My PC will not get past my MOBO screen when trying to boot up with new RAM installed. The RAM is installed correctly as the clicks can be heard when the RAM is placed into the MOBO and when installing my old RAM again to actually get onto my system they are being installed the same way. My old RAM is DDR3 2x2gb and the new RAM that won't boot is DDR3 2x4gb

Is there a particular reason you're dumping $40 on two fans? The rosewill case you've got listed appears to have fans in every available slot. I'd consider this power supply to knock off another $30, and this RAM (I also have a preference to Corsair, they make good stuff). Otherwise it looks good.

u/Artfunkel · 3 pointsr/Games

I used to be sceptical that it was possible, but since seeing this post I've been working out how much a PC that runs BF4 at recommended PC spec would cost.

u/xxLetheanxx · 2 pointsr/buildapc
u/razor3210 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This RAM maybe, i have it in my computer and its fine. Although you need to be aware that the heatsyncs are pretty large so MAY hit the cooler, i have it and it does the job. I have no idea with that cooler, i dont know the orientation or the weird looking bits.;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004CRSM4I/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details

Also are you planning to OC? if not, then you dont really need an aftermarket cooler, sure it will get loud, but you can always get one later if that really bothers you. and applying one will void your warranty.

Secondly, do you really need a case thats £70? something like this would do just as well and is half the price, I think its compatible (please correct me if im wrong someone).;

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coolermaster-elite-430-all-black-mid-tower-case-with-side-window-120mm-front-led-blue-fan-and-120mm-

saw you changed your HDD. mabe a 500GB 7200 RPM one? might lower the costs a bit. also might i suggest waiting a couple of weeks for the new nvidia cards to come out? might drive down the price of the older cards.

u/amarine88 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Updated with this RAM. Thanks! Worth the $6.

u/Rider797 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Well you definitely do not need the 7970, go with the 7850 or if you feel you absolutely need a lot of overhead go with the 7950.

Also the RAM you linked is Laptop memory and again unless you want 16GB just to say you have it, you should be fine with 8GB but make sure it is not laptop memory. Corsair Vengeance 8GB

u/ihavegingerpubichair · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Cool, the 7850 would easily max out skyrim. as for BF3 you could go on high / ultra settings, 60 fps no problem.
For the CPU, if you could stretch to the FX6300, that would be quite a bit better, it's about $20 more than the 4100.
To get back to the budget of $700 (we are currently $20 over), you could get a 500W PSU, it would easily handle those components, and would be a bit cheaper. Maybe get some different RAM as well, The Kit you have chosen seems pretty pricey for 8GB.
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-240-Pin-Platforms-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383057533&sr=8-1&keywords=8GB+ram

u/-Syntraxx- · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

My pc is 3 years old now (i7 4770k , GTX770 4GB VRAM and 8GB ram). My RAM memory gets full while playing rust and recently also while playing titanfall. I have to put texture quality down as for some reason it fills my ram as well, VRAM never was a problem as I got a special 4gb edition. At the moment I got 8GB (2x4GB), amazon link here. It's only dd3 and 1600mhz so I wanted to know, should I buy another set of these? Or should i buy DDR4 RAM, if yes, which ones? I have a Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 motherboard. If I'm correct, it doesn't even support DDR4 and I just realised I can't add another 2 ram-sticks.

Should I buy 2x8gb DDR3 RAM then? And is there any chance to sell my old RAM memory? If yes, at what price?

edit: I just realised I can even add 2 more ram sticks, so I suppose I would have to buy new 2x8gb? And is there any chance of selling my old ram memory?

u/llooggaann · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If you're looking for new RAM, I'd just take the old stick out and replace it.

Well, 16GB isn't necessary, but it gives you a lot of headroom for the future. Also, you could make a large RAMDisk drive for faster loading times of some of your files.

If you only want 8GB, which is still more than enough even if you're a heavy gamer.

I'd recommend the Corsair Vengeance series either way, with a 2x4GB if you only want 8GB, or a 2x8GB if you're looking for more headroom.

Ignore where it mentions Intel, it works just fine with AMD too. As for the $50 difference, it may or may not be worth it to you.

There are also different colours to match your system design.

Granted, it is quite expensive RAM (but worth it), so if you're looking for something cheaper, just let me know.

u/HopeThisNameFi · 2 pointsr/buildapc

550W is plenty, but I'd rather get this which is $60 after MIR and high quality: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207014

Since you only have two RAM slots I'd jump for 8GB memory right away for $20 more: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004CRSM4I/?tag=pcpapi-20

Your videocard can be had for much less: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121391

With those savings buy a Crucial m4.

u/skyline385 · 2 pointsr/Gunners

Well i got a temporary built for you. Be warned it is slightly above 400 quids but you are into entry range high end PCs here (especially the processor) and will satisfy all your gaming needs while easily "stomping" both of the next-gen consoles.

Processor - AMD FX8320 Black Edition 8 Core

GPU - AMD HD7770 2GB

Mobo - Asus M5A97

PSU - Corsair CX750

RAM - Corsair 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 Vengeance Memory Kit

HDD - Get a local one for cheap (barely matters unless you want a SSD)

Blu-ray - That shit isn't cheap and i didn't plan on including it in my stupid estimate which i made. I don't even use a DVD writer for myself and i haven't ever felt the need for one.

Audio - Since you said you wanted excellent Audio quality, you should look up on the Asus XONAR cards and pick one according to your needs. If you just want good audio quality for some personal music and movies, you can pick up the basic Xonar cards. They all have excellent audio.

Cabinet - Can't say what you need there. Pick anything with a decent airflow and you are good to go. Else, you can do what i do and pick a cheap one while just keeping it open for the airflow. Unless you are for aesthetics, you can save a good amount of fortune here.

There are no external speakers provided in the build so you would have to use the Monitor's speakers through the HDMI. But this is an easy £30 upgrade in the future. The processor is a Haswell i5 and can be upgraded to an i7 Haswell with no compatibility issues. The GPU is also easily upgradable in the future.

The PC should run games much, much better than the prebuilt one you showed me. Again, building a PC is very easy to do if you watch a guide on the internet. It is comparable to LEGO pieces with a bit of wiring thrown in to make it more fun.

So far i read that there isnt a big difference between DDR3 and DDR4 for gaming.

Sorry I meant £600 between motherboard and processor, I don't really want a whole rebuild when I already have perfect working hhd, ssd, graphics card, cooling system, ram and power supply.

When I have a bit more money in the future I may go for a total rebuild :D

u/arbitrarysquid · 1 pointr/formula1

this is the CPU

this power supply

16GB of this

I have done network admin for a living since 1997 and know how to build a computer, I was just never really more than casually interested in gaming. Mostly playing with my sons as they were growing up on the consoles. But now that I'm getting into the racing games and have some money, I'm looking to have fun.
I understand it can run two GPU cards in tandem, but I don't know when that is better than one big card.

u/datacat · 1 pointr/buildapc

Get a kit rather than two individual ones (peace of mind).

I believe they will be compatible with your motherboard but you will need to look up your processor's specifications on the manufacturer's website (AMD, I guess?) to see what voltage RAM it works with. It's probably 1.5V but it's worth checking, just to be sure.

u/shoppinatwork · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Just a couple, but thanks so far!
To take advantage of the microcenter cpu deal I've been hearing about (pairing it with a mobo) would you recommend any of these over what you have above?:
http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

I also found this ram on sale, seemed pretty similar to me but cheaper. Thoughts?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004CRSM4I/?tag=pcpapi-20

And last but not least the video card. I've seen the Sapphire Radeon XT thrown around a lot here, any reason why the one you've recommended is better? The 2gb is about 60 bucks cheaper and I'm thinking about making some room for a SSD (I know I didn't specify that in the post..), is the current card that much better?

Thanks!

> I'm looking to do 1080p/60fps at least, or maybe 1440. With games like the witcher 3 or battlefield. Single monitor setup is fine. Also, would like to use as my streaming box for videos

The 280x is just short of Witcher 3's recommended specs. It'll play it for sure, it's a great card, but you can't expect 60fps 1440. It's impossible to tell you exactly how it will perform considering the game is not out yet, all we have to go on is the recommended specs, which is a 290.

> I haven't picked out ram in a long time; probably six years. What's the best bang for the buck with the listed motherboard? Probably 8gb

Just pick the chapest 2x4GB DDR-1600 kit from a good brand like Corsair, G.Skill, Crucial, Kingston.. I like these.

> That leaves the PSU to pick out. I would prefer a modular model since I'm a neat freak with cabling.

Always pick a good PSU brand. Corsair, Seasonic, Antec.. I'd suggest this one for the value.

> I'm also going to be using the windows 7 key from my laptop.

This will most likely not work.

I don't use any of the programs that make windows 8 more like 7, so I have no idea. I also have no idea why everyone has such a problem using the win 8 interface either. You put your mouse in the same exact place and left click to bring up the start menu, windows 8 just doesn't have a round circle in that spot.

u/Noble_King · 1 pointr/computers

Just know that you can really get an extremely good, top of the line PC for $2,000

I highly recommend trying /r/buildapc and /r/pcmasterrace, and check out 4chan's /vg/ if you want to see what people think about games right now.

From what I can see, you could save some money in a few ways:

  • Buy your peripherals on sale; Headphones, keyboard, mouse, you can get better deals on those. I recommend you shop around in stores for some good deals.

  • I believe you can get a copy of Windows 8 64-bit (home) at Staples for ~$80

  • I've had trouble with EVGA power supplies before, such as 24-pin ATX not fitting into the motherboard, bad cables out of the box, etc., although this was with the G1, and you have a G5, so I'm not sure.

  • You can save on RAM (three links included)

  • If you're a student, you can get Microsoft Office for free.

  • Your case does come with fans, but I assume you'd like the red lighting.

If you're really looking to cut costs down, you could probably live with a smaller (or without) an SSD, and mod the case fans yourself with red LEDs (quite easy to do with some wire and solder), and check out /r/microsoftsoftwareswap if it'll work out for you.

I saw you hadn't gotten any thought-out responses, good luck to you.

P.S. On a personal note, I would recommend an NVIDIA (I like MSI) graphics card, as they perform exceptionally well for the power usage, or an AMD Radeon, which is cost-effective and I like their software interface, especially for overclocking.

Couldn't quite navigate properly since search results only allowed Japanese characters, so I couldn't find appropriate choices for a monitor or a good WiFi adapter (which is necessary if you want to use WiFi). I'm also not familiar with Japanese PSUs, so I didn't recommend one. I wouldn't want to suggest something low quality, since bad PSUs can ruin your entire system.

Also, the 'English' version of the website always reverted back to the Japanese version after you left that specific link, so I couldn't quite use the sorting function so there can be some components I chose that are overpriced. I would really recommend double checking the parts I chose on Amazon to see if there are cheaper alternatives.

If the build is way over budget, I would suggest you get a cheaper R9 290 instead.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B004CRSM4I/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

However, if I do a new search for the product it shows back at £64:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1412790086&sr=1-1&keywords=Corsair+CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9+Vengeance+8GB+%282x4GB%29+DDR3

Were you viewing other sellers by any chance? Odd.

What? I bought a stick of 4gb corsair for $24 $34...

So

$34 4 = $136

$34
8 = $272

noice

And I still get ~50 fps full settings (100fps medium) on DDR3...

I have a PEGATRON IPMSB-H61 Motherboard (My uncle got it cheap)

Currently I have 4bg RAM (two sticks) I want to upgrade it to 8GB

What would be the best, compatible alternative? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1404329511&sr=1-1&keywords=8gb+ram

Will this be compatible with the motherboard I have?

Also I currently have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 440 as a graphics card (Again my uncle got it very cheaply ~4 years ago). Do you think I'll need an upgrade? If so what would be a good upgrade ~£100(around $150?).

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Vengeance-240-Pin-Platforms-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/dp/B004CRSM4I

For a fiver more you could get DDR3-1600 which although isn't a must have just could be worth getting.

Also, that HDD will set you back a £100 so might be worth thinking about an alternative if you have it till hdd prices go down.

I'd suggest sticking with a more popular brand or at least ram that is known to be reliable. Personally I stay away from OCZ as I've had very bad experiences with that company, YMMV though.

Specifically I'd suggest buying 2 of these as they seem to have pretty good reviews, and that would give you 16gb for $110.

Edit: I just noticed there is also a rebate on the product I linked, bringing the price down to $45/8gb.

I got 2x4Gb from Scan.co.uk last week for £31, exact same. :)

Here's it on Amazon

Get the 4670k because your mobo has the Z87 overclocking chipset, or if your not looking to overclock get a mobo with the H87 chipset.

You don't need 16GB of RAM for gaming, get this cheaper and faster kit instead.

And get this video card instead, it should be affordable with the cheaper RAM.

u/Irrational_Pie · 1 pointr/buildapc

Are you suggesting normal RAM because of compatibility or price? Just that RAM seems really expensive over here. If it's for compatibility then I'll use my friend's Corsair Vengeance until it's back to ~£40.

But I like the case and the keyboard :( To be fair, the case can change, but the keyboard was the cheapest I could find with backlight and UK key layout.

Could you explain the reason for the change of PSU? The Corsair is semi-modular and pretty cheap for its wattage.
Thanks for the advice! :)

My ram died on me and im a bit tight on money, does it matter if i get a single 8gb 1866 mhz ddr3 stick or a 2x 4gb 1600 mhz dual channel ddr3 kit? The single stick is cheaper than the kit and with a higher mhz but idk if it will work alone by itself.

The 2x 4gb kit:

Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz PC3 12800 240-Pin DDR3 Dual Channel Memory Kit 1.5V https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_522eAbZ44Y7Y7

The single 8gb stick:

Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM - Black (HX318C10FB/8) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J8E92I0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Gk3eAbFSS69G7

I was checking this because through my research I found that 2x4GB is way better than single channel 8GB. And compared to the original one that I was setting to buy (this) it's more expansive even though its frequency is 1333Hz

It's probably the wrong type of creative, but I've been slowly building/upgrading my own PC So I'll suggest this sweet gaming RAM.

Building a PC can be one of the most rewarding experiences there is. After slotting in a new card or even just getting a better gamepad you have an instant feeling of just how much the thing that you're creating has improved. Suddenly you can run that game at 60FPS, your browser doesn't take those extra few seconds to load, and you know exactly what it is that you did to make that happen.

And I'll summon /u/poloxamer and thank /u/frogblaster77 for summoning me! :D

Oh okay cool, I thought the older version may pose problems in the future. Also, I will probably buy everything on Amazon as it's all around the same price as Aria PC and Scan, although I'm having a problem lol. It seems cheaper to buy 2 4GB separately, rather than 2x4GB as 1 order? (I hope it's okay to post these links on reddit)

Can you show me where it is $60 BNIB? If you do, I will apologize and admit being wrong. I checked the prices before posting, but hey if I am wrong I will apologize and accept that I am wrong.

edit: please just show me a BNIB $60 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance RAM. So either I can accept my mistake and look stupid for going off on you. Or you can just accept that you were wrong.
