Hi /u/19751975 - I started out with a Canon (T2i) and now own a Blackmagic (Pocket Cinema Camera) - and my advice to you, if you were planning to spend [$1995 for a BMCC EF] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C89ZVR8/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00C89ZVR8&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20), is to get a [$1698 Panasonic GH4] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00I9GYG8O/?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&condition=new&creative=390957&keywords=Panasonic%20DMC-GH4&linkCode=ur2&qid=1404729015&sr=8-1&tag=battleforthew-20) and a [$32 EF to MFT adapter with built-in aperture control] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KG4QKC/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007KG4QKC&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20) [Referral Links] instead.
Why? Because the $1995 for the BMCC is just the beginning of what you would have to spend - you'll need an external monitor or EVF because its LCD is so hard to see, it doesn't have simple features you're used to (e.g. the ability to delete clips in-camera), you'll need external batteries - and you'll absolutely need to learn to color grade in post. Don't get me wrong - the results can be worth it - but shooting with Blackmagic cameras can be a lot of work.
And, although [smaller and lighter] (http://camerasize.com/compare/#154,381) than your 7D, the GH4 has all-metal splashproof construction and doesn't mind getting drizzled on. The Blackmagic, on the other hand, should not be allowed to get wet.
With a 4K GH4 and Canon EF mount lenses you can get results like this:

http://vimeo.com/98805793 (shot w Nikon and Canon mount lenses)
http://vimeo.com/96838322
This camera has higher resolution than the BMCC, has 1080/96p slow motion and is much much easier to shoot with.
You can see more examples of what the GH4 can do on the "GH4K" group I moderate over on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/groups/gh4k
And it's a pretty good still camera too:

Hope this is helpful!
