Not really beat up at all. They can take more than that. What happened was, you're hid bulb needed to cool down before it could fire back up. Might I suggest something that I found only after the heartbreak of week 6 flowering that took a 112F day + 1000w with no AC....yeah?
Everyone that runs an HID should have one!
If you are worried about a thermal overload- get yourself a C.A.P. High Temp Shutdown & 15-Minute Delay controller. I've got one of these hooked up to the trigger cord on the lighting controller.
If you are concerned about fire. Pick-up a flame defender.
Both of these products give me a piece of mind when I'm away.
