I should have stated that i was throwing out a cost effective way. In anycase.

Non sugar based protein powders are fat and carb based. They still have sugar, but not as much.

Hell he could go the coconut oil route but a cup of coconut oil has the came calories as a cup of an average protein powder. And even though I like coconut oil's taste, I don't think many people could stomach that much.

Other oils that have more calories don't taste very good(peanut, vegtable).

Actually just remembered this cod liver oil is high in calories and vitamins, and doesn't taste bad at all. I used to take a tablespoon a day when I was still in the Army. But a tablespoon is only 130 calories

I'm allergic to nuts, but that's a decent source iirc, though not sure on the cost effectiveness. Peanut butter falls under this category.

I'm not sure of many other cost effective + decent tasting alternatives of greatly increasing calorie count.

Option 1
Carlson Laboratories makes Fish Oil that is really good quality but not in capsule form. It's liquid that has lemon or orange essence added so you just don't taste the fishy smell. I take Carlson Labs Cod Liver Oil every-ish day and it is the most painless thing ever..not yucky at all.

Maybe I just got tired of having to plan my weekday morning meals or got sick of eating/feeling like crap so I just started making smoothies with milk, banana, whey protein, cod liver oil, and and a scoop of green Superfood. It seems to hold me over just fine until lunch and I have yet to get sick of it. It's really the only actually beneficial nutrition I seem to get during the day.

Most people with auto-immune disorders are linked to having low levels of Vitamin D. Becareful to get your doctor's orders on what your levels should be to replete your stores and what to maintain. I was taking a 55K IU D3 pill for three months then maintenance at 1000-2000k IU daily until summer, then alternated every other day. Everyone stores Vitamin D at different levels. I'd definitely get that checked out.

If you like lemon, this is good stuff. Take it with your meal of choice, preferrable lunch/dinner (at least 4 hours from your meds). http://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Norwegian-Cod-Liver-Lemon/dp/B003B3P4PO

I take two teaspoons in the winter and in summer when I don't get outside enough. :)

Thanks for the find. However the reviews show that fish burp still happens with this one.. Fish burp is the only reason I can't consume fish oil from costco.

The only product on the market that I can consume that has higher Omega-3's would Be [Carlson Labs Norwegian Cod Liver oil] (http://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Norwegian-Cod-Liver-Lemon/dp/B003B3P4PO). Lemon burps dawg..

I use the unflavored variety of this oil currently. Looks like it's cheaper than last time I bought it actually. I don't really shoot for a ratio I just include 5-6 grams of it per day.

IMO, the only oil worth drinking is cod liver oil, and you only need a teaspoon per day. The brand below doesn't taste fishy at all. I don't love taking it just because the feeling of my mouth coated in oil is not the greatest, but I need the omega 3's and vit D. I've never had any gastro issues from it.

My father takes this stuff and loves it:

https://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Norwegian-Cod-Liver-Lemon/dp/B003B3P4PO

I tried a bit of it and it's true you can't tell it's cod liver oil but I thought the lemon flavor was pretty cloying. I can imagine you would still be able to taste it for some time after taking it unless you brushed your teeth afterwards (and maybe even then).

The only concern I would have is the type of vitamin a in the oil is highly absorbent and it's the type that builds up in your system. I don't know how long it would take to do so, but maybe taking it for awhile and then taking a break would be better.

I'll take a look - I've been taking this

> Fish Oil

Is there any particular affordable brand that you would recommend?

I found this one: http://www.carlsonlabs.com/p-107-cod-liver-oil-lemon-flavor.aspx for $31/500ml on Amazon. Assuming 3 grams/day, it would cost me roughly $1/day, which is a bit too much for me :/

Grass fed beef contains an ample amount of CLA. Most CLA supplements are derived from sunflower if I recall correctly. It's probably cheaper to take a tablespoon of sunflower oil daily, however that adds in omega 6s which should generally be avoided.

I've taken CLA supplements for up to 3 months at a time and haven't noticed any difference, I would rather take a high quality source of omega 3s from fish oil such as carlson labs brand:

http://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Norwegian-Natural-Vitamin-Bottle/dp/B003B3P4PO/ref=sr_1_5?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1320068511&sr=1-5

Whichever one you choose, be sure it lists total amount of DHA and EPA specifically and individually so you aren't getting ripped off with a supplement that only contains ALA.
