Try messing with the mic settings in the sound control panel if you haven't already. Something like this or an internal card like the Xonar DG or DGX should help with the mic (assuming it's working correctly and just needs a better preamp). Depending on which ohm version of the DT990s you have they could benefit from a DAC/Amp like the Fiio E10k or SMSL SD793-II.
I'm still very new to the whole audio game but I'd really like to get into it more. I've been thinking about picking up a set of open back headphones to go along with the HD 598 C's that I got recently. However, at the moment I just have the 598's (and Sennheiser Game Zeros that I'd like to replace with these headphones) plugged into my computer via a Sound Blaster Play 2. I'm not sure if that would be adequate for powering other headphones besides what I've got, and if not what would be a good solution?
Specifically I've been looking at the Audio Tecnica AD900X and Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro's, but at the same time I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Others could be suggested too.
Also, I've got a mod mic 5.0 on the way from Antlion but I've noticed 99% of the Dacs I've seen don't have a mic port. Would the mic just have to be plugged to my computers motherboard instead? I play games a lot so it's just a concern.
