I would recommend learning c++ before you learn c#. I used c++ all throughout college and then got a job programming in c#. It was so easy to learn and was like a dream come true in terms of ease of use. The reverse will absolutely not be the same. c++ requires you to think about a lot more.

It seems like your trying to skip a few steps here. Someone mentioned learning c# through intellisense(I kind of did too, but I also looked up a lot on MSDN). If you don't know what intellisense is you should just google it. Part of programming is finding solutions and answers on your own. If you can't figure it out then ask for help.

To answer your question. Yes there a plenty of free online sources documenting almost everything you'll need.

Here is what I recommend if you want to learn c#
-read the documentation on MSDN. Just browse through the methods for the common variable types so you can think back to them later.
-go to /r/dailyprogrammer/ They have daily programming challenges for all levels (easy, medium, and difficult). This will give you three projects that you can practice on every day. Then you can post your solutions and get feedback.

here is the book I used in college. it is 122 dollars cheaper than the latest edition. The book is probably five dollars so you can't go wrong. At least this book wont start off by telling you to learn another language.
