I have one of these. Similar effect, just a black boarder that doesn't eat into the plate. The ones that go over the front of the plate make it annoying to put on the new stickers.

For the rear I got the Carshow Automotive Products Plateguard, Tabless License Plate Frame and Holder/Bracket. There is also a chrome version. I like this because it looks clean with no tab holes also it keeps the metal license plate from touching the car.
My state does not require a front license plate so I got the Subaru Black Front License Plate Delete 12" with Laser Engraved Boxer Pistons There are different designs if you look on eBay. This one is my new favorite.
You can also buy a bracket that will mount a US spec plate to the JDM spaced holes. Without having to drill any new holes into your front bumper like a lot of dealers do.
I use this on both my cars.
It is practical and really does not add/takes away from the look. A bit expensive, kinda... but it solves the issue of plate-to-metal and it gives it a neutral look.
I actually was looking for the same thing a week ago and couldn’t find anything I liked in red, BUT I did find a unique frame on Amazon that I really like because the plate “slides” into the frame from the back, so it only goes around the edges of the plate (doesn’t cover any part of the front of the plate.) They only come in black, but some red glossy enamel satisfied my GTI-red desires lol.
