I've started looking at the Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO and have also been looking into a headphone amplifier in order to achieve better quality from these, though I'm unsure of how "good" the headphone amp would need to be. I've looked through guides for "the best headphone amplifiers" and stuff but cannot tell whether something like the Fiio E06 would work or whether I'd need something more? On the flipside, I've got an old Kenwood Stereo Integrated Amplifier KA-3020 Special Ediction for running my old speakers through, and wondered whether running my computer through this then plugging the headphones into the unit would work?

I'd only require the amp for use in my home so it wouldn't need to be portable, however I don't have a huge budget. I'd like to use the Fiio E06 if it were fit for purpose (due to the attractive price) but I don't want to buy one if I don't have to or buy one and not get the best flat sound from the headphones as I can.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Edit: I'm not particularly set on the Beyerdynamics either, if anyone can recommend a better pair for the same price or cheaper then that would be cool too. What about the AKG K240 MkIIs?

u/Mad_Economist · 1 pointr/CabaloftheBuildsmiths

Interesting preference swing. I generally consider v-shaped to be the opposite of balance/neutral, but oddly liking it and liking neutrality does seem to correlate.

The first thing that catches my eye browsing through Amazon.co.uk would be a pair of [99 quid Sennheiser HD558s] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD-558-Headphones-Technology-Noir/dp/B004FEEY9A/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1425694300&sr=8-17&keywords=dt990). Now, I actually own a pair of these, and they're pretty solid low-mid-fi/entry tier headphones ([review 1] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/sennheiser-hd-558/reviews/7859) and [2] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/sennheiser-hd-558/reviews/8544) if you want additional perspectives). They've got a "warm" neutral sound, meaning the lower mids and bass is a little bit forward, but their soundstage is quite large, and they're generally neutral enough to be very solid for a lot of genres. You're not gonna kill any giants with these things, but they're one of the least-hateable headphones I've ever heard, and a hell of an upgrade from what you have at current.

However, my ramble through your nation's e-store revealed a rather surprising deal: [£105 Beyerdynamic DT990s] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT990-PRO-Headset-250/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1425694280&sr=8-2&keywords=dt990). I happen to own a pair of them as well (though I paid nearly twice as much for them as my HD558s), and they would be quite well-suited if you wanted a v-shaped sound. The Beyers [have a quite significant boost to treble and bass relative to the Senns] (http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=2141&graphID[]=2861&scale=30), and they're probably my absolute favour headphone for heavy metal. The recessed mids hurt them for folk, I feel, because male vocals are at the core of most folk I listen to, and the DT990's signature puts the instruments in front of them, but that's a pretty crazy price for them, and they're definitely excellent headphones, if not as generalist as the HD558s (and, indeed, I'd tend to consider them somewhat "higher-tier" in their performance, if not within the same sound signature and for all songs). [Couple] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/beyerdynamic-dt-990-pro-headphones/reviews/9981) of [reviews] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/beyerdynamic-dt-990-pro-headphones/reviews/5127) if you want some additional perspectives. There is a wrinkle, however: they're the 250Ω version. As a result, they will be quite quiet from most sources unless you either have an amp, or a very audio chip in your computer and/or phone, and you may run into into things like audio clipping and other issues with integrated audio. For more information regarding power requirements and impedance, see [these] (http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/09/more-power.html) [three] (http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-impedance-explained.html) [articles] (http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.html).

I should also note, both of these headphones are pretty much completely open-backed, meaning that their isolation is so low that you can pretty much hear what someone's listening to on these from across the room. The DT990s are a little higher isolation, but it's not a big gap, so portable usage is pretty much off the table for both of them, if that's important to you.

Beats Studio for $300

Alternatives:

AKG-K550

~$200

Sennheiser HD 600

~$280

Beyerdynamic DT-990

~$180

Audio-Technica AD700

~$200

All of these, and more (these are just 4 of the many) offer supreme audio quality and you can find a variety of styles, open ear, closed ear, all suited to whatever kind of music you want to listen to.

"Competitive in their price range?" I disagree with you, you can look at frequency curves and see plainly that the Beats Studios can't really compete with these headphones. Beats got style, but these have functionality. Beats are typically above the average consumer grade headphones, but they can't really compete with Audiophile grade headphones.

u/robtype0 · 1 pointr/headphones

Thanks for the advice. I'm looking more for open backed phones, and I found the DT990s for just a tenner more than the K550s here.

Seems like a better fit, no? Thanks again.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Edition. Make sure you get the pro edition and not the "consumer" edition; MUCH cheaper and slightly more clamping, not all that much though. Cheaper than nearly every single other pair of headphones on the market that produce the same quality. German engineering, so this sonuvabitch won't break anytime soon. All the same, I obviously don't recommend stepping on them, although I have dropped them and sat on them plenty of times. Still the exact same quality as the first time I took them out of the box.

Some overview: MASSIVE soundstage, with unbelievable clarity. As such, they are an open pair of headphones; that is, you can hear nearly everything around you, and people that are within ~15 feet of you can hear what you're listening to if it's cranked up.

With the proper amp settings and a decent media player, they can also have throbbing, very present bass(I recommend Foobar2000, free download, with the graphic equalizer add-on; it makes a huge difference). Even without any sort of amp, this pair of headphones still delivers thumping bass (as long as your device has a decent soundcard; don't expect an RCA MP3 player to produce the same output). Rest assured, the bass isn't even close to overwhelming (think Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2, which are basically subwoofers strapped to your head), but can really pound if you truly desire it.

As for comfort? The product review states the Pro has higher clamping power than the normal version, but this is almost completely negatable due to the price difference and the fact that it barely clamps at all. The cups are fuzzy and warm; not so warm it makes you sweat, but it feels... nice. Like cuddling! It comes with a 1/4" adapter that screws on to your standard 3.5 mm adapter, and the cable is coiled, which is much more convenient to me than wrestling around with 4 feet of cable when I'm sitting 1 foot away from my computer.

Overall, they're incredible. They blow my fucking mind every time I load up Foobar2000. I just can't get enough of them, and cannot in one lifetime recommend them enough. Love 'em love 'em LOVE 'EM!

EDIT: It sounds like the actual music group is in the room with you. They're right there playing, on each side of your head. The sounds really sound like they're right there.

I just ordered the Beyerdynamic DT990 and received them today. I haven't plugged them into my amp yet and have only been using them plugged into the headphone jack of my laptop. I think they are perfect so far and I have tested multiple different types of music, I also watched part of the first Star Wars movie and thought it was phenomenal for that as well.

As far as comfort goes, well the reason I only watched part of Star Wars is because the headphones were so comfortable that I fell asleep while wearing them. I am also a glasses wearer, I have the thick plastic frame type of glasses and the cups of the headphones seem to just squish around the arms of my glasses and don't cause me any discomfort unlike past headphones that I have tried.

u/chopdok · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Cloud I are competitive in their price range. What I was referring to is more about particular preferences. For example, Cloud I are closed-back headphones. That has its advantages - if you game in a noisy environment, or if you don't want to disturb the people near you, also the closed-back will have higher percieved volume per equal amplifier output power, since less sound-waves escape the earcup - especially important when using on-board audio. The digital audio processing quality of on-board audio certainly made progress, but the on-board amplifiers are still underpowered shit (barring few expensive motherboard that actually began using proper single-chip amplifiers from Texas Instruments, but those are rare and expensive).

However, if you want a more natural sound, and wider sound-stage - you really want an open-air headphones. Especially you want open-air headphones for positional audio.

In fact - most of the sound quality issues people attribute to Virtual Surround are not due to the deficiencies of the technique, but rather due to simply using the wrong headphones - when you use Virtual Surround with closed-back headphones - you will feel that reverb is too much, that the sound has very unnatural, compressed feel to it. With open-air headphones - assuming of course, you bought good ones - the virtual surround will sound way more real, more natural. That is not to say that you wont be able to tell where the gunshots come from when using Virtual Surround with closed-back headphones - that part works regardless, but with open-air, it just sound better.

To go for specifics - if you want a good open-air headphones under 100$ that will deliver virtual surround experience any closed-back "true 7.1 surround durr hurr durr" headset can only dream of - you can grab Phillips SHP9500. If you wanna get more serious - Beyerdynamic DT 990 250-Pro - those are legendary. Absolute sound clarity. However, those are 250-Ohm headphones, so you will have to have either a good sound card, or external amplification to drive them.

What will you be using for a headphone amp? Just curious in case we need to leave room in the budget for that.

It might be down to personal preference so if you can get your ears on any of these headphones in person then that'll go a long way in making a decision. If I'm looking at this as my own $300 and I were looking to buy, I'd be interested in checking out the following pairs:

  • Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (always wanted a 770 or 990 for myself)
  • HIFIMAN HE-400I or HE-400S (the S model seems to be lower impedance so would need a good amp to drive them)
  • Sennheiser HD 600
  • Shure SRH1440
  • Bose QuietComfort 35 (wireless and noise-cancelling)

See if you can check any out at your local electronics store. Might consider buying used or setting up a deal alert at slickdeals.net to get a good price.

Also, I already own a pair of M50's and they're very popular. Sits at about $150.

Hi all, I've not really owned any headphones and only purchased "gaming" Headsets when I was younger. I'm looking to upgrade my sound setup and experience better sound!

I've considered a few headphones but never know which one to go for as there are always pro's and con's for each headphone.
Initially I was going to go for the HD650/HD600 as the more i read on them the more tempted I am in buying one of these. Would these work with gaming also as I've read they don't have the largest sound stage?

Currently, I'm considering - DT990 PRO - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT990-PRO-Headphones-250/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
I could also consider the 990 Premium (possibly the 600Ohm one however unsure if my Soundblaster Omni is good enough for it) - Also looked into the DT880's but read that DT990's provide a bit more bass but that the 880s are more clear with vocals.

Also looked into these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-Reference-Open-Back-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B00DCXZY1W however, read that they are light on bass. I like my bass to be quite stronger than neutral but nothing overkill, for movies/music so maybe these might not be for me.

Finally this was last on my list as I'm able to go both open and closed - https://www.amazon.co.uk/HiFiMan-Open-Closed-Back-Headphones/dp/B01EJZHCQQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1503143202&sr=1-1&keywords=Hifiman+Edition+S however, read how the build quality is not that great.

Mainly will be using the headphones for 85% gaming, 5% music, 10% movies.

Budget - Preferably under £200 but flexible

Source - Creative Soundblaster Omni - USB Sound Card with 600 Ohm Headphone Amp -https://us.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-omni-surround-5-1 - I'm hoping this is powerful enough to power most headphones without any problems?

Requirements for Isolation - Will only be using headphones at home, I don't mind less isolation but I plan on attaching a mic (ModMic) and don't want my microphone picking up the sound, even at reasonbly loud volumes.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Nope :)

Preferred Type of Headphone - Do you want IEMs, full-sized, or on-ear? Full-sized/Over the ear

Preferred tonal balance - Are you a basshead, particularly fond of a smooth midrange, strong highs, or do you want an overall balanced pair of headphones? - This part I'm not really sure on, I like a decent amount of bass but nothing overkill. I'm looking for something with possibily a good sound stage that works well mainly for gaming/movies and movies, tough to balance all i suppose but in order, Gaming>Music>Movies. Main reason I want decent/good bass as it feels as if it adds to my immersion when gaming/watching movies.

Past headphones - What have you used in the past, what did you like about them and what didn't you like about - Steelseries Siberia Elite - For me, has a great level of base and overall sound and the best sounding headphones I've ever owned, but it's time to step up my sound game now and looking for something a lot better :]

Preferred Music - What do you listen to? If your music tastes are very esoteric, providing some examples (Youtube links work well) may be of some assistance to your helpers. - Music taste varies from time to time, but often listen to house music, electronic dance music, any new music popular music (Global Top 50 etc.)

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - What are you looking for going into your next headphone? More bass? More detail? More treble? - Hopefully, an upgrade in my listening experience in gaming/music/movies, sound in general. Prefer that the bass feels slightly stronger than neutral to help with immersion in games such as Battlefield titles. A good sound stage and clear sound.

Believe me I know. I typically use my headphones when I'm working on Music or Mixing Audio. I use these.

u/Pvt-Area · 1 pointr/audiophile

I just ordered a pair of these tonight, but I'm lost on what amp to get. I am completely new to any sort of advanced audio like this and have only owned gaming headsets and meh-tier earbuds all my life. With that in mind, I don't think I have the most discerning of ears yet and it would probably be a waste to spend 200 on a Schiit stack or 02+ODAC combo, especially considering that's over double the price of my headphones! I would prefer to keep amp/DAC totals to be in the $100 ballpark.

My first question - is a DAC even necessary for these? I'm still not entirely sure what it does, since all of the explanations I've seen have been in audiophile jargon that is gibberish to me. Can I get away with running only an amp or a amp/DAC combo?

A cheap option I've seen while shopping around is a amp/DAC combo as mentioned previously. I've heard SUPER mixed reviews of pairing these 250-Ohm headphones with a Fiio e10k, some saying it works great, but others saying the complete opposite. I've also heard good and bad things about SMSL products like the SMSL SD793-II, one mention highly recommending the iBasso D-Zero Mk2, and another few people recommending the CMOY.

What are my best options here? I would appreciate any help I can get. Sorry for the long post and thank you!

  • Budget - ~$200 - $300. Getting a headphone amp, if applicable, would factor into the price.
  • Source - ASUS Xonar DS Sound Card. Mostly FLAC and MP3 320 CBR.
  • Requirements for Isolation - None, there's little ambient noise around me, and what noise there is I don't mind seeping in.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-sized, Over-Ear/Circumaural. I'll be wearing them most of my waking day so I'd like for them to be comfortable for the long term.
  • Preferred tonal balance - As balanced/neutral as is possible, I do listen to a lot of bass heavy music, but that doesn't mean I want it to overpower the mids and highs.
  • Past headphones - Sennheiser HD595, Shure E2, Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 Pro
  • Preferred music - Electronica (IDM, Hardcore, Ambient, Chiptunes), Acoustic (Classical, Romance, Piano), Occasionally Rock or Folk (Tuvan throat singing because, why not?).

A few headphones that have piqued my interest are:

  • Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohm - A few concerns are the need for a headphone amp and the curled cord. Also, it's reported to favor highs and lows. Great price though.
  • Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro 250 Ohm/32 Ohm - The 32 Ohm version according to the reviews doesn't sound as good as the 250 Ohm versions.
  • AKG K 701

I don't want to replace my HD 595s with the newer HD 598s as the design flaws, and cheap plastic, still seem to be an issue. After about 7-8 years of daily but gentle use my 595s have cracked on both sides (not my picture, but similar damage) and now are only held together with duct tape =). Also, I wouldn't mind an upgrade - as long as it lasts a decade or longer.

For the headphone amp, I was considering the Schiit Magni, but I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks!

Budget - $200 Cap

Source - iPhone, desktop -- Willing to get an amp

Isolation - Some/None preferred, not a huge issue

Type - Over Ear

Balance - I'd prefer something well balanced. I love my bass, but I don't want mids or highs to suffer or be too pitchy.

Past Headphones - All are either earbuds or ~$20 IEMs from Sony. Looking to upgrade to a good pair of headphones that will last me.

Preferred Music - I listen to a mix of rock, pop, dubstep, hiphop, and classical.

I'm currently trying to decide between the Beyerdynamic DT 990 and the 770.

Looking around this sub and doing some review searching on Amazon, both seem very good and within my price range, but if anyone has extra suggestions, I'm all ears.

I have a Sennheiser HD-555. It started to crack a few months after I got it, and one arm fell off after about a year of lite use. I've been keeping it together with duct tape, but now the other arm is about to fall off. I'm considering the following:

  • Sennheiser HD 559 $167

  • Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250Ohms $186

Is the HD559 more durable than the HD555? I don't want it breaking again. How do the soundstages compare? I wish I could say what kind of balance I like but I only really have experience with the HD555, so I have no idea whether I'd like anything different.

I currently own a pair of Sennheiser HD598's. I would like to get a pair for on the go use, though I'm also not opposed to upgrading the 598's for home use. My only concern with IEMs is spending a lot of money to have them broken/lost. I'm hoping to spend <$200. I listen to a lot of jazz, hiphop, and classical. Bass isn't particularly important.

Would either of these Beyers be an upgrade to my 598's? They're currently on sale on Amazon:

A little bit more money but I can definitely vouch for the quality Beyerdynamic provides.

u/uglyzombie · 1 pointr/WeAreTheMusicMakers

Awesome! I genuinely look forward to hearing it come together! I appreciate you being so receptive to the feedback. I had a feeling you were mixing in headphones (and most likely closed shell too). This can really screw with you, and is generally considered a no no. However, with a good pair of open shell, you can improve significantly. Eventually, I'd recommend investing in a pair of good monitors down the road (6" should be fine for you to start).

Until then, these are all solid choices, without making too much of an initial investment. I would recommend the Bayerdynamic, as they're just really solid altogether, but sometimes the drivers pop and you'll get crackle and hiss. I have two pair in my studio (close back for recording) but I've heard nothing but good things about the open shell (for mixing):

A Game One only has impedance of 50 Ohm so you'd probably get away with just plugging it into your soundcard. You might get better results from an external amp/dac though.

With £200 though you could get a decent pair of headphones (I like the AKG K702s or the DT 990s. A ModMic 5 is around £60. Personally that's what I'd do, the quality will be noticeably higher than even the Sennheiser Game headsets.

  • Budget: £200 at most.
  • Sources: PC and my HTC One.
  • Requirements for isolation: None.
*Preferred Type of Headphones: Over ear, I hate on ears and I do not like IEMs very much.
  • Preferred Tonal Balance: Neutral, mayble slighlt warm, I'm unsure about this.
  • Past Headphones: Sony MDR-V55s These are very uncomfortable for over 30 minutes, but they sounded OK. I have some Soundmagic E10s for portable use.
  • Preferred Music: I listen to entirely rock/metal usually prog metal.
  • What I'm Currently Considering:

Sennheiser HD598 This looks quite good and is meant to be quite neutral. These are in the middle of my price range.

Beyerdynamic DT880 PRO These are meant to be very comfortable - I quite like the look of these

Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO These are similar to the DT 880s (not in sound apparently), but they are apparently more comfortable than the 880s. THey are also much cheaper than the 880s

AKG K702 The design of these is appealing and that they meant to be detailed in sound.

AKG Q701 These supposedly sound better than the K702s in that they have more bass These are the very most that I am willing to spend.
An yother suggestions would be appreciated!

u/Aezalius · 1 pointr/Twitch

My current go-to in this price range is a mix of a Yamaha MG10XU mixer or Scarlett Solo interface with a Shure SM57.

SM57 is a really nice sounding dynamic mic for $100, and sounds pretty much equal to the SM7b and 58 in some videos I watched. This fuzzy thing will also act as a nice pop filter for it and is pretty cheap. I've got one of those big round mesh ones and it still lets some heavy Ps and Ts through, so look at some videos if you go that route.

I personally like to tweak with things in hardware, so i'd go with the Yamaha board since it has a ton of features, but if you just want to plug in the mic to something nice then the Scarlett is also fantastic. I've also been using this Neewer arm for about 6 years, and it does the job.

Headphones wise, I've used the AudioTechnica M50x a few times before and honestly they're the best headphones I've ever heard myself. I also see a lot of people praising the Beyerdynamic DT 990s too.

u/traspie_fitz · 1 pointr/ZReviews

DT 990 pro These may be a better option for gaming, but they're open and have less bass. I don't know that amp/dac, but I can recommend this one K3

u/Slurrpin · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

If you haven't already posted there, /r/headphoneadvice might be more helpful.

At £100 you have some options.

If you want to save some money the Creative Aurvana Live are excellent value.

Closer to £100, the Beyerdynamic DT990 pro are likely the best available to you. They're open-backed and have a distinct treble-focused sound which you might not like. If you need to be isolated from your surroundings or don't want other people to hear what you're listening to, they may not be suitable.

The DT770 pro is an alternative if you need something closed back. They're along the same lines, limited from being closed back, but still better than 95% of what £100 will get you.

The SIVGA SV005 are also rumoured to be quite good value, but unlike the others I've listed I haven't heard them myself. It's another option to look into.

All of these have different strengths and limitations, you'd do yourself a favour to look into reviews before buying; multiple reviews - don't trust anything a single person says, look for what people agree on.

Just stay away from headsets marketed towards gamers, Razer, Logitech, Turtle Beaches, they're almost always poor value, poor quality, overpriced, and fragile.

u/SummerMango · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would say stay away from any headphone recommendations that are:

u/imjustademo · 1 pointr/audiophile

Ok. I've come to a decision that I most likely will get THESE if I don't change my expectations for a pair of headphones. I read Mad Lust Envy's review on them and they seem like the right pair for me. Now with getting these would it be good to get an amp and DAC? And if I'm looking for a seperate amp and not a 2 in 1 would THIS be a proper desktop amp? (With 3.5mm outputs though) DAC? Or should I just go with the DAC/AMP you recommended

u/Alosar · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

In that case, should I buy the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II or the beyerdynamics DT990 Pro?

The thing is that I read that high ohm headphones require more powerful DAC/Amp to work properly. Is that true? And say I then would buy a DAC/Amp combo with them, would they even sound better than the Sennheiser ones if I'd just plug them straight into my PC?

u/Oysterfish · 1 pointr/headphones

Hi,

What do you all think of the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 ohm headphones? I have really wanted to try some open back headphones for the soundstage and these appealed to me because I would not have to fully give up on bass. Bruh, if "every headphone puts out different levels so realistically your math is probably completely wrong too" is deemed as saying why, then no doubt things like antivax are gaining in strength in today's world.

Argument =/= some anecdotal bullshit.

Have you even tried to verify your invalid claims? You just said they put out different levels and assumed you're right. But you definitely are. The thing is, not in the way you assumed. All of the headphones that I could find put out LOWER volumes, not higher. A counter argument would be saying why the math is wrong with examples, not that it's pRoBaBlY wRoNg BeCaUsE various headphones put out different levels. Show me what levels they put out. And the way it makes the math wrong.

These PeohZarr B07SHH37M6 put out 106db (ctrl+f: sensitivity)

These beyerdynamic B0011UB9CQ put out 96db in user manual.

These beyerdynamic 770 PRO also put out 96db in specification sheet.

And I always looked at specifications of headphones I buy, because shit like this is just interesting to me. And I assure you - I've never seen a value higher than 120db. You can try to find me one. Link to Amazon > headphones.

>You can’t do the math for one certain headphone and call it a day.

Switch my 112db with any of these values and the result is even more in my favor.

Edit: link typo and change example.

My main headphones recently stopped working properly so I'm looking for a replacement. I would use them for gaming with a priority on immersion, and as I already have a modmic I don't need a headset. I do watch a lot of videos and sometimes films, so them being good for that would be nice as well, but it isn't strictly the priority.

Budget - I'd like to spend no more than £100 but if necessary I'm willing to go a little over.

Source - My computer, a DAC/AMP would be nice but that would likely be outside of my budget.

Requirements for Isolation - Only going to be used at home, I can use some other headphones when quietness is needed.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-sized

Preferred tonal balance - I think I'd want balanced?

Past headphones - Well my headphones that just broke were the Creative Aurvana Live! and I'm currently using Koss Porta Pros until I get a replacement. I can't really say what I like about them.

Preferred Music - Lately I've been listening to classical, and I would say it's my favourite, but I do also listen to Rock and occasionally Electronic.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Can't honestly say I know, I felt like something was lacking with my old headphones but I don't have the technical knowledge to pinpoint it.

Location - UK, mainly use Amazon Prime for purchases but if I can get it somewhere else for cheaper then I will.

Other - So I spent a fair bit of last night researching this and the headphones that got mentioned a lot were the SHP9500, the Audio Technica AD series, HD558/598 and sometimes the DT770/990.

The annoying thing is, while the SHP9500 are fantastic value over in the US, like $50-70, they're equivalent to $155 here, at least on Amazon. Now, I could get the 990 for about the same price (£109 for 9500, £104 for DT990) but I would have to get a DAC/AMP to power them, which would put it way over my budget, and the SHP9500's have a detachable cable, which sounds fantastic right now. However, I don't want to be spending money on headphones that are worse than others I could get for the same price.

I've seen the 559's but I don't know what the difference between those and the 558's is, but if they're the same, then I could get them for £89.99 from Amazon.

I've heard mixed things about the AD series and the cheapest ones are still expensive for my budget at £119, again on Amazon.

Trying to decide between these is honestly difficult considering that most of the reviewers and resources are from the US and so they're basing the "bang-for-your-buck" value on the prices of the items over there, where they're a lot cheaper. I'm not saying I'd only pick from these, just that they're the headphones that are mentioned the most when trying to find good open-back headphones for gaming on a small budget. If any of you guys can suggest headphones that are just as good, if not better, but at a better price for my region then I'd happily consider them. Thanks.

I found the ones I have here for $150. I've only heard the Pro 250ohm ones and they're pretty amazing.

u/Arkinos · 1 pointr/buildapc

i think the keyboard is overkill, the razer mouse is decent, but i prefer this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Zowie-Gear-Gaming-Mouse-FK1/dp/B00LHRTO5W

used by the most cs go pros, really loving it.

for the headset, i would go with a real pair of headphones, like these and add a clip mic!

gaming headsets usually have worse sound quality compared to real headphones.

EDIT: The fractal has better airflow. For the best option in terms of airflow, add a 140mm fan at the front. So you end up with 2 intake fans and one in the back.

Most comfortable headphones I've used in my life, and top notch sound quality. Tiny bit above the price limit, but it's well worth it.

u/Chynkinese · 1 pointr/xboxone

What's your budget?

I'd get a good set of headphones. Do a bit of research to find the best pair that fits your budget. I own the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250Ohms. I'm happy with it. It's an open back headset so sound will leak in and out. If you prefer more isolation, look into closed back or semi-open.

Get the headset adapter for the Xbox One for $25.49.

Add a clip on mic like this Zalman Zm-Mic1 for $7.56.

Finally, you'll need a 3.5 mm splitter to join the headphones and mic. The thing you want to make sure is that there are three stripes on the plug. If you look at the plug on your typical set of headphones, you'll notice the plug only has two stripes. For the adapter, you have to make sure there are three stripes cause that's what allows you to combine the microphone and headset. Here are a couple of options: 1 and 2.

For my exact set up, you're looking at exactly $183 before taxes. You'll have a much better pair of headphones than what you'd get if you went with a Turtle Beach headset that's in the same price range.

u/camicazi · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

OK, I came up with a few suggestions:

$100-150 sennheiser hd558, ath ad700x, akg k612

$150-200 sennheiser hd598,
ath ad900x, akg q701, beyerdynamic dt990

(both akg k612 and beyer requiers an amp, makes the price go up with about $200 if you dont already have an amp), you dont necessarily need an amp for the akg q701, but be ready to crank volumes up to maximum to get a comfortable volume level without an amp, and some people think that the volume is just too low without it.

Should be noted that if you have the cash to go with the beyer, it should perform almost as amazing as the ad900x and q701 with positional sound, but also has among the best bass in the market at sub $500

u/teddyzaper · 1 pointr/headphones

is the modmic still the way to go? Are there any other microphone alternatives?

Also, Looking at headphones in the $150-200 price range. Out of these what would you pick? Also any that i've missed?

DT-990 PRO -$160

DT-880 PRO -$190

ATH-AD900X -$150

SR225e -200

Philips X2 -$225

I currently own the Takstar Pro80 and the one thing i really don't like is that they don't fit my ears well. I fear that the grado may have the same issue as they look a bit smaller than the others.

My daily driver is the Astro A40, and they started having a tinny sound in the left ear so i'm ready to upgrade!

u/TheRealAkin · 1 pointr/buildapc

ath-m50 with FiiO E6 amp $139.95

Beyerdynamic DT990 pro $129.95

Either of those would serve you very well

u/plaguing · 1 pointr/buildapc

Have you thought about building a custom loop? Also, you should get a Corsair 900D, it's the sexiest thing out there for Full Tower, in my opinion.

Also, any specific reason you're going with Corsair for both mouse and keyboard?

For the keyboard, I'd recommend a Ducky Shine 3 and for the mouse, possibly a Razer DeathAdder 2013.

And never ever get a 'headset'. They are overpriced for their quality.

What you need is a nice pair of headphones and then a microphone.

Your friend can just get these.

http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-DT-990-Pro-250-Professional-Acoustically-Applications/dp/B0011UB9CQ

or

And then add the AntLion ModMic 3.0 to it and have the perfect 'headset' without it actually being branded as that.

EDIT:

Also, I'd advise against getting Seagate's. Get Western Digital Caviar Blacks/Blues instead, they have a lower failure rate. And since he has the budget, spend more on the SSD and get more storage.

__

EDIT 2:

Titan Black's are also now the best cards for gaming, surpassing the 780Ti. If he can fit it into the budget (I'd assume he could), do so.

u/Zynismus · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Haha, what are those? I don't know your budget.. but these are awesome

u/wonkybingo · 1 pointr/audioengineering

Night and day, best thing to do is go to your local music shop and try them both. But the Sony's are closed-back so the bass is lot more boomy and the high's are a bit screechy if I remember rightly. (A guy I used to do a lot of recording with used them)

If you go for the 990's make sure it's the 990 Pro 250 ohm model you get: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT990-PRO-Headset-250/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1370617529&sr=1-4&keywords=dt990+pro

Something like a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990s plus ModMic would save you a fair bit of money (the headphones are heavily discounted at the moment) as well as having much better sound quality. A pair of PSB M4U 1s would be another (closer to $300) option.

The problem with buying PC gaming headphones, is that even if they come from a decent manufacturer (like Sennheiser) because PC gamers don't typically care about sound quality past a certain point (which you should if you're dropping as much as $300 on a pair of headphones) the prices can simply be vastly increased from what an equivalent "audiophile/music listener geared" pair of headphones would cost you. They also tend to be a bit lacking in the comfort/build quality areas (because PC hardware/peripherals in general have shorter life-spans than say high end audio equipment).

u/crazy_legs · 1 pointr/audioengineering

I need a new pair of headphones that will mainly be used for mixing and sometimes monitoring while my band practices/records. I'm looking specifically at open-backed since they will be mainly used for mixing and none of the gear is mic'd anyway.

I've narrowed it down to two options but am very open to suggestions. I'd like to keep the price tag under $200 (not counting shipping costs).

Sennheiser HD 579

Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (Unsure what Ohm to get?)

More Details

Our current setup is a bit different than how a normal band practices and records due to space issues and having to keep it quiet (most of the time). We use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 and all go directly into it.

The drummer is on an Alesis Forge electronic kit, the midi out goes to the interface, into Reaper with Addictive Drums running for some better sounding samples.

The guitarist uses an Fractal AX8 and uses the XLR out into the interface. And I (bass) use a SansAmp DI.

We all monitor ourselves and each other using headphones, ATH-M30x's. Two of us using the headphone outs on the front and one of us using the monitor out in back. Vocals are practiced occasionally (when we can be loud and play through our amps) and recorded after all the instrumentals are done.

I've been waiting for HD 598s to drop in price again but all they've done is go up sadly.

Since the HD 579s are currently $100 on Amazon I'm strongly considering those instead, however I'd like to know if you guys think the DT 990 Pros are worth the extra $40 sound and comfort wise?

I'll most likely be getting an E10K along with them as well.

Edit: I'll be using them for gaming, hip hop, edm and YouTube mostly.

u/Bridge-ineer · 1 pointr/headphones

Hey guys been lurking for a few weeks here now off and on, hopefully you can toss me some advice.

Budget - I'd say 150-200$~

Source - PC. Gaming, and music listening. (Many times both at the same time)

Requirements for Isolation - The idea in my mind is that I'm going to end up using these in my dorm/room during college. So sound isolation would be good so I dont disturb my roommates.

Preferred Type of Headphone - I honestly haven't experienced many quality headphones, but as long as they are comfortable for long gaming sessions + sound isolation then I'd be satisfied. That being said over-ear headphones seem to be pretty comfortable.

Past headphones - A couple cheap gaming headphones, and then 3years ago I purchased some Razer Megalodon's which are extremely comfortable. So I'm looking for a comfort level that can be on par with them (I think they use similar ear pads to the DT 770s)

Preferred Music -I listen to anything with a good baseline, but this mostly includes Electronic Music and Rap/Hip-Hop.

Preferred tonal balance Hard to say. Probably balanced for gaming +music, but I have been known to be a basshead

Amp? - Well to be completely honest the requirement of an external amp is still pretty foreign to me, but I'm willing to learn! Seeing as these headphones will generally be staying by my PC I wouldn't mind picking up a Schiit combo or something if its necessary.

One last requirement - I don't know the state of other headphones but one of the greater attributes of my current headphones is the virtual 7.1 surround sound. I've found them incredibly useful for gaming and hearing enemies behind me, so I would like the same or some similar feature in my next headphones.

Something from the Beyerdynamic line, one of these perhaps?

Thanks for your time.

1. What is your budget?

Around $400 - $800

2. What are you looking for?

I am looking for some better audio (stereo only) for my desk, alongside the monitor and notebook.

3. How will you typically be using the gear?

I listen sitting at the desk, so near-filed. The desk is 160x80cm.

4. What gear do you own?

My current setup is 12 years old Logitech X-540 now used only at 3.1 setup. The subwoofer started to silently hum recently which gives me a headache.
Headphones Bayerdynamic DT 990 PRO (250 Ohm).
I also have Genius SP HF1250X used at my TV and they hum even more badly.

I tried to use the Genius bookshelves on my desk and they sound dull. I have also read that the bookshelves are actually not good for desk and near-field experience.

5. What do you intend on using for a source?

I listen from my USB-C Belkin dock station connected to my MacBook.

6. What material will you be using your gear for?

Mainly for music (pop, rock, classic - Spotify or my own mp3 / FLAC collection) and youtube. Then occasionally some series and films.

7. Are you willing to buy used?

Not really.

I agree with what NovaKitFox said with audio being important, but if your budget is 100 and if you had to choose between one or the other, I'd always choose a decent mic so your viewers can hear you better.

Instead of going with the fancy wireless modmic that was previously posted, there's a cheaper wired version by the same company that I used before but still have and would recommend:

Antlion ModMic - 49.95 US

Literally find any okay headphone and stick this mic on it and you're set. Generally you don't want to use the "gamer" headset mics for recording, they come out sounding cheap. With this, you can always upgrade to better headphone down the line since it's detachable and everything. If you pick up a more studio microphone like the audio-technica AT2005USB, its nice but then you'd have to think about a mic arm and audio interface which can easily add up to another 100+ dollars.

When you DO get more money to upgrade your headphone, I would suggest looking at something like the beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (142 US) which is what I'm using and its been my favorite thus far.

As a general rule of thumb, stay away from anything marketed "gamer" headphones or headsets. They're usually overpriced and made cheap in my opinion. Not to say they're ALL bad but I find it annoying to have to sift through it all. Just do some of your own due diligent and see what works for you.

Hope this all helps. Cheers and good luck!

u/hatcod · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

7.1 in headphones is a gimmick. Ignore them.

Here's something you can look at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011UB9CQ

Very good headphones, if you scroll down, you'll see 3 items including the headphones. An amplifier (Fiio E10K) and a microphone (Mod Mic). That's everything you need and it comes out to $269.78.

u/iNeedAValidUserName · 1 pointr/AVexchange

That's about 20% off retal, I don't think it's crazy low. You're probably thinking of the regular dt 990 250ohm, not the pro version/

u/The_Restricted · 1 pointr/audiophile

I'd recommend trying the Beyerdynamic DT 990 250 Ohm Pros, although you'll need a DAC/Amp for it. They're currently $141 on amazon right now.

u/p1ksel · 0 pointsr/battlestations

If you ask me, you shouldn't buy any 'headset' at all, if you really want one then buy the HyperX Cloud 1 or 2 from Kingston (The steelseries/Qpad Headsets are also okay). But if you have the money, buy some good headphones like these http://www.amazon.de/Beyerdynamic-DT-990-PRO-250-DT-990-Pro-Kopfh%C3%B6rer/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=pd_rhf_gw_s_cp_1_3MA2?ie=UTF8&refRID=101YBKY1ZJFTJCR8XY8Z with a 5.1/7.1 Soundcard and a seperate microphone. For keyboards I'd recommend a custom one, but that`s just preference, just make sure it has no ghosting issues (Iam currently using the Qpad MK-50, it has a reasonable price without those shiny lighting everywhere and is still very effective and precise). For the mice I suggests the Zowie FK 1 and if you have big hands, like me, go for some old Logitech mice (I have the old G400, but the deathadder is one exception of Razer products). If you play Counter Strike, or something similiar, you can absolutely trust me. My point about your gear is, Razer is the Apple of "gaming gear" you could say, their products are very expensive, they dont last very long, and are not as good as products from companies who are specialized in one thing (This especially goes for every Razer Headsets, I used several and they were all shitty and expensive). And of course I want to apologize for my bad english, and this long roman of answer. For more info about these stuff, just watch some Tek Syndikate on YT, imo their videos are quiet helpful.
