Seems to be a collection of short stories dealing with the darker side of elves. One of the customer reviews mentions a short style that sounds like the lady in the house one, quote:

"Margaret Fisk's "Curve of her Claw" was an interesting reworking of the idea of small mischievous elves who play tricks in the night -- hers are carnivores, and they especially love brains."

Might be the one, but meh who knows
