That's because they are some of the best affordable Closed-Back headphones.
They are the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 ohm. I'm using a FiiO E10K DAC/AMP for better sound/volume control.
I can highly recommend a set of Beyerdynamic DT-770s. I've had mine for 3 years and I use them every day at work. You can probably find them cheaper than Amazon if you look around. You will be able to grab them used for cheap too if you don't mind that.
In order of price:
There are others that people like to recommend the old Denons, specially the D2000 that can be found cheaper in Ebay, but its a pain in the butt to find, same with the MDR-XB1000.
Some people will also mention some JVC ones, but i havent had the chance to try them. Btw some people will recommend the HE400i and please no stay away from them. Stay away from Planars in general if you want Basshead levels of Bass, the LCD-2 Pre-Fazor being the only exception (i tried it like a year ago so i dont remember a lot but i liked it).

You're going to be doing your ears and the ears of the people you're talking a disservice to by getting a "Gaming Headset." I've owned a Steelseries Siberia v2 for a couple years now and I regret it every time I use them.
Average is the greatest compliment I can give them. Average soundstage, average bass, average highs and average mic quality. And if you're going to be spending ~$90 on a head set you want something that will be more than average.
This is what I wish I went with years ago and what I still wish I could justify buying while my Siberia is functioning:
By going with a pair of headphones that are high quality and feature an exceptional soundstage, which basically means how far around you you can hear (good for picking up footsteps and locating bullet shots), and top of the line sound reproduction you're setting yourself up to have the best of both worlds, gaming and music.
This is all coming from someone who wishes they had more money to spend on audiophile gear. Make sure to check out /r/audiophile as well, they have a lot of good information there as well.

Get the DT-770. They're like the 990 but closed and bassier, a good fit for electronic music. They're built like tanks, they don't look great (and don't need to), they isolate well, and thus they barely leak sound.
If you're using with a laptop or phone with underpowered audio out, get the 32 Ohm for $124.
Otherwise, the 80 Ohm version is $118 and also has velour pads. It also has just a bit more bass, but on worse audio sources it will be too quiet or otherwise sound a bit off.
Don't get an amp - if you would need an amp, get the 32 Ohm version. If you're dead set on getting an amp, go for a DAC/Amp, the SMSL M3 is one of the best cheaper desktop models.
Alternatively, and this will be frowned upon here, you could go for HyperX Cloud for $80. You missed the cheaper sale Friday ($65), but from personal experience of having these exact headphones without the microphone, they sound great with everything and have enough detail that they're a significant upgrade over what you have now.
If they're company sponsored or you have the funds, check out the Sony WH1000XM2. It's an atrocious name, but the best noise-cancelling headphones in the market, not to mention it absolutely wipes the floor with the Bose QC35s for sound quality.
If you're more into the ease of pairing between multiple devices (and are allowed to use your personal iCloud credentials on a work machine) check out the Beats Studio Wireless 3 for easy pairing and switching between devices.
Other than that there really isn't anything comparable in the noise cancelling department. However, if you're prefer having closed-back headphones, definitely look at the ATH-M50x and the Beyerdynamics 770DT Pros. They're both excellent headphones with amazing sound quality, definitely the best bang for buck.

I've been using Beyerdynamics DT 770 Pro 80 ohm paired with a Fiio E10k DAC and the sound quality is incredible. You'd be under budget with this setup too and the E10k also has a bass boost switch if that's your thing ;)
That's more of a desktop setup, though my phone does drive the 770s pretty well. If you're looking for headphones for on the go listening, I'd recommend Sony's WH1000XM3, they're the best noise cancelling headphones I've ever owned.

Get yourself a nice pair of well reviewed closed back headphones. Open back leaks more noise and tends to have a little less bass.
Then you need a mic you can attach to the side like a regular 'gaming' headset, only except now your audio is high quality.

Two thumbs up, over-ear headphones are so immersive and comfortable for long periods.
I use a set of DT770s and often wear them for 9-12 hours.

Those are two very conflicting statements. The M50X is not neutral...it has boosted bass and treble and a very narrow sound stage. Comfort is also not extremely good for long gaming sessions.
If you liked the sound of the M50X and crave for some serious low end, the HD598 might leave you disappointed. The Beyerdynamic DT770 (80Ohm) is aiming for a more extreme v-shaped sound signature than the M50X and offers better comfort and sound stage.
I had the same experience. Cannot stand the m50x despite how much praise they got. I think they are painful on the ears. For that price, forget about headsets altogether. You can get a really good headphone and mic combination. Here's an example: BeyerDyanmic DT770PRO and a ModMic
I'd highly recommend checking out the guides at /r/headphones to choose a pair best suited to you and any decent mic should do the trick.
Don't waste the money on overpriced, overhyped garbage.
What do you plan on using the headphones for? Music production or just general listening? Also, what source do you plan on using for your headphones? (like your phone, or a DAC/Amp combo? DACs are like the sound cards in your computer that decrease/eliminate electrical interference with the other components which can cause hissing or distortion when you're listening to music/audio short summary of it here) (also don't take my word as 100% accurate because I know some stuff about this but I'm probably not that good as experts who own multiple headphones and equipment)
 
I have the ATH-MSR7 and I like them quite a lot, sound signature is kind of based on your preference so maybe you could go in a store and test them out first? The MSR7 is definitely neutral with just enough bass to keep things fun and enjoyable to listen to and the clarity is pretty good, however these aren't very good for noise isolation because they're semi open, so if you're planning to use them on a train or in a bus (in moderate volume places like maybe a park or a quiet starbucks you should be fine too), you probably have to turn up the volume quite a bit (which can be bad for your ears). But if you're planning on using them at home it's totally fine. You can definitely use your phone for these because the impedance is only 30-35 ohms so your phone can power this just fine. These should be fine for both listening and music production(albeit the DT 770 Pro being better for music production).
Quick edit: they also come with a 3 detachable cables (1.2m/3m audio only cable and a 1.2m audio + mic cable)
 
Another option to look at is the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, I'm not really sure how the sound signature is but it should be bright(or at least brighter than the other headphones). Dependent on the impedance of the DT770s you pick, you might need an amp to go along with it.
It's an open back headphone so it's definitely not for bringing it out and listening to in loud environments.They're closed back. These are pretty good for music production. You probably can't use this with your phone unless it has an amp or if you have one already. (LG V20 should be able to run it if it's 80 ohms but don't take my word for it) 
The Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 are fun and won't be harsh on your sources, meaning even if you run it on your phone without a proper DAC or amp or whatever, it will still sound pretty good and there probably won't be much discernible distortion but maybe/probably won't be as detailed if you were to use a DAC/amp with it (Same story for the MSR7/DT770/most headphones at this price or higher). The momentum 2.0s are great for listening to music but probably shouldn't be used for music production.
 
I'd very much recommend not only researching the products you wanna buy, but also testing them out in a store if possible in order to find which headphones suits you the best. Cheers!
Using these since 2009 and they not only sound superior compared to any "gamer-headset" but also will NOT brake. after 6 years my cans are still like new. they are comfortable for hours, have an incredible soundstage, every single part of it can be replaced if ever needed. the head-band is made of feather-steel, the mounting of the cans are steel, you really only can brake them with force on purpose.
there is one thing though, it has open cans, you hear things from outside very easily. if you prefer a more isolated sound, get these. same headphones, but closed design, the soundstage is a bit smaller and have a bit more emphasis on bass than the 990PRO, but having 80ohm you can drive them on your smartphone also.
the pricing on both of them should fit your budget.
edit: has no mic, but you're using a blueyeti anyway. also 6.3mm and 3.5mm audio-jack.

For the $200 range closed over-ear headphones: Beyerdynamic DT770s are practically a perfect fit. They've got great quality sound with healthy and accurate bass, accurate highs and good mids. They have a V-shaped frequency response curve, so the bass and highs are emphasized a bit more than mids, but they're still very excellent. As far as comfort goes, they're excellent - light and feel like pillows on the ears. IMO you'd have to spend over $300 to get headphones that sound much better, probably more.
They don't need much amplification if you go with the 80ohm version (it helps though). They're my favorite headphone in that range and my primary set (also have some open-backed Sennheiser 518s, the DT770s are substantially better). $170 here @ B&H Photo for 250 ohm version or $229 @ Amazon for 80 ohm version. I'd go with the 80 ohm version to avoid needing to buy an amp if you don't want to go that route (which would add $50-100 or so for a basic but decent quality amp).
Hello all, so I got some help last night and think I’ve narrowed my options down to either a DT 770 , a 598 CS or just keeping what I have (hyperx cloud). I was just looking to see if anyone could help me decide or make other suggestions.
This is my post from last night with all the details. A summary is I’m looking for some new headphones for 150$-200$. I mostly play video games and listen to music for background. In all honesty I’m not sure what I’m really after, other than to see what everyone here is talking about. My only “actual” reason would be that my current pair is almost 5 years old. I would also need to get a mic if I get a new pair so any suggestions for that would be appreciated.

Pro Tools definitely isn't necessary if you're getting Logic Pro, but if it fits your budget at the end, go for it.
For Headphones, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, or Sennheiser HD280 Pro if you want to allocate more of the budget to other gear.
Assuming you're not going to doing large sessions, the Steinberg UR44 interface should meet your needs and is very budget-friendly.
The Shure SM57 is a must-have for any studio, great for electric guitar but can be used for just about anything. The SM58 should also definitely be considered.
You'll also probably want something like the Audio-Technica 2035 for recording vocals (or other instruments), and a couple of other mics that I'm sure other people will recommend.
The Yamaha HS8 is a great monitor that you'll find widely used in studios all over the world, and won't break the bank. This package also includes stands and cables.
edit I know it wasn't asked for, but price out what it costs to have someone come and tune a piano in your area. If it's reasonable, take a look on Craigslist, you can often find used upright pianos in great shape for free, being given away by people who are moving and don't play enough to justify the effort of moving it.
EDIT BACKUP DRIVES! Unless the people there have their own way of backing up the things they record, or even if they do, get a couple of hard drives and back things up often, just in case any tragedies should happen.

I got my local guitar center to price match this deal on Beyerdynamic DT 770s.
What's crazy is that's not even close to the best deal I got this weekend. Are you just looking for hardware? Not interested in plugins, soft synths or classes?
I can only speak for the most recent purchase I've made, which is the Beyerdynamic DT770. They are very comfortable (I've worn them for 5 or 6 hours at a time and they don't pinch or feel tight in the least) and they are quite light (272g) The only downside for me is that the cable is 9ft long, which is far too much for my needs but I am hoping to get them recabled at some point.

The DT770s were on sale on Prime Day and I picked up a pair to replace a set my wife hung on a halogen desk lamp.
They're closed so work better in an office environment, but the velour cups are massive and soft. They're pretty much the only over ear set I can wear for hours on end without fatigue.

Requirements for Isolation: Though I'll primarily use headphones indoors, I may be listening to my iPod in public. I'd therefore want good isolation.
Preferred Type of Headphones: Closed over-ear > closed on-ear > alternatives. I am not interested in IEMs.
Preferred tonal balance: Unsure; probably neutral? See "Preferred Music" below if that helps.
Past headphones: Mostly cheap, sub-US$40 on-ear eadphones or earbuds/IEMs. Over 10-15 years ago, I think I had the predecessor to the Sony MDR-V6, which I liked, though I had no decent frame-of-reference to which to compare them at the time.
Preferred Music: I actually listen more to podcasts than music; ideally, I'd like something that is a good complement to something like Radiolab, which has detailed, interesting sound engineering. In terms of music, I listen to rock (especially alternative), electronic, and mashups. I'd prefer healthy bass, but nothing so bass-heavy it creates a lopsided profile. I also expect to use these to listen to TV and movies as well as on my computer, but I don't do any gaming.
Miscellaneous: I'd prefer something that does not require an amp or DAC, especially since I may be using this in public with mobile devices. I'd also prefer something sturdy enough to last many years, including travel. Being able to replace the earpads would be a definite bonus. What the headphones look like is secondary to me, provided they're neither comically large, nor scream, "Expensive! Steal me!"

There is a lot of room for saving, this build will be a lot more than any game needs. If you wanted to save money you could easily get a cheaper video card. An SSD is a luxury but money can be saved there as well. I didn't include an OS/heat sink either. If you don't want to overclock an i5-2400 is good, also there are cheaper mobos too. Pretty much every slot can be customized to what you would like, and most can save you money. I just picked a decent size Asus monitor, there are definitely a lot of options though. I use a Razer DeathAdder mouse, I think it is great. For keyboard I would read a mechanical keyboard buying guide to find what is best for you. A high end mechanical keyboard will cost probably $100, though they aren't for everyone (I don't use one). For headset I would strongly recommend going headphones + mic (clip on or standalone). I personally use Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 and a standalone usb mic like this. Like almost anything there a lot of options, I really like that mic and it can be found for $15 if not lower on some sites. There are some good subreddits for headphone suggestions, there are a lot of good options in the $100 range, I know Audio-technica have some decent headphones around there (as do others). I guess ill end by if you really want to get the most out of your system I would go do some decent reading and see what is best for you, make a post later on with what you want to build with and get feed back then.

Important note! Do not buy the 250ohm model, only the 80ohm or 32ohm--you really want a headphone amp for 250ohms. If you plan on getting an amp or sound card, I'd suggest the 80ohm ones. They will sound fine un-amped but an amp will open them up. They also come with the velour pads which are WAY more comfortable. The 32 ohm version comes with pleather pads.
Another option is the Audio-Technica M50X.
They're also closed back, a little more stylish, less comfortable, but they are folding and have a removable cable. Bass isn't as good as the DT770 but they have better highs.

I would still say for you go with DT770 Pro 80 Ohm version. I think that'd be the best match for you. If you have more to spend, get a little headphone amp or a Xonar DG for your computer to power your headphones at home.
With movies, I would say the most important thing is having a big and accurate soundstage. So pretty much if an airplane flies over you in a movie it doesn't sound like an airplane was flying in your head or flying in the wrong direction or something. Not sure what you mean by "simulated" surround sound, though. Pretty much all headphones have simulated surround sound as the two drivers are right next to your ears and stuff. So in that sense, I would say it's quite important.
The ones I've recommended, the portables ones especially, have mediocre or average soundstage size or you could find a better one for the price. Aside from the Sony ones (I have not tried them extensively so that's just from initial impressions), the soundstage on the other headphones are quite accurate. They will definitely still work very well with movies.
Closed Headphones
I would probably add the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80 ohm) to the list though. Technically, the DT770 is definitely not the best bang for the buck you'll find for headphones. The bass is powerful, but is a little loose, has less clarity than the ultrasones and m50, and less soundstage than the audio technica ad700. BUT, for headphones under $200, I would say that it is the most fun and engaging headphones I've tried for movies (and one of my favorite sub $200s for music as well but many would argue otherwise). They are definitely much more comfortable than any of the headphones I've recommended above that are under $300. Overall, it is technically an average headphone, but very fun.
Open Headphones
It's a lot easier to find good soundstage on open headphones, but they tend to lack in bass. I have not heard the k701 and the dt880 below, but from reviews, this is what I gathered from it.
Audio-Technica AD700 For sub-$100 the soundstage is huge and quite accurate. Audio-Technica's winged headband system is actually the most comfortable I've ever tried, but many people have trouble with the fit as it sits quite loose on the head. If it fits though it feels weightless on your head. One big problem though. There is a SEVERE lack of bass. My musical tastes tend to swing me slightly towards the bass shy headphones, but these are really lacking. You can EQ the bass up, but if you want neutral bass it's like a good +12dB on the lower end. AKG K701 I have never tried these, but this should give you some idea. The AD700 is regarded as the poor man's K701. From what I read, the sound signature is pretty similar except it has a bigger soundstage, some say it sounds artificially big. Here's the frequency response graph for these headphones. Beyerdynamic DT880 Again, I have not tried these, but I was actually very much considering these headphones at one point. They are quite balanced and semi-open so I don't think sound leaks quite as much out of these than the other two. Soundstage is also quite big, but can be a bit bright on the high end. These tend to be one of the most recommended headphones in the ~$300 price range as great all-rounders. The DT990 I recommended above is closed and has more bass.
All of the headphones I recommended specifically for movies are all non-portable. If you are looking for something portable, I have not heard many portable headphones that I would ever really consider to have great soundstage. But the ones above at least can definitely can get the job done.
Just bought a set of Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-80-ohms from guitar center for 220, they are the best headphones I've ever used and the most comfortable. They block out all sound and also keep all your sound in, even at max volume. Couldn't recommend them enough, I've been wearing them 6+ hours at a time with no discomfort. Also, since they are 80 ohm, they open you up to possibly getting an amp in the future. I didn't even know something like that existed until I bought these, but it's nice to know the upgrade is there.
be warned they pack a lot of bass, which some people find a problem. I however, think its amazing sounding. But I love my bass.
4th ninja edit cuz I love my cans: I have a smaller than average head, so a lot of headphones sag, or feel like they could fall of my head easily. I returned the AD900x, $200 for that reason, the 770s fit great
If you're looking for a closed-back set with a pronounced low end, the Beyerdynamic DT 770's are amazing. Just keep in mind you'll have to buy a separate clip-on mic if you're using them for chat.

Three headphones which are recommended for first time buyers looking to invest in a higher quality pair of headphones are Audia-Technica's ATH-M50x, Grado's SR80e and Beyerdynamic's DT-770 Pro 80ohm.
Sennheiser's HD650 would be better for Devin's type of music, but it's also a big step up in price and they should only be used inside as you need a good DAC to drive them.

Within budget the M40x (used or new) with HM5 brainwavz earpad upgrade for comfort is great, but the sound stage for gaming is a little closed in (it's a closed headphone after all), but has very neutral/balanced sound. How much experience do you have with headphones? Usually if you're just going for music listening it's good to have a little color to the headphones, maybe a little more bass or treble depending on your preferences. Also what kind of music do you listen to? A lot of people prefer a more flat sound, though, so it entirely depends.
The M50x can be a good starter pair. It has kind of boosted highs and pretty significantly boosted bass, not a lot of sounstage but solid detail and clarity. They're also closed back and provide a lot of isolation.
There's also the a few good AKG headphones like the K240 and K92 but they're pretty flat and AKG is known for not having a ton of bass.
I don't know how massdrop handles customs or if they ship to europe but the HE 4XX is basically a steal at ~$140 USD if you're able to put a little more money in. It's also open back, though.
You may love the HM5, though. They're not a bad headphone at all they just don't align with my preferences so I usually use them for their flat response rather than their musical capability. If something doesn't have enough bass you can also EQ it if nothing else. If you don't have a lot of headphone experience it can be hard to recommend headphones since I don't know what you like. My best advice is take advantage of the refund policy with amazon or something. Try out a pair or two and just send them back if you don't think you like them, just make sure you give it at least a few days if not a week to see if they grow on you.
Edit: I know it's not technically under 100 euro but the DT 770 is 114 on amazon which might be your best bet. Just prepare for pretty amped up high frequencies haha.

In terms of comfort, they barely fit my ears and mine are proportionally sized to my over 6' tall body. They also make my ears sweat. They're okay but you can find other brands that are similar for a little less.

I bought the ATH-AD700 (no longer sold) for their accurate sound quality and high quality comfort. They're not exactly portable, so I don't get to wear them as much as I'd like to but they've been my favorite headphones for a decade now. I spent a stupid amount of time reading head-fi.org forum threads about headphone recommendations before picking the ATH-AD700 out and they did not lie about the pros and cons related to them.

DON'T buy "surround sound headphones". Invest in a good, quality pair of stereo headphones and buy a good soundcard that emulates a 5.1 environment with either Dolby Headphone or CMSS-3D (I prefer the latter).
I own and would highly recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, but the DT 990 Pro can be had for less. The main difference is that the DT 770 is closed whereas the DT 990 is open. With a closed headphone, others will not hear sound coming out of them as easily, which is good if you like to play late at night with others in the house. an open headphone allows for a better "soundstage", which basically means that it will sound "better" (this is highly subjective). I haven't used open headphones before so I can't pass judgment, but I love my 770s. I'm still unsure as to why there's such a price difference between the two, though.
As far as sound cards go, you want something that will do "simulated surround sound". Dolby Headphone and CMSS-3D are examples of this technology. I prefer CMSS-3D over DH, having used both. For CMSS-3D, you have to buy a Creative sound card -- I recommend the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium because it can be had for relatively cheap these days. They don't make it anymore, which is why you have to buy from eBay (they sell a refurbished one on Amazon, too).
If you buy the Titanium X-Fi, get the Pax Drivers. They are MUCH better than the stock drivers and make setup a breeze in comparison.

I describe the sound as mechanical, almost machine-like - again, great for electronic music with artificial synthesizers. But listening to high notes hurt like hell in the beginning until your ears get used to the piercing sound. Think nails screeching off a chalkboard.
The Fidelio X2, while open-backed, delivers amazing yet controlled bass. Unlike the DT 770, they work well for all genres of music because they have a more balanced sound signature. A pair of headphones suitable for true bassheads.
For headsets, I would recommend the Sennheiser PC 350's or PC 360's, depending on your preference. They are one of the few decent performers with little markup and an "affordable" street price.
If you go with headphones, the Audio Technica ATH-AD700's are great for gaming, as it has an excellent sound stage and are very clear (due in part to their minimal bass output). They are opened though, so there is very little isolation. For closed headphones, the beyerdynamic DT-770's are alright, I prefer them over my ATH-M50's, especially for gaming. If you want just a solid well-rounded pair of versatile headphones, give the HD 558's a listen. You can generally find Sennheiser products for much lower than their MSRP.

I use this one as my go to headphones for dialysis and work. They're a bit bulky and expensive, but they have a long cable and they're closed, so they isolate a bit, but they're not a sound isolating like for example sony. As to put them on, I have no issue if you just put one can on at the time and slide it on your head.
The DT770 Pro 80 seems like a good choice for you. Super comfortable, good bass and a wide soundstage for being a closed headphone.
The other replys are great recommendations, but if you can hold out and go a bit pricier, go for the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80ohm version. I bought a pair of them eight years ago and they've endured very many drops and are still absolutely perfect. You can find them cheaper elsewhere, I bought mine for ~$165 when I got them.
Oh definetely, the qpads are using audiophile grade headphones with a built in mic basically. However I would still suggest to buy the headphones from beyerdynamic and buy a seperate mic. Not only is it cheaper you also get the original headphones without tinkering from qpad.

They're about 100$ apart, and I'm looking for something that I can use basically everywhere (Bus, at school, gym, etc.) I'll be using it with a phone and/or my computer, no DAC.

No, dt990's are black for pro and silver for premium. I was mistaken though because i glanced at the amazon listing. The lighting makes it look grey, but i guess its the same weird black texturing

I think that might be your problem: you have air blowing from one fan directly at another at varying speeds. This can cause loud sound as air from one fan running at one speed hits the fan blades of another fan running at another speed. Can you try mounting your GPU's radiator in another spot, at least temporarily? If it gets quieter, that's your issue. Maybe even just un-mount the fan and let it sit at an angle inside the case for testing purposes?

That actually doesn't surprise me if the blower fan is kicking in to try to cool the entire card, which it wasn't designed to do. If the pump can be heard over headphones, however, that sounds like a bad pump.

I don't know how EVGA's warranty works overseas (warranties sometimes vary from country to country, depending on the manufacturer), but in the US EVGA will do what's called an advance replacement:
If this is an option for you I'd recommend doing it, but take photos and/or video of whatever you receive from them (maybe even a video of you opening the box and examining it) as well as whatever you send to them as I've seen complaints that different manufacturers (including but not limited to EVGA) have blamed customers for damage either caused in transit or while in the possession of the manufacturer. I cannot confirm or deny the legitimacy of these complaints, so better safe than sorry.

Totally unrelated, but I'd recommend considering some better headphones. Check out the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. They're available on Amazon UK for £122.00 and sometimes go on sale in the US; I can't speak for the UK. The 80 ohm version won't require an external amp, and the sound detail is amazing. In addition, the earcups go all the way around your ears so the pressure is spread more evenly across your skull rather than the cartilage of your ears. They're built like tanks and do a lot to isolate noise, both external sounds as well as preventing others hearing what's playing through the headphones. Note, however, that the sound from these headphones is extremely bright. (Louder, more detailed highs, as well as mids and lows.) I love that, but it's harsh to some folks' ears and can cause headaches. My personal opinion is that you can always adjust the sound to be less bright by using an EQ (hardware or software). Since you can never add brightness beyond what a headphone/speaker can produce I personally prefer to start with a bright set of headphones and adjust as needed. Your personal preference may vary, however.

Big Screen (free) and Virtual Desktop (not free), both on Steam and Oculus Home, both have a "theater experience" with Big Screen simulating "reflected light" generated from the movie screen onto the virtual theater I believe. I don't remember if either supports 4k 3D BluRay yet. Unfortunately, the fidelity of all released Headsets do not compare to IMAX. PiMax 8k might be able to bridge that gap in terms of clarity/quality, but isn't out yet (some reviews do exist). Worse yet, with 4k BluRay HDR movies finally being released, I don't think any headsets have any plans on supporting HDR sadly. Assuming you're fine losing HDR, Pimax 8k & 5k have a higher pixel count as well as a FOV of 200 degrees compared to Vive Pro's 110.

Even for just watching movies with very little movement, the Pimax's will most likely require a fairly powerful PC.
One thing I see overlooked too often is sound. I record music and mix other people's songs as a hobby, so sound is very important to me while watching movies or playing games. I love my home theater sound system, but investing into a dedicated headphone amp and a bass transducer is transcendent. I don't have any transducer installed into my couch, but I use a Buttkicker Gamer 2 transducer for my PC setup. The transducer is okay with my desktop speaker, but when I use my DT 770 with my Buttkicker, it's a completely immersive experience with sound and the tactile sensation of bass. I live in a house, so I don't have to work about vibrations from the transducer transfering to other floors or rooms, but is an issue in apparments. I've been meaning to isolate my Obutto R3V cockpit with medium soft rubber to stop vibrations transferring to the floor and the rest of my cockpit. Even without isolating my seat, the Buttkicker does an amazing job when I'm listening to music.
I'm still waiting on PiMax 5k kickstarter HMD to be released, but I'm hoping I can quit using my monitor completely with it.

So seeing you have a headset, the A40s. They aren't very good compared to price equivalent Of DT 990's and as well as DT 770s now I would highly suggest upgrading to a headphone and a modmic or blue yeti.
Comparisons
Headsets are generally really bad, the A40s/A50s are ok, they aren't great but not bad. What I would do is move to headphones and a modmic. People have made this switch and love it. The DT 990s are stupid comfy, same for the DT 880s and DT 770s and any Bererdynamic headphones. They are so comfy, huge pads, deep cuffs, comfy, so much.
Open vs closed back
Headsets are generally closed back, however they have some issues with that. They tend to have bad audio positioning in the headset. They don't give spacial awareness and such.
Open headphones leak sound, so people around you can hear. The drivers are directly exposed or slightly covered. However they offer a lot better experience, much larger sound stage, much better audio positioning, and everything better overall.

Now for headphones, they don't come with mics so you have a few options. You can get a Blue Yeti mic, a modmic, Audio Technica AT2020, or similar. I'll list a few

I am relatively new to headphones, but am looking to take the step of purchasing some dt770s , but am unsure of the differences between the 80ohm and the 250ohm. But then there is the limited edition. I would like to use them with my ipod at times, and am trying to avoid spending more money for an amp, because I really don't want to go above £120-130. So would the limited edition be the best for me because of their lower impedance (I think the Limited Editions are 32ohm?) Are there other factors to take into account?

I'd take a look at the Beyerdynamic DT 770 for sure. They come in a little under budget so you have enough for an amp if you go for the higher impedance versions. From what I've heard, these headphones have pretty great sounding bass and as a bonus feel like pillows on your ears.

Mic: Audio Technica AT2005 - A great mic that a lot of let's players use (draax, zueljin, kingdaddydmac, etc.). It also accepts xlr or usb inputs (more on that at the end). I use the atr2100, which is the same mic, just different color and warranty. The at2005 is cheaper by about $25 right now, so buying today, that's the one I'd get. It's a dynamic mic, so it blocks out sound that's not in front of it. Much better for noisy environments. Condenser mics like the blue yeti will pick up a lot more background noise. Other mics I've used are the V-Moda Boompro, which works with most headphones that have detachable cables (in my case the M100s) and sounds good, but changing the cable for when I didn't want to use the mic became old pretty fast. You can leave it attached, but then the boom mic is there all the time. I've also used the antlion modmic 4.0 and can't recommend it. It has white noise unless you use a usb soundcard, the cable is stiff and it's kind of expensive compared to full fledged mics. $56
Stand: Pyle PMKSH01 Suspension Boom Scissor Microphone Stand - A decent cheap stand. Nothing special, but it comes with an integrated xlr cable. I use this one, but may upgrade to the Rode PSA1 ($100) later on. The shock mount will not fit the at2005 however. $21
Shock Mount: On-Stage MY420 - A great shock mount that fits the at2005/atr2100. Shock mounts reduce noises from bumping your desk or tapping on your keyboard; things that may reverberate to your mic. It might not even be necessary if you're not a heavy handed gamer or if your desk is made of a thick, dense material. $25
Wind Filter: On-Stage Foam Ball Windscreen - Reduces wind/breathing noises as well as minimizing plosives. Not a complete necessity, but extremely cheap and it does help, so why not? $3

Headphones: Very subjective to user preference. I prefer closed vs open for noise isolation. Here's what I've used:
Audio Technica ATH M50: Good (not great) headphones for ~$100. Considered the standard by many, but to me they're just good. $155
V-Moda M100: Excellent sound with very potent bass. They make the M50s sound muddy in comparison. HOWEVER, the M100s have a design flaw where the "wings" (the parts above where you adjust the headphones) will crack over time. It happened to two pairs of my M100s. Unacceptable for the price of these headphones, regardless of how good they sound. $222
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohm: Amazing. Potent bass like the M100s, but even a bit clearer. Very wide soundstage for closed headphones. I paid $219 for mine and don't regret it a single bit. I might grab another pair at the price they're currently at. $150
All that adds up to around $261 + tax choosing the DT770s, and will be a killer setup for gaming. Far better than any "gaming" headset, and it even opens the option of streaming or let's play videos (the reason I got my setup). There is one more thing I'd add though, given the budget if you're serious about mic quality, and that's the $99 Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen. It's a usb audio interface that accepts xlr mics. It gives you a bit more control over the audio coming out of your mic and cleans up the signal so you get less "noise" from the usb interface. Quality is good without it, but with it, it's noticeably better.

You would need a separate mic but I picked up a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 80ohm pros during Prime Day for $120, coupled with a SoundBlaster E3 DAC I have been sucked into another world. The noise cancellation is phenomenal and bass is incredible, but doesn't drown out the highs either. Best part is I can take it on the go with my phone if I want, so the versatility is appreciated. For the uninitiated a DAC is an external amplifier that also converts sound from digital to analog, making it crisper without the noise interference that internal sound cards can produce. The E3 can really crank up whatever you're listening to.

A lot of pro-sumer headphones are horrible sounding to anyone listening critically. They are often extremely 'colored,' meaning that extra EQ or sound forming has been applied to make them sound "high definition" or, typically, bass-y and boomy as hell (I'm talking about Beats here).
Most audiophiles or musicians would want to use headphones with a more transparent sound that works to achieve the most accurate representation of the recorded or original content, as it was intended to be heard by the creator. That's where the issue of impedance comes in, because a lot of truly professional cans (with no internal sound forming or false amplification) will require more power to bring up the volume.
There are plenty that don't though, for instance the Beyer Dynamic dt770 can come in either 250 ohms or 80 ohms, the 80 ohm being more suited for being driven by consumer electronics.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO, they are great headphones, well built, sturdy and comfortable. I've used them for years. Well suited for all sorts of music and gaming, but around 120£. They sell them with different impedance levels, I recommend getting the 80 Ohm version, which could be driven by an on-board sound card, or the 32 Ohm ones if you want to use them with your phone.

Also, take care to get the DT 770 PRO, the DT 770 M are specialized drummers' headphones that do not work well with "normal" use.
The momentums are very meh, I can also recommend Beyerdynamic DT770s (which are very comfortable and closed instead of open) with a modmic, but you may need a dac/amp for them depending on your onboard audio. I'd recommend 100% actually DT770s with a Dac/Amp which will use Optical in from your PC and output through the jack on the front, when it comes to being used with your phone, you may have problems however, so if you can't afford to buy something like a FiiO A1 alongside it to power the headphones at the same time, you may want something else such as Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros.
I recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 770 + FiiO E10K if you have the coin.
Beyer is one crazy all over the map with prices brand. Unlike, say, Sennheiser who keeps a pretty tight grip on retail channels; you want to shop around.

I just bought Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm Studio Headphones, last week from Amazon, and boy do I like them, a lot. $232 CDN. I also bought a Antlion Audio ModMic Attachable Boom Microphone & Creative Sound Blaster E5 High-Resolution USB DAC 600 ohm Headphone Amplifier with Bluetooth, to go with them.
Not sure what you will be driving your cans with, so you may or may not want/need a headphone amp. Definitely think Beyerdynamics are worth a look. I've found that a proper set of headphones put gaming headsets to shame.
Just to let you know bluetooth and wireless headphones in general tend to be completely overpriced and have worse sound quality than most significantly lower priced headphones, so people won't really recommend you anything.
If you don't mind conceding wireless headphones I can suggest the Audio-Technica ATH-A900x if you want something balanced and have a average/+ head, although some find the bass impact lacking (not me).
If you want something v-shaped then I'd recommend the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro.

I hear good things about the sennheiser 558, and 598s. I tried a pair of hte 555s once and they were not for me. Those were the lower quality ones though so the opinion may not be valid compared to the 8 series.
I have also heard good things about AKG (with a warning about the headband) and apparently these are really good for their cheap price.
However if I were choosing a pair I would probably go with these (actually...i havent price checked these in quite a while. I'm going to buy them right now)

You had picked the wrong soundcard, the DX would be for simulating surround sound on a stereo system. Confusing, I know. Asus is not making it easy for us.
I had the ATH-M50's and the bass is pretty shitty to be honest. I've asked around to some producers and they recommended These headphones they're in your price range and trust me they are amazing. The ear cups are suuuuper comfortable. Also the mixdowns I get off of them are noticeably better.
I'm also borrowing my dad's Sony MDR7506s for the next week or so to see how I like them. Immediately, I could tell that they produce a much nicer soundstage than my B&Ws. I'm still trying to get used to the difference in tone but I really like the Sonys. If they were the best within my price range, I would have no problem sticking with them.
If you're looking to get into a solid pair of headphones without spending so much, I'd recommend taking a look at the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. Get 250 ohm ($200) if you plan to use an amp, or 80 Ohm ($140) if you want to be able to drive them with a laptop or a phone. They sound phenomenal, are both cheaper and far superior to Beats, and will be a great introduction to audiophile headphones.
They won't compete directly with the Sennheiser HD 800, but they're also 1/6 the price. They're also built like tanks, and yet are far more comfortable than something like the Sony MDR-V6 or MDR-V7506, which are more compact. However, the comfort difference is huge and the fact that they sit around your ears rather than on them is both much more comfortable and better for sound isolation from your surrounding environment. These are very popular with folks running budget home recording studios.
Bluetooth: Sony XB650BT, has full controls on the right earcup and the battery lasts for about 20-30 hours of playback on a full charge.
Wired: They don't have inline controls, but the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohm. They sound fantastic and are SUPER comfortable. The cord is kinda long for my taste, but you can't go wrong with that German craftsmanship.

If you are hooking up directly to your desktop you won't need a DAC. For most headphones you won't need a amplifier either, especially in the <$150 range.

If you are recording anything with a mic while wearing headphones get the Beyerdynamic DT770 80 ohm. M50s are way too bass heavy and will make any mix come out sounding lean on other headphones (except perhaps Beats by Dre or Skullcandy). The DT770 is slightly V-shaped in sound, meaning the bass and treble are slightly accentuated over the mid-range, but this is pretty standard for a closed back headphone.
If you won't be recording anything through a mic while using these headphones get the Sennheiser HD579 or Sennheiser HD598. Either of these will be neutral with great comfort and detail.
The best mixing will always be done using studio monitors (typically 2 powered studio monitors) first, then tested with a nice pair of headphones, and finally a pair of Apple earbuds (if your mix sounds nice on those then they will sound fine on anything). I personally have a pair of JBL LSR305 and would highly recommend them for music listening, but would recommend the Yamaha HS5 for mixing since they are more neutral. If you decide to invest in a pair of studio monitors in the future you will need to hook them up to an audio interface, otherwise they will hiss at you. I use a Scarlett 2i2, but if you aren't using the XLR inputs for instruments/mic then any audio interface will do.

Some say they require an amp, I bought a small FiiO E12 which is small and portable, but it's not required to get them up to a good listening volume. I listen to everything from Rap/Hip-hop to EDM to Classical on these guys, had them 2 years. Might upgrade to the Alpha's soon.
If you want more of a lifestyle headphone, I'd go with something like the Sennheiser Momentum or the VMODA M100
People also rave about the Beyerdynamic DT 770, someone else will have to weigh in on those, I've never heard them. I hear they are on the bassier side, but not overwhelming. Not sure what Ohm option will suit you best, so do some research on that if you're interested in those cans.
Finally, if you want to go cheaper, bought these for my buddy last year to use as office cans, I'm pretty sure he just never takes them off. Very neutral sound, light, but durable, I love them but my ears stick out and touch the drivers which gets irritating after a while. Part of the reason I went with mad dogs is there's plenty of room for my Dumbo sized satellite dishes.

Yes, especially so since it's not going to be used in a professional environment. In a room and placement terrible for recording, and in use in live situations by incompetent users, you need to compensate as much as possible with hardware.
Get a near field condenser microphone with a table stand, and you're at least not going to be the most hated mouth breather of your gaming friends. Someone mentioned a Blue Snowball, I don't have any experience with that model, but it sounds like an OK option. I've got an Samson C01U and a Sinn7 mPod, both in from the $70-80 range, but they're 6-7 years old now, so I'm sure there are newer models available. $50-100 on microphone and $150-300 on headphones is nothing for something lasting a decade or two if maintained and taken care of. And in that context, get a pair of entry level professional grade headphones from one standard brands and a model that focuses on repairs. An OK example is BD DT770 Pro where you can order replacement parts all over the world from service partners and replace almost any part that might break or just need replacement because of extended use. I've got a 10 year old pair I use at work, and have replaced the pads three times and several other parts as well to maintain perfect order.
Thanks for the information! I found a link for the dt770s on amazon for $30 more. I may go with them because I have prime and amazon is much more reliable. But one thing I noticed was there is a gray and black color. They both look identical other than the earcups, and the black one being limited edition. Am I missing anything, or is it just $50 more for black earcups?
I work in the film industry doing post-production management. Our company uses these babies, as they're pretty well balanced for audio work. Just understand that they're meant for editing, so you won't be getting an over-powered bass, in case you're into that. But if you care about audio work, these are really great. I've loved them so far.

Creative Aurvana Live! as your cheapest option, currently $45 at Amazon. A great budget basshead set of cans: bass is very, very strong, but the rest of the ranges are pretty nice, although the mid-range is slightly recessed.
At the height of your budget is the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro. They're known for having a fantastic bass response, and are recommended a lot in this sub. Similar properties to the Aurvana Live: bass is just great, midrange is recessed a bit, highs are clear. They're also very comfortable.
Make sure to get the 32 Ohm or 80 Ohm version (that I linked), and not a version with a higher impedance: the more Ohms the impedance is, the tougher it'll be to drive. The 250 Ohm version would require an external amplifier.

I could not tell you about the sound leakage tbh. I never had anyone complain while I was living at home and using them, but I don't remember how much I used them in public areas of the house.
The only closed headphone I have much experience with besides the Fostex is the Beyerdynamic DT-770, which is very comfortable but again will not have the best soundstage for gaming because it's closed. I would get the 80 ohm or 32 ohm version if you don't have a dedicated amp. Also the current Amazon price is pretty high, I've seen them for much lower ($130ish).

(a). Independent volume control for both chat (via the mic) and in-game and audio output (via the headset).
(b). No compromises: Should you prefer to repurpose this headset for professional audio production, say, in a studio, any high-powered DAC will drive it.
Note that the ESS Sabre Audio is rated to drive up to 600 Ohm headsets, so it should be able to drive anything in the market. The reason I recommend the 80 Ohm over the 250 Ohm headset is because the perceived audio quality between the two headsets is almost identical, for a much more affordable entry point.

No problem, I don't really recommend headphones as it really depends on how they will be used and what people are looking for from them. If you're going to be at a desk and like nice, rich, full sounding music then I'd say go with something like DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms, my favourite headphones I've ever used. You'll need to save a bit more but it's all personal preference.

At £100 you have some options.
If you want to save some money the Creative Aurvana Live are excellent value.
Closer to £100, the Beyerdynamic DT990 pro are likely the best available to you. They're open-backed and have a distinct treble-focused sound which you might not like. If you need to be isolated from your surroundings or don't want other people to hear what you're listening to, they may not be suitable.
The DT770 pro is an alternative if you need something closed back. They're along the same lines, limited from being closed back, but still better than 95% of what £100 will get you.
The SIVGA SV005 are also rumoured to be quite good value, but unlike the others I've listed I haven't heard them myself. It's another option to look into.
All of these have different strengths and limitations, you'd do yourself a favour to look into reviews before buying; multiple reviews - don't trust anything a single person says, look for what people agree on.
Just stay away from headsets marketed towards gamers, Razer, Logitech, Turtle Beaches, they're almost always poor value, poor quality, overpriced, and fragile.
Seeing those logitechs has me worried considering the otherwise near top-end build and matching budget. Sound is basically one half of your overall audiovisual experience, and spending a measly 2% of your budget on sound (even less if you factor in a proper display) davaluates all the money spent for better graphics a lot in my opinion.
Keep also in mind that competent audio equipment will basically last you a lifetime so that's an investment you won't have to repeat, unlike the rest of the system which will become obsolete and need replacement eventually if you want to maintain high/ultra settings at high resolution and FPS.
For speakers, a commonly recommended part is this. They're not terribly expensive (again, you're probably never going to replace these) and will wipe the floor with the logitech set in any relevant metric like it's not even funny.
If you prefer headphones then these coupled with this amplifier can be considered a moderate cost solution with no major compromises.

What would you like from your headphones? As I said I want them to be a bit of allrounder. I want to clearly hear the voices when I'm
voice chatting, Clear sound when playing music and Good sound when gaming. And since I'll be wearing them several hours a day, they should be comfortable.
I have an average (towards big because of hair) head and average ears but I do wear glasse so maybe that's a concern if the grip is too tigh.
I know all this "requirements" mean they won't be the best at anything but I'm not an audiophile either....yet, I guess.
I've been researching a lot of reviews, videos, forums and I've seen a lot of recomendations, and situations similar to mine.
So I thought asking here with the template would help me to nitpickc and better tailor the buy for me, since I'm spending that much (for me anyway, I know this hobby can go pretty crazy pretty fast).
In fact in my initial research I wanted to spend max 200€ inclusing the modmic (so that left 130-150 for the headphones) but looking and researching had me raising the dough destined to the cans by a bit everytime
just in case "this new ones they recommend maybe are much better".
I have a list of what I found after a lot of research. I don't even know if any of those will be any good for my situation. There are two "leagues" of cans there as you'll see,
but those really cheap ones I included because I see them recommended a lot as "sound as headphones double or triple their price". Maybe that's BS but... maybe not and I can save me some money
The ones over 200€ I might consider them if they are really, REALLY much, much, much better than any of the other options.
Since going over 200 would have me waiting a bit more to get the cash.

When I was working as an audio QC engineer, I was wearing headphones with glasses for 8+ hours every day and listening at pretty high volumes. I use the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80ohm) and they never get uncomfortable or fatiguing even after wearing them for many hours. Also they sound damn good and have awesome low-end response I've never heard matched on other headphones, and they're pretty affordable.

Hey there. I'm very satisfied with it, actually. I love it. Added a secondary 1TB HDD and another 8GB RAM to it.
I returned my first one because it had dead pixels, and this second one had a loose trackpad but as time passed it has fixed itself.
The cooling is good. I have a cooling pad for it just in case though. I'm browsing on Firefox right now with about 10 tabs open, listening to music while having Visual Studio open and it is all silent and cool.
Keep in mind that I have these headphones. I can't hear the fans at all with them on but from the few times I played some games without the headphones, it wasn't disturbing me much. You wouldn't have a problem with the games you play.

Sounds good to me. In a budgetary pinch, a [Sony lapel mic] (https://www.amazon.com/Sony-ECMCS3-Omnidirectional-Stereo-Microphone/dp/B0058MJX4O) might be considered an option as well if picking up room noise isn't a big problem - those little units are rather good quality, actually, but are completely omnidirectional vs. the cardioid mics in the Modmic and Boompro, so you get a lot of pickup for stuff like computer fans, keyboards, noise in the room, etc.

Hm, so, overall, wanting something more clear than the G930 - unlikely to be hard if the G930 sounds anything like the lower-end Logitechs I've heard, which had terrible treble - but with fairly substantial bass, and keeping outside noise out is a plus.
The first thing that makes me think of at your price point is the [Beyerdynamic DT770] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MNAAI/), specifically the lower impedance 80 ohm variant which will play nicer with the voltage-limited integrated audio circuitry of your motherboard. The DT770 is something of a classic, having been a studio mainstay for more than three decades at this point, and it's also a rather durable design. By [measurements] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/BeyerdynamicDT770.pdf), it's a "v-shaped" headphone, in that its bass and treble are both boosted vs. the midrange. The treble is sometimes a sticking point for people, however - I know several who find it harsh, and even I think it's a bit much for some music. The isolation is rather robust, particularly in the midrange, where things like voices (for example, children shouting) are located. The DT770-80 pops up for maybe $100-120~ used fairly regularly, but I can't find any active listings at a quick sweep around the usual locations. The bass is boosted, but not vastly so, and the boost is concentrated in the impact/"rumble"-boosting subbass region, rather than the higher bass and lower mids which often lead to a rather veiled or congested sound when boosted. The isolation, as with the DT770, is very robust. It's very easily powered, and would probably run easily off your cell phone and computer both. The main caveats here are twofold: one, it's rather expensive new - about $250 via most stores. This one is pretty easy to address, as it's fairly easy to find used for <$150 (for example, [this Audiogon listing] (https://www.audiogon.com/listings/over-ear-nad-hp50-2017-03-30-headphones-19382-west-chester-pa)). The second, however, is more individual and less easily addressed if it does afflict you: the HP50 is just a rather oddly-proportioned headphone, and many find it a bit uncomfortable, either due to the odd design of the headband, or the atypical proportions of the earpads. Some folks find it entirely comfortable, so this is definitely a matter of personal experience and preference, but it could be an issue since you can only fit it in budget buying used, and you can't return a used purchase if it's unergonomic like you can an Amazon buy.
On the open-backed side of things, an option you might consider is Philips' [Fidelio X1] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/boss-philips-fidelio-x2#qP2dtXW49LGw8MZq.97), which is a rather nice headphone for those liking a bassier tuning. It's bass-boosted, but not ludicrously so, and there's just a tad of treble boost to add a bit of life to the treble. Many, myself included, find it rather spacious in sound, relative to the rather closed-in headphones above. It's [fairly reasonably-priced used] (http://www.head-fi.org/t/840405/philips-fidelio-x1) as well (note: you need a Head-Fi account to buy via Head-Fi, though once you have one you should be able to just PM the fellow, bypassing the "buy/sell forums are for active poster" rule). It should also support the Boompro, whereas the others would need a Modmic or other separately attached mic, due to their lack of detachable single-entry TRS cables. The downside is that it's an entirely open design, and while it measures with [a bit of isolation] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/PhilipsFidelioX1.pdf), it's not really going to keep any meaningful amount of sound in or out. As a result, it might not be an ideal option for your usage, but since there's one in your price range used at the moment, and it meets several other criteria well, I thought I'd include it.
Here's a kinda unit fourth option: JBL's [Everest Elite Wireless 700] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/jbl-everest-elite-700-wireless-noise-canceling-over-ear-headphones#2AX4I1FT8MyL6vvz.97). It's a heckuva quirky design from an audio nerd standpoint - Bluetooth-equipped, active noise cancellation, integrated digital calibration to your ear, in general it profiles like a gadget marketed to consumers without much discernment in audio quality. But, there's a twist: the Elite 700 is actually a very competent design, as [the measurements attest] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/JBLEverestElite700WiredActive.pdf). It's a bit bass boosted, but in an entirely tasteful way, and honestly in active mode it may well be one of the better headphones in its price range. It even has an integrated mic, as a matter of fact. The active noise cancellation will also make it markedly better than any of the other mentioned units at keeping out outside noise. The drawbacks are twofold: First, it's about $300 new. This isn't a huge problem, it's a popular headphone from a major lifestyle brand, so you can find a lot of them used, including from major retailers [like B&H] (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/1240680/?gclid=Cj0KEQjwn_3GBRDc8rCnup-1x8wBEiQAdw3OAT0ESxzCWsKM1iwKueW6Bpgmswxf_gVQT_ASjZyXBuUaApxg8P8HAQ&amp;c3api=1876%2C92051677682%2C) which are within price range. The second, however, is larger: it's really a headphone that must be used with the power on, because a lot of its quality comes from the digital signal processing going on inside the unit - without it, you get [this] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/JBLEverestElite700WiredPassive.pdf), which while not terrible is definitely sub-standard. As a result, though you're not forced to use it on Bluetooth (it can be run "active" while wired), you will need to charge it regularly, and it can run out of juice on you, which I understand can be quite annoying. That said, it can also be used in wireless mode when wanted if your PC is bluetooth capable, and it's a rather well-rounded option for what you want, so it might be worthy of consideration, caveats aside.
There are other options in this price range which also might be good for your needs here - AKG K550, Sennheiser HD598C, V-Moda M100 - but I'm running up on the character limit, and I know I tend to produce boring walls of text when I talk audio, so I figure I'll cut it off at the four arguably strongest options, and go into the others if you ask for it.
Edit: the Elite 700 has two more minor notes: 1, it's easily confused with the Everest 700, which, though not terrible - it's basically equivalent to the passive mode of the Elite 700 as far as I know - isn't really very good. 2, the mic is in the headphone and connected via the TRRS cable, so you'd likely need a TRRS > 2xTRS splitter in the proper pinout to use it with your PC.

You're welcome. I'm a DT770 owner and they're one of my all time favorite headphones. Comfort is paramount and Beyerdynamic does a great job with that.
if you never needed the headphones to leave your desk the DT770s may be a better fit at a slight price premium. They were under $120 during the Christmas season.

I'm looking for some rather bassy headphones, but I don't want them to skip out on the mids and highs, you know. I've narrowed my search down somewhat to two pair. Right now, anyway, I'm open to suggestions.
So right now, I'm looking at the DT 770s and the Custom One Pros
From what I've heard, the DT 770s are great, but sibilance can be an issue. And I don't want to be losing out on overall sound quality with the COPs.
However, the COPs are on Massdrop at the moment, so they're ~$70 cheaper than the 770s, and they've got the little bass switch thing.
So, how do the 770s compare to the COPs? Should I be looking at another pair of headphones for my bassy needs?

Screw 'em. Experiment with something new. In fact, there have recently been many sales on the DT770s which completely obliterate the M50x's. I owned the 80 Ohm varient and can say for sure that they are an absolute steal for the money. (Bass extension is beyond anything I've ever heard.)
It says that the only difference between the Studio and the CLASSICS is the name. And the pros are better than the classics so I would return it if possible. Not OP, but I very much enjoy the sound of the HD600's. super easy to listen to and not harsh at all. Kind of expensive, since you need an aplifier to get the best sound of them, which just adds to the price. I have a few recommendations for under 150 dollar headphones.
If you're looking for some great open back headphones, I recommend the AD-700X. Very open, with an airy sound. I enjoy them the most for vocals. not much bass, however. I also really enjoy these for gaming. the design of them is a odd for headphones so they might not be the best fit for your head.
Another option is the SHP9500. also open and similar to the HD600's in that they handle almost all music well. Can't really complain on how they handle most things, except for maybe bass heavy music. All around good headphones. Super comfortable to wear too.
If you want some closed headphones, I recommend the DT-770's 80 Ohm. not as easy to drive as the 32 Ohm version, but still should be fine with almost anything. If you plan on getting an amp, get the 250 Ohm version. I love these because the bass response is absolutely fantastic. If you enjoy EDM, hiphop, or any genre that is bass heavy, these are a no brianer. these have fantastic sub bass that doesn't muddy up the vocals. Maybe not the best for all genre types, as the higher frequencies can be fatiguing for some people.
If you're looking for a AMP to start off with, I recommend the FiiO E10K. cheap, and powerful enough to drive most headphones, unless they're very power demanding like the HD600's. If you want to go all out, getting a Schiit Stack like OP, or an ODAC combo works too. that's gonna be like 200+ though, so I recommend starting with something smaller.
Also, be sure to use Amazon's warehouse deals to get a "used" pair of any of these if you can. save some money on it, and if they're broken or damaged, amazon will gladly refund you. really is a money saver.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-size/over ear. On-ears tend to hurt after wearing them for too long. Velvet ear cuffs are a big benefit too as they don't get as sweaty or start to fall apart as quickly.
Preferred tonal balance - Balanced. I listen to a lot of different music from rock/metal to dnb/house.
Past headphones - Only had gaming headsets so far: some cheap logitech ones that were alright, Sennheiser PC330 G4ME, Sennheiser G4ME ONE. Only problems with the first two were the ear cuffs falling to bits (and the mic dying on the PC330s), but the G4ME ONEs are incredible. I just need headphones with no mic to use in public.
Big fan of Sennheiser but I'm willing to branch out. Eyeing up DT770s but I'm not sure what the different Ohm rating changes.
I'd go for some good musical and bassy headphones combined with an add-on mic, this way you get the best of both worlds. Gaming headsets aren't really designed for music.
My first choice would be to combine the V-Moda M-100 with a BoomPro... but they come at £20 over budget (at least on Amazon, perhaps look around for deals, or ask stores if they're willing to sell the combo for £200).
Second choice is to slap a ModMic on a Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 32 Ohm or DT990 Pro 32 Ohm (can't find these on Amazon, look them up in other places). Don't get Premium models or DT880, those are open back. Don't get models over 32 Ohm if you say you're goingo to plug them into the PC and you don't have a dedicated amplifier. This combo comes in under budget.

DT770 (80 Ohm) is down to $155 on Amazon. Adding a Fiio E10K amp/dac and a modmic puts you over your $200 budget, but it should suit your needs for a while til you get bitten by the upgrade bug.
If you intend to use them with a portable device, however, you may want to opt for the 32Ohm version, as the 80's won't get very loud connected to a smartphone. Just know that the 80/250 version's velour earpads are quite a bit more comfortable, IMO, than the leatherette on the 32 version.

Honestly, good headphones are the best bang-for-buck item you can buy when you're starting out. My first pair of DT770 lasted me 12 years, and I thrashed those poor things.
By comparison, when people are shopping for monitor speakers, I generally tell people to avoid anything under about US$1500 - they all have to make compromises below that price..

Closed headphones for e-drums?
Budget - Up to 200€/270$.
Location - Finland. Can easily order from anywhere in the EU. Also traveling to New York for one week soon so I might get a pair there.
Source - Headphone amp on E-drums (Yamaha DTX500) and O2.
Requirements for Isolation - Some isolation would be nice, so I wouldn't hear the pads on the drums.
Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear, closed and with straight cable. I'd also prefer Beyerdynamic.
Preferred tonal balance - Balanced, with solid bass (gotta lock in with that bass guitar!).
Past headphones - Beyer DT-880, Sennheiser HD595
Preferred Music - Rock and some electronic.

IS there a over ear headphone under $200 USD that is middle of the road good for all types of music but has excellent bass for on the go (no AMP)?
i have the Grado SR80e they sound amazing for rock/heavy metal but i also listen to Classical music and some EDM sr80e lacks any bass what so ever.

Best closed headphones you can get that can do it all at that price.
If you are treble senstive then do not get them.

A DAC/AMP might help and it will increase the number of potential upgrades in the future by opening up the possibility of owning higher impedance headphones, but the improvement probably won't be as large as buying a new set of headphones. Despite what some here will say, not all gaming headsets are bad, they just tend to be overpriced for what they offer.
The M50x is probably not good for gaming. It has a very compact soundstage and I think you'd find it's pretty unpopular around here. (though there are some who still like it) If you're interested in a closed-back headphone for gaming in that price range, look at the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80 ohm) - though you'd probably want an amp to get the most out of that too.
