If you think you will be wanting to add speakers within the next two to three years, I would go ahead and buy a 5.1 receiver. You can get 5.1 receivers at very good prices. To save money you could look into a refurbished Denon or other brand:

There are also other great sources for refurbished products that carry warranties.

If I was buying a 5.1 system, I would also consider going ahead and adding a center channel speaker. I have found that it is easier to watch movies at a lower volume and hear the dialogue so long as there is a center channel speaker. You would be running a Left, Center and Right speaker setup to start. And then just add a Subwoofer and Left and Right Surround later.

That Bose is going to suck in that size of a room especially with just the one speaker and bass module.

3.0 setup Just three speakers and an AVR

  • AVR - Denon x1000 Refurb $250

  • Speakers - 3 BIC America FH6-LCR $105 ($315 total) I like these because they are efficient and should be loud. I don't normally like horns but with a room that large you might want them for the efficiency. These will also reach down to 40Hz so you don't need a sub right away. I would consider getting some stands for the main pair just to get them to the right height.

3.1 setup If you wanted to add in a sub you'll have to step down in the speakers and AVR.

  • AVR - Yamaha RX-V377 $200

  • Sub - BIC F12 $205

  • Speakers - 3 BIC AMERICA DV-52CLRB $70 ea You'll be slightly over budget but I think having the MTM setup on the mains will help with the room size.
