first of all you buy a video card with 3 displayports. who the fuck needs 2 dp and 2 hdmi.

second of all, the usb c is displayport alternate mode. buy this https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Aluminum-Compatible/dp/B07F17ZHJY

If you have a USB-C port that has a "DisplayPort alt mode" aka supports "video out", this is the only adapter that I've found works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F17ZHJY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The NVIDIA PhysX page needs to show a DisplayPort connected to the NVIDIA chipset for the above to work, and it needs to support DisplayPort 1.2 or better.

I've been using a usb-c to display port adapter for a while now, both with a 144hz monitor and the index. It has to be a usb-c with video capible port for this to work though.

The one I used is here: Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort Adapter (USB C to DP Adapter) DisplayPort 1.4 Support up to 8K Resolution - Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible with MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 13, 15, Surface Book 2 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F17ZHJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_1XJrDbVS8RJ7A

Edit: Just realized this is likely not the part you're looking for but just in case if your display port is USB C...

This one works for me:

I just went through this, you need a displayport to thubderbolt dongle. I bought this one and it works like a dream on my MSI GS75 Stealth Thin.

Super helpful - thank you!

Wow that MCDP2900 is a $6+ part! No wonder these adapters cost so much.

I found a few other vendors that appear to have the same specs. The Lenovo one is curious given its price advantage. Wonder what chipset its using.

You need to get one that has a lot of bandwidth. This one works with the Rift S and Cosmos, will likely work for you as well assuming you are connecting it to the usb-c connected to a graphics card:

I'm considering getting a Razer Blade Advanced Pro 17 which has a Thunderbolt 3, so curious to see how these discussions go. I'm wondering if this one would be a safer bet.

Yea, Monitor sales teams are shitty about not specifying things like that. Youll probably need a USBc to displayport adapter. I highly recommend the Cable Matters adapter that supports 8K for future use.

chaining adapters is always sketchy. the key is finding an adapter that supports DP 1.3 or higher. i have used the following to connect reverb on multiple thunderbolt laptops with success:

Which adapter are you using? This one did not work for me https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G26KJB6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just ordered this one and hoping it works. It actually says Rift S on the title so I'll find out this Friday if I need to return my headset. My port is a Type-C USB 3.1 Gen 2 with DisplayPort combo.

u/Kagemusha-SA · 1 pointr/oculus

What about using the USB-C Port? https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Aluminum-Compatible/dp/B07F17ZHJY/ Or does the card not go through that?

u/KisatoVR · 1 pointr/oculus

Yes that laptop will support Rift S so long as you purchase an adapter compliant with DisplayPort 1.2 or higher.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F17ZHJY/ref=emc_b_5_t This adapter should work with your Zephyrus S given it's compliant up to DisplayPort 1.4.

It's a pain point I regret picking up my Zephyrus M instead of the S, as mine only supports up to DisplayPort 1.2 and I'd have loved to use the HP Reverb (which requires DisplayPort 1.3, so my laptop for that is out'a luck T_T)

One issue worth noting though: I DO have to unplug the Rift before booting Windows; for some reason the OS crashes during boot if it’s plugged in. Not sure if it’s a cable/adapter issue (I use this to connect to the Thunderbolt 3 port), or something else, but it seems it’s a known issue. In any case, only a minor annoyance!

I have the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED and the Index works fine with the usbc on left side of the laptop that supports display port 1.4.

Here is the adapter I am using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F17ZHJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5BYADbZSK6K04

Maybe try this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F17ZHJY/ref=emc_b_5_i

About the same price, but says 8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz. They just need to pass the signal through properly, so it's not about the adapter actually being able to process anything, but maybe the "8K" carries an additional pin or something.

I don't think 144Hz is an official thing, but 120Hz is the official Index supported rate and they may just overdrive it a bit. I'm not sure why you'd want a female-to-female DP-DP adapter, as you have a female USB-C port and a male displayport cable, so you want a male USB-C plug and female displayport socket, like in the products I linked. I'd try to avoid chaining adapters as it makes it more likely to run into signal quality issues due to the multiple connections. Basically yes, you're just trying to link the two physical ports and ensure the proper pins are carried through.

Ultimately someone has to get one and report how it works for us to know. :) Good luck.
