Not necessary what-so-ever, but I am in my first apartment as well (almost two years now) and I have had this for about 2 months. Everyone that comes over LOVES it, and me and my lady just lay in bed and enjoy the light show that goes with whatever music we play :)
This is the one I bought, the one that best fit into my budget and met my needs, but I think there are plenty options out there. Edit: apparently they now have a wifi version of it too, that one might be better.
