It's a TKL keyboard. Numberpad is cut off to conserve desk space.

Also a very fine board. CM Quickfires are great starter mechanical keyboards.

u/Metaldrake · 7 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'd go for the KUL ES-87. Other options would be a Leopold FC750(comes with stock PBT Ninja keycaps, on preorder right now), or possibly a Quickfire Rapid(restocked on the weekend) for programmability by simply adding a Frosty Flake.

u/Steveenn · 6 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I usually recommend the Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid TKL with MX Browns as an entry level board.

u/chuckx47 · 4 pointsr/battlestations

> CM Storm Quickfire Rapid.

Correct. Amazon product page.

u/kschang · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Standard TKL recommendation

Coolermaster QuickFire Rapid $80 or so on Amazon

u/zrevyx · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

The CM Storm QuickFire Rapid with MX Brown will be available on Amazon for $88.44 on November 9th. It's a decent board. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have backlighting though.

u/rodriguezlrichard · 3 pointsr/keyboards

Mechanical Keyboards, I like CM and Ducky. Pop out the keys, vaccum/compressed air, boom.

Bigger initial investment but the QoL changes with a mechanical keyboard are huge, along with the simplicity of cleaning. I would say its easy, just time consuming to pop out all the keys.

u/nerdy_redneck · 3 pointsr/linuxadmin

Using my Quickfire with MX Browns at work. Picked it up last year for about $75. Looks like they've jumped in price now though:

u/KatzenKinder · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

WASD is not a bad choice by any means, but unless you find that you really value their per-cap customization I would say that they are a tad overpriced compared to other available options.
For instance, the KUL ES-87 for $129 w/ free shipping.

Or the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid for $105 with free shipping I think, but there's only one left in stock right now haha.

u/LesZedCB · 3 pointsr/Multicopter

Haha, every time I post pictures somebody says that. :) I like it a lot. Its a Quickfire Rapid with WASD keycaps.

u/frank_n_bean · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I personally am not a huge fan, but there's a ton of people out there who like them for the tactile bump (bump on blue's are similar though I don't think it's as pronounced on a brown board). I do, however, think that it's great middle ground for both typing and gaming.

Well within that price point, my top two keyboards would be either a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid which doesn't have backlighting or a Ducky One TKL (bunch of different versions, some with backlighting and some without... also comes in black or white. The only NA vendor is mechanicalkeyboards.com and the only ones in stock at the moment are the RGB Black and RGB White).

There's certainly other boards that fit what you're looking for that are cheaper, but both of those are from pretty well-respected brands and have Cherry MX switches in them.

u/Spraypainthero965 · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you want greens you're choices are limited... really limited. It's an uncommon switch. If you want a TKL I'd just get the Quickfire Rapid. It's the only board I know of with greens and it's pretty popular around here.

u/Redgodzill · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If you've never tried a mechanical keyboard before, its not simply the "click", but the feel of the entire typing experience. You will have to try it out to know what I mean. There are many different types of key switches with different amounts of force required to register their presses, different ones that have a tactile bump that tell you when you've activated the key, ones with no bump at all, different ones that click when pressed down, combinations of these, and a lot more. Its good to be educated about the different types of key switches before finally investing into a mechanical keyboard, based off of your situation and preferences. Head to /r/MechanicalKeyboards if you want to see people with way too many keyboards and good recomendations. Personally, I'd recommend the Cooler Master Storm Quickfire series here and here, or the popular Poker II from Massdrop. A good mechanical keyboard is definitely a worthy investment, as it will last you for a very long time and you can swap out the keycaps if they get damaged or if you want a different look. Also note that Razer's mech keyboards are lower quality than most other keyboards due to their special key switches manufactured in China, so don't trust Razer's keyboards no matter how flashy they look. You're better off with literally any other mechanical keyboard.

For your mouse, its personal preference but if you're going to play something "serious" like CS:GO I'd recommend any mouse from Logitech's gaming lineup since their sensors from the lowest to the highest pricepoint are trusted by pro players.

Happy gaming!

u/trustifarian · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Quick Fire Rapid for $61 if he's cool with Blues. Not Prime eligible so it'll probably be after Xmas. Only one in stock so it may still be available.

$85 if he wants browns

Later, for another $30, you can get a different controller to make this a fully programmable board.

u/point3edu · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

The Zalman boards are basically the cheapest of the entry level mechs. You get what you pay for. It'll likely still be better than most rubber dome keyboards but it might also break/wear down faster than a normal mech too.

If you're looking at a budget board and don't mind loud clicks: http://www.amazon.com/Dimmable-Tenkeyless-Mechanical-Keyboard-Anti-Ghosting/dp/B0114LDRKI/

these have gotten some very positive feedback recently.

QuickFire Rapid is also priced closely but with genuine Cherry switches and is a well established "good" board:

http://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B007VDKLLM/

Just keep in mind if you are looking to save money you'll also be sacrificing a little on quality.

u/crash2bandicoot · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I agree with /u/99002420, I highly recommend the QFR. It's basically the same as a WASD keyboard for way less, even when buying replacement keycaps. Great entry mechanical keyboard, solid construction, standard TKL layout so it's compatible with lots of keycap sets, and the controller is easily replaceable if you want to turn it into a programmable keyboard. I actually have the same keyboard but with Blue switches, and am loving it so far.

u/SabreJD · 3 pointsr/montageparodies

oh man all these keyboards are sold out! Do you approve of this?

After some quick research I found out that this has costar stabilizers, which is supposedly a good thing compared to the cherry stabilizers on ducky keyboards. I do plan on buying some keycaps, but I'll leave that for another day. And unlike all the other keyboards, amazon can get this to me on saturday. Some keys also have red LEDs!!

u/subcat · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

thank you for reminding me that i have to rewatch every jontron episode

well, a commonly recommended, high quality keyboard that you can get for around 80 dollars is the CM QuickFire Rapid, but you'll be getting the non-backlit one for that price. here it is with browns

u/Gajible · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Quickfire Rapid comes in greens at a much steeper price.

There's also the Code if you want LEDs

EDIT: Probably your best option

u/kcirtap_ · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Quickfire Rapid

White engraved pbt keycaps, and some other fun stuff.

u/Mocha- · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards
&amp;gt;$100 <br />

means over $100. It may help to remake your thread.

In any case, look into Quickfire Rapids.

If you want to feel a click, you need tactile switches.

These will usually be Cherry MX Browns.

If you don't want to feel a click, you need linear switches.

These can either be Cherry MX Blacks or Reds.

If you want stiff linear switches, you get Cherry MX Blacks.

Reds take less to actuate.

http://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B007VDKLLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1407113253&amp;amp;sr=8-1&amp;amp;keywords=quickfire+rapid

However, if you can extend your budget or save up for a few days or work the corner, you can get a Poker II. I like my Poker II far more than my QFR. That's not to say that the Quickfire Rapid is bad, just that the Poker II is phenomenal.

Lastly, Noppoo Choc Minis and Noppoo Choc Mini 2M's are on sale on MassDrop for insanely low prices. They both feature a variety of switches, and are definitely worth considering.

u/Platfus · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I suggest you go and try to find QuickFire Rapid from CoolerMaster. Not sure if it's discontinued yet. Then, you will have to purchase the Frosty Flake controller that will turn it into programmable beast.

You are most likely looking for a CM QuickFire Rapid or QuickFire XT.

u/zer0knowledge · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

It's a Quickfire Rapid. The price point makes it a great introduction to mechanical keyboards.

u/anthonyooiszewen · 2 pointsr/mechmarket

The CM Storm [MX Browns] is available on Amazon for $79.61 + free two-day shipping.

u/intheoryno · 2 pointsr/osugame

My current switches are browns. However, I own reds, blues, and browns. I got all of them except the browns keyboard before I had ever heard of osu!. For me personally, I've found that I've had the greatest success with blues. The only reason I'm not using them now is because my browns board is tenkeyless and I don't have much room. Many people like reds because they are linear and very light so they assume that they will be able to stream faster. For me personally, I find that while using reds I often don't completely register when I have or have not pressed a key yet. Resulting in many misses. Browns are better, as they are slightly tactile, but it isn't by much. Going back to the idea of streaming faster with reds though. While it makes sense at first, you have to consider the fact that the heavier switches such as blues or blacks will bounce back faster after you press them. Meaning they are ready to be pressed again sooner. So if you primarily singletap and always bottom out your keys like me, you will enjoy blues. If you like to alternate a majority of the time and you don't think you will have a problem knowing whether or not you've pressed your key, then you may like reds. If you want something inbetween, try browns. I can't really recommend blacks, clears, or greens though, as I haven't tried them. Although clears do sound like fun.

Edit:http://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B007VDKLLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1426053630&amp;amp;sr=8-1&amp;amp;keywords=quickfire+rapid+browns

This is the keyboard I currently have. I think it has good build quality and it looks decent. However, the price seems to be a bit high at the moment. It should be around $85 not $112. So if you want to get that one I'd recommend waiting a bit to see if it goes down.

u/entfesselndiekrake · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The CM Storm Quickfire Rapid is on sale right now for $89.99 CAD

u/Jemunoz · 2 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

Man, what I would do with that extra frame buffer. Would love to get an upgrade to match the looks and lay my old boy to rest. Thanks for the chance!!

u/BTCyd · 2 pointsr/evangelion

Thanks for the suggestion! I am a fan of that subreddit, but I want to post a bigger/nicer picture over there once I re-do my desk environment.

I actually replaced my blackwidow with this keyboard! haha. The keyboard I have is a CM Storm Rapid-i, Cherry Brown Switches (LED backlight, TKL version). Link here:
http://www.amazon.com/QuickFire-Mechanical-Keyboard-ActivLite-Technology/dp/B00M562EQU/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1452028973&amp;amp;sr=1-2&amp;amp;keywords=cm+storm+rapid+i

If you want a cheaper version, I suggest the non-LED version, which comes in full or TKL:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VDKLLM/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;amp;pf_rd_s=desktop-1&amp;amp;pf_rd_r=0DBQRZDHR08NPZRQ1NNH&amp;amp;pf_rd_t=36701&amp;amp;pf_rd_p=2079475242&amp;amp;pf_rd_i=desktop

Great keyboard! Much smaller than my blackwidow which has allowed for way more space on my desk. I also inserted small o-rings to make the noise quieter, a suggestion if you want something a little less noisy. Regarding the keypad- I thought I was going to miss it, but it turns out I prefer the extra space much more. I will say though that I miss having the extra macro keys to the left as I used them in my gaming, but I quickly adapted with little difference.

Edit: The keyboard I currently own was $99 when I purchased it but it is priced right now at $120, Im sure you can find a cheaper version elsewhere if you wait/do some research

u/eletwo · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Up to you, its your money.

However, $40 is suspiciously cheap for a mechanical keyboard to unknown switch type from a brand I've never heard of.

Personally, I'd spend a bit more money and grab something like the CM Storm Quickfire. Solid build quality and MX Blue switches for $70 is a pretty good deal.

u/the_marsupial · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

For what amounts to the same money, if you're after a "name brand" you're much better off with a CM Storm QFR

If you're willing to stretch your budget a little further, check out KUL (elitekeyboards.com), Leopold, Ducky, Varmilo, Ganss, KBParadise (mechanicalkeyboards.com). Admittedly, the options are kind of overwhelming, but I'm willing to bet that any one of these will serve you better than Razer or Corsair.

As for switches, I know very little about the MX Silent switches (no first hand experience). While I'm sure they're just fine, you're really not going to hear much (more) from Browns or Reds (or pretty much any linear for that matter). Not long ago I owned a Leopold FC750RT with Browns...with the internal dampening, landing pads, and thick PBT caps, the thing was very stealthy as long as I wasn't hammering ;)

Best of luck!

u/scwoopz · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I assume you need an ISO layout. It's not sold by corsair. Here's the link to one I found on Amazon

u/sovietreckoning · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I just bought this one and hooked it up today. It's about $10 over your budget, but I've never used a keyboard that feels this nice. I highly recommend it.

u/YUDoDisReddit · 2 pointsr/mechanicalheadpens

Sorry for the crappy 4k quality, shot with a Galaxy S5 and I forgot to resize

Equipment: Cooler Master Rapid (Browns), Sennheiser HD 558, Pilot Metropolitan

u/Blowkewl · 2 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

I use this one. It's a really solid keyboard that I have had no problems with, which I value more than having some LEDs or macros.

u/JKeeper · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

I have a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid with MX brown switches on it. Let me know if you'd be interested.

This one right here:
https://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B007VDKLLM

u/aBoatfromKhuul · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

if you can forego the LED part, I can personally recommend this, but I also got it for about 30 dollars cheaper "used". There may be 'better' options in the price range, and idk if TKL or if MX Browns are your thing. Another option, if you're looking for afforadable and your first foray into mechanical keyboards would be to look up an old Dell AT101w on ebay. They're solid boards, if you can get a clean one. ALPS switches are more than likely better than what you'll find on the cheapest of the cheap LED keyboards that you'd find for the price you'll pay for one of these Dells on ebay.

u/masterboy9 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I recommend MX Brown Switches as they have the best balance between typing and gaming. The best keyboard would be this IMO.

But I would just get a $10 keyboard for now and wait a bit as MX RGB are VERY close and i think they will be great.

u/KacKLaPPeN23 · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you want to get the Magicforce for the price I'd suggest a Cooler Master QFR instead. For that little price difference it is the better choice with a more stable case and the possibility of an addon controller to make it fully programmable.

u/DarkStar851 · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Literally anything but those first three. The Pok3r is a good pick if you want a 60% layout but I'm not sure I'd recommend it for gaming.

How about something like the CM Storm QuickFire QFR (no RGB or numpad), or a Ducky Shine 5 (full sized board, RGB)?

You definitely don't need to blow a $200 budget for a nice keyboard. You're paying a bit more for RGB lighting if that's really a necessity for you. Personally I don't care for it.

this is the keyboard i have with the switches i have, the brown keys are really nice, i actually prefer them for typing as opposed to the mx blues.

this is the keyboard layout i designed, but i was an idiot and bought it in the american layout when my keyboard uses the uk one, so i will have a few stock keys among that (in my opinion) beautiful design. (i'll post some pictures on this sub when i get them, i've been waiting a week but they're still not here!)

also note that the numpad keys are those colours because i won't be using them and i thought why not get them in a few colours so i can at least see what the other colours look like in case i ever buy from them in the future

u/spoonraker · 2 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

That keyboard layout is silly. Personally, I really want a tenkeyless keyboard. Normal layout, just no keypad. Same space-savings as the picture you posted, but a less weird layout.

I've had my eyes on this keyboard for quite a while.

Keep in mind, if you buy a tenkeyless keyboard, you can always buy an external 10-key pad and just move it into position when you need it, but keep it out of the way for gaming, which is exactly what I want to do since I use the 10-keypad for my work all the time (I'm a programmer who works at home).

u/siberia50 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I really recommend mechanical, like seriously I can't even type on a membrane anymore, it is just so responsive using mechanical. Sorry, shouldn't of assumed! The Corsair K70 LUX RGB has the Brown's, and the Corsair Strafe RGB has the Blue's.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of mechanical, and that's why I'm going for the K55 RGB, but that's completely up to you. Also, a more compact, and cheaper MX Brown keyboard is this one from coolermaster: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B007VDKLLM/?tag=tomshardware_forum_ca_vgl-20

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VDKLLM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;psc=1

But I got a good price on a logitech G710+ and now it's redundant (both are browns)

It's not backlit, but if you are interested, we can try to figure something out. I'm in Melbourne too.

Edit: corrected one information.

u/tnel126 · 1 pointr/keyboards

So I've been looking at this what do you think? This will be my first gaming keyboard so I'm not sure how good it is. Also i know there is a lot of differences between blue and brown switches. Obviously i'm trying to save a little money, is the brown switch worth the extra $15 dollars?

u/Featherflight09 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

To each his own. Massdrop recently dropped it again so it might not be available for a bit. If your only need is a brown switch board, check out the Quickfire Rapids. They used to be the go-to cheap board before the MF came out.

u/Pashow · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

The fact that you're looking for blank caps makes this really tricky.

All the good options for TKL keyboards in that price range such as the KUL ES-87 all seem to have printed caps.

The only thing that really comes to mind is an entry level Max Keyboard Nighthawk which is unfortunately not Tenkeyless, and also given its price I have to question its build quality (I have no experience with it myself).

Alternatively, you can go the DIY route and get a cheap but well-built CM Storm Quickfire Rapid and slap a GeekKeys Thick PBT keycap set on it (if you're fine with white keycaps on black keyboard). This gives you the advantage of having a thick PBT set which provides a better typing experience.

u/WhatWasWhatAbout · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

A tenkeyless, standard layout with brown switches sounds like an ideal first board to me. I'll want to add a standalone number pad that I can place on the far side of the mouse (or the opposite side of the keyboard) later on.

I'm trying to use some Amazon gift card credit, and here's what I've found so far:

u/crazystu · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you can tolerate Costar stabilizers, the CM Storm Quick-Fire Rapid is a good choice. The one I've linked also has a standard bottom row, so you shouldn't have any problems fitting key-sets.

u/border-box · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

So, if I should not look for strafe shaped keys. If that's the case, I'll be looking at, I believe they're call, tenkeyless boards. I don't use anything in my numpad area anyway.

I'm glad to hear my thoughts on Browns were a good idea.

Now it's just finding one. Is this one any good, do you know? The reviews seem nice, but I don't always trust them.

Thanks again for all the help! I think I've narrowed it down to the QFR vs the QFR-i. The QuickFire Rapid-i with Cherry MX Browns are selling for essentially the same price as the Quickfire Rapid with Cherry MX Browns. Is there any reason NOT to go with the newer one?

u/bakageta · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

A Filco tenkeyless is "only" ~$160, or you could grab an open-box QuickFire Rapid for ~$70 as long as you want blues or browns... You can't go wrong with Filco, but the QFR isn't bad by any stretch.

u/Natemiester · 1 pointr/CasualConversation

CM Storm QuickFire Rapid / Cherry MX Brown - $85 and a better choice than any of the keyboards you listed.

Of the ones you listed though, I'd rank them, based on your requirements:

1. Magicforce 68 - probably the best low-budget mechanical keyboard there is.
2. Nixeus Moda V2 - standard keycap layout so swapping the keycaps is as easy as it gets.
3. Drevo Gramr 84 - a bit non-standard on the keycap sizes, but decent otherwise as far as I know.
4. Ajazz AK33 - the spacebar is impossible to replace. I wouldn't consider it if I were you.

There's also the Varmilo VA87M but it's well out of your budget. Ticks basically all your boxes though.

If noise is a problem, do not get blues. I would suggest browns. As far as keyboards, please take a good look at the Das Keyboard Pro 4. It is the best keyboard I have typed on so far. If you want cheaper, the CM Quickfire Rapid and CM Quickfire XT are good choices as well.

Since you asked for recommendation for a good backlit keyboard with the budget &lt;$100, I can strongly recommend Cherry MX Brown / Gateron Brown Mechanical Keyboards as they are both good for gaming and daily use. Here are couple of good, proven mechanical keyboards:

  • Corsair STRAFE ($90) - Link
  • Corsair Gaming K70 LUX ($80) - Link
  • CM Storm QuickFire Rapid ($85) - Link

Or, you can go with some cheaper keyboards with Gateron Brown (Here is one that's only $40, but the rather unconventional layout might confuse you).

/r/MechanicalKeyboards is a great resource on this subject, and I really suggest that you check them out.

Well that is not entirely true.

u/karmapopsicle · 1 pointr/buildapc

I've had a QFP for quite a while now, and overall I wouldn't recommend it over any of the other CMStorm boards. The great rubber coating on the keys started wearing off after just a month of use, and is not pretty much gone.

If you're comfortable going TenKeyLess, absolutely grab a QuickFire Rapid, as it's just a more solidly build board. Alternatively, the QuickFire TK has a different compact layout with a numpad, and full backlighting as well.

u/kaiden60 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm looking for my second mechanical (First was a Razer Blackwidow, broke though) , I've been without one for almost half a year now, and I think it's about time haha.

I think brown switches are what I'm going with, it's a really tough decision though with reds, and even blacks/clears to consider, i'm really torn, but brown is the most similar to blues, so it'd be a smooth transition. I'd love it if I could find a keyboard that's sold with blank keycaps/characters printed on front, but it's not a priority since i could always just buy the key caps

I'd like it to be compact, or 60% + F keys, And I'd like one without backlights, maybe one like this https://www.amazon.ca/Cooler-Master-Storm-QuickFire-Rapid/dp/B007VDKLLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;amp;qid=1478336384&amp;amp;amp;sr=8-1&amp;amp;amp;keywords=MECHANICAL+KEYBOARD ?
(Would there be anywhere better to buy keyboards in canada)

Also, I love the looks of 60% keyboards like poker, but losing the ~ key and F keys kinda hurts as I use those in some games, so if there's anything similar it would be awesome.

Also, my dad wants a keyboard with a backlight, so when it's dark he can clearly see the keys as he looks down a lot when he types, blue keys would probably be the best for him, anything other than that he won't care about, so anything cheap will satisfy him

u/DecoyGrenadeOut · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hey. That's quite a... detailed list you've got there. I'll clear up what I can. I'll go through your issues one by one.

First off:Motherboard. Addresses in problem #7 #5.
-Bluetooth. Most motherboard don't have a built in Bluetooth module. If you want Bluetooth anyway I recommend you to check out this:
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GC-WB867D-I-Bluetooth-Adapter-Computer/dp/B00HF8K0O6
This also comes with wifi. Bonus points for convenience.

-Motherboard:Your 6700k is an unlocked processor, which mean it is designed for a Z170 chipset motherboard, which enables CPU overclocking, you can learn more about it in Google. Considering your concern about audio quality I recommend either an:

+ASROCK Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4

Or a

+Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3

Both of which comes with the newest onboard audio codec [ALC1150] but I generally prefer the Z170X Gaming 3 because it has better build quality and comes with an Op Amp. Solid choice overall.

Secondly:Performance related issues. As addresses in problem #2 and #3

-Ram:32GB of RAM is all you need, most of the people who run out of 64gb RAM are the ones who work on hi profile project like BF1 and AAA titles. Don't sweat it.

-Storage:1TB SSD is pretty pricey but is worth it if you can pay the bucks. If you can't, then opt for a 120gb or 240gb SSD and then get 3x500GB HDD and run it in Raid 0 configuration. This feature is supported by the aforementioned motherboards, this makes the HDD faster while still having fast boot time and low cost.

Third: Comfortability. This one is small so I'll keep it short.

-Keyboard:It depends on your need. If you want a quiet and tactile, go for Brown switch. If you don't use the keypad much but can use some extra money and space they get a TKL keyboard, it all depends on your preference. My recommendation:
https://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B007VDKLLM?th=1&amp;amp;psc=1

-Monitors:Are you multitasking? Do you want to watch porn while playing GTA5? Then get 2 1080p.
If you prefer quality instead, I recommend an ultra wide 1440p monitor. The 1070 isn't powerful enough to hit a steady 144fps at max settings.1080 also has a hard time hitting it so just stay with the 1070 and SLI later for extra performance. My recommendation:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VBNQJSM/ref=as_li_tl?tag=amazon0251-20&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;camp=1789&amp;amp;creative=390957&amp;amp;creativeASIN=B00VBNQJSM&amp;amp;linkCode=as2&amp;amp;linkId=DXJX3BVD7T5PL252
There is enough real estate for multiple windows when you're not gaming. So if you can spare a few buck then this may be cool for you.

-Case: Just go with what the community considers best: the NZXT S340. Simple and efficient.

-Installation: You do indeed need to buy a Phillips screwdriver if you want to assemble the PC. The rest is just adult Lego.

Hope I cleared that up. If you don't understand anything feel free to ask me.

u/Childs_Play · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Hi so I'm looking for my first mechanical keyboard with brown switches. I'd like to spend under $100. Less than $80 could be pretty good if the quality is there. I don't really need something too customizable yet. I heard the corsairs have bad software on them but they physically look good. Can anyone comment on these keyboards and give their recommendations? I saw the CM Storm Quickfire rapid for cheaper but now it went back up in price so I'm really hesitant to buy it.

i can say, even my cheaper mechanical keyboard has made typing alot less tiring on my fingers and wrists, mainly because the keys glide easily, and don't have such a need to bottom out the keys every time you type.

basically it is just a higher grade keyboard.

it will probably improve your typing speed, but skill will still be in the practice.

u/Tanner4dude2man0 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

lights are over-rated, but if you don't have an SSD get an intel 520 series 120gb SSD, otherwise if you already have an ssd and have a crappy keyboard get a cooler master storm quickfire mechanical keyboard for $15 above your budget. The keyboard is above your budget, but if you are going to upgrade your keyboard it will only be worth it if you go mechanical.

u/mjrulz5 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you want an inexpensive keyboard the function as well as the K series, then you should check out CM quick fire rapid. This model has brown switches which are good for a starter keyboard because it allowed you to determine whether you like the tactile feel or not. CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007VDKLLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_V2c.ybDTRQXYY

u/river82 · 1 pointr/buildapc

What version of the Rapid are you looking at? Looking at the MX Brown versions on Amazon, the non-backlit version costs about the same, while the backlit version costs about $10 more.

----

Brown (and Clear) switches are quieter than the rest, so those might be good for a work environment. Linear switches like Reds are alright too, but I'd definitely stay away from the tactile clicky switches like Blues and Greens. Those switches are just too loud.

I've heard that to some people, Reds feel nice and Browns feel like dirty Reds. I've never typed on Brown switches before, though, so I don't know if that's true or not.

If you ever find that your switches are too loud, you can always add O-rings to them which can help dampen some noise. I'm typing right now on MX Clear switches with 0.2mm O-rings and while each key sounds much sharper, sounds more distinct than rubber domes, it's not any louder than a rubber dome. MX Brown switches should sound fairly similar.

u/Co5000 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007VDKLLM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_DZm3wbHSR4BDJ

u/tigojones · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I would suggest to either find a store that stocks mechanical keyboards and try them out, or buy a switch sampler. Switches are a very personal choice. In general, yeah, Browns/Clears would be a good option for a typing-oriented user who needs quiet. As far as which between the two? Some people feel that Browns are too light and that the bump is barely noticeable, and that Clears are better in that regard. I haven't had any experience with Clears, but I definitely notice that the bump on Browns is less noticeable than it is on my QFR with Blues.

There are a few questions beyond switch type which you'll need to figure out. First will be the size of the keyboard. Do you need a full-sized keyboard, would you prefer a tenkeyless like this Ducky or the Quickfire Rapid, or does a 60% keyboard like the Poker II or KBP V60 sound appealing?

The final thing to figure out is budget. For a decent keyboard, you're looking at about $80-$130. There's quite the selection of form factors, makes/models/brands and switches at that price range.

Just so you're aware, you don't really lose any functionality with a 60%, as they generally make use of layering to provide additional abilities. Rather than have a separate F1-12 key row, there's a Fn key and you use that with the number row.

u/BlossomDub · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

The QuickFire Rapid and the Magicforce 68 are great starter options.

u/RE1Do_ · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

You gotta follow your heart! I was pretty much set on the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid. I was looking for a simple aesthetic, non-back lit, tenkeyless layout with switches that were highly rated for a mix of gaming and typing. I wanted tactile feedback but non-clicky and landed on the Cherry MX Browns. This is my first MK so I also wanted to stick to a budget of under $125 CAD all-in. I used this article online as a handy guide to help me narrow down what I liked and disliked about the different models.

I literally had my mouse on the "Buy now" button for the QFR for $118+tax on Amazon when I decided to do one last eBay check for Filcos MJ2 TLK, which was the board I really wanted but was generally out of my price range. I found my keeb for $114+tax and pounced on it (that's the Cherry MX Blue version. I got the Brown which is now sold out). Super happy with a great deal and super happy with this board!

That said, the Masterkeys looks great to me too! It was on my list. My advice is to shop around as much as possible. You never know where or when you'll find the best deal on it. Good luck!

u/scottemzz · 1 pointr/battlestations

I am an auditor right now. I don't use my keyboard for work as I am usually in small rooms at a client site and my colleagues complain about the noise. If you have more space then I would absolutely recommend a mechanical keyboard! If you spend a lot of time at a computer they are a must, have a more responsive feedback (depending on the switch) and will last longer than membrane keys! There are some good entry level ones if you are worried about the price. The one below is a really good starting point!
https://www.amazon.ca/Cooler-Master-Storm-QuickFire-Rapid/dp/B007VDKLLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1487131659&amp;amp;sr=8-1&amp;amp;keywords=cooler+master+quickfire

u/_Mongrel · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Backlighting at that price is going to be hard when you take into consideration all the other stuff you want. Some options are the Coolermaster Quickfire Rapid or Ducky One TKL for $10 more. If you feel like you could use a slightly smaller layout then you could get something with a 75% which gets rid of some of the function keys. Another option would be to look on r/mechmarket for a second hand board, which may be slightly cheaper.

u/TheMoves · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Which Apple keyboard do you mean? Are you referring to this one? If so I don't think you're going to find anything quite like that in a mechanical keyboard. Mechanical switches have some height to them and keycaps do too. There are some that present thinner than average but as you can see it's still actually quite a bit thicker than the Apple board especially when you consider the height of the keys.

Given all of that, a budget of $50 isn't going to get you one of those caseless ones, in fact I'd be hard pressed to think of a half decent mech that retails for 50 or less. If you can up the budget a little this isn't a terrible choice, they do go on sale sometimes.

Lastly, check out /r/mechmarket and see if you find anything you like, there's all kinds of stuff at the right price if you don't need it to be brand new

u/Knocking · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

The QFR doesn't have that much branding, take a look at the newer ones. Anyways, it was just a generic recommendation, any TKL would work fine. He could get a white KC87 with Kailhs at MK.com, but I didn't feel like recommending Kailhs.

Those aren't the caps he's looking for, it's a gradient, not a rainbow. If you read further down, he seemed to decide on the FC660M white (because form factor), and found the exact set of caps for $60 off QTan. The total cost of the keyboard and caps came close to $180, which I consider expensive, or at the very least not cheap.

If you're not looking specifically for a mechanical, you can get a pretty generic rubber dome keyboard like this one from HP. Cooler Master does some "affordable-ish" mech keyboards in their gaming line as well.

I'm very happy with my CM Storm QuickFire Rapid Tenkeyless w/Cherry MX Brown Switches keyboard. But it's not quiet. I'm ordering Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners which should help with the noise.

u/CreativeCamp · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

In general most mechanicals use switches (the little thing under the keycaps that activates the button) from big switch makers. Cherry is the most popular one and if you get a keyboard with cherry MX switches you will know that at least those will have a good build to them.

This is a board with Brown Cherry Switches. They have a bit of a tactile bump tot them when pressed and are overall very pleasant to type on.

Linear Red Cherry switches on this board. Red is often preferred for gaming because it's light to press and you can double tap easily because of how the activation works on this switch.

CHERRY MX BLUE! The switch that people think about when you say mechanical keyboard. It has a very audible click and it's almost bordering on a typewriter feel when you type on it. Some people hate it. Some love it. This board is available in 4 different configurations if blue isn't your switch.

There are of course other boards but those are nice starter ones. A lot of people here like the CM ones as you will see. Corsair is also starting to blow up. Expect a lot of pictures of the Corsair RGB when it comes out. The hype is off the hook at the moment. Kind of.

If it was up to me I'd buy a Ducky keyboard but those are a bit more expensive.
I did find a super nice one that is just inside your budget.

It's a brown switched TKL (no numpad) from ducky. It has really cool illumination settings and is overall high in build quality. It's out of stock at NCIX but you should be able to get it at other places if you look around a bit. I would do it for you but my collar bone is broken and I don't have the energy to do that right now.

Good luck with the hunt, let me know how it goes!

I'm completely new to mechanical keyboards and looking to get my first one.

I really don't know which kind of switch I want, but I've heard that Cherry MX Blues are the best for noobs. I'm sort of worried about the sound though, maybe I will end up with the browns.

Here are a few keyboards I've been looking at:

  • Rosewill RK9000 - looks like the best value in terms of price, but right now I can only get it with blues.
  • Unicomp SpaceSaver M - Mac buckling spring keyboard. A buckling spring keyboard looks good, but I don't know about the sound level or the build quality of this model.
  • CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - I think the TKL layout might take some getting used to but I can manage... overall it looks pretty good.
  • Das Keyboard Ultimate If I were to spend my money on looks this is what I would get. I would get this (Browns, silent model) but $150 is a lot compared to the other ones on this list.
  • Matias Tactile Pro - Another mac-y keyboard.
  • And if I am really spending money I would get something from WASD probably.

Since I use a Mac, I would rather have something with normal keycaps so I can switch Windows and Alt (and get this if the windows keys have that stupid circular recess on them).

Any ideas on what to get? Is the Das Keyboard worth the money (it seems like the only one I can get with browns)? Should I get something else entirely?

You can't really add the cherry keyswitches yourself, so that's out of the question.

As for myself, I use a Cooler Master Storm Quickfire Rapid with Cherry MX Brown keys. I love this thing and it only cost $60. Sadly, it doesn't have a number pad, but it doesn't take too long to get used to.

In my opinion, the best switch would be the Browns since they take a higher amount of force to push than the Reds, yet a lower amount of force to push than the Blues. They are ideal for both gaming and typing. If you want to do more research yourself, here's a guide on the different types of Cherry keyswitches.

If you want to buy him a single part rather than just an Amazon or Newegg giftcard, I would recommend buying the case.

The case is the tower itself, where all the parts go. This is probably one of the easiest parts to choose, as it's mainly down to personal preference and aesthetics. I would recommend a case which says it is compatible with ATX motherboards, as this is the most common size of motherboard and will give him the most choice. Anything with "ATX mid-tower" is what you need. "Micro-ATX" and "Mini-ITX" are different, not what I would recommend unless you know for sure he wants motherboards of those sizes. You will also see "ATX Full Tower" cases, which will probably be much too big. These are mainly only used for massive system builds.

If you want my advice, I would recommend the NZXT S340. It's a very nice visually appealing case, has a large side window to see the components, comes in a variety of colours, is a reasonable price and comfortable to build in.

If you have no idea what to get or feel overwhelmed, you can just get him an Amazon or Newegg gift card.

If you need any further help, r/buildapc is a very good place to ask.

Edit: On a second thought, why not buy him a nice mechanical keyboard to game with? (Assuming he doesn't already have one). Here's a good one

Closest solid option is this Cooler Master board

Also, I use this Royal Kludge board in black at work Shipping took a while, but it was worth the cheap price.

I think the Royal Kludge is underrated, as it allows macros, and semi-advanced white backlighting. It uses Kailh or some knockoff of the sort that feels fine. I think there may be a few different versions, as the one I got, the keys did not quite match the picture, and the macros were a pleasant surprise. If you do get the RK, feel free to message me once it arrives in a month.

Final note, the Qisan mechanical keyboard (aka, "Magiforce 68") is another solid option, which I recommend for home. I had this board until I botched a solder experiment. All these options are different sizes, and I highly suggest avoiding numpads for home computers unless you really don't mind the loss of space (I have a small home desk)

I love the feel of the Browns, they type well and and they do not have the obnoxiously loud click of the Blues that annoyed the person next to me in Mirco Center the second I typed my first word on it.

However I'm not sure if I like the lights on the Cooler Master or not.

I was looking into this one but I'm not sure if I will like the Greens.

How loud are they?

If they're less than the Blues and a bit more than the Browns then I could deal with it.

I like the size of the Poker II but I'm not sure how long I will last without arrow keys.

But if I like the Greens (going to a different Micro Center tomorrow) then I'm going to buy the QuickFire with Greens.

I play mostly FPS games and here's my two cents:

Razer BlackWidow
I personally haven't use this keyboard before but I've heard some negative things about it regarding build quality. I am currently using a CM Storm quickfire rapid (tenkeyless) for more mouse space. link

Logitech G400s
I have this and it's a pretty solid mouse. Decent for all kinds of grip style but may take a while to get used to.

Logitech G930
Haven't tried wireless headphones before but I think it would be a good investment as it reduces the number of cables lying around. I'd give it a shot.

I generally avoid Razer but -some- of their stuff looks pretty decent. Logitech warranty is the best out there as they will replace most if not all faulty products for free (even without proof of purchase).

CM Quickfire is a good series of Tenkeyless.

First you need to know which type of switches you want which you can determine by buying a switch tester. Coolermaster Storm QFR maybe.

EWWWW rubber domes are gross. Get yourself a real keyboard like a Ducky or a Coolermaster. Both are really great boards. Better than the Corsair in many peoples opinion.

Ah. In this keyboards case they claim that you can take the switches out and replace them with other types of switches without having to open up the keyboard or do any soldering.

If you're an FPS gamer pretty much anything will do, the type of switch doesn't really matter too much for gaming and anything is better than a rubber dome.

The E-Element is an obscure Chinese brand so you'll have very little hope of getting something fixed outside of the return policy.

you can't really go wrong with a quickfire rapid. They're built well and CM is a reputable brand.

I just ordered my ducky with brown switches and I can't wait for it, but they could be a little pricey.
For your budget I recommend a quick fire rapid, if you don't mind tenkeyless. This is a quite decent keyboard:

I am looking for a good keyboard as well. Anything other than a full sized keyboard would be small enough for me. So just loosing the num pad would be perfect. I use insert, home delete, end, page up/down and arrow keys regularly.
Pretty much this, but wireless:
