Well, the simplest/cheapest solution might just be to get an external battery for your existing device.
If you really want a separate device, a GPS data logger would be a simple device that does one thing only: track your route and create a .gpx file. You'd then connect it to your laptop via bluetooth.

The model I have is the Wintec WBT-201. I pretty much don't use it anymore, I use a spare android phone with external battery.
