I would go for something like this G5587-5859BLK-PUS G5 if looks and performance are important to me.

This dell G5 tick all your boxes. check it out.

Probably something like this: Dell Gaming Laptop G5587-5859BLK-PUS G5 - 15.6" LED Anti-Glare Display - 8th Gen Intel i5 Processor - 8GB Memory - 128GB SSD+1TB HDD - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, Licorice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CD3MRZD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SWS0CbS3MHPBA.

For your budget, a laptop with a GTX 1060 6GB graphics card is likely the best you can find. The RAM and SSD could be of greater capacity; however, those things are generally simple to upgrade later when your budget allows.

Hey,

Since you want a non-gamer design, how about the Dell G5 gaming laptop? It has:

  • i5-8300H 4-core processor

  • 8 GB of RAM

  • 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD storage

  • 1080p 15.6" display

  • GTX 1060 6 GB graphics card

  • Weight of 6.3lbs and battery life up to 6.5 hours

The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. It has a GTX 1060, stronger than the GTX 1050 Ti. It has the 8th gen i5 as you asked for.

If you want a high refresh rate, then you can pick up the ASUS ROG Strix Hero Edition Gaming laptop which has a 120Hz display, cheapest laptop on the market with a high refresh rate. The design isn't the worst I've seen for a gaming device.

You can pull the trigger, the Dell G5587-5859BLK-PUS is a solid gaming laptop to get. Its build quality is good and it can adequately cool the laptop well while gaming. The only other laptop in this price range that you could consider would be the Overpowered from Walmart which has better specs but not everyone likes a rebranded laptop from Walmart

u/androgynyjoe · 3 pointsr/GirlGamers

Alright, so, if I were going to buy a laptop I'd go with this dell: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-Laptop-G5587-5859BLK-PUS-Anti-Glare/dp/B07CD3MRZD

It's listed for $800 on Amazon but it might be the best you're going to do in a laptop. It's hard to find a laptop much lower than that. This one, though, at least has a lot of storage. There's a 128GB boot drive and then a 1TB drive for storage (though you can install games on it if you want). When I was looking for my gaming laptop I found the folks at r/gaminglaptops to be pretty helpful. Here is some of their recommendations at various prices: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/ca2fzv/best_gaming_laptops_of_2019/

If you want to dip down around $600 a popular choice is the Acer Aspire e15: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7?th=1

I'm going to warn you that this isn't a powerful laptop. There are games out today that it won't run. However, for $600 I've been told that it is a solid laptop.

As for pre-built desktops it's tough to find the best deals online. One I did find was the Acer Nitro 50 for $480: https://www.microcenter.com/product/609860/nitro-50-gaming-desktop-pc

Again, not the best computer in the world, but it is solid for the price.

I would recommend finding whatever electronics stores are near you (Best Buy, etc) and look for deals. Open box deals are great, there are regular sales, and if you go regularly for a few weeks you'll likely find a solid deal.

There's one thing you're looking for: a dedicated graphics card. Every computer has "onboard" graphics that are built right into the motherboard. This is fine if you're just using a browser and word processing but not fine for games. A gaming PC needs to have a special graphics card that is added onto the motherboard. When you're looking at a computer's specs it will have a listing for "graphics." If it says something like "integrated" or "on-board" under graphics then it's not going to be for gaming. If you see something made buy Nvidia or AMD listed under graphics then you're looking at a PC made for gaming.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I would recommend this [Acer Swift 3] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BMYJ269/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20)
the casing made of brushed aluminum and looks very premium, and as you mentioned you prefer a reliable build quality.
It weighs 3.75lbs like you want.

The keyboard is a chiclet keyboard and it has a number pad like you want, typing on it feels spongy, but you get used to it quickly.

Drag and drop sometimes doesn't work as intended, but that is easily fixed with software.

Screen is glossy Full HD IPS, with very good viewing angles, the screen flickers at 200 Hz in a brightness level of 20%. if you have sensitive eyes might find this unpleasant (or you can get a headache if you are really sensitive).

The main (and maybe only) con about this laptop is how dim the screen can get, it is not usable in direct sunlight, and the coverage of colors is average (39% RGB and 61% sRGB).

Has very good heat management, and it doesn't throttle.

Speakers provide very clear sounds, and the maximum volume is pretty loud.

Battery life is very good at around 9-11 hours of usage on light to medium usage like you want.
NVIDIA MX150 which is one of the best for this range but still not great for newer games Benchmark(use the same website to check the benchmarks of the other GPU from the right hand list), and it will run Warframe and Borderlands 2 decently.

If you prefer more powerful GPU but you can accept 6lbs, then I would recommend this [Dell Inspiron] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CD3MRZD/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it has a great balance between value for money, battery life, and very good performance, here is a little detailed review of it:
Screen hinge in the center, which makes the display very stable.
The keyboard has a number pad like you want.
You can open the display with one hand without any problems.

Comes with 3 USB and 1 USB type C that supports Thunderbolt.

Comes with Intel Wireless-AC 9560 which promises 1.7Gb/s but only delivers 485MBit/s (shouldn't be an issue unless you have such a very high speed and the need for it).

Easily upgradeable since you only need to remove a single screw to access the back of the laptop to replace/upgrade ram and storage.

Comes with chiclet keyboard with average sized keys.

The typing noises is not audible (except for the space key).

The touchpad is large and defined by red accent, the keys (left, right) are in the touchpad itself (not separate keys), and gives a quiet clicking sound when pressed and supports gesture controls with several fingers.

Display is the main con of the unit, it is not super bright (to the point of issues in direct sunshine).

Screen has low sRGB and RGB coverage (57% sRGB and 36% AdobeRGB) and low constractions.

Screen doesn't come with PWM or Screen flickering (it is a good thing because screens that have it put strain on your eyes).

Screen is IPS so it has good viewing angles, but also has slow response rate when compared to TN panels.

Fan noise is another small con, while the sound is low under light usage, it does get loud while gaming but not to the point of it being annoyingly loud.

Heat management on it is very good, and its main selling point along with value for money, CPU/GPU don't throttle(much it is still within acceptable level) and don't get hot to the point of internal damage (however, it does hot enough to be uncomfortable on your lap).

Speakers are user facing, so there is no muffled sound, however, it doesn't offer much base.

It comes with GTX 1060 Max Q and it will run Warframe and Borderlands 2 on medium to high settings. You can check the below link to see how the 1060 Max Q GPU (scroll down for the FPs and settings expected or ctrl+f then type the name of your game).

When you say "processing pictures and making videos" I'm assuming that you will be editing hi res photos and video. You will still need a decent GPU to handle that as integrated graphic are shit, unless you go for an AMD-based system.

Dell has 3 laptop product lines that would fulfill your needs.

XPS - this is their premium line that will have the best display quality, build quality, and internals. However, that gets a bit expensive. A used 9560 should fit in your price range, though would be pushing it if your country has a VAT and shipping costs.

Precision - this is dell's workhorse. It's a professional laptop made for doing videocediting, CAD work, etc. However, these too are a bit expensive, but you can find used or refurbished machines on ebay well within your price point. Check out the 2016 and 2017 models.

G3/5 g this is their gaming line. They will have not so good build quality, clunky, shit battery, but will do the job as all of the frills will be sacrificed for the specs. I'm in the US so this is a US link but will point you in the right direction. Its $800, has an 8th gen i5 processor (its quad core and the i7 only gives a slight boost that isn't worth the upgrade) and a gtx1060 that can handle video editing fairly well, unless you're dealing with raw 4k video. The display isn't the best. It's mostly made of plastic and weighs about 5 lbs (3.5-4kg) and the battery life isnt good. However, it will do what you need it to do.

u/EINHAMMER · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

under $1000 you're probably not going to get a lot performance wise. this might be your best bet: Dell Gaming Laptop G5587-5859BLK-PUS G5 - 15.6" LED Anti-Glare Display - 8th Gen Intel i5 Processor - 8GB Memory - 128GB SSD+1TB HDD - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, Licorice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CD3MRZD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CpC2CbABERW6Y

I actually have done some PC gaming before so I'm plenty familiar with Steam/GOG/etc. I just haven't been able to run anything more graphically intensive than CS:GO or Skyrim and know fuck all about actual computer hardware.

As for the laptops I've looked at so far this is the [Acer] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CTHLX8C/?coliid=I2XEIN4MPDL79P&colid=1DG0XRXJ2X4HS&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1) and this is the [Dell G5] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CD3MRZD/ref=twister_B07FKR9DDX?_encoding=UTF8&coliid=ISCN5X5CSN26H&colid=1DG0XRXJ2X4HS&th=1).

I mainly just want something that'll last for a few years and be able to run new games at mid to high graphics without turning into a slideshow.

u/aleishabb · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

Given your budget you have a few options but since you want some longevity out of the laptop I would recommend the Dell i7577-5241BLK-PUS which has the specs and the build quality to last you a while. Now the GTX 1060 GPU might not be the newest GPU out there especially now that RTX has been released but it can still run AAA games on high settings and get good fps

· 15.6" FHD IPS

· i5-8300H,

· GTX 1060 6GB Graphics,

· 8GB Memory,

· 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD,

· 5.76 lbs

The system will boot quickly with the OS on the fast SSD and videos, pictures and large files can be stored on the HDD

u/jklemon17 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I've read good things about this Dell G5, including that it has better cooling than other budget models.

u/ITman2000 · 2 pointsr/GamingLaptops

How about the [Dell G5] (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-Laptop-G5587-5859BLK-PUS-Anti-Glare/dp/B07CD3MRZD?SubscriptionId=AKIAJQYFXGBZ6MDO67HQ&tag=shopineer-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B07CD3MRZD) which comes with a 8th gen i5 processor, gtx 1060 gpu which you dont normally find at this price range. Wonderful IPS screen display. Furthermore, has 6 hours of abttery life.

u/JoshJosherMan · 2 pointsr/oculus

I'm sorry but in what fucking world are these the "cheapest" laptops you can buy for VR? What about all the laptops under $1000 with a 1060 inside? Just a quick Amazon search shows this Dell G5 for $799 shipped and sold by Amazon or over on Newegg they have this Asus for $699. C'mon this article is laughable merely for the fact that the title talks about cheapest laptops and some of the laptops list their only cons as "price".

u/Spacechicken27 · 2 pointsr/laptopgaming

Hey! So you’re looking for around a $1000 laptop with a 1050 or higher, most likely with 16Gb of DDR4 Ram, and i7- 8750H would be great, with some nice looks. generally Dell has the least in your face “IM A GAMING LAPTOP” looks so this list may have a couple

There are some options around that price point, but everylaptop with have different tradeoffs between Heat, Size, Looks, Power, Battery life, etc.

  1. $800 Dell Inspiron G5587-5859BLK-PUS I’m including this one mainly because the price caught my eye. Specs: i5 8300H, 8GB DDR4 Ram, 128Gb SSD + 1Tb HDD, GeForce GTX 1060 -6gb.

  2. $1265 Dell 7855 G7 15 this laptop is a little more expensive, but it one of the sleeker looking laptops for gaming. Specs: i7-8750H, 512 SSD, 16Gb DDR4, GeForce GTX 1060 6Gb. (Ps, I saw an add for this at $1050, so maybe there is a better deal than on amazon)

  3. $1050 2019 Dell G3 keeping with Dell this is the generation before the one above, main difference will be the downgrade from a 1060 -> 1050 Ti. Specs: i7-8750h, 512SSD, + 1tb HDD, 16Gb DDR4, GTX 1050 ti

  4. $1050 Acer Spin 5 This one is an interesting one, because it can also convert into a tablet, not a common feature for gaming laptops. It is fairly nicer looking, but also only has a HDD drive which is much slower than an SSD, however it also is at a reduced price at the moment Specs: i7-8550U, GeForce GTX 1050, 8GB DDR4, 1Tb HDD

I hope one of these caught your eyes. Often what each person values in a laptop varies greatly, so just keep looking and you’ll find something

I've been searching myself and I'm pretty sold on the I5-8300 / GTX 1060 version of the Dell G5.

u/Darth_Grevious · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Hey wyatt850. When I entered the link you put there were 2 computers. One with 200$ more than the other. And also I was told that the Dell gaming laptop was a sold option. Here's the link:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07CD3MRZD/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8.
Which of the 3 do you recommend?

I don't think it's worth that much more, that price is approaching 1060 money. Example: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07CD3MRZD/ref=olp_f_new?ie=UTF8&f_new=true
