So this is definitely what you want. With your model it will only go as far as El Capitan in terms of OS, and with the performance of your machine and with the assumption you wouldn't be using it for video editing, 4GB should be plenty.

8GB DDR2 SODIMM kits are very rare. 4GB kits are super cheap. Considering the rest of the laptop, anything more would be a waste anyway.
