I decided to go cheap, but it seems to work just great for me.
Went with these:

So for $67 I have a case that supports 12 drives no problem.

You can buy a new case, or maybe get one of those 5.25" HDD cages.
> What is your average download in megabytes per second?
1.7 megabytes/second is usually around what I get. I think that's pretty close to 15/8. ;)
> Are most of these from private trackers or from FTP's?
Most is probably from usenet, but lots is from a private HD tracker yeah.
> Any pictures of the case setup?
I'll see if I can take some pictures later maybe, but it's not that impressive, just an Antec Twelve Hundred and a bunch of Cooler Master 4-in-3 modules (http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Module-Device-STB-3T4-E3-GP/dp/B00129CDGC)
> Any more specs for what you went with for SATA controllers?
Already mentioned that I went with the Areca Arc-1260. They've got 4 port versions too if you're interested in superfast hardware raid... But you could probably do a software/onboard solution with just 4 drives pretty easily.
still getting "submit too fast"... sigh.
120mm fan bay or how about some extra HDD bays + 120mm fan?
