Picking Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, and good/fair video quality dash cams is a lot less hassle, above I listed only Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, good/Fair video quality dash cams, but there are Excellent video quality, Fair/poor build quality, lackluster parking mode dash cams out there that is worth knowing about.   So If I was going to spend money, I would pick: The Transcend 32GB Drive pro 520 or if I wanted a better IR spread, BlackVue DR650S 2CH IR, or Thinkware F770 CH IR.
  
  If I was going for price, I would pick: the Xiaomi Yi Dash cam, it doesn't have IR, it should be taken out of the vehicle when not in use: Lipo batteries crack/leak/swell/ect and lens can spin around causing out of focus problem. There is no lack of problems with the Yi, heat problem, 165 ultra wide angle lens is too wide, causes fish eye, motion blur, and distorts distance/speed, build quality issues, not discreet. However if you take it out of the car when not in use, it is a runner. -
  
  You can apply: Paint, or apply shelf liner - do not cover the vents. This extra step may void warranty, and may reduce the lifespan of the dash camera it self - Black heats up quicker than silver.
  
  If I were to pick a dash cam for normal use: pointing towards the road: Thinkware F50 1CH or BlackVue DR4501 CH.
  
  If I wanted a dual camera: well I would have to list them, and I haven't yet, and I am at 8000+ characters out of 10,000 for this post.

Get something small and portable like this. I never leave mine in my car and sometimes don't realize I still have it in my pocket until hours later.

I simply don't understand what good all this data serves What advantage does the GPS and directional data that you can't otherwise determine from the footage from a standard bodycam? You can use the footage from a body cam to pin point exactly where the officer was standing and what they were aiming at.

The dash cam in my car is no bigger than a tic-tac box. I can totally see the usefulness of such a device attached to the rail on a handgun. Add a magnetic switch that activates the camera when the gun is drawn out of the holster and you have a record of 1080p video and great audio of the incident. The set up would cost ~$100 per gun and you could retrofit it onto any gun that has a rail.

I'll recommend this one because it fits right under your rear view mirror, you'd barely know it's there. Some of them can be kind of bulky and distracting. The video quality is nice as well- test video

Is there a time limit to doing it? 7 years accident free and I got into 2 last year, neither of which were my fault, and as you say, I didn't ask so nobody volunteered that info. First accident was in Jan. 2015 and 2nd was in Sept. Both times my car was fixed by their company.

Also might as well add a LPT while I'm at it: If you don't have one, get a dashcam. Got one for Xmas 2014 and it was the sole reason I didn't have to hassle when I had my first accident. As soon as they saw the video they cut me a check. Here's my current one.

The camera mostly used on that small frame would be a Mobius Cam.
