Although the panel is TN, this always gets good reviews, and is always on sale!

u/Syntonomy617 · 17 pointsr/buildapcsales

On Amazon as well for the same price.

Why can't the 27" go on sale. I missed the last BestBuy one a month ago, I wasn't planning on building a computer/going for such an expensive monitor. Now I have all my parts except for a monitor. Can't decide on which to get, and can't get in on the limited stock Refurb ones either.

Anyone have suggestions? Regarding the 27" Dell, the Asus or the Acer?

u/ShotIntoOrbit · 16 pointsr/buildapcsales

CCC shows it's dropping by steps the past few days. Amazon's pricing algorithm is have a price war with something. Hold men, hold.

u/StrayCam · 15 pointsr/buildapcsales

Filtered according to your specifications

165hz $308

144hz $225

No clue how worth it those prices are but that's all I found for 24" 1440p 144hz

u/FedExPope · 14 pointsr/buildapc

Not sure what your budget is, but I picked this one up recently and really like it. 1440p, 165Hz, G-sync, 24" TN panel

u/Russ916 · 12 pointsr/buildapcsales

Is this really considered a deal when there is the Dell S2417DG, which also is a 24" G Sync monitor at higher resolution of 2560x1440 and Overclocks to 165Hz for $399.99 on the Dell website, Amazon, as well as Best Buy who also happen to have an open box of it at $354.99.

u/lesgeddon · 11 pointsr/buildapcsales

Damn, it's 24" little brother just shipped for me and I paid $40 more. Welp, nothing 's leaving the box it shipped in until next week. Gonna take a lot of self control.

Edit: On second thought, I'll stick with the smaller one since it's 165hz refresh and closer in size to what I currently have.

I'm going to be buying this one soon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK

It's 144hz, gsync, and sup $400.

It's also 1440p.

I have a 27" 1440p now, but it's a 60hz IPS and I've decided that 27" is to big for my tastes. I have to sit to far back from it to get a good view on it and I want to have 3 screens, so I'm going to get 3 of these dells.

u/DigitalApple123 · 10 pointsr/buildapc

The dell s2417dg is an amazing monitor that checks all your boxes, but it 1440p. However, it is very cheap AND even better it goes on sale all the time. Lurk dealsource.tech and r/buildapcsales to find a good deal.

I actually prefer the 24" version of 1440. I have a Dell 24" with G-Sync and it's the best goddamn monitor I've ever used.

Edit: It also overclocks to 165hz which is exceptionally nice.

u/Mattb150 · 8 pointsr/pcmasterrace

They make a 24" version that is several hundo cheaper if you're looking for max affordability. But the 27" is great.

24" on Amazon

u/Gorka90 · 7 pointsr/Competitiveoverwatch

Dell 2417dg is one of the best choice (I just got mine).

165hz - G-sync - 24" 2k (1440p) - 1 ms (of course) -

TN panel ---> but check some reviews it as one of the best color accuracy and viewing angles compared to shitty Benq 1080p monitors.

399$ in amazon US atm this is honestly the best monitor fast and optimized for gaming, but still great for movies.

Dell S2417DG

I got it on sale for ~$325 a few months ago. There's some backlight bleed on the bottom edge and the colors are only so-so (coming from an IPS display) but the gaming performance is unreal.

u/TheElderCthulhu · 6 pointsr/Monitors

I’m in a similar situation, and I was actually looking at the Dell S2417DG YNY1D. It’s not an IPS panel (I believe), but since you have an Nvidia card, you’ll be able to utilize Gsync.

I found it for ~$400 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK

24" Dell S2417DG with G-Sync, 1440p, 165 Hz Refresh, 1ms response for $350 on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK

u/Telnaryn · 5 pointsr/Monitors

The [Dell S2417DG] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/) is on sale on Amazon.com for $400 USD right now. I don't have any personal experience with it, but reviews look good. It's basically just the 24" variant of the S2716DG you mentioned yourself. It's worth mentioning that the Amazon product description does not indicate that it's 144hz, but the [Dell product page] (http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-s2417dg-monitor/pd) does.

u/iMisterPotato · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

Amazon has it too: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK

Amazon says LED but Im not sure. If you have an Amazon Prime card, you can get the 5% cash back bringing this monitor to 380 + tax? Though, Im sure youll have to pay tax for BestBuy too.

u/TrueDiligence · 5 pointsr/buildapc

Just a heads-up, the Dell S2417DG is 1440p 165hz and G-Sync capable for only $365. If your GPU can handle it (I would recommend a GTX 1080 or higher, but for competitive titles a 1070 would also work) it is a great buy. The only major problem I have with the monitor is the color banding. I don't notice it when playing games like Overwatch, but do notice it while playing Hollow Knight and other games with a dark color palette.

u/Meltingteeth · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

The 24" is going for the same price on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK/

BestBuy also seems to have an Openbox option on the bottom of the page for $314.99.

Edited: Got the size wrong because my mother beat me as a child.

u/babbyfm · 5 pointsr/buildapc

I have the gsync version of this monitor ( which I would recommend if you have an nvidia gpu, it was only about $30 more when I got it however it is the 24' variant). I assume it is like mine and does not have speakers which doesnt bother me given that I use headphones almost exclusively. I think it is a solid monitor for the price, however dont be alarm if your colors dont look quite right out of the box, there are alot of forum posts giving better settings for color accuracy and other things. Also my roommate has the same monitor and we both have noticed a slight issue where it will move a row of pixels in the middle to the left side of the monitor, dont fret because this is fixed simply by just turning the monitor off and on again, takes maybe 15 secs so it hasn't been too big of a deal.

Overall I think it is a solid monitor for what you're paying, not the best of the best, but by no means the worst. And as far as gaming is concerned being at 144hz in 1440p is great, although it does raise your standards a bit so console just feels wrong XD.

lastly this is not some sort of flash sale, these lines of monitors are constantly on sale, given I bought mine over a year ago and my roommate was able to find the same deal on the 27' version 6 months later for about $350 I think.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this was helpful in some way :)

Here is a link to my exact monitor, only 24' however it is gsync and only $315 currently: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DGR-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1

u/BruceLeeSin · 4 pointsr/buildapcforme

Ryzen uses dual channel, so get 2 x 8GB sticks of ram instead of 1 x 16GB sticks. The B350 /u/manojk92 mentioned above has 4 slots for ram, so you'll have room to add more down the line.

It's also not true that you need more than 8GB of ram. 1 or 2 games might recommend 12GB, but 99% of the time 8GB is more than enough. I'd still advise getting 16GB to make sure you never find yourself needing more, but if you had to save money you could get 1 x 8GB stick now and then buy another 8GB stick in a month or a couple weeks when you have more cash.

450W PSU is enough and leaves about 100W of headroom for that build's max power draw, but keep in mind if you upgrade in the future to more power hungry parts, you might want to consider getting a higher wattage PSU. Especially if you overclock. That 450W one is decent and so cheap, I wouldn't get a higher wattage one right now unless you find one of equal quality for about the same price (which isn't likely to happen).

That monitor is also freesync - which the 1080 doesn't support. Another option would be this which is on sale for $380 + tax right now. 1440p, 165Hz, 24", and has Gsync. Gsync prevents screen tearing when your fps drops below the frequency (Hz) your monitor operates at, and it only works with Nvidia cards. Freesync, which the acer above has, only works with AMD cards. It'll be very noticeable during cut scenes - lot of games cap fps during cut scenes to 30.

u/mynameisshittt · 4 pointsr/buildapc

A realistic answer haha? Anyways, I can strongly suggest getting a monitor for GSync with a setup like mine. Itll help relieve the stress of dropping frames since its on the entry level of 1440p 144hz gaming. If you have a beast card like a 2080ti that probably isnt as necessary. I have this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/nolvatron · 4 pointsr/buildapc

I believe he's talking about the S2417DG. It does go down to $350 regularly for the 24 inch, sometimes even below, but it looks to be $400 on amazon right now.

I used to own this monitor. While it's bang-for-buck on paper, the contrast is poor and colors weren't great (expected of a TN panel), mine had noticeable backlight bleeding, and sometimes the display would flicker when GSYNC was on while gaming.

That being said, it's still a great gaming monitor with very low latency. If you want GSYNC, you won't find a cheaper regional monitor with these specs. I wouldn't buy it if you plan on doing anything with it other than gaming, though.

If you're interested in a really in-depth review, rtings has one on this monitor.

How can you even justify it for yourself let alone your parents? Jokes aside, for cheaper than that price you can get a 1440p 165hz G-Sync 24in Monitor. Which is better in almost every way aside from the refresh rate, which is still really high. Older people tend to react better to higher resolution over higher refresh rates (Which this thing still also has). Also, the fact that it doesnt look like a gaming monitor means it might be easier to justify it to them.

u/sixfourtysword · 4 pointsr/pcgaming

I HIGHLY recommend this monitor. I've purchased about 4 of them for various builds I've done and it's the best bang for the buck https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK

Here's the Dell for anyone curious.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=twister_B01N5DR9U9?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

There's only 5 left when I posted this...possibly 4 depending on whether or not I cave.

Is G-Sync worth the extra tax? I'm dying and have been on the edge of buying a monitor for like 5 months...is this probably the best price I will get on a similar monitor?

u/LazyPythonPlayz · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Dell S2417DG. It's only 24" but it has g-sync and is 165hz.

u/Chongin · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

Also available on Amazon for the same price with Prime Shipping if you have a Prime account.

u/mwax321 · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

Fair warning. I bought two of these about 3 weeks ago and returned BOTH to Newegg/Pixio. Both had some sort of issue where the menu buttons would stop working after being on for about an hour. If you pressed a menu button, the entire screen would turn into flickering green/red bars. Power button would stop working, even. The only fix is to unplug, wait 5 min, plug back in.

I instead bought two Dell Gaming S2417DG 165hz GSync Monitors. They were the only 24" 1440p 144hz+ monitors. They are NOT IPS, but they look fantastic (after a moderate amount of tweaking).

The Pixio stand is hot garbage too. Highly recommend a VESA stand if you buy this.

u/SeafoodDuder · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I would spend an extra $50 and get this Dell Gaming monitor.

1440p, 144 hz, 1 ms, g-sync.

Use the calibration settings from the top rated comment on amazon.

Hey OP it's [$399.99 right now on amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1). I don't think it'll go lower on black friday (should I wait)?

u/Brostradamus_ · 3 pointsr/buildapc
For 1080p 60fps, you really only need a 580/1060 6GB. Anything beyond that is overkill--this build could knock $500 off and still do 1080p60fps in just about every game.

In my opinion, the 1070, VEGA 56, and VEGA 64 are all overpriced for what you get out of them. 1060 6GB or find a refurb/on sale 1080 if you feel like spending the extra money.

...For 700 fucking dollars you can get a 1080Ti instead of a VEGA 64. I've also made some other tweaks to your build to maximize performance and reduce wasted space/resources:

Don't need the extra cooler with a Ryzen 1600 as the cooler it comes with is quite good already.

Switched the case to a Define C, which is essentially a smaller version of the Define S, and will fit your build fine, unless you're adding a custom water loop. Tempered Glass side panel is badass too.

Smaller, Drastically cheaper Power Supply will do just fine.

Fit a 1080Ti in your budget.

Hi all. I need a monitor for an ordered build. I'll have a GTX 1080 running with an 6700k, but I know little about monitors. I've also kinda run through my budget, and will be limited on what I can drop for a monitor. I'd like to spend about $400, but can probably stretch that to $500 for the right deal.

Will an IPS work if it's only at about 60hz, 5ms Refresh rate? Or should I bite the bullet and pay a little extra for a G-sync capable 144hz TN? Both are 2560 x 1440. These are what I'm looking at:

27" IPS:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VRKVGSC/ref=dp_cerb_1
24" G-Sync TN:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1
27" G-Sync TN:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/437547/ROG_Swift_PG278Q_27_WQHD_G-Sync_LED_Monitor

Any other options are welcome! I wasn't sure if G-Sync was really necessary, or even a high refresh rate. Thanks all!

u/ll3ubbles · 3 pointsr/Monitors

Ok, what's your budget to begin with?
And what's the main purpose of the monitor? (Gaming, art, design, etc..)

I recently bought a Dell S2716DG/R for my gaming rig and was pleasantly surprised with the picture quality. (Upgraded from a 1080p 32" TV monitor.)

Specs of the Dell
-27" screen
-2560 x 1440 at 144hz (DisplayPort)
-G-Sync
-1ms Response
-TN panel (I know you're looking for an IPS)
-Color Gamut (typical): 82% (CIE1976), 72% (CIE 1931) Color depth: 16.7 Million colors
-DisplayPort and HDMI
-2 USB 3.0 ports

Price: Bought it on 08/26/2017 at $449 (Best Buy) (Wait for the price drop, maybe you can get it for lower.)

Now, there's a 24" version that I've seen go down to $380 at Amazon. Dell 2417DG

If you can try to see the monitor in operation before buying, go check it out. But, it's been an amazing Switch for me and the colors have been way better than my original screen.

^ This is my pick.

Another monitor to consider

AOC Agon AG271QX

I've looked into this and was going to get it, until I found the Dell on sale... pretty good reviews. (Look outside of Amazon reviews, those are mixed with other products)

24" ver. of the AOC

u/sherl0k · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

I have the AOC AGON 24'' 1440p 144hz. Freesync, bought originally to pair with my Vega 64. it is certifed gsync compatible as well. I bought a RTX2070 afterwards and yeah, gsync works just fine. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WVN6CWT?psc=1

Dell makes a pure gsync 24'' 1440p 165hz, it goes on sale somewhat often: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK haven't used this before, search the subreddit and you'll find many a thread

and that's it. literally nobody else makes high refresh rate monitors at this size/resolution. these are your options.

u/Sped32_DJ · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Gaming headsets don't do much compared to real headphones besides the looks and comfort that they give you (is they offer comfort) get ATH M50x. They are nice headphones at $150 they sound really nice, get an AMP if you want better quality in the sound. The way they make 7.1 audio is that they use software. You can use Microsofts 7.1 audio (only in the newest update of Windows 10) or you can use Razer's 7.1 FREE 7.1 audio software. Does the Motherboards I/O please you? Why don't you get it on water. The RAM is at a good speed (the sweet spot of RAM speeds). Look at cases like the DeepCool Genome and the Corsair 570x case. Those are cases that I think look cool at a similar price (the DepoCool Genome comes with a CPU water cooler with a reservoir and 3 fan radiator pre installed).
Edit: 144Hz in 1440p is really nice and you will love it. Dell makes a 1440p 144Hz monitor too that looks nice and professional and it is 27 inches. Right now the monitor cost less in Dells website, the only thing that is bad is pixel inversion but you can enable ULMB. This monitor has the nicest stand I have ever seen even and it is really nice. You can't make a better stand then this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apis_1499057239133

If I talk about prices, I talk about American prices. Get SLI you can do 1440p 144 Hz at all games with make settings with no problems.

u/ComradeShyGuy · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

4k is 4x the resolution of 1080. It doesn't matter the size of the monitor in corresponding to resolution and graphics power. 24 or 27 at 4k won't matter. It'd be the same number of pixels the gpu needs to render. Only thing that chances is the pixel density, but depending on how far you sit back, it may not matter.

I think if you want to stay at 24, I think 1440p would be good for you.

Note: If you pretty much only play csgo there's no need to get a gsync monitor as those cost much more and gsync is disabled when the game goes above the monitor's refresh rate. Your 1060 will play csgo at well over 144 fps even at 1440p. If you plan on playing "beefier" games at 1440p gsync is recomended.

I would definitely go with 1440p for just gaming. I have a 4k monitor at work at a 1440p one for personal use. I can't really notice a difference with gaming between 1440p and 4k unless you put them side by side doing the same thing. I think 1440p would fit better into your budget and requires far less graphical power to drive. There is a massive difference between 4k and 1440p for viewing lots of text on the screen at once so you if you anything like that it might be worth it. I would also recommend that you take a look at IPS panels and adaptive refresh rate monitors (g-sync for nvidia). IPS is slightly slower (it won't matter unless you play very competitive games) and costs more. However, it will display more colors and will display them more accurately. G-sync allows your graphics card to dynamically set the refresh rate of your monitor which leads to a far better gaming experience, especially when your frame rate is below 120hz. My personal monitor has both of these technologies and they make a big difference.
The monitor you picked out has a 60hz refresh rate, that's fine for casual gaming but I recommend you pick out one with a higher refresh rate before you get one in 4k.

Been at this price the past few days on Newegg. Most of us know about Newegg's dead pixel policy and its minimum of 8 pixels needed for a return. This deal is with Amazon Prime, sold new, and according to CamelCamelCamel is the lowest this monitor has ever been for a new product sold by Amazon.

u/WirelessTrees · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

This is what I literally ordered an hour ago.

It's 1440p, 144hz, and Gsync. all at a really low price.

I wish I knew if Gsync was worth it, but this monitor is such a low price, I can't even complain.

However, I do have an answer for having 2 different monitors. I have an Asus VG248QE and an LG 25um57-b. One is an ultrawide IPS, and one is a 144hz 16:9 beast. I personally don't find any issue with how they look side by side, although I wish the Asus had smaller bezels.

For your SSD, why not go with a M.2 NVME SSD? (Samsung 950 Pro as an example)

I agree with the other users, and get a better ram. The Dominators or Tridents might go better with the look of your case.

I personally don't know anything about Silverstone for PSUs. I personally have an EVGA P2 which works wonderfully, and the G2s/G3s are awesome PSUs.

Lastly, you have a Titan Pascal and youre only driving a 1080p monitor. If you only have clearance for 24in monitor, try this Dell or Acer. These are 1440p monitors of the same size, so you'll get better pixel density.

Add to that https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK as a display. It supports Gsync, which should be your absolute priority to get that smooth gameplay you want.

I'd keep the keyboard. No need swapping out parts that work fine.

The build has an i7-7700K, which is currently the strongest gaming processor. The 1080 Ti is the strongest gaming gpu. 16GB of fast ram, a white case with purple accents. 3TB HDD (7200 RPM, 64MB cache) and a regular 2.5" SATA SSD, with 480GB in target size.

You can overclock this build, but you don't have to.

PS: SLI is not a good option currently, since games don't support it properly. Cooling two gpus is indeed a problem, ideally one uses blower style fans, because they move the air out of the back. But on its own those fans are worse than the axial fans.
u/ThaiTeaWhyTeas · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Get the 24" version. It's the same specs except for actual size and it actually has a high refresh rate (165 Hz) and higher pixel density (same number of pixels, less spread out). It looks amazing. Plus, high resolution plus high pixel density means you can turn off AA without making a game look bad.

There's nothing wrong with this monitor, that's just my two cents on the choices.

Inb4 "but the UI scaling is terrible!" - no it's not.

Edit: and the 24" version can be had for $359.99 ( I just paid $399 a couple weeks ago.)

You could downgrade to a 24" monitor that has 165Hz refresh rate, and save ~$250, and put that to a 1080Ti: 24-inch monitor

u/Garn-himself · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Hey man, after just recently buying a 1440p 144hz IPs panel for my 1080 i cannot ever go back to 1080p. The gtx 1080 is an absolute monster that can easily handle 2k resolution on the games you will be playing. at an absolute best case scenario i would reccomend a good IPS panel like the Acer Predator XB271HU even snagging it refurbished though will cost you over six hundred dollars assuming australian prices.

TN panels tend to be weaker on colors, however if you are on a budget this panel here https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1 has absolutely everything you need. the downsides are its 24 inches but it is MUCH cheaper and its such a high quality TN panel there really isnt a tremendous difference.

G-synch unfortunately adds like 150 dollars onto the price of monitors. It is however pretty awesome after having played with it. It dynamically changes your monitors refresh rate to match the FPS you are getting in game. makes gaming feel noticeably smoother IMO.

u/NeuralDecay · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

Suprised no one has mentioned the Dell S2417dg yet. It meets all of your requirements (144Hz, G-sync, ~$400) and adds 1440p. Not sure whats going on with the price atm but sales on it are posted somewhat frequently to r/buildapcsales so if you don't mind waiting thats probably the best option.

If you want 1080p you can get a freesync/nosync for ~$250 (I'll second the recommendation on the Viewsonix XG2401 and you can also consider the LG 24GM77 and BenQ XL2430T). G-sync at 1080p doesn't exist (at a reasonable price) for some reason.

u/Cauhauna · 2 pointsr/Windows10

thanks for posting this, and yes, i did need to disable it.

In short, I use Nvidia settings to calibrate my Gsync monitor as per the first review here (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK).

Over the past 3 months, I played using those settings. Today, I updated Windows and noticed the colors were very washed out when playing overwatch. I uninstalled/reinstalled my graphics driver, but of course that only worked until i launched overwatch. I tested a few other games, and they were "broken" too.

Turns out the only thing broken was this useless setting in Windows 10. LOL!

HDMI 2.0, takes the 4k signal and downsamples it to 1440p (good thing, take a big picture, make it smaller, see quality go up).

Plus it's cheaper. And curved. Thing came out costing over $500 originally, and it's Samsung, so it's not poor quality.

Don't like curved? Pick whichever one your wallet prefers.

That being said, unless you're going with an AMD GPU, consider paying the Gsync tax..

I've had mine for 5 Months and no problems so far...The beezels are also very slip, and mounting it somewhere is really easy too.

u/Falconeer · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The purpose of adaptive sync (G-Sync / Freesync) is to prevent screen tearing and other artifacts when the GPU can't keep up with the monitor's refresh rate. Screen tearing takes place when the GPU starts displaying a frame and half way through switches to another frame.

I'm pushing an Acer 4k G-Sync (XB280HK) with 980 Ti SLI. 4k is a lot of pixels to render; G-Sync smooths the transitions when the GPU can't keep up.

In regards to a G-Sync monitor; I bought my Acer as a certified mfg refurbished for $480 in 2015. Amazon has them for $443 USD. There are a number of them out these days. Here is a 24" Dell G-Sync 1440p for $420.

I'd skip 1080p; I'd be surprised if the 980 Ti couldn't keep up on the highest graphics settings.

An example:

 • A single 980 Ti will run GTAV @ 4k @ 60fps+ @ medium settings.
 • The 980 Ti SLI runs GTAV @ 4k @ 60fps+ @ high/ultra (with occasional dips that I don't see thanks to the G-Sync). :)

> I know I at least want an 144 Hz monitor and have heard disagreement as to whether a higher refresh rate would lead to any significant difference in performance.

>I was originally leaning towards 1440p monitors but my friend said that it's not worth the price and is not supported as much as 1080p. He also said that 1440p can distort certain programs' UIs and create unwanted problems. Is this a correct assessment?

Virtually every game on the market that isn't trash shovelware (and even some/most of those do, too) will support 1440p.

And the distortion your friend is talking about, I *only experience it on Spotify where some of the text on the 'friend activity' sidebar becomes blurry. Here's the Windows UI that some complain about being too small. I don't really mind it, but to each their own. I wouldn't allow it to influence my choice in monitor, personally.

The best resource for monitors is NCX. Dude is fantastic when it comes to monitor recommendations. Out of that selection of monitors (plus 1), I'd personally go for either the S2417G or the XG2401.

I don't like VA monitors because, while they're in the middle of IPS and TN for color accuracy while still having low input lag, they can be bad when it comes to ghosting. Immediate no-no from me.

I'm buying the Ikea Malm desk for my apartment;I currently have two of these 24 in G-Sync monitors, and I was thinking of VESA mounting them onto the desk.

Does anyone have experience with using a VESA mount on this particular desk? I was considering using the Amazon Basics dual VESA mount arm, but then I saw some people online who have had their VESA mounts smash through Ikea desks. However, each arm supports 20lbs, and the monitors themselves only weigh 8.3lb each, so I'm inclined to think that the arms wouldn't be too stressed?

As an alternative, I also considered getting two of the single arm mounts, because those might distribute the weight more evenly across the desk.

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated!

For UHD your only option is 60hz. You can get a QHD and 144hz if you want the higher refresh rate (I would highly recommend this for gaming over 60hz UHD).

I would recommend this monitor or the smaller version (occasionally goes down to $400, comes with 3 year warranty in opposed to the refurb's 90 day). It's not IPS and it's not 4K, but it is QHD with 144hz (165hz on the 24") with G-SYNC and it's not too much over what I'd be willing to spend on a monitor for a $2k build.

u/cats_on_cats · 2 pointsr/Monitors

With your 970 you wouldn't be able to take advantage of freesync technology, if you wanted to take advantage of adaptive sync technology would have to be g-sync. I want to say there is a Dell 24" 1440 g-sync https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK that's not too bad as far as g-sync goes, but I have heard that 1440p doesn't look all that great on a 24 inch screen, would need at least 27, also that's a TN panel, ips panels are going to obviously jack the price up even more. I'm not all that familiar with that monitor though so look around for other reviews of that monitor.

You can also go to pcpartpicker.com and search for individual parts, click on monitors and set your parameters to what you want, and it will give you a good idea of what's out there and the price.

I've entered In some parameters, feel free to change them to what you were specifically looking for. On mobile so hopefully the link works https://pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#W=2300,2500&r=256001440,192001080&H=0,144&A=1

Yeah, I've already ordered all the parts, but I have other reasons for a $1200 GPU and 32 GB of ram. What I do not understand is why this is so much cheaper than any of the other 165hz 1440p monitors... help? Vs like this and this like I know they're 27", but still. Also, I need help deciding if I should get 27" or 24"

u/TransientBananaBread · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I would definitely recommend 1440p/144 Hz then. The added smoothness and responsiveness for competitive titles is very nice to have. If you are okay with the size, this monitor is a killer deal right now. 1440p, 165 Hz and GSync.

u/Caleb10E · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Dell S2417DG, it's a 24" 1440p monitor so games will look extra sharp and smooth on this guy.

It also comes with G-Sync, which isn't just beneficial in multiplayer games. If you've played with V-Sync off, you'll probably notice how bad screen tearing can be in some games. G-Sync eliminates screen tearing in any game, so you don't have to be playing CS:GO or Overwatch to notice the benefits of G-Sync.

u/cyberintel13 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The Dell S2417DG is 2560x1440p 165hz with GSYNC for $320. It has really good color once you calibrate it. I personally have this monitor and it's amazing. Highly recommend for gaming @1440p!

This is probably a good bet, if you're planning on an NVidia GPU based upgrade as well. 1440p and 165Hz, G-Sync compatible (so games that don't run at 165Hz will still display smoothly), and overall very well reviewed.

This is the monitor. I absolutely love it. Kinda wish I had gotten the 27" version only because I have the space on my desk. As far as 2K monitors go, there isn't a better one on the market. If you have the desk space and the extra money, I would spring for the 27". But all in all I have been incredibly satisfied. Since its got G-SYNC, Nvidia makes it seamless to configure game settings and optimize things.

Well, imo (and almost everyone's opinion) the best 1440p 144hz monitor on the market right now is the ASUS ROG Swift. With that you'll also get a 27" screen, 1ms response time, G-Sync, plus a lot of other great features. This one is also pricey though; it runs about $638 USD. It really is the best monitor out there right now though.

If that is a bit too much for you, there is a Dell alternative that has a lot of the same features including GSync. It is still a bit pricey at about $595 USD. IMO if you're going to get one of these two, the ASUS one is heaps better.

Those are the only two 27 inch 144hz 1440p monitors on the market right now.

If you still dont want to spend that much, there is a 24 inch Dell model for only $450 USD. This is the best option if you want all the great features (GSync, 1440p, 144hz, 1ms response time, etc). This one isn't as good as the first two, but it is under $500 USD.

If you had to choose, which of these two monitors would you go with:

 1. Dell 27' QHD

 2. Dell 24' Inch QHD w/ G-Sync
u/senorroboto · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't have any specific model recommendations but I'll say I've been happy with my monitors from Dell and Acer over the years, and I hear good things about Asus and BenQ models.

Maybe one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Gaming-VG27BQ-Monitor-155Hz-DisplayPort/dp/B07WPFP6S4

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK (24" and 27" versions on this page)

24" vs 27" for a 1440p screen is kinda a personal preference thing. 24" is less area for your eyes to sweep for enemies, but also can cause scaling issues for text in windows at default settings, some legacy apps might be very tiny. But it also has great pixel density kinda like a phone or 4k screen does and will look very crisp.

27" is less dense but still pretty dense, and is nice and big so if you aren't sitting super close, still easy to see.

u/Taymurf · 1 pointr/Monitors

I am thinking about splurging and getting this monitor, do you think this is a good choice or is there something wrong with it that I'm not seeing?

u/qualitypi · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I'd reccommend this Dell. Pixel density on the 24" screen is nice, but if you prefer larger theres a 27" for $100 more. It is the most inexpensive 1440p monitor with g-sync I've seen, and I really can't go back from g-sync myself.

Colors are kinda washed out out of the box, but tuning the desktop color settings and the monitor settings will make it look really nice.

u/iDeDoK · 1 pointr/Amd

Or you can get an even cheaper 1440p 165hz panel with Gsync and have an actually good GPU upgrade path. But you should know that 1080p looks like blurry shit on 1440p panel.

There's only a $25 disparity between this 1080p G-Sync monitor and this 1440p G-Sync monitor. They're both similar panels as well, although I bet t he Dell looks better in person.

[Closest you'll get with G-Sync] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/). It's only 24" and uses a TN panel. I'd recommend getting an IPS one but those are over $700 (it's worth it as an investment IMO since it's going to last a long time before getting outdated). The 27" version would be better but it's ridiculously over-priced ATM.

Cpu- one of the best ryzen cpus on the market, the 1800x will surely be able to handle anything you throw at it. It's also overclockable as you said you might want the option later on
CPU cooler- nzxt kraken water cooler for easy cooling when the 1800x is overclocked
Mobo- x370 gaming motherboard can overclock and has room for 4 sticks of ram.
Ram- 32gb of gskill 3200 ram because why not. Gskill has to be one of the best if not the top ram producer out. While their products are expensive, they can easily crush any development you have to do.
Gpu- a gtx 1080ti with a 1.58ghz boost is well worth the money. If you did want to upgrade later on your mobo does support sli so all you'll have to do is add another 1080ti in there
Storage- 1tb ssd from Samsung for super fast storage. If you wanted to you could add on a 2tb HDD for mass storage and cut the ssd down to 500 or 250gb
Case- nzxt s340 elite is a sleek, professional looking case with a side panel
Monitors- as you'll be mostly developing games, music, and editing video, I decided that 2 1080p monitors with a 144hz display should be enough. I did see some nice dell 1440p monitors that are in your price range if you wanted to check that out I leave a link at the bottom of the post
Peripherals- since no gamings gonna happen I just included an rgb keyboard from corsair and a wireless Logitech rgb mouse. For speakers just 2 boss companions because you can never really go wrong with them

Ways to improve performance
-if you can cash out I'd go for a threadripper 1920x, a new mobo that supports it, and 64gb of ram to insure future proofing. Also you could add another 1080ti on as time goes by as the mobo does support sli

Okay, so this is the most high end you can go right now. I even went for some more components you didn't need but eould be neat, just to hit the soft limit. A platinum power supply, and ROG Maximus can easily be downgraded to an 850w Gold supply and something like the Asus ROG Strix, or MSI Tomahawk to really save some cash.
As for monitors you have two options, 1440p 144hz or 4K 60hz. 1440p 144hz gives you smooth as butter gaming. While 4K 60hz focuses on visual fidelity.

It's not possible. Get an AMD card if you want to use it. Alternatively if you really want to stick with NVIDIA you can get a cheap G-SYNC monitor like this one and return or sell the one you're currently using.

u/floodkotton · 1 pointr/Monitors

It's a Dell 27inch gaming monitor. They also make a 24inch version which is around $399 currently on Amazon

You can't go wrong with this one:

I know its quite a bit over your budget right now, but I just got a Dell S2417DG for ~ 472CAD a week weeks ago. It really an amazing monitor. Even scrolling reddit is noticeably smoother. https://www.amazon.ca/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481485473&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Dell+Gaming+S2417DG+YNY1D

Not sure about him, but I have the Dell S2417DG and it doesn't have speakers built in.

u/Betrayus · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

While true, i think a 1440p 144hz would have be a better buy for future proofing like the Dell S2417DG (24", 1440p, 144hz, gsync) unless you really are a pro csgo player. I personally wont be buying another 1080p monitor and wouldn't advise someone else too unless you can't afford it

u/ballmot · 1 pointr/buildapc

Here you go.

This one is also good, but slightly more expensive.

u/Popsamite · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Looks alright but not for me because of the bezels, this is my other monitor

On mobile ATM, but I can link you some unformatted links to get started. Give me a second while I edit them in.

Again, go with a 32" if you prefer size over PPI

Keep in mind, this is pretty top end. It's overkill for those two games but will set you up nicely for pretty much any gaming you want to do.

You'll want to use DP for both, especially the 1440p144hz. I have a newer HDMI for my 4k60 monitor that can push the 60hz refresh rate. So that can work too. I think the newest HDMI can push 144hz but I could be mistaken. Regardless, go for DP.

The G-Sync version of the 24" monitor would be the AGON AG241QG.

Actually, if I remember correctly, there was a much cheaper (relatively) Dell 1440p, 24" G-sync monitor floating around...

Ah, here we go:

Dell Gaming S2417DG YNY1D

u/moonmanrome · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I have this one. I love it. The bezels are super thin as well. It's a TN panel, but I'm a normal person and sit up straight when I game, so it's not an issue for me. It's also significantly below your budget.

Edit: the colors on it can seem washed when you first turn it on, but adjusting the monitor/nvidia settings to your liking will make it beautiful. And I have a 1070 as well, btw.

u/Fizzy_L1me · 1 pointr/buildapc

I might get the Dell S2417DG 24inch but it is almost double the price for 1440 and an extra couple hertz

u/bangbangbastion · 1 pointr/buildapc

the $450 dell 24" 1440p 165hz TN gsync monitor would be decent

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=twister_B0184YWH54?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

or the $365 Pixio px277 1440p 144hz IPS monitor. and use Fastsync to remove screen tearing. Fastsync has a little bit more lag and doesnt look as smooth as gsync at low fps. I think its is a good altenative if you are willing you turn fastsync in nvidia control panel and then disable it in Cs:go, overwatch, battlefield.

u/snaplocket · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Dunno what you were trying to link to mate, but it is actually on Amazon for $379.99 which is a pretty good deal for a 1440p gsync monitor!

u/slumeet · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Just two (dual) monitors, one for the game, the other to run OBS and have streams/browser/etc. up.

If you want to suggest a couple new monitors I'd be open to that too.

EDIT: I am going to probably invest in a g-sync monitor, I think amazon has one for $360: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20

u/Johner1261 · 1 pointr/Monitors

I just saw one of your comments while doing some research. Do you think you could offer some advice? You really seem to know your stuff. I LOVE the colors and the crispness of the text on my Surface Pro 4. I'm currently using a cheap monitor (at least it's 1080p) I scored in 2009 for $60.

I'm willing to spend maybe $400 on an upgrade and all I want is high resolution, high refresh rate, and nicer colors. I also want to be done with the bright blacks of my current monitor, the E211H.

I'm thinking of getting either the Pixio PX277^[^0^] or the Dell S2417DG^[^1^] if the price drops again, but I'm open for other suggestions.

u/komenasai · 1 pointr/buildapc

The RX 480 and 1060 won't be able to do 1440p at 144hz. I have a 1070 with a i5 4670k that barely hits 144hz at 1440p.

For a monitor, I recommend the Dell S2417DG. It's pretty cheap, has g-sync which is great and has given me no problems.

u/AintCARRONaboutmuch · 1 pointr/buildapc

Well 1st off I would recommend something along the lines of THIS, though I'm not sure what the availability and price would be on the other side of the pond. As for at least a similar USD price you get a higher resolution.

In terms of the quality of the monitors you are looking at though, they are not inherintly bad, but both AOC and to some extent ASUS don't have the best QC when it comes to monitors and having to get one shipped back or RMA'd is a really shitty thing to have to do so soon after the purchase.

Second, I would hold off on major GPU/Monitor purchases as ^^^^^hopefully AMD will be releasing their VEGA architecture GPU's soon which are slated to compete with the nvidia's GP104/GP102 graphics card. Even if they don't release a DIRECT competitor to the 1070/1080/1080Ti: they will likely have an option inbetween.

u/rarrieg11 · 1 pointr/PCBuilds

Keep in mind these are just my amazon searches, so there definitely could be better actual monitors on different websites or better prices elsewhere.

This is the one I have. It’s the cheapest high refresh rate g-sync monitor that I know of. It’s good but the colors aren’t the greatest. It’s still an insane improvement over my $120 Costco 1080p 60hz monitor.

This is basically the best 1440p monitor currently available. It’s got g-sync, an IPS panel, and i think an audio pass through. But, it’s expensive and kind of flashy which may mess up your setup if you care about that.

This is a nice 4K IPS monitor. It’s only 60hz but even with a 1080ti you won’t get above 60fps in many games at 4K with higher settings. Again, it’s expensive.

This is a 4K 144hz monitor with g-sync. You could probably find a way to get a 1080ti, a better monitor, and better cpu for about half the price so...

u/KingTurtleLeman · 1 pointr/buildapc

This is my monitor recommendation. The refresh rate is up to 165hz, it's 1440p and it has 1ms response time. Pair that with the fact that it has pretty good colors and the bezels are some of the thinnest out there and you have a monitor that is super hard to top at this price point and much higher price points too for that matter. I've had mine for a couple of years now and its one of my favorite additions to my computer build hands down.

u/jasaevan · 1 pointr/buildapc

i would say go with g-sync personally. it is quite a bit more expensive ($100-150 premium) than amd freesync but makes a much smoother picture. I personally also just do a flat screen monitor. Now if you dont care about freesync or g-sync it is not a terrible price for a curved monitor. Also the monitor you are looking at is cheaper on amazon. And the 27" is not much more than that)

One i have that i like is below

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DGR-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1

u/chillpill9623 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Then definitely don't get the Alienware, unless there is a model I'm unaware of they're 240hz are all Freesync.

Something like this is probably a better option. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/

It has a very nice build quality and the price is great for what you get.

u/just_a_dreamer · 1 pointr/Monitors

Those ASUS are probably considered the best. The MG is the newer model, but everyone also loves the VG.

The BenQ monitor is nearly of the same quality. I believe the P versions is the new panel, idk if they make the Z model anymore.

AOC monitors are generally cheaper and of less quality.

I guess it all depends your budget. Plus, the 1440p 144hz gsync dell monitors also go on sale for $300~350 regularly, so I'd look into those if your selected monitors are pushing ~$300

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1

u/brianf408 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

There are options under $500. This Dell, for example. Or its 27" brother goes on sale for $400-450 pretty often.

G-sync is definitely getting upcharged, but there are more affordable options hitting the market.

I have this monitor and it's great (G-Sync as well!). I actually like that it's 24 inch too because the pixel density makes it so nice to look at.

u/eMMaekstra · 1 pointr/Monitors

It's a good monitor, but if you have a nvidia card I would look into this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1500490666&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+s2417dg

G-sync is awesome, and a good way to futureproof your system.

Edit: I think I found your setup from your comment history, and I would 100% go for the dell instead of the monitor you linked due to g-sync.

u/loganemar · 1 pointr/Monitors

Yeah, the Predator is pretty nice. You could also go with the Dell S2417DG which is supposed to have the best colors for a TN panel. There's also a 27 in version of it.

I can't really answer your question, but that monitor did entice me enough to look into it and I actually found that its cheaper on amazon.ca (without even being on sale).

GTX 1070 is around US$400.

Your monitor seem fantastic for the price. However it is not G-sync/freesync, is it ?

So it seems that, not including G-sync/freesync, 1080p 144Hz, is about the same cost as 1440p 60Hz. That's up to people to figure out if they prefer resolution over framerate, I guess.

I'm building a PC with a 2600X and 1070 Ti. Currently stuck on choosing a monitor. I'd like to prioritize my FPS over resolution, but having a higher resolution would be nice.

My question is: how much of a FPS drop, assuming same in-game settings, would having a 1440p 144hz monitor over a 1080p 144hz monitor? Would GSync make the drop unnoticeable?

Two monitiors i'm looking at around the same price, one 1080p 144hz other 1440p 144hz:

Acer Predator XB241H bmipr 24-inch Full HD 1920x1080 NVIDIA G-Sync Display, 144Hz, 2 x 2w speakers, HDMI & DP

Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio

u/tunes1986 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Unfortunately you've got an added ~$100 for gsync so $350 gets you a $250 monitor with gsync. If you could go to ~$400 I would get something like this. It's 2560x1440 @144hz so you can let your card stretch its legs a bit, is but it's a TN panel so colors and angles won't be great. You're looking at $700+ for 4k and even most 2k IPS screens.

Now if you're willing to wait for vega and a freesync option you can save the hundred dollar up charge and spend it on a better monitor.

EDIT
that monitor is on sale at newegg, don't know a lot about it but it's within your budget, 2k, and overclockable. Maybe someone who's got it can chime in.

They are sold as different monitors even tho the name is the same. (beside the S-series on the second one but I guess thats because of the S in the basic name) Is it just a cashgrab or should I rather buy the lower priced one? (408€ vs 480€)

u/Mutt_Zeppi_ · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Well what's your price range? If you're looking into professional 4k, 700$ is a good starting price point.

If your budget is lower than this I'd suggest sticking to 1440p. There are plenty of really nice 1440p IPS monitors in the 400-600$ range.

You need to consider what it is you REALLY need and make your decision based off of that. If all you do is game, I'd strongly suggest just getting a good TN panel instead of a bad IPS panel.

I have the same gpu as you but an i5 8400 cpu. I was looking at a Dell 1440p monitor because I will eventually upgrade my gpu and cpu. Nothing wrong with getting more monitor than you need. You can grow into it lol. Someone told me 1440p at 24 inch isn’t good and I should go 27 but I still think this is not a bad deal.

This is a little over budget, but it has a 1070, which is killer for what you want to do. If you want to spend a little more money, get 16GB of RAM instead of 8. I always recommend this corsair set. The monitors you could go with are these two Gsync Pannels 1. $319 1080p AOC or 2. $399 1440p Dell.
u/ecco311 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Depends on what he wants and what he wants to spend for it.

Some things he has to consider:

27" or 24" ?

-144hz or less?

-1440p?

-G-Sync?

some recommendations: (simply monitors that I've seen here from time to time)

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1144794-REG/acer_um_hg0aa_001_xg270hu_omidpx_27_widescreen.html (this would be 27", 1440p, 144Hz)

But I don't really know that much about monitors, so you would have better luck at r/monitors

u/Boom- · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I think if you want gsync with your budget your options are very limited, so there's pretty much only one choice! It's 165hz, 1440p with gsync!

Don't know if you're interested in sticking to 27", but the Dell S2417DG is hands down my favorite monitor I've ever owned. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486883366&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+s2417dg 165hz 1440p 1ms response time with G-Sync. And after some minor calibration the colors have been flat out amazing for a TN panel. Here's also a review with calibration settings http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dell-s2417dg-24-inch-165hz-g-sync-gaming-monitor,4788.html. I personally don't find 24" too small for 1440p and have enjoyed every minute of this monitor.

u/ZeroPaladn · 1 pointr/buildapc

go for an i7 7700k if youre mainly just gaming

Go for a ryzen 1600 if you do video rendering, streaming, or other workstation-type tasks. Its cores are slower so it will be slower in most games, but it has more cores so workloads (such as the aforementioned ones) that take advantage of the extra cores will cause it to outperform a 7700k. Some games make good use of more than four cores, though that's mainly constrained to some AAA games. In such games the 1600 can perform at a similar level to a 7700k. I would not recommend an intel i5 processor at this point.

As for the monitor in that size range, id recommend none other than the Dell S2417DG. You can frequently find it for <$400 no problem. Its a 144hz 1440p 24inch gsync TN panel. I have the 27inch version sitting next to an IPS panel and the colors look fine.

Dell S2417DG. 1440p 144Hz display that while is officially TN it rivals IPS. Might be a little bit over $400 if you get it new but it's worth it. Unfortunately this would eat your whole monitor budget.

u/Verellic · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

u/OculusRiftUser2077 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I see the S2417DG for $400. Is it really the exact same monitor? Because then lol, ASUS and Acer are ripping people off!

u/Action3xpress · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't really know too much about the cheaper options other than the Dell 27in 1440p monitor: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1EKBWZJERYOS7&keywords=dell+144hz+monitor&qid=1567992562&s=gateway&sprefix=dell+14%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-4

27in 1440p 144hz TN panel. Viewing angles and colors won't be as good as the IPS versions. People say once its calibrated it's not that bad. Best Buy sometimes has this monitor on display, you might be able to check it out there.

Closest I could find with given specs:
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hJiiDbXHW5V5R

I would echo others that 1440 on 24 is a waste. I’ve been reading around for awhile, as I will be upgrading everything eventually. I tried to do some quick research since I don’t look for 24” often, and it’s a bit hard to find one that is both 1080/144 and IPS. If you are fine with going with a cheaper TN panel you should be good (narrow viewing angles).

This one here but it’s curved:
MSI Full HD FreeSync Gaming Monitor 24" Curved Non-Glare 1ms LED Wide Screen 1920 x 1080 144Hz Refresh Rate (Optix MAG24C) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07794JYLJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KWiiDbCCTEYVP

I know you said you don’t like the size of 27, but have you looked at frameless monitors? Those cut down the bulk and can be quite aesthetically pleasing. I would go for other specs first as 1440 on a 24” will needlessly bump up your cost. 1080/144, freesync, at least 1 DisplayPort (Nvidia supports freesync but only through DP, newer AMD cards support freesync through HDMI and DP). Do note, HDR is only supported on most Freesync 2 panels, which from what I’ve seen, only come on 27”+ panels.

Keep options open for adding a second panel, since the additional space is a godsend for multitasking. Higher resolution is nothing compared to two screens, even if you plan on gaming, it’s a great quality of life thing to be able to have a second panel for browsing, researching/etc.

Unless you really want 2 monitors I would recommend the dell s2417dg. It is only 24" but it is also only $430 and is 1440p 144hz g-sync and has a 1ms response time. I think that is a steal and I bought it when it was $400 last week and I also recently got a 1070. I wouldn't go 4K with only a single 1070 as you wouldn't be able to get 60 fps on most AAA games.

u/TheMarshmallow · 1 pointr/Monitors

The Dell S2417DG is the same price, 1440p, and should have better image quality than the AOC according to reviews.

If you're set on 1080p, then the Acer XB241H looks to be around the same price, and again according to reviews has better image quality than the AOC you were looking at.

u/SCMSuperSterling · 1 pointr/buildapc

I didn't know G-sync would be that big of a deal until I got a g-sync monitor this year. It's truly amazing, and I can't ever go back to a normal monitor. The problem is, you're basically locking yourself into Nvidia cards for the future, as AMD cards don't work with g-sync (unless you're down to switch monitors if you switch cards too). The Dell S2417DG is a great monitor (I have the 27" version), though its a little expensive, I've been seeing it go on sale a lot recently. You could check /r/buildapcsales to see if there are any deals on this monitor.

u/Natilator · 0 pointsr/Monitors

I have a very similar build and I just recently bought this guy and am very impressed. You can even overclock it to 165hz, although it apparently increases input lag. I was thinking of buying one of the new 240hz monitors but came to the conclusion that I don't play enough games that hit the 160-200+ fps threshold compared to 144/165hz.

Of course some games will be difficult to hit the magical 1440p/144fps target, but I am finding it to be a very reasonable and good-looking compromise.
