After being out of school for almost a year I finally decided to pick up some LSAT prep books and guides.

Today has been a "rain day" at work, so I've been sitting in a Starbucks adjacent to my site since around 8:30am waiting for calls/the rain to stop.

Would've been a perfect day for studying, but I forgot the textbooks at home, so I've just been reading the news/doing some early Christmas shopping on Amazon (sorry independent book stores).

Also, I had a really crummy weekend and thought I was gonna get drunk with some friends, but I didn't, so here I am at four weeks sober. Whaddap.

EDIT: These Bose headphones are marked down from $295CAD to $149CAD. Worth it?

Open offices suck. I'm in one right now. I don't have ADHD but I do have a neurological condition with some overlapping symptoms.

  • The best step you can take to improve the open office that requires no buy-in from anyone else is to buy and use noise-canceling headphones. I use these, they're great, with the sort of job you get from an economics PhD you can afford them: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VW7U8X4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 . I normally listen to music, if words are distracting to you, you can either use nothing and just cut out background noise, or some controllable background noise.
  • Get some drugs. Seriously. A a decent psychiatrist will work with you to find something that works and has few or manageable side effects. As an adult you have far more control over this process than you did as a teenager and your psychiatrist is likely to believe you if you say something isn't working.

Other steps to improve an open office require buy-in from other people.

  • A culture of being quiet. Sounds like you don't have one, but ideally in an open office, people get close and speak softly. If you need to have an extended conversation or conversation with more than one person you go to a conference room. Assuming you have conference rooms you can at least suggest you do so when you start the conversation so there's less background noise.

I understand, however I'm asking about the inline controls and which model you have. See amazon

The inline controls are designed for Apple devices. There is also a model designed for use with Android based devices, which is less expensive at Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Acoustic-Cancelling-Headphones/dp/B00VW7U8X4?th=1 Either will work with anything that has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

So, transformation doesn't happen over night. It takes some time to learn the skills, and more time to use them consistently and more time to learn to come back to them when you stop using them. Support is always helpful, but it shouldn't feel like baby sitting.
You might want to look into getting an ADHD life coach as a primary means of support as you learn to work with the diagnosis and getting your life on track like you want it to be.

Also, there are many many many many resources and ideas, and tricks and tips that can help out with your ADHD out there. Some that I personally have found helpful: The 5 Second Rule, The Pomodoro Technique, Getting Things Done, Mindfulness Meditation, The Bullet Journal, Exercise, The Power of Habit, Xcards, Noise Cancelling Ear Phones, a solid morning routine, and more I can't think of off the top of my head. You can pick and choose what seems most helpful at the moment, and there are many other ideas always floating around /r/adhd as well.

I followed your (very helpful) advice about the settings, however it doesn't seem to be as loud as it should be? I have a pair of wire bose headphones and they sound louder and richer than the Arctis Pro Wireless does. I did some googling and I found an article that has you turn off the volume cap. I did that but it still seems on the softer side when next to the bose headphones; my wife has some quiet comfort II headphones that are bluetooth but are similarly louder- is this something I need to resolve through equalizer settings or is there something I'm missing? Regarding chatmix I see a spectrum between game and microphone but I don't see a means of turning off chatmix outright?

The Bose QuietComfort 25 headset is on sale on amazon.ca for $229, $100 off. I had been looking at Sennheiser HD 598Cs, but are the Boses worth it for the extra $70?

I'd be primarily using them as a PS4 gaming headset, but only for party chat, no game audio. As I understand it, the 3.5mm cable for both those headsets have a built-in mic, which I'm hoping will suit my purpose?

I'd also be taking them on planes once or twice a year, using them on a laptop to watch TV/movies.

Comfort is my top priority, being able to wear them for a few hours at a time without hurting my ears.

I'm a complete noob at buying headphones, I've just used cheap junk in the past that hurt my ears, so I'd like to spend some money on something that will be good quality, and last a while. I'd be willing to consider other recommendations as well, as long as they're not open back so I can use them in public.

I mean yeah i'm sure it's bad ass. Idk if it's worth it over the 80 dollar version. I play electric guitar and own multiple tube amps and have been very far down the rabbit hole of audiophile money-spending and have largely come to the conclusion that, for me, something like 300 dollar headphones aren't worth the extra cash for sound quality alone. As far as build quality goes, that's a little easier to tell, but all Sennheisers are gonna have excellent build quality so I wouldn't get the more expensive one just for that.

To be honest, if you're in the 300 dollar range, I strongly suggest checking out one of Bose's electronic noise cancelling models. My buddy has a pair and they're so cool. You put on the headphones and you're like "damn that's pretty quiet" and then you flip the noise cancelling switch and it's like you've been transported to space. I know Sennheisers are an ultra cool brand and Bose is kinda normie but if I had to choose between sheer audio quality and really solid audio quality+fancy noise cancelling, i'd get the noise cancelling. Will edit an amazon link in to this comment after posting it.

EDIT: Here's the one. For some reason there is a model for Apple devices and a model for Android devices. I assume that's due to Apple getting rid of the headphone jack. Make sure you buy the one for Android if you're using it with your PC.
