But it's not even in a sale. The daily deals say "Deal of the Day" instead of "Price" like here and other on-sale items list a "With Deal" price and the price without the sale e.g. this.

Not sure if it's exactly what you mean, since I use dustbuster as a catchall term for hand vac and others may not ... but this thing hasn't done me wrong. https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-Dustbuster-Cordless-CHV1410L/dp/B006LXOJC0

(Duh, I just realized dustbuster is literally in the product name so it prob is what you were referring to. Anyhow).

Its best feature is that it picks up kitty litter that doesn't then shake back out when you turn it off. My maintenance guys gunked mine up with drywall dust and it still rinsed clean and works like new. Charges quickly, sits and goes for long times without needing plugging in. I'm really pleased with it.

The only downside is that the slim head that slides out is a little touchy/either doesn't lock in place well or locks too well and is hard to slide, and the little whiskery bit for carpets is kind of eh. But it's a tough little bastard on cat hair and all the crap I spill in my kitchen constantly. Plus SoCal interstate dust through that comes in constantly through the windows. Thumbs up from me.

Don't live on the ground floor or lower! I can't remember every having bug problems when living on the 2nd floor or above.

If you need to cover a larger section of floor, Amazon also sells gym style floor tiles. They're basically the same as the kid ones but a little thicker and without any pattern. They're usually cheaper too.

I also recommend that people add a small hand vac to their registries. I have this one and with a toddler it gets used several times a day (by both of us!).

I'd recommend making a checklist, something like:

  • Phone charger
  • Vacuum the seats and floors (love this guy)
  • Check/remove everything from all cupholders / seat backs / door pockets
  • Windex passenger windows
  • Clear out trunk (these are great )
  • Fill tank

This one is fantastic for litter, that's almost all I use it for.

This is probably the best for that price range. Plus, you can use it for your home. It's handy to have around.

I use a long-handled Swiffer duster thingie (it traps dust instead of just moving it around and has an extendable handle so I can reach up high or down low (without bending over).

That being said, air filters will make a big difference at least with circulating dust if not pet hair. If you have central air/forced air heat (ducts) make sure there are good filters on the main unit and they are changed regularly. We have electric heat so this isn't an option for us, but since I have dust mite and pet dander allergies, I have a powerful HEPA air filter for the bedroom. For general cleaning, floors are vacuumed with a Dyson (which has lifetime HEPA filters) - including hardwood and tile, we never sweep just vacuum, since it seems faster and better gets all the cat fur (we have 3 cats). We have the Dyson Animal upright, which we got refurbished to save money. I also recently got a DustBuster with an extendable nozzle, which is great for getting dust/debris on surfaces and in between fully vacuuming the rooms. It doesn't have HEPA filters, but does have filters that seem to trap dust well. This is what I have: http://www.amazon.com/DECKER-CHV1410L-Lithium-Cordless-Buster/dp/B006LXOJC0/

Thanks for the response.

Can you elaborate on how exactly cat litter damages a vacuum? We just bought a new Sebo vacuum that we're happy with, but since it was quite expensive, we're trying to find a separate machine to use for the litter.

The Whoosh looks nice, but event that's big. We're really looking for something like this: http://www.amazon.com/DECKER-CHV1410L-Lithium-Cordless-Buster/dp/B006LXOJC0

Should we just assume that anything we buy would break down quickly due to the litter and just go with the cheapest option that would be powerful enough to suck up the litter?

I wish i could recommend the vacuum we own but it's sadly way too pricey. If you're interested in the type it's a miele canister vacuum, I highly recommend it because they work so well but it's quite pricey. I think the lowest price is $299.

For ones that aren't that high priced you might try out this handheld vacuum to quickly suck out any pet hair that may be on furniture.

If you're looking for a larger vacuum that is upright and a lift-away this one might be useful to you. It's lightweight and comes with pet tools.

If upright vacuums aren't you're thing you might like this canister vacuum. It's compact and appears to have an easy empty dirt tank so you might not need to buy vacuum bags which will save you some money.

You should add this adorable little HP pillow to your wishlist :D

My mother bought my wife and I one of these from Black and Decker. I've been vacuuming grinds with it for a year, no problems. I've only gone as fine as a Bodum Bistro grinder can go though, so if you have something that goes much finer, perhaps it would jam this thing up.
